Without a doubt, Google is the most complete search engine and best known by users in the world. Even Apple devices include it as the default browser, thanks to a millionaire agreement signed between both companies to make it happen. However, and considering Apple’s new place as the world’s most valuable company, could you consider breaking that deal to promote your own service? According to a recently published report, Apple has shown signs that it may soon launch a search engine to compete with Google Search. It is based on changes in Spotlight Search on iOS and iPadOS 14 beta, a significant update to their Applebot support page, and an increase in AppleBot crawling. “Perform an” Apple Search “May Be Available Soon As one of the largest companies in the world, no move by Apple goes unnoticed. Thanks to this constant monitoring, some analysts have detected...
Today, Facebook launched its long-promised voter information center, meant as an authoritative guide to help Americans cast their votes in the upcoming election. With the election more than two months away, the information in the center is currently focused on voter registration, but Facebook officials said that the focus would change as election day approaches, moving to the specifics of the voting process and, after election day itself, the accurate reporting of results. “As we get closer to Election Day, voting by mail will be even more important to people who prefer to stay away from crowded polling places,” said Naomi Gleit, VP of product management and social impact at Facebook. “Early voting will also be an important option for many people, depending on the rules in their state.” Most ominously, Facebook is planning for the voting information center to become a canonical source for election results after polls...
American Airlines is preparing to cut service to some 30 small and mid-sized cities after minimum-service mandates imposed by Congress expire on September 30, in the latest sign that the airline industry could be headed off a cliff in the fall without further federal aid. A source familiar with the airline's plans confirmed them to DailyMail.com on Thursday. The reduced service could be reflected in American's fall schedule as soon as next week. Since March, airlines have pledged to avoid layoffs and maintain minimum levels of service in exchange for a $25 billion federal aid package -- but the deal is set to expire at the end of September, and Congress remains deadlocked on passing new assistance. American Airlines was granted $5.8 billion in support under the original program, which was part of the CARES Act.  American Airlines is preparing to cut service to some 30 small and mid-sized...
Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chair Pramila Jayapal says left-wing voters need to support Joe Biden because he “is movable” on issues. Jayapal (D-Wash.) told Comedy Central host Trevor Noah on Monday night that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is willing to change his positions in response to pressure. “As soon as we get him in the White House, and even before with these task forces that we had, we were able to significantly push Joe Biden to do things that he hadn’t signed on to before. So he is movable, he is listening and he does understand that we need turnout from young people, from folks of color,” Jayapal said. Jayapal’s remark is likely to play into President Trump’s frequent contention that Biden has become a “puppet of the Left.” The Seattle congresswoman was answering a suggestion from Noah, who is South African, that Biden is someone who “people aren’t enthusiastically...
The Big 10 is reportedly preparing to officially cancel the football season. According to ESPN, the commissioners of the Power Five conferences held an emergency meeting Sunday, and the belief is that the B1G is ready to shut the whole thing down during the coronavirus pandemic. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Justin Fields (@justnfields) on Feb 24, 2020 at 4:14pm PST ESPN reported that the Big 10 “wanted to gauge if commissioners and university presidents and chancellors from the other Power 5 conferences — the ACC, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC — will fall in line with them.” Ross Dellenger also reported the same. SACRAMENTO —  Even as California elections officials prepare to mail ballots to all of the state’s 21 million voters this fall, they do so with the expectation that some portion of the electorate will still choose to participate in person during the pandemic, requiring a delicate balance between voting rights and public health. “We are preparing for, I think, the most unprecedented election in modern history,” Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. “This is an all hands on deck moment.” After Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order in June outlining new voting location rules — a plan ratified on Thursday by the Legislature — county officials have scrambled to determine how many in-person locations they can muster and how many days they can keep them open. Added to that is uncertainty over whether there will be enough short-term workers who are willing to work more than a single day...
