Antoine Walker believes that Paul Pierce is the best teammate that he ever had.

“That’s a tough question,” Walker told me while on the Heavy Live With Scoop B Show.

“I would say Paul because we had so much respect for each other and we could push each other.

Boston’s sixth overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft out of the University of Kentucky, Walker was a three-time All-Star and a member of the NBA’s All-Rookie team in 1997.

Walker’s talent really shined in the eyes of many when the Celtics paired him with Paul Pierce.

The duo of Pierce and Walker blossomed during the 2001-02 season when the Jim O’Brien team boasted a 49-33 record and made their first NBA Playoffs appearance in seven years. Walker’s stat sheet was amazing 22.0 points and 5 assists per contest.

The Celtics made it all the way to the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals, but would eventually lose in six games to a talented New Jersey Nets team that was guided by Byron Scott and featured Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, Keith Van Horn and Richard Jefferson.

“Me and Paul could curse each other out and call each other every name in the book and we’re still friends the next day and we’re ready to go,” recounted Walker.

“We had the same goals in mind, we wanted to help rebuild the Celtic organization, we wanted to get back to the playoffs, we were able to do that, we had aspirations of one day winning the title, but we got along so well on and off the court for the time that we played together. Even when I left and then came back, it was just like the same way when I left and that would probably be my best teammate. Now did I enjoy playing with some other guys? No question. Shaq, D-Wade, Gary Payton; love ‘em. Enjoyed playing with them. Some of my best teammates. But the best was Paul Pierce hands down.”

Million Dollar Question: When did the Celtics became Paul Pierce’s team?

“It wasn’t as such as turning the team over to him,” said Walker.

“But, I felt like Paul was a better scorer than I was. I thought he got the fairness of the whistle better than me, which means that Paul can get to the foul line. If you look at when we played together, Paul gets to the line at least 8-9 times a game. I wasn’t getting the fairness of the whistle. I had too many technical fouls. Refs couldn’t stand me. I looked at his skill set on the offensive end; he can shoot the three, great midrange game, he’ll take you inside and that when I started to be like, “Okay. This could be a 1-a, 1-b type of situation here.” And I could defer to Paul on the offensive end. But in the locker room and off the court and things of that nature, I was still a leader but it was a great partnership because we never did anything without each other’s consent.”

Tyson Furys Brother Says Floyd Mayweathers Legacy Stopped Before the Conor Mcgregor Fight

In a recent interview, Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy Fury weighed in on the speculations of a mega-crossover fight between semi-retired pro-boxer Floyd Mayweather and YouTuber Logan Paul.

“Floyd, for starters in his career, can’t take anything away from him. He is one of my favorite fighters of many others. For me, in the top 5 greatest ever to do it. He’s earned his stripes, he’s done whatever he’s done, you know that was his boxing career,” said Fury.

“But I’m not being funny, [If] I was Floyd Mayweather, and somebody said you wanna fight a YouTuber for… I can’t even tell you how much money that’s gonna generate. You don’t know, yeah of course, why wouldn’t you if you want to.

“Some people are gonna say, is he gonna tarnish his legacy? Not really because I see his legacy stopped before the [Conor] McGregor fight. That was his legacy over. You know these fights are sort of like gimmicky fights that we all know he can win. Although the Logan Paul, if it makes money it makes sense.”

What can be said about Floyd Mayweather’s decision to take this fight?

Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs), is retired from competitive boxing and had his last fight against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition bout in 2019. He also fought UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017 in one of the biggest PPVs in history. Now, with rumors of a bout against YouTuber Logan Paul going around, Floyd might make a return to the ring once again.

The fight might generate a lot of money, but as far is legacy is concerned, as Fury said, it stopped after he last competed professionally in 2015

This fight against a YouTuber, who has had one professional fight, is just an easy cash-grab in the age of the internet. And to be honest, it will not be a very exciting contest in terms of competition.

Mayweather, however, has a flawless career and has achieved a lot professionally. So we don’t blame him either for taking up easy fights for money. Being in good physical and mental shape at 43, he might continue to do this.
