Dez Bryant’s time with the Baltimore Ravens appears to be over, but the veteran wide receiver says that’s not the case for his NFL career.
The 32-year-old Bryant — who returned to the league after sitting out two more seasons — took to Twitter to explain to a fan why he didn’t get more opportunities with the Ravens.
“I realized quick Baltimore wasn’t the place for me,” Bryant wrote. “No bad blood. That’s their way of doing things so you gotta respect it.”
Despite Bryant’s unsuccessful stint with the Ravens, the three-time Pro Bowler said he’s not ready to retire.
“I plan on playing 2 more years and that’s it for me,” he tweeted.
Bryant, who played eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, said he enjoyed his time in Baltimore, but that gaining chemistry in their run-heavy offensive system was difficult.
“It’s hard. I’ve been off almost three years,” Bryant added. “I flashed my abilities to the point [Ravens coach John] Harbaugh asked was I ready to play because he thought I was ready …You have to learn the playbook … chemistry with the QB have to be on point.”Dez BryantGetty Images
Bryant ended the season as the No. 4 wide receiver on the depth chart of the Ravens, who had the worst passing attack in the NFL. He was behind Marquise Brown, Miles Boykin and Willie Snead IV.
Bryant — who played just six games for Baltimore last season — also wrote that he was “thankful” for the opportunity the Ravens gave him and that he also had a good relationship with Lamar Jackson.see also
“Our chemistry was good on and off the field,” Bryant wrote, referring to Jackson. “But it was guys there before me who understood the offensive concepts better than me. You can’t jeopardize that.
“I wasn’t bothered about playing time. I enjoyed myself. I met some great teammates, guys I feel like I will be keeping in contact for a long time.”
Bryant — who was signed to the 53-man roster on Nov. 28. — had just six receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns during his short stint in Baltimore. He also didn’t catch a pass in the Ravens’ two playoff games.
Bryant did put up big numbers during his time in Dallas before being released after the 2017 season. In 113 games, Bryant caught 531 passes for 7,459 yards and a franchise-record 73 touchdown catches.Filed under baltimore ravens , dez bryant , nfl , 2/24/21