The debauchery of finding a new coronavirus vaccine is perhaps “the space race” of the 21st century. If in the middle of the last century space and conquering it was the challenge of the great powers, now it is to find a solution that ends the pandemic. And again, like half a century ago, Russia wants to leave its contenders behind: last week, the Kremlin announced that it would start a massive vaccination project against the coronavirus in October with an injection of which little is known and whose efficacy has already been confirmed. has been questioned by international experts. “The first coronavirus vaccine, developed by the Gamaleya Institute, has completed its clinical trials and documentation is now being prepared for the registration procedure,” said Murashko. According to the minister, the country is also testing other vaccines that they also hope to submit to other clinical trials in the coming...

(CNN)Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was watching late-night television when he saw a hospital boss criticizing him and Ethiopia's Health Ministry, which he was leading at the time, for doing a terrible job. Instead of responding with a furious diatribe, as some political leaders might when watching their detractors on TV, he contacted the man, Dr. Kesete Admasu."Tedros called him in and said, well, if you have ideas and you're critical get in here and help us fix it, and made him Deputy Minister, which gives you a sense of his leadership style in bringing in the smartest and the best and empowering them," United States diplomat Mark Dybul, a professor at the Georgetown University Medical Center and co-director of the Center for Global Health Practice and Impact, told CNN."He took one of the worst ministries of health in the world, transformed it into one of the best, had to make very...

CRYSTAL PALACE will "listen" to offers for wantaway winger Wilfried Zaha this summer, according to reports. The 27-year-old has starred over two spells for the Eagles, playing a big role in helping them cement themselves as a Premier League outfit. 2Wilfried Zaha is set to finally be granted a move away from Selhurst Park this summerCredit: Rex Features But amid strong interest from Everton last year, the homegrown hero handed in a transfer request at Selhurst Park. And while the Toffees baulked at Palace's staggering £100million price-tag last summer, Zaha appears likely to finally be granted his move this time around. According to the Mirror, Zaha is now available at the "right price" - which naturally will have taken a hit at the hands of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite having upgraded Marco Silva for Carlo Ancelotti since last year's interest the Toffees remain keen - with the Italian a big...
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles confirmed her city is preparing for a “scaled down” Republican National Convention Friday, one day after President Trump announced he is canceling the RNC events scheduled to take place in Jacksonville, Florida. “At the RNC’s request we have been preparing and planning for a scaled-down RNC event. We have committed to hosting a scaled down event and that is what we are going to do,” Lyles, a Democrat, tweeted. “The city does not intend to and will not incur any costs in support of the convention beyond the reduced budget, which was approved by the Department of Justice,” she added. On Thursday, Trump cited rising COVID-19 numbers in Florida as he canceled the convention’s appearance in the state. He said a much smaller convention, consisting of formal business, would occur in Charlotte, N.C. Delegates will still meet to nominate Trump for the Republican ticket and he will...
Communist China Is Preparing Its Military To Overtake Taiwan, Top Taiwanese Official Warns
Bob Cesca July 21, 2020 1:45PM (UTC) By now, it's relatively easy to forecast Donald Trump's tyrannical moves. There are no advanced Frank Underwood-style chess gambits in play here. It's barely Candyland, despite the fascistic goals involved. Trump is, on top of it all, a simple-minded, easily predictable Golgothan who telegraphs every move of self-preservation. Sometimes it can be reassuring to have a sense of where he's going with his repetitious blurts. At other times it leaves us with this perpetual sense of instability, knowing what might be lurking around the corner. The November election fits horrifyingly into the latter category.  I believe I know how Trump will try to interfere with the process as well as the outcome, and it's more than a little unnerving, especially given the cataclysmic stakes this time. Warning: This is a bit of a horror show, so hang on tight. Oh, and everything that follows presumes a close...
Good news: finding a parking spot in St. Paul might be the easiest it’s ever been. Bad news: the city has $2 million less this year than it did in 2019 from parking revenue. As fewer people venture from home during the coronavirus pandemic, parking ramps and street parking are getting less use. So far this year, the city of St. Paul reported it has lost over $1.3 million in revenue from parking lots and ramps, and another $760,000 in revenue from parking meters. The number of parking tickets distributed in St. Paul also decreased by 44 percent in 2020 compared to the year prior. Revenue from parking fees and tickets are part of the city’s general fund. City officials project a total fund deficit between $19 million and $34 million in 2020. Their 2021 budget will take this decrease in revenue into account, according to the St. Paul...
