by Debra Heine  Since January 25, 108 illegal immigrants released into Texas by Border Patrol have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19. According to a spokesperson for Brownsville, a town on the Texas border, that number represents 6.3 percent of those who have taken the test.  The migrants are tested at the city’s main bus station, where they are being released by the Border Patrol. According to NBC News, several of the illegal immigrants “plan to travel to dozens of cities throughout the country” despite testing positive for the coronavirus. A Brownsville official told Noticias Telemundo Investiga that it does not have the authority to prevent those who test positive from traveling elsewhere in the U.S., but are advising them to voluntarily quarantine, and follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and socially distance. Eva Orellana, 29, who is from Honduras and who tested positive, said she...
Senate Democrats are preparing to fully underwrite COBRA subsidies for laid-off workers in their version of the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill, which would also aid illegal immigrants, according to a report from Politico. After the House passed the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion coronavirus bill on partisan lines, Senate Democrats are now preparing their version of the mammoth legislation. Politico reported that Senate Democrats want to increase the COBRA subsidies to help laid-off workers so that they can continue to stay on their employer-provided healthcare plan rather than shop for a plan on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) exchanges. The House version of the legislation allowed for subsidies to pay for 85 percent of COBRA premiums to laid-off workers, including illegal immigrants. The Senate Democrat version would reportedly increase the subsidies to 100 percent of premiums, which would cost roughly $15 billion. Politico wrote that this potential increase in COBRA subsidies resulted from...
At least 108 migrants from Mexico tested positive for coronavirus before they were released into Texas by the US Border Patrol over the past five weeks, a new report claims.   A spokesperson for Brownsville, the border city where the tests were administered, disclosed the alarming figure to Fox News on Wednesday.   The spokesman, Felipe Romero, said the 108 individuals who tested positive account for 6.3 percent of the more than 1,700 migrants who have received rapid tests at a Brownsville bus station before being released into the state since January 25.   Romero said the positive individuals were advised to quarantine, but officials don't have the authority to force them to do so or to stop them from traveling elsewhere in the US.   The news followed a Noticias Telemundo Investiga (NTI) report which featured interviews with several migrants who said they tested positive for the virus and planned to proceed with their...

Former Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Mark Morgan says President Joe Biden’s border policies are emboldening cartels and smugglers to bring children to the border and “it’s almost too late” to avert a crisis. “Bill, it’s almost too late … because this administration has absolutely dismantled and destroyed every effective policy that had reduced the flow,” Mark Morgan told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.” “Like you said this time last year, it is over 100% increase in minors alone [at the border],” he continued. “If you want to talk about cruelty, look … this country right now, Bill, is actually encouraging and facilitating and incentivizing moms and dads in countries in the western hemisphere to hand their kids over to cartels and smuggling organizations to make the dangerous trek during the middle of the global pandemic to illegally enter this country.” WATCH: Biden’s immigration reforms could create...
Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, says he believes the Biden administration’s immigration policies are "prioritizing illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens." President Joe Biden yesterday said the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border was not a crisis and that his administration "will be able to handle it." The comments come amid an Axios report citing DHS projections that 117,000 unaccompanied children are expected to cross the border in 2021. (CNN)Last month, an email obtained by Axios revealed that Joe Biden's administration is encouraging the elimination of the use of the term "alien" or "illegal alien" in favor of "undocumented individual" or "undocumented noncitizen" in all official documents, outreach efforts and other communications, to describe those in the US who are not citizens. It's a significant development that is welcomed by advocates of the undocumented, since the long-standing use of "alien" is a not-so-subtle dog whistle that has been effectively used to dehumanize not only the undocumented, but actual American citizens. Ed MoralesAnd it's also a reflection of the difficult task the Biden administration faces: appearing to be serious on protecting the border while at the same time restoring some humanity to immigration enforcement policy, a challenge Barack Obama's administration struggled with. Dispensing with the use of the terms "alien" and "illegal" could go a long way to lessening...
