West Virginia leads in COVID vaccinations with this simple solution Justices won’t take up Pennsylvania election case on ballots © (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images) TAXWATCH Texans have extra time to file their taxes this year, the Internal Revenue Service said Monday, attempting to give Lone Star-state residents more time to pick up the pieces of their financial lives after a devastating winter storm hit approximately a week ago. All Texas residents now have a June 15 deadline to file their 2020 income taxes and pay any federal taxes owed, the IRS said. This deadline extension also applies to taxpayers who have a business in the disaster area, the IRS said, noting this also pushes back the March 15 business-tax-return filing deadline. The rest of the country has the April 15 deadline, even though some lawmakers want to change that. There may be scenarios where someone will qualify for...
For the second week in a row, John Oliver went after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight — torching the senator and fellow Texas Republicans for their various mistakes amid the climate crisis in their state. The host first mocked Cruz for telling the world he was “bullied into international travel by twin” before consequently getting “cyber-bullied into coming home by the internet, leaving his wife to solo parent two kids on vacation in another country while trying to figure out who in her mom group doxxed her.” “It’s all amazing,” added the host. Oliver later went after former Texas governor  Rick Perry for claiming Texans would rather lack power than have federal regulations, calling him the “ultimate example of self-defeating Texan swagger this week.” “Oh, fuck off, Rick Perry,” Oliver added. “Far be it from me to question the wisdom of a man who failed running for president twice, and who...
The journalist Vicente Vallés has become one of the voices more criticism with the management of the coalition government, which has earned him the odd dialectical confrontation with Podemos and especially the leader of the formation, Pablo Iglesias. The arguments with which every night, from Monday to Friday, Vallés reels the news have come to raise blisters in the purple formation. In an interview in Telva, the presenter has referred to all those attacks he has received and has tried to take away the iron from the matter. “They are things that happen, not only me but more colleagues. Unfortunately, attacking journalists has almost become a habit, “lamented Vallés. The controversy with Vallés broke out in July, when Iglesias assured in a press conference from Moncloa that it was necessary “normalize” “criticism” and even “insult” in social networks against public figures, thus justifying the attacks that Echenique had made...

Washington The robot analyst of the diligence of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which successfully landed on Mars on Thursday, is correct, according to other data. This follows from Friday’s presentation on the Mars 2020 rover mission, during which NASA released other photos of the landing from the red planet. One of the photos shows the vehicle parked on the ropes just before landing. According to the project’s chief engineer Adam Steltzner, the rover was taken from this block when it was two meters above the planet’s surface. Among other things, experts from the US space agency showed a picture of the fall of perseverance on a parachute. It acquired the NASA MRO (Mars Reconstruction Orbiter) satellite, which has been orbiting Mars since March 2006. The rover’s diligence successfully managed a dramatic...
It is a text expected for almost two years. The 4D bill – decentralization, decomplexification, deconcentration and differentiation – will ” be sent to the Council of State ” from this week “In order to allow its presentation to the Council of Ministers at the beginning of next spring”, announced Prime Minister Jean Castex during a trip to Orléans on February 13, 2021. “Local elected officials are waiting for a decentralized state that is very present, reinforced with the role of the prefect, a desire for greater flexibility in public action and a better adaptation of the law to local needs”, explained last October to The gallery the Minister for Territorial Cohesion and Relations with Local Authorities. “We are already in a decentralized Republic. Of course, there are still transfers to be made, but we are not going to make ten laws of decentralization! The State exercises sovereign powers...