We have been a few months in which the rumors about Apple’s plans for augmented reality have not stopped arising. It seems that we are getting closer to that future that those of Cupertino seem to be preparing for years, and the closer we are, harder is to keep all the details secret. Luckily for us, the information in many cases is contradictory, so that your arrival will end up being a surprise with great security. For now, what we are discovering is that the components that will make possible the devices that Apple is preparing, those hypothetical Apple Glass, are already being tested for entry into production. Specifically, from The Information indicate that Apple is working with Foxconn to bring to the production phase in tests semi-transparent lenses that would make possible the projection of information on them. In any case, and as optimistic as this report may seem,...
Preparation for Tropical Storm Fay has begun in New York City, as the powerful storm barrels toward the area Friday. The city’s Office of Emergency Management has been activated — virtually — ahead of Fay, which is expected to dump 2 to 4 inches of rain and pack sustained winds of 50 mph. “We have activated our flash flood plan yesterday, which means we’ve had the Department of Environmental Protection and others out throughout the city clearing the catch basins because we do know that’s a concern across the city,” OEM Commissioner Deanne Criswell said at a press briefing Friday. She also said the city’s downed tree task force is “on alert because we do expect that we’re going to have some damage to trees because of the winds that are coming in.” Fay was churning northward at 10 mph Friday morning and expected to make landfall along the New...
WASHINGTON – As public health authorities call on Americans to avoid crowds and participate in quieter Independence Day celebrations as the coronavirus cases pick up, President Donald Trump will celebrate in a big way with what he promises. It will be a “special night” in the country’s capital. Trump is slated to celebrate his “Salute to the United States” on Saturday with a speech from the White House grounds that will remember the American heritage, a military air parade over Washington, and a massive fireworks display expected to rally thousands of people on the National Mall. The celebration comes a day after Trump kicked off the holiday weekend by traveling to Mount Rushmore for a fireworks display near the iconic busts of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. The President delivered a combative speech in which he accused protesters of racial injustice of participating in...
The Sears at Landmark Mall is holding a store-closing sale, signaling the end for the last tenant at the shuttered Alexandria shopping venue. The store is promoting steep discounts in local newspaper ads and has job listings posted for cashiers to assist in closing operations. I’ve reached out to a representative from Sears owner Transform Holdco for comment and will update this story when I hear back. The 51-acre Landmark Mall site, located at 5801 Duke St., has long been a focus of grand redevelopment plans even before the central mall closed in 2017. But there’s been little progress in recent years. Mall owner The Howard Hughes Corp. (NYSE: HHC) purchased the shuttered Macy’s store at the site in 2017 to start assembling the different lots at the site. In late 2018, the Dallas company said it reached a partnership with Seritage Growth Properties (NYSE: SRG), the...
“I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election… if I win.” That was then-candidate Donald Trump’s message to his supporters and the nation just a month before his victory over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race. Four years later, with less than five months to go until the 2020 presidential election, progressive advocacy groups are preparing to mobilize millions of people should Trump lose to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and refuse to accept the results. On Friday, Stand Up America and Indivisible launched a “Protect the Results” campaign aimed at encouraging all Americans to “protect and defend the valid results of the election whether their preferred candidate wins or loses.” “Trump has no respect for the rule of law, and we have no reason to believe he will leave willingly after losing reelection,” Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible, said in a statement. “Preparing for the...
(CNN)At the start of 2020, Africa's tourism industry was predicted to grow. The United World Tourism Organization, or UNWTO, estimated a 3 to 5% increase in international arrivals to the continent as a result of demand for air travel and easier visa processes. As coronavirus hit, airports were shut down, tourists stopped arriving and the industry was forced to pause. Many countries on the continent also imposed lockdowns, shutting down hotels, tour companies, event centers and public transportation.
