Showing off Final Fantasy elements we know and love, like chocobos, Shiva, dragoons, and discussions of “mother crystals,” the gameplay appeared to be focused on controlling a single character, rather than a party of them.
While Square Enix did not announce a release date for the next-gen Final Fantasy, it’s been years since the most recent entry. Final Fantasy 15 was released in November 2016, so it makes sense that a tease for the next installment of the beloved JRPG franchise is finally rearing its head.
Square Enix hasn’t said much about the next entry in the core Final Fantasy franchise, but Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki Yoshida recently downplayed rumors that he was in charge of Final Fantasy 16, calling speculation that he was the game’s director “fake news.” However, other members of the Final Fantasy 14 dev team may be working on the upcoming game. The career webpage for the Final Fantasy 14 team features mysterious concept art of what appears to be an unannounced game, linked with the team’s next project.
Members of the Final Fantasy 15 team formed a new studio within Square Enix called Luminous Productions and is working on Project Athia, which was announced in June.