If Democratic politicians’ hypocrisy were an energy source, Americans could let their lights burn around the clock and never see a bill. Democrats are roasting Republican Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri for objecting to the Electoral College votes of Arizona and Pennsylvania due to serious questions about ballot-box irregularities. Democrats have reported these two lawmakers to the Senate Ethics Committee for their January 6 legislative intervention, which, unfortunately, coincided with the U.S. Capitol riot. Some Democrats aim to expel congressional Republicans who challenged Electoral College votes at last month’s certification ceremony. Democrats are likely convinced corporate Cancelistas to terminate PAC donations to as many as seven Republican senators and 138 GOP House members who opposed electors from six states. One of the most widespread fashions in the world of sports is that of prediction games, something that has come to be encompassed as’Fantasy‘. In football or basketball they have existed for years (Comunio, Biwenger, Fantastic League, ACB Supermanager …), but in Formula 1 it is a relatively recent phenomenon. Although for years it was possible to do a similar kind of game, the ‘F1 Fantasy‘in recent times it has been refining, but mechanics It is basically the same as in other sports: each player has a team (this year they can have up to three) with a limited budget with which they have to make a kind of team, made up of five drivers (of which one will score double) and a constructor. Depending on their performance, each driver will achieve some points (positive or negative, if their performance is bad) that will give a final result to...

Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has been an outspoken critic of Serbian World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, and fans have thoroughly loved this banter. But now, the 35-year-old reveals that he has great expectations from the 17-time Grand Slam champion. In terms of organizing a tournament, Tennis Australia is far ahead of last year’s chaos amid the pandemic outbreak. Even the Serbian ace had been responsible for some of the mess. Organizing the Adrian Tour during the season shutdown, Djokovic opened himself and others to the coronavirus risk. Later on, he along with many players were tested positive for the virus. Great coaches make great athletes. While this may be partly true, other factors stimulate a sports person’s career. For instance, in tennis, many players have one of the parents as their coach. So when Alexander Zverev decided to go back to his roots, compatriot Nicolas Kiefer saw nothing wrong with it. The situation arose after Spain’s David Ferrer decided to part ways with Zverev. Because the pandemic outbreak is still very much active, the former World No. 3 Ferrer wanted to stay at home. Hence, Sascha will have to begin his 2021 season with his father Alexander Sr. as his main coach. Recently, he also confirmed his split with Roger Federer‘s Team8 Sports and Entertainment agency. MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It is the hot topic coursing through the halls of Congress and apparently within the White House: Should the president be removed making use of the 25th Amendment? “Having a president inciting insurrection, probably, is about as good as an example as you can get,” said Charles Zelden, a political science professor at Nova Southeastern University. Removing a president because he is judged unfit is a simple procedure, at least on paper – the Constitution. Article II, Section 4, provides: The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. “The decision is made by the cabinet and the vice president that the president is not fit to do the office of the president for health reason or capacity reasons,” Zelden said. The most senior of Luxembourgian royals are finding themselves in the hot seat after spending Christmas abroad.  Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, both 64, spent Christmas in their Biarritz near the border home in France, 720 miles away near the border with Spain, at their 'secret' retreat.  The public found out when Duke Henri himself remarked that he was in Biarritz on December 24 when he co-signed a new set of new sanitary restrictions aiming to curb the spread of Covid-19.  Although the couple did not break any rules, their getaway has since been criticised by national newspaper Luxemburger Wort which accused the pair of 'setting a bad example'. There are currently no rules restricting travel outside Luxembourg, however, the country instated a curfew from 9pm to 6am everyday, which prevents people being in public spaces aside from essential reasons such as seeking medical care. ...

