Robinhood chooses the Nasdaq for its stock market debut: CNBC
March 5, 2021 | 3:54 pm
Robinhood chose the Nasdaq Composite for its eventual Initial Public Offering (IPO), according to sources consulted by CNBC.
The share buy and sell application has lowered the barrier to entry for millions of retail investors, setting the stage for one of the biggest public debuts of the year.
Although there is still the question of whether Robinhood’s debut will be through a direct listing or an IPO, the firm already prepares the procedures and documents that it will have to present to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC, for its acronym in English).
Behind the company’s debut, in the process of talks with investors is Goldman Sachs, the sources added.
Both the Nasdaq and Robinhood declined to comment, CNBC said.
During January, Robinhood put a stop to the trading of shares in GameStop, AMC, BlackBerry and other firms after retail investors, organized primarily on Reddit, pushed up the price of their stocks.
Following these events, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev had to testify before the US Congress and apologized to clients for the restrictions imposed.