As the discussion over President Joe Biden’s open border immigration policies heats up, at least one Democrat Senator wants to go even farther than allowing tens of thousands of illegal aliens into the country based on asylum claims. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA), who took Kamala Harris’s Senate seat, wants to give millions of illegal aliens a pathway to citizenship if they are deemed “essential workers.” That wish is now in the form of a bill, the first Padilla has unveiled since taking his seat. Padilla told the San Francisco Chronicle: I think nothing speaks to the moment more than COVID response and fairness for essential workers. On a parallel track, we know that immigration reform is long overdue in the United States of America and there are no states that have more at stake in immigration reform than the state of California. “A standalone measure allows us to uplift specific...
Americans deserve a raise, but a number of obstacles stand between our poorest workers and a bigger paycheck.   First, Americans have to compete for jobs against millions of illegal immigrants. This competition lowers wages for some and shuts others out of work altogether.   Second, Congress hasn’t increased the federal minimum wage in more than 10 years, when it was raised to $7.25 an hour. Inflation has since eroded the value of that wage by almost 25%, so Americans working full time at a minimum-wage job can buy less with their paycheck today than they could a decade ago.  REP. KEVIN McCARTHY: DEMS' $1.9 TRILLION COVID BILL IS NOT RESCUE OR RELIEF PLAN, IT'S A PELOSI PAYOFF Third, many Democrats are hung up on an unserious scheme to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Their plan doesn’t have the votes to pass, and even if it did, a $15 minimum wage would destroy 1.4 million jobs, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO). To make matters worse, some of the gains from this higher minimum wage would go to illegal immigrants working in jobs that would have otherwise gone to Americans and other legal workers.  Thankfully, Americans do not need...
A Canadian national pleaded guilty Thursday to his role in a financial scheme to smuggle illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka into the United States by way of the Caribbean. Sri Kajamukam Chelliah, 55, of Sri Lanka, admitted to conspiring with others to facilitate the travel of illegal from Sri Lanka through Haiti, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Bahamas to the U.S. around July 2019 through October 2019, according to his plea agreement. Wednesday, FNC host Tucker Carlson dissected the new Biden administration’s approach to immigration policy and why it might be offering low estimates on the number of illegal immigrants within the country. The “Tucker Carlson Tonight” host speculated a process was underway by the White House to import as many Democratic voters as possible. Transcript as follows: CARLSON: Have you ever noticed how nobody in Washington can agree on a number? Now math is supposed to be objective except in Oregon where it is racist. But in the real world, you would think that people with functioning calculators could come to similar math-based conclusions once in a while, but not in D.C. Have you ever noticed that nobody in Washington can agree on a number? You would think that people with functioning calculators could come to similar math- based conclusions once in a while, but not in D.C. Try getting a consensus on unemployment projections or consumer confidence levels from members of Congress. You can't even get a straight answer on how many troops will be occupying the Capitol three months from now, and that's something they directly control. So with all of that in mind, it's pretty amazing to watch virtually everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat, repeat precisely the same number on one of the most critical problems that we face. That number is 11 million. That number, they tell us, is exactly how many foreign nationals currently live here illegally.  It's almost like a script now. People have different views on what we ought to do about illegal immigrants, but nobody...

President Biden’s nominee to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra said he would not support giving taxpayer-funded health care benefits to illegal immigrants. When asked during testimony before Congress on Wednesday whether he would consider granting waivers to give health care benefits to illegal immigrants as HHS secretary — given his history of supporting the policy — Becerra said his interpretation of the law as it stands does not support that. "Where the law as it stands now as I see it, it does not allow those who are unauthorized in this country to receive taxpayer-paid benefits except in very rare circumstances," Becerra said. Jack Davis, The Western Journal February 24, 2021 0 Comments Illegal immigrants will get a piece of California’s $7.6-billion COVID-19 relief bill. About $470 million of the bill approved Monday by the state legislature will go to 565,000 individuals who have tax ID numbers but did not get federal stimulus payments in the past and have incomes under $75,000, according to FOX Business. During the Trump administration, individuals in the country illegally were not eligible for federal stimulus checks. Republican state Sen. Jim Nielsen said that although the state was able to afford the spending right now, it was setting a dangerous precedent. “This budget is going to be creating long-term obligations to the undocumented,” Nielsen said during a legislative debate, according to the Los Angeles Times. Advocates for illegal immigrants said they need more. “I think it’s a great step forward. It’s an acknowledgment of all these low-wage workers...