Celebrities are throwing parties during the pandemic. DANNY MOLOSHOK/Reuters/Jacopo Raule/Getty Images Celebrities have been throwing parties and going on vacation during the pandemic — and posting about it on social media.  Their actions are reckless despite the precautions they take, and they put those around them, including staff who have to work their events, at risk.  Celebrities' laissez-faire attitudes about partying sets a bad example for their followers. But posting is a form of social currency and literal income for many celebrities, so they likely won't stop sharing photos of their unsafe gatherings despite the risks they pose. Despite her success, many people focus on the 17-year-old's sparkling outfits, high ponytails, and hair bows to argue that she acts younger than her age.  Two communications professors told Insider that while it's normal to comment on the appearance of celebrities, constant attention to Siwa's clothes and hair could negatively impact her young fans. Tapper showed the exchange where Governor Andrew Cuomo blew a gasket over a basic question about schools before remarking, “What is confusing for a lot of people, Sanjay, is New York City closing the public schools for this three percent positivity rate, but not closing bars, gyms, restaurants. Does that make any sense to you?” “It doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Gupta said. “It sounds like they created these guidelines, maybe didn’t sort of play it all the way through, and now they end up in this situation.” Tapper took note of the the United States coming close to...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that he was considering ordering a statewide curfew to restrict the spread of coronavirus, and was looking at studies from Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, and elsewhere to provide possible models. The posts would have you believe the blazing graphics of the Series X are so demanding they can cause an Xbox to catch fire, but the reality is much simpler than Xbox consoles spontaneously bursting into flame. The actor also expressed sadness that so many Americans still voted for Trump, but hoped that supporters of President-elect Joe Biden would “set an example” for them. “Well, I’m relieved,” De Niro told MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Monday night when asked about the outcome of the presidential election. “Thank God.” De Niro, however, remained dismayed that nearly half the country voted for Trump for a second term. “It’s the same playbook as Mussolini, as Hitler, as a dictator, wannabe dictators,” the actor said. “It’s what they’re going to do for the people, make Germany great again, make Italy great again, make America great again.” De Niro continued, “It’s all appealing to the worst prejudices, the worst weaknesses of the public, and instead of leading them...

In an op-ed published on NBC News, Steele, who served as his party’s top official between January 2009 and January 2011, opened by noting that he is an “American, a conservative and a Republican, in that order.” He went on to write of growing up in the Black community, which almost universally supports Democrats, even though he himself saw more value in the platform of the Republicans. “I recognized that the values articulated by President Ronald Reagan echoed those of my mother — a sharecropper’s daughter who worked in a laundry,” he wrote. He then went on to lay out some key points in his life and career of advocating for conservative principles, including his time...
Joe Biden tested negative for COVID-19, he said. The former vice president tweeted the news on Thursday, saying that he had been tested on Wednesday evening. Sen. Kamala Harris, Biden's running mate, canceled her campaign travel through Sunday after her communications direction, as well as a member of the campaign's charter plane staff, tested positive for the virus. Campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said neither of the infected individuals were in close contact, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with Biden or Harris within the past 48 hours, rendering self-quarantining a non-necessity. "Our campaign’s contact tracing remains ongoing, and my team will continue to share any significant developments with the American people," Biden tweeted. "If anything, let this serve as an example of the importance of wearing masks and keeping a safe, social distance." Our campaign’s contact tracing remains ongoing, and my team...
'Tis the season for publications and websites to let us know whether we should feel good about where we live. And U.S. News & World Report's just-released roster should give those who reside in Boulder and Denver, as well as Coloradans in general, a warm glow. The outlet's "150 Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2020-21" ranks Boulder first and Denver second — and as a bonus, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins finish in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The only other city to squeeze into the top five is Austin, Texas, with the six-through-ten slots occupied by Charlotte, North Carolina; Des Moines, Iowa; Fayetteville, Arkansas; Portland, Oregon, and San Francisco, California. The many lists of this sort seldom agree with each other. For example, Money magazine recently dubbed Parker the second-best place to live in the country and ranked Broomfield eighteenth — yet neither of these communities...
(CNN)For months, Tony Green was skeptical that the threat of Covid-19 was real. Then he hosted a small family gathering in June where everyone got sick.Green told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Monday that he sees himself as example to others. "We have to be the example to, I guess, bring awareness (of what can happen at a small gathering)," he said. After all six people -- Green, his partner and their parents -- at the weekend event got sick, eight more people in their families tested positive, bringing the total to 14. Green, who lives in Texas, ended up in the hospital and doctors saved him from a having a stroke, he said. He was better in a few days. The past decade or so has been tough for Frontier Airlines. Once the pride of Denver, the carrier has suffered through years of terrible consumer reviews, public-relations disasters and labor strife. And now, compounding the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel, the firm is now being used as an example of why Congressional aid to the industry as a whole should be tied to customer protection — thanks partly to Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser's call for a federal investigation into Frontier's practices. Weiser is among forty attorneys general from across the country to sign an October 1 letter to Congressional leaders urging them to "enact new consumer protection measures for airline industry customers whether as part of a financial relief package or in separate legislation as soon as possible," according to Weiser's office. That missive, released by the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), makes prominent mention...
