PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Red Cross is in desperate need of healthy blood donors to cover recent shortfalls and increasing needs. Eyewitness News was at a blood drive Monday at the American Red Cross building on Chestnut Street.

There were few donors today for this event, possibly due to the snow that came through Center City.

Officials say snow and icy weather in the past three weeks is the reason the Red Cross is dealing with shortfalls.

They are asking all those who can to please consider donating blood.

George Clooney producing documentary uncovering abuse and cover-up at Ohio State

George Clooney will serve as an executive producer on docuseries based around Jon Wertheim’s groundbreaking story for Sports Illustrated, uncovering three decades of alleged abuse and cover-up at Ohio State.

George Clooney is involved with a huge docuseries project centered around decades of abuse and cover-up at Ohio State University.

The docuseries stems from John Wertheim of Sports Illustrated’s October 2020 digital cover story titled, “Why Aren’t More People Talking About the Ohio State Sex Abuse Scandal?” Wertheim’s feature had to do with 350 reported cases of abuse stemming from former Ohio State sports doctor Richard Strauss.

Per Wertheim, “This article uncovers the most widespread sexual abuse scandal in the history of American higher education. It is a story about power, abuse, enabling and the hierarchy of college sports that had been concealed for far too long.”

“Because these courageous men made the decision to remain silent no longer, we can finally begin to hold the abuser, and those who were complicit in their silence, accountable for their actions – and inactions. With the help of 101 Studios, Authentic Brands Group and Smokehouse Pictures, their voices and stories—harrowing as they are—will be amplified.”

George Clooney, Grant Heslov of Smokehouse Pictures are executive producers

“We’re very pleased to partner with 101 Studios and Sports Illustrated in bringing this devastating and tragic story to light,” said Clooney and Heslov in a statement.

“It’s enormously important that we continue to shine a light on this ongoing, painful story and further explore its wide-ranging effects,” said Marc Rosen, President, Entertainment at Authentic Brands Group.

“We are lucky to be able to tap into the exceptional journalism of Sports Illustrated’s Jon Wertheim and we are incredibly proud and humbled to bring even more awareness to his investigation.”

Hundreds of Strauss’ victims are still seeking justice nearly two decades since his 2005 suicide.