Last weekend, around 157 migrants tried to reach Europe clandestinely from Tunisia, but the coast guard intercepted them in the Mediterranean. A regional spokesperson for the Maritime National Guard in Tunisia stated that “Saturday, 54 illegal migrants were rescued”. Two people died, their corpses were discovered offshore, reports 20 minutes. These migrants are all men, three Syrians and the others all Tunisians. In 2020, many people wanted to leave the Tunisia clandestinely. According to the High Commission for United Nations for refugees (UNHCR), around 12,000 Tunisians arrived in Italy. This year 2021, of the 3,800 migrants disembarked in Italy between January 1 and February 21, 1,000 arrived from Tunisia and 2,500 Libya. > Our file ‘migrants’
Immigration and Customs Enforcement could reportedly release migrants farther north as southern border shelters near the Rio Grande Valley get overwhelmed. ICE is taking the reins on migrant releases from Customs and Border Protection agents in a move that is likely to increase costs of transportation and see detainees move to facilities such as those in the San Antonio area. Federal law enforcement officials cited in the report said that if ICE lacks the resources needed to house the influx of people, migrants could be moved to San Antonio, which is roughly 144 miles away from the border in south-central Texas. The move, which is not, by itself, intended to reduce crowding in facilities, may serve to alleviate the strain on border holding centers. ICE will take control of transport when CBP runs out of housing space. The report follows a spike in border crossings in recent weeks....
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to sign legislation Tuesday that will send $600 stimulus checks to 5.7 million residents including illegal immigrants. State lawmakers passed the legislation Monday, which Gov. Gavin Newsom previously said he would sign if placed on his desk, according to KRON-TV. While the stimulus checks will reach fewer people than the federal stimulus payment program, lawmakers’ goal is to reach individuals, like illegal immigrants, who haven’t received checks. The bill provides $600 checks to individuals enrolled in California’s Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), according to the agreement between Newsom and the state legislature. To qualify for CAPI, an individual must be a “non-citizen,” California state law says. (RELATED: Democrats Worry Biden’s Stimulus Plan Could Cause Hyperinflation. California is set to issue stimulus checks to illegal immigrants after the state legislature approved a multi-billion dollar coronavirus relief package on Monday. The $7.6 billion proposal, spearheaded by Gov. Gavin Newsom, includes 5.7 million payments of $600 each to low-income Californians making less than $30,000 a year and $2.1 billion in grants for small businesses. Of the massive sum of checks, 565,000 payments will be delivered to people who did not receive the federal government's previous $1,200 stimulus check in the Golden State, many of whom are residing in the country illegally. Another 405,000 payments will go to members of CalWORKS, a state welfare program, through EBT cards, and 15,000 checks will be funneled into the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants. The Democratic governor said he plans to sign the legislation on Tuesday. “This budget is going to be creating long-term obligations to the undocumented," said Republican...
by Fred Lucas  President Joe Biden is promoting an immigration bill that could grant amnesty to up to 20 million illegal immigrants. “The Biden administration, in coordination with Democrats on the Hill, introduced legislation that would give citizenship to 10-20 million illegal immigrants,” Jessica Anderson, executive director of Heritage Action for America, said in a public statement. The Biden White House released an outline of the amnesty legislation on his first day in office. In what could be a deal-killer for gaining any Republican support, the legislation doesn’t include proposals for increased border security, according to The Associated Press. This comes as Biden has rolled back several major border security measures through executive action. The proposal comes after Biden ordered federal agencies to stop construction of a southern border wall and signed an executive order to strengthen the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy that gives legal status to...