The argument against college football was simple: How can you ask college football players not to act like college kids? How can you expect them not to socialize? Not to attend parties? Go to bars? Turns out, the bigger question was, how can we get adults to act their age? Because as this precarious season that is being held together by duct tape, papier-mâché and nothing more than hope moves forward, the adults aren’t setting the proper examples. Like the expression, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Too many coaches aren’t wearing masks on the sideline for the duration of their games. Notre Dame president, Rev. John Jenkins, contracted the virus after being seen without a mask at a White House event. Georgia seemed to have more than the announced crowd of 20,524 on hand for its win over Auburn on Saturday night based on photos and...
TV host Piers Morgan took to Twitter on Friday morning to call out Donald Trump haters for celebrating the president’s COVID-19 diagnosis. As reported at the time by The Inquisitr, on Friday it was announced that both the 45th president, as well as first lady Melania Trump, have tested positive for the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus. Some Twitter commenters used the occasion to deride the president for his approach to the coronavirus pandemic. For example, one user noted that Trump had previously mocked his opponent, Joe Biden, for wearing a mask. “Hey Donny, l can hardly wait to see you deride our next president Joe Biden for wearing a mask again,” they tweeted. “He showed zero empathy for the 200,000 poor souls who lost their lives to Covid. I think this is divine intervention for mocking people who wear masks and his lack of empathy for his...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The University of Notre Dame's president has issued an apology for not wearing a mask at a White House event after pictures surfaced online of him shaking hands and sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with people without one. Rev. John I. Jenkins attended the Rose Garden ceremony Saturday for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee. Jenkins' letter Monday explained he was there because Barrett is a Notre Dame alumna and law professor. He also pointed out that upon arrival, he and other guests received rapid-response COVID-19 tests, the South Bend Tribune reported. “I regret my error of judgment in not wearing a mask during the ceremony and by shaking hands with a number of people in the Rose Garden,” Jenkins wrote in his letter to students, faculty and staff. “I failed to lead by example, at a time when I’ve asked everyone else in...

OAKLAND, Calif. Twitter has apologized after its automatic image cropping algorithm was found to focus on white people’s faces over Black faces when determining the most important part of a picture, The Guardian reports. Users over the weekend began posting pictures of a Black person’s face and a picture of a white person’s face to see which would be selected for focus by Twitter’s preview feature. Eventually, they drew the attention of some of Twitter’s top officials. Twitter’s chief design officer, Dantley Davis, tweeted that he had conducted some unscientific tests of his own with photos and said the company would investigate the neural network it uses to automatically crop the previews it uses for images. “Heres another example of what Ive experimented with,” he wrote in a tweet that included almost identical pictures of a Black man and a white man. “Its not a scientific test as its an isolated example, but it...
Democratic nominee Joe Biden went after Attorney General Bill Barr for saying that coronavirus lockdown orders were the 'greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history' since slavery.  'Quite frankly they're sick,' Biden remarked of Barr's comments at a Thursday night CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper.   Biden said he was in disbelief that Barr would almost equate 'following the recommendations of the scientific community' to save lives during the coronavirus crisis to 'people being put in chains.'  'You lost your freedom because he didn't act,' Biden said - that comment likely intended for his political rival, President Donald Trump.  The former vice president said he consider fining people on federal property - which is in the president's jurisdiction - for not wearing masks, after having already called for a nationwide mask mandate, which he'd have to implement by putting pressure on governors.  'If you’re on federal property you...

The universe of DeFi is very vast. We have already had the opportunity to treat it on Cryptoast, since its birth in 2019, until its most spectacular news. But, while it is already complex to understand how Bitcoin and blockchain work, taking your first steps in the DeFi universe seems even more complex. Especially for small carriers, who quickly expose themselves to the limits of the Ethereum network, and its exorbitant transaction fees, destroying any hope of wealth creation for those who wanted to invest a few hundred euros in this new fashion. Whether it is by buying fresh tokens on Uniswap, or by participating in the many farming operations. But it’s just as frustrating as being in the right place at the right time and not being part of the general good atmosphere. Tokens that multiply their prices by 1000, protocols that generate several hundred...
