After joining Arsenal from Werder Bremen for just £100,000 in 2011, Gnabry found minutes hard to come by at the Emirates.
And he was shunted off on loan to West Brom in 2015, then aged 20, where he would play just 12 MINUTES in five months at the Hawthorns.
Then-boss Tony Pulis revealed the youngster wasn't 'at the level' to play in the Premier League.
Bu Gnabry has philosophically suggested his hardening spell in the Midlands toughened him up enough to become a Bundesliga and Champions League winner last summer.

On his time at the Baggies, Gnabry told the Daily Mail: "It was a very important time in my career, where I had to learn and accept a lot of things as well.
"It made me a tougher guy on the pitch.
"When you’re younger, maybe talent was enough and just enjoying [yourself] and having fun.
"Then I realised it’s also hard work and things don’t go your way.

"It didn’t go well at West Brom but I just kept working and that’s one of things I adopted: always keep working and knowing when I go home.
"I’ve always believed in my qualities. If someone else doesn’t what can I do?"
Gnabry concluded: "At the end of day, if I didn’t go to West Brom, if it didn’t go how it did, I wouldn’t be here at Bayern Munich now.
"I wouldn’t be Champions League winner, I wouldn’t have had five trophies in one season and be playing, I think, in the best team in the world, football wise.
"In the end I can say it helped me a lot on my road to become who I am. And that’s the story."Five stars who quit Arsenal and become world class including Serge Gnabry and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsenal hope could hand him a debut when they welcome Premier League leaders Manchester United to the capital on Sunday.
Speaking about his new No.11, Mikel Arteta said: “It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season.
“Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while.
“Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May.”
Arsenal’s technical director Edu said: “We are delighted to welcome Martin to the club until the end of the season.
“I would like to thank everyone at Real Madrid and Martin’s representatives for their collaboration in making this loan move happen.
“Martin is an exceptional talent and we are strengthening our squad by introducing an exciting offensive player to the club for the remaining months of this season.”
The Norwegian international is Arteta's second piece of business this month, having signed keeper Mat Ryan on loan from Brighton also.

But it comes after German Mesut Ozil finally finished his footballing exile as he completed a free transfer to Fenerbahce.
Odegaard, in a similar position to Ozil, has left Madrid in search for regular football.
The 22-year-old has managed just five starts this season, making nine appearances in total with no goals.
He has struggled to make an impact in Zinedine Zidane's side after returning to the LaLiga champions last summer after starring on-loan at Real Sociedad.

But Bernabeu bosses cut short his proposed two-year loan to instead give him a shot in their first team.
It did not work out, however, and the Spanish kings looked to move him away from LaLiga.
Leicester were among the interested clubs, but pulled out of the race, leaving Arsenal to swoop in for the youngster.
Odegaard first hit the headlines as a 16-year-old when he signed for Madrid in 2015 for £2.3million.5Odegaard will remain at the Emirates until the summer after joining from MadridCredit: Getty
