"Iran’s defense doctrine is premised on strong reliance on its people and indigenous capabilities ... Unconventional arms, weapons of mass destruction and a buying spree of conventional arms have no place in Iran's defense doctrine," said a Foreign Ministry statement carried by state media.

This is a Goldilocks night: no candidate can come in too hot nor too cold. #PresidentialDebate2020— Alice Stewart (@alicetweet) October 23, 2020
.@JoeBiden has a GREAT opportunity tonight. Trumps already said he has no regrets looking back & no healthcare plan looking forward. Biden just needs to stay focused on the millions who are hurting.

Taking bets on which names in the news this week Trump will invoke tonight to avoid answering questions...— S.E. Cupp (@secupp) October 23, 2020
Tonight's debate is Biden's to lose. Let Trump implode, avoid a galactic gaffe, and hammer home 3 issues- pandemic; pandemic; pandemic.— Aaron David Miller (@aarondmiller2) October 23, 2020
Lots of speculation about the Presidents strategy tonight. Expectation is that there will be *no* strategy - because the President is Donald Trump. He will drink a lot of Coke, turn up and start shouting. #Debates2020— Tim Stanley (@timothy_stanley) October 23, 2020
Biden's photo hugging his son drew strong reactions in the last 24 hrs. In last debate, Biden speaking openly abt addiction's impact on families was a strong moment. Looking for another strong father-son moment tonight. That's how to flip the Hunter emails narrative#Debates2020— Nayyera (@nayyeroar) October 23, 2020
The presidents goal is not to persuade anyone. It is to energize his supporters, solidify Republican support beyond the base, and to bolster the confidence of Senate Republicans. Everything tonight revolves around this strategy.— Julian Zelizer (@julianzelizer) October 23, 2020

Trump's debate strategy is to rattle Joe. That puts Biden in control. Much better for Trump to lay out a COVID strategy and a plan to replace Obamacare, ideas to rebuild the economy, etc. Trouble is, he has none. Only grievances, gripes, and conspiracy theories.#Debates2020— Paul Begala (@PaulBegala) October 23, 2020
The stakes are high tonight for both candidates, but the demands are very different. Biden has to avoid making any big mistakes. Trump has to transform the race. #Debates2020— Frida Ghitis (@FridaGhitis) October 22, 2020
I'm in a very why-do-we-even-need-this-debate kind of place, but I am thankful climate is on the agenda. Please get beyond the is-it-real questions. It is. Weve known that for... decades.— John D. Sutter (@jdsutter) October 22, 2020
At some point tonight #JoeBiden needs to look into the camera, gesture towards #DonaldTrump and say "America, do you really want 4 more years of this." #Debate2020 #Debatenight #debate— ((Lincoln Mitchell)) (@LincolnMitchell) October 22, 2020