National Public Radio (NPR) was slammed online after publishing an article looking back to a ghetto in Nazi-controlled Warsaw as an example of controlling a virulent disease. NPR, which is funded in part by American tax dollars, published a piece titled “The Warsaw Ghetto Can Teach The World How To Beat Back An Outbreak” on Tuesday. The article focused on a typhoid outbreak in Poland in the early 1940s after German dictator Adolf Hitler dominated the country and began stuffing Jews and Pols into crowded neighborhoods known as ghettos. The article is primarily based on a study published in July that credits the Nazis with helping stave off the spread of typhoid in the Warsaw ghetto by enforcing strict sanitation measures and upping their captives’ rations. The study authors, however, give more credit to the Jewish and Polish leaders inside the ghetto for rallying their communities into taking precautionary steps...
Biden's comments appear to be a direct dig at Donald Trump, who has violated numerous public health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic while campaigning, including just last week when he crammed thousands of supporters— most of whom were not wearing masks — onto the White House lawn in the finale of the Republican National Convention to watch him deliver his nomination acceptance speech. Trump has attacked Biden numerous times for being in his "basement" — a favorite GOP talking point that is false, as Biden has been out and about campaigning and holding virtual campaign events. Trump even gave Biden a new nickname on Wednesday, calling him "Joe Hiden'" in a tweet. "I'm trying to set the example," Biden said of his campaign."I'm wearing the protective gear, a mask. ... Making sure we proceed in a way with adequate social distancing and do it the right way." Biden is taking...
On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that President Donald Trump’s speech before the 2020 Republican National Convention on Thursday, was vandalism of the White House, and that the speech was clear proof that the president “doesn’t care less about the spread of this virus” because he brought “all those people there, no mask, no distancing, and the rest?” Which was a slap in the face to science and a poor example. Pelosi said, “[J]ust look at it this way, what further evidence does anyone need that this president doesn’t care less about the spread of this virus than to see what he did, vandalizing, by the way, the White House by bringing all those people there, no mask, no distancing, and the rest? He slapped science right in the face, and what a bad example that was.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – While school districts try to figure out how to safely educate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, some health officials said they could learn a thing or two from summer camps like Sky Ranch in Smith County. “I am the eternal optimist,” said Linda Paulk, Sky Ranch’s president. “So I totally and completely thought we could keep COVID from entering.” Paulk said she now realizes that wasn’t realistic. Sky Ranch dealt with a series of COVID -19 cases this year, but she believes the rules put in place did help. “It caused us to think outside the box about everything we were doing,” she said. Paulk said of Sky Ranch’s summer population, less than a quarter of 1% tested positive for COVID-19 and most of those were staffers. At one point organizers had to pause camp after a series of positive cases left them without enough staff. At...

With many European kings and queens having donned face masks for in-person engagements since the easing of lockdown in their countries, members of the British royal households are yet to be seen in a face covering. Prince Charles, 71, and Camilla, 72, chose not to wear masks while venturing out for a three day tour of Cornwall this week, while Prince William, 38, and Kate Middleton, 38, have also opted to for-go the covering for recent in-person engagements. The decision by the British royal family not to wear masks during public engagements comes in stark contrast to the attitude undertaken by their European counterparts. Queen Letizia, 47, and King Felipe of Spain, 52, have frequently stepped out wearing medical masks during their tour of the country over the last month, while Queen Matilde of Belgium has often colour-matched her mask to her outfit.  FEMAIL understands the Duke and Duchess of...

Being totally clear, this function It is only useful if you need to enter the same texts very often or if you like to write with abbreviations but they are automatically transformed into the whole word. To give you an idea, with the replacement of text you can create different shortcuts to write certain things. (CNN)An attack on Twitter this past week exposed an alarming reality less than four months before the United States' presidential election: social media companies, the government and American citizens are all dangerously unprepared for the "black swan" events that could throw the election into chaos. On Wednesday, about 130 Twitter accounts of prominent people, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Bill Gates and Elon Musk, were hacked. The hackers sent out tweets from the compromised accounts asking people for Bitcoin payments. While it was fixing the problem, Twitter temporarily suspended all verified accounts. Kara Alaimo The incident revealed that, four years after Americans learned how easily an election can be manipulated via social media, the country is still not close to safeguarding the 2020 election. A big part of the problem is that, as Nassim Nicholas Taleb wrote in his book "The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable," when...

