Speak about out-of-touch pols. In response to a brand new Gallup survey, practically 9 out of 10 respondents — and greater than eight of 10 African Individuals — oppose having police spend much less time of their areas. But Democratic politicians have been racing to “defund the police” all the identical.

The survey discovered 19 p.c of the general public needs cops to spend extra time of their areas; 67 p.c are OK with their present presence. Solely 14 p.c need fewer cops.

It’s comparable for African Individuals: 20 p.c need extra cops; 61 p.c are good with the present degree. Simply 19 p.c choose cops to spend much less time of their areas.

Amongst Hispanics, 83 p.c need the identical or extra policing.

It’s straightforward to know why: Minority teams are the overwhelming victims of crime. Take away cops and so they’re those who’ll undergo most. Within the metropolis, 88 p.c of homicide and non-negligent manslaughter victims have been black or Hispanic final yr — as have been 74 p.c of rape victims.

Folks need higher policing, the ballot additionally reveals — with respect and diligence. However that’s not “defunding,” as Democrats throughout the nation have proposed. It’s not slashing the NYPD finances by $1 billion, as Mayor Invoice de Blasio has finished. It’s not “redirecting” funds, as Joe Biden has mentioned. If something, it’s more cash for higher coaching.

It doesn’t take a criminologist to see that fewer cops — and fewer assets for them — imply much less security, extra crime and extra victims.

Individuals clearly know that. Why not Dems?

NYPD cops wrangle skunk hiding out in Tribeca flowers: video

Hook, line and stinker!

NYPD cops nabbed a skunk that was trying to hide among the flowers outside a Tribeca bodega on Sunday morning, video shows.

Tribeca resident John Duncan said he was walking his dog around 10:20 a.m. when they both smelled something foul near Morgan’s Market on the corner of Hudson Street and Reade Street.

“When I turned the corner, police were there and confirmed that it was a skunk hiding out behind the flowers,” Duncan told The Post.

Duncan whipped out his phone and recorded as one of the officers used a specialized pole to snatch the critter from behind the storefront display.

Footage showed the office hoist it up to applause from the several dozen people who had also been lured over by the stench.

“Got him… Nice work! Congrats,” Duncan could be heard saying in the video as one of the cops flashes a thumbs up.

He said the cops told him that they’d rescued skunks before in the Big Apple — but only across the harbor in Staten Island.

“It could’ve come over on the Staten Island Ferry,” Duncan said, adding that more people staying inside during the pandemic may have played a role.

“The other thing is animals could be increasing their range with less people outside.”

Duncan commended New York’s Finest for handling the stinky job with professionalism.

“No one got hurt, including the skunk. It was a spirited, cordial event,” he said.
