Shaw and the Miami-based company Brightline began discussions on a station that would cover the Gasworx site, Tampa Park Apartments, and a 14-acre area that was previously targeted for a Tampa Bay Rays stadium, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The two parties have entered into a memorandum of understanding, a non-financially binding agreement that allows Brightline to conduct an environmental analysis, says TBBJ..
Shaw said his ideal vision is a multimodal transit station on one of the three properties — a place where rail lines, bus rapid transit, streetcar and trolley service come together.
The rail line would shorten the trip from Tampa to Orlando to one hour, with round-trip tickets costing just over $70. Brightline has been attempting to connect the two cities via rail since 2018, when it proposed a bid to build an intercity rail line along Interstate 4.
"We've always recognized the importance of connecting our entire system to Tampa. Tampa is growing, it's exciting and we want to be part of its future,” said Brightline’s senior vice president of corporate affairs Ben Porritt in a statement.
This announcement comes several months after the Tampa Bay Times reported that Shaw had purchased Tampa Park Apartments, one of the three properties mentioned in the negotiations. All Tampa Park tenants have until November 1 to move out, and Shaw plans to provide about $800,000 in relocation assistance.
As of now, there is no timetable for the station’s development nor for the expiration date for the memorandum of understanding.

Jake Tapper, Dana Bash Shocked By Sh*t Show Debate: A Hot Mess Inside a Dumpster Fire Inside of a Train Wreck
CNN did not mince any words in its immediate reactions to the grueling, nasty debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Jake Tapper started by calling the debate “a hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside of a train wreck.”
“That was the worst debate I have ever seen. It wasn’t even a debate. It was a disgrace,” Tapper continued. “And it’s primarily because of President Trump, who spent the entire time interrupting, not abiding by the rules he agreed to, lying, maliciously attacking the son of the vice president. When asked to condemn white supremacists, he brought up the name of a neo-fascist far right group, and said stand back and stand by.”
He said clearly the American people lost.
Dana Bash went further:
“That was a shit show.”
“That is really the phrase I’m getting from people on both sides of the aisle on text and it’s the only phrase I can think of to describe it,” she explained. “The people who have been hurt the most by that are the people who are genuinely looking to see what each candidate stands for and who they should vote for. There are still people out there who haven’t made up their mind, either on which candidate to vote for or whether to vote. I’m not sure that particularly on the latter point that that performance and that theater there, the reality TV show, the bad reality TV show is going to help them in the least.”
