Part of a bridge collapsed in Pensacola, Florida, when 30 inches of rain and a storm surge turned streets into rivers on Wednesday, after Hurricane Sally hit the Gulf Coast.

Although downgraded to a tropical storm since Wednesday afternoon, Sally’s strong winds whipped through Alabama and Florida as the center moved over the Panhandle.

And they are still causing torrential rains in both states.

In Pensacola, Florida, a section of the Pensacola Bay Bridge collapsed and the city center was largely under water.

The hurricane killed at least one person in Orange Beach, Alabama, located on the east coast of the state gulf between Mobile and Pensacola. Mayor Tony Kennon told The Associated Press another person was missing, but was unable to release additional details.

Flash flood emergencies were in effect and rescue efforts underway for parts of southeastern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, as the storm could dump up to 35 inches of rain in isolated foci.

Sally, which made landfall at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph near Gulf Shores, Alabama, was downgraded to a tropical depression Wednesday night with 35 mph winds.

Sally is forecast to head to southeast Alabama Wednesday night before arriving in Georgia on Thursday and the Carolinas on Friday.

The storm could dump about 10 to 20 inches of rain in parts of Alabama and Florida.

Betts leaves Dodgers game after being hit by pitch

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts left Saturday night’s game after being hit by a pitch.

Betts was plunked in the left hip by Angels right-hander Julio Teheran leading off the first inning at Dodger Stadium. Betts stayed in and scored the first run after being forced in with the bases loaded on a walk by Teheran.

Betts was limping in the dugout. He was replaced by Kiké Hernández in right field to start the second.

Betts leads the Dodgers in home runs (16), runs (46) and stolen bases (10).

The Dodgers have won their eighth straight NL West title and clinched home-field advantage throughout the postseason.
