The 26-year-old country star received two pre-ACM awards — new female artist of the year and music event of the year — during a Zoom call with Urban in August. Prior to the call, Townes thought she would be doing a routine interview and got quite the shock when Urban appeared on screen.

Eventually, Urban revealed that he had crashed her Zoom in order to tell her about the awards. “For real?” Townes says in the video, still in shock.

“For real,” the “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer confirmed. “No pranking.”

While speaking to Jeremy Parsons for PeopleTV's Red Carpet Live: 55th Academy of Country Music Awards preshow, Townes said she’s “still freaking out about” receiving her awards from Urban.

“I’ll never forget that Zoom call as long as I live,” she said. “Hearing the news from him was so surreal, I still can’t believe that happened.”

Immediately after, the artist said her first move was calling her parents. “I was at my manager’s house and so we all kind of danced around the kitchen and celebrated and then I was like ‘Okay, I gotta call mom and dad,” she told Parsons. “I called them and they were in the vehicle and my mom was like ‘Hey what’s happening?’ I was like ‘Well, Keith Urban just called so.’”

“It was very cool,” Townes added.

Townes will be performing at the ACMs and said she will be “missing everybody” in the audience, as the seats will remain empty. Still, she added that she’s just excited the awards show is happening at all amid the pandemic.

“I am so excited that the ACMs are still happening and that we get to celebrate all of this,” she said. “I feel really grateful to be part of this country music community. I'm honored and I can’t wait for the show.”

Bharat Ratna For SP Balasubramanyam? Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy Requests PM Narendra Modi to Confer Indias Highest Civilian Honour Upon Legendary Singer

Hyderabad, September 28: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to confer India’s highest civilian honour – the Bharat Ratna – on the late S.P. Balasubramanyam for his legendary contribution to music and arts. “As a tribute to the legendary singer for his outstanding contribution in the field of music and art, I request you to confer Bharat Ratna award upon him,” wrote Reddy.

He reminded the Prime Minister that music stalwarts such as Lata Mangeshkar, Bhupen Hazarika, M.S. Subbulakshmi, Bismillah Khan and Bhimsen Joshi were also conferred with the Bharat Ratna. “This will be the highest recognition to his remarkable work which lasted for five decades and stays in our memory forever,” he said.

Justifying his request, Reddy mentioned Balasubramanyam’s familiar contribution to the arts, more than 40,000 songs in multiple languages. “He won six national film awards for best male playback singer for his work, 25 AP state Nandi awards for his work in Telugu cinema, and numerous other state awards in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,” he said, among other awards.

In 2001, Balasubramanyam was honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in 2011 by the Government of India. “Our state of AP is fortunate for being the birthplace (Nellore) of the great maestro. His untimely departure not only caused much distress to fans and celebrities living in India but also has affected the international music fraternity,” observed Reddy.

The chief minister said the doyen’s impact can be gauged by the continuous flow of tributes from music aficionados from across the world. On Sunday, former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu had also asked for a slew of recognitions and honours for the singer by the state government. Born in Nellore district of southern Andhra Pradesh, Balasubramanyam passed away on Friday at the age of 74 in a Chennai hospital.