Coronavirus — The health crisis caused by Covid-19 has divided a large part of the citizens. Despite the tension and the debate in Spain about how it is trying to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is very clear: “Spain brought the epidemic under control thanks to a combination of leadership, humility and an active participation of its society“Tedros announced at a press conference, praising how Spain acted in the face of the pandemic. One of the most criticized topics in Spain was the delay in acting in order to contain the coronavirus and prevent it from spreading throughout the country, but Tedros considers that the important thing is to act in the best possible way: “It is never too late to act” he claimed. With these statements, he wanted to make it clear that even...

It’s not the first time they have been suited up for action — they were wreaths every December and donned Mets and Yankees caps during...
Bradley Cortright June 29, 2020 0 Comments As the country sees an increase in new coronavirus cases, some are suggesting there should be a mandate to wear face masks to help stop the spread of the virus.  New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) says President Donald Trump should set an example for Americans and wear a face mask in public.  “Let the President lead by example and let the President put a mask on it because we know it works,” Cuomo said during his press conference on Monday. Along with wearing a mask, Cuomo said Trump should sign an executive order to require Americans to wear masks, “Sign an executive order directing everyone to wear a mask. How we’re at this point as a nation, and we still haven’t done the simple, easy, minimal step of saying you must wear a mask when you’re in public?” “The President doesn’t have to pass a...

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) appeared on CNN Sunday and seemed to chastise U.S. President Donald Trump for not wearing a mask during the COVID-19 pandemic. If Trump wears a mask, the senator hypothesized, then the president’s voters will do as he does. The senator expressed this sentiment on CNN’s “Inside Politics.” “Well, I wish the president would wear a mask when it’s appropriate, because millions of Americans admire him, and they would follow his lead. And his experts have told all of us that wearing masks, social distancing and washing your hands is the way we can contain the disease, to go back to school and back to work. It also would help to get rid of this political debate that if you’re for President Trump, you don’t wear a mask, and if you’re against President Trump, you do wear a mask. The stakes are...
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R- TN) said Sunday that President Donald Trump should be wearing a mask to send a signal to the country about the importance o doing so. The president has been criticized for not wearing a mask and not doing more to encourage nationwide mask-wearing amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. CNN’s Manu Raju spoke with Alexander on Inside Politics and first asked about covid spikes in states like Tennessee. At one point Raju brought up the need for people to wear masks and how Alexander himself has worn one, before asking, “The president, however, he refuses to wear one. The vice president continues to say this is an issue states should decide. Should the Whit House do more and the president do more to urge Americans to wear masks?” “I wish the president would wear a mask when it’s appropriate,” Alexander said. “Because millions of Americans admire...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a nationwide requirement to wear face masks is “long overdue” during a Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week.” The wearing of face masks as an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus has become a hotly debated issue of late with Democrats tending to be in favor of mandatory masking and many Republicans taking the position that such a policy is an unenforceable governmental overreach. Earlier this week, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said he would issue an executive order that would require all Americans to wear face masks. “Is it time to mandate the wearing of masks across the country?” ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi. WATCH: “Oh, it’s definitely long overdue for that,” Pelosi responded. “And my understanding is that the Centers for Disease Control has recommended the use of masks but not required it because they don’t want offend the...

Although he also wanted to clarify that the main focus is on young people, whose age ranges between 20 and 30 years, which “They have taken to the streets, they have organized meetings of more than 10 people, prohibited at this time.”...
