McCaulay, a 61-year-old actuary who lives in Alexandria, Va., outside of Washington D.C., is not the only squatter who has filed to trademark names the NFL team could potentially pursue. But he has been at it for about six years, becoming ultra aggressive of late as the inevitability of the name change became more apparent. In a potentially disastrous blunder, the World Health Organization made an announcement on Monday about COVID-19 that experts are saying was a gigantic mistake. The announcement addressed this question: Can people infected with COVID-19 who don’t display any symptoms still transmit the infection to others? For months now, public health officials have said yes, and this fact has driven many of the extreme measures countries across the world have taken in response. Because the virus that causes COVID-19, called SARS-CoV-2, can transmit even when a person doesn’t have symptoms, much of the world’s population has sought to avoid unnecessary contact with others for fear that anyone could be carrying the deadly pathogen. But in a CNBC article published Monday reported WHO officials suggesting at a recent briefing in Geneva that transmission from people without symptoms is “very rare.” This report blew up on social media, as it gave many who...

Washington — The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week after a police officer pressed his knee to Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, leaving him struggling to breathe, sparked nationwide protests against police brutality and calls for policing reforms. While Congress has begun crafting legislation aimed at addressing inequities in the criminal justice system, the Supreme Court could as soon as Monday announce whether it, too, will jump into the national conversation on policing as it weighs appeals involving the legal doctrine that shields law enforcement from lawsuits for constitutional violations. At their weekly conference Thursday, the justices were scheduled to discuss at least half a dozen cases pending before the court that involve qualified immunity, the legal doctrine that protects government officials from liability for conduct on the job unless they violate "clearly established" constitutional rights. The doctrine was created by the high court decades ago, but legal...
It’s been a brutal few months since the nation went on “lockdown” in response to alarming — and since repeatedly revised down — COVID-19 model predictions. President Trump, who reluctantly supported the extreme “social distancing” measures but has since been calling for their rapid roll back, has watched his historically good economy collapse and jobless claims skyrocket at an unprecedented rate. On Friday, the embattled president finally got some good news — news that has stunned the experts. The unemployment rate for May, predicted by Dow Jones experts to rise to a devastating 19.5% from April’s 14.7%, instead dropped by more than 2 percent to 13.3%. Despite the ongoing COVID-19/lockdown crisis, the U.S. economy managed to create more than 2.5 million jobs in May, according to the Labor Department’s Friday report. That gain, as The Daily Wire noted, is “by far the biggest one-month jobs gain in U.S. history since at least 1939.”...

New York (CNN Business)Moderna set off a frenzy on Wall Street earlier this month when it announced positive, preliminary results from its coronavirus vaccine trial. As the hype grew, the young biotech company and its leading investor wasted no time capitalizing on the briefly surging stock price.Even as critics accused Moderna of overhyping the results released on May 18, a series of transactions were executed before its share price fizzled over the next week. The timing of those deals, former SEC officials said, appear to be "highly problematic" and should be investigated for potential illegal market manipulation.Just hours after revealing the promising vaccine results, Moderna (MRNA) sold 17.6 million shares to the public. That share sale, unveiled after the closing bell on May 18, was priced at $76; Moderna traded at just $48 as recently as May 6. The deal instantly raised $1.3 billion. Two of Moderna's top executives also cashed...
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ratcheted the Trump administration’s criticism of China to new heights Sunday, asserting the Chinese Communist Party has become “much more aggressive” over the past decade in attempts to undermine America on the world stage. “This is a Chinese Communist Party that has come to view itself as intent upon the destruction of Western ideas, Western democracies [and] Western values,” Mr. Pompeo said in an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” “It puts Americans at risk,” the secretary of state said, asserting that the list of actions taken by the government in Beijing is “long, whether it’s stealing American intellectual property, destroying hundreds and millions of jobs here in the United States, or their efforts to put at risk sea lanes in the South China Sea, denying commercial traffic the opportunity to move through, armed encampments in places that China has no right to be.”...