Getty Tom Brady ESPN writer Ian O’Connor pulled no punches when he called out Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady for what he described as “setting a dreadful example.” The object of O’Connor’s criticism is the defiant offseason private workouts Brady has insisted upon conducting despite being advised to stop by the National Football Players Association, and rising COVID-19 cases in Florida, where he and members of the Bucs are working out. Follow the Heavy on Patriots Facebook page for the latest breaking news, rumors, and content! O’Connor wrote: Tom Brady has been an earnest and largely reliable role model for two decades, and yet this week he has been setting a dreadful example for the millions who admire him. As the coronavirus pandemic rages across the nation, and through his adopted state of Florida, Brady has defied the recommendation of the NFL Players Association’s medical director and worked out with...
(CNN)America was born in rebellion and it's a spirit that still runs deep in its character. The perennial American struggle between government and the veneration of individual liberty is boiling to a head again: Some citizens are balking at expert guidance for them to cover their faces, in order to check the spread of the coronavirus. If you live in a country where the balance between personal rights and collective well-being falls differently, you might consider the refusal to wear a mask to be pure selfishness. But while plenty of Americans are wearing masks, rebellion is part of the country's political DNA. Ashley Smith from North Carolina, for example, recently burned a mask in a frying pan in a Facebook video, and told CNN sister channel HLN that mandatory mask use infringes "our freedoms." In Arizona, where the coronavirus infection rate is spiking, Charles Gbekia said he wouldn't wear a mask even...
After nearly a year of planning, and a $5 million budget, Ramsey County and its community catalyst team have chosen nine residents to “co-govern” alongside board members as an effort to involve more minority voices in policy making. The program, called Transforming Systems Together, flips the decision-making process. Normally community comment is sought after draft proposals are in place. TST’s thrust is to bring community members in during the early planning stages and allow them to be part of the process. The board unanimously approved all nine committee members and six alternates at its meeting Tuesday, a vote that got emotional for some. “Today we will see a new light emerging from out of the darkness of the past,” said John Poupart, a representative for the American Indian community. In August 2019, the county approached seven community members with a request to help them nominate a partnership committee. These members...
When it comes to candidates for top prosecutor in many of America’s biggest cities, Bernie Sanders’ previous endorsements have foreshadowed some of the most exciting. In 2019, the Senator and erstwhile presidential candidate endorsed Chesa Boudin, a lifelong criminal justice reformer whose parents spent decades in prison, for San Francisco District Attorney. Sanders also endorsed Tiffany Cabán, a young public defender who ran on the boldest, most anti-mass incarceration platform ever seen in a leading DA candidate. While Cabán narrowly lost the race on a recount, she energized the younger voting generations around these elections. Now, at a time when law enforcement practices in the US are the cause of unprecedented mass protest—and coming off of his disappointing recent contribution to the Biden-Bernie “unity task force” on criminal justice—Sanders has released a slate of 10 endorsements for county prosecutor candidates. All are running as the progressive choice in Democratic primaries for the November 2020 races. Let’s dive into his picks. In Honolulu...
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told "The Ingraham Angle" Friday that the time is right for President Trump to resume his signature campaign rallies, with the first one scheduled for Saturday, June 20 in Tulsa, Okla. "I have been advising the president for some time to get back out there and thank the American people for the enormous sacrifices that they have made in order to flatten the curve on this virus," Christie told host Laura Ingraham. "Now he needs to thank them and encourage them to go back to work." Ingraham noted the criticism of the president for holding a rally in a large indoor space, even as health officials express anxiety about an apparent spike in the number of coronavirus cases in more than 20 states. Video"The fact of the matter," Christie said, "is that these lockdowns have caused people to lose their livelihoods, and lose their savings and people are distraught, they are committing domestic violence,...
Sports are slowly attempting to come back, but the novel coronavirus pandemic isn’t going away. The most recent example is the University of Houston. The Cougars suspended voluntary workouts for all student-athletes on Friday “out of an abundance for caution” when it discovered six symptomatic cases and an increase in positive tests in the Houston area over the last week. The students who tested positive were put in isolation and tracing procedures were initiated. Starting on June 1, the NCAA allowed for voluntary workouts, and there have several positive cases arising at campuses across the country. Houston, though, is the first school to suspend workouts, just the latest example of how difficult it will be to have a college football season that starts on time.