By reviving the so-called "catch and release" approach of the past, the Biden administration is "facilitating illegal immigration," a former head of Customs and Border Protection argued Saturday. F. Peter Brown, The Western Journal February 20, 2021 0 Comments Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently criticized President Joe Biden’s policy on illegal immigration, saying, “You can’t square wanting open borders for illegal aliens but then also restricting U.S. citizens from basically traveling around the country as they see fit, and I think the American people see the hypocrisy in that.” On Jan. 20, Biden proposed a new immigration plan. This plan would offer a pathway to citizenship for the roughly 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. Andrew Arthur, a resident fellow in law and policy for the Center for Immigration Studies, said: “A further economic downturn could imperil the prospects for the bill. The unemployment rate in Dec. 2020 was 6.7 percent, and more than 56 million working-age Americans were not in the labor force. Tens of thousands of businesses have closed permanently...
Authorities in Texas are looking for more than 100 illegal immigrants who fled from a refrigerated truck in San Antonio after calling authorities for help -- amid fears they could be in danger due to the subzero temperatures hitting the area Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a press conference on Thursday that authorities received a call from a truckload of migrants being smuggled in. He said they needed help and were pleading for air. Texas authorities are searching for dozens of allegedly illegal immigrants who fled from a refrigerated truck parked at a San Antonio gas station, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a press briefing Thursday. Salazar said authorities received a call around 6:00 p.m. Thursday night that “undocumented immigrants [were] being smuggled into the country” in a truck and that they were “pleading” for air. Salazar said that those in the truck had “ripped off the gasket from one of the doors, trying to get some fresh air into the truck,” before they fled. To avoid detection, the smugglers added foam to seal off openings in the truck, which created an “air tight enclosure” that endangered the travelers, Salazar added. When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw people jumping out of the truck. As other deputies arrived, “a large crowd of people came pouring out of the truck,” according...
Law enforcement in Texas announced on Thursday that they are conducting a manhunt to locate at least 100 illegal immigrants who fled from a refrigerated truck. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said his office received calls of illegal immigrants "being smuggled" into the United States. The migrants, who were packed inside of a truck and pleading for air, fled on foot and disappeared into a wooded area when deputies located the vehicle and made their approach, he added. The truck was parked at a gas station in the San Antonio area. Law enforcement officers were able to apprehend 50 people, but more than four dozen are still on the loose, Salazar said, adding that the majority of those captured were men. No children have been brought into custody, according to CNN. The sheriff expressed concern for the well-being of those still eluding capture because Texas, alongside several other Southern states,...
A Texas border mayor is begging President Biden to help his town struggling under extreme weather conditions, the coronavirus pandemic, and an influx of undocumented migrants crossing the border. "I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates, into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas," Bruno Lozano, Mayor of Del Rio, Texas said in a video message to Biden Wednesday. Del Rio is home to 50,000 residents, but with the recent influx in undocumented migrants being released by Border Patrol -- largely due to coronavirus restrictions that limit holding times for illegal immigrants -- the small town has been unable to keep up. President Joe Biden celebrated the release of his proposed bill in Congress Thursday offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. “I look forward to working with leaders in the House and Senate to address the wrongdoings of the past administration and restore justice, humanity, and order to our immigration system,” Biden said in a statement. The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, introduced by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-CA), creates an eight-year path to amnesty for roughly 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the United States. More than 10 million Americans are unemployed in the United States as the coronavirus pandemic continues and seven million remain out of the labor force. The bill that Biden supported would also offer a quicker path to citizenship for farm workers as well as illegal aliens brought to the United States as children who are currently protected under DACA. The bill...
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers will need preapproval from managers to arrest some illegal immigrants if they do not fall into narrow categories, due to new guidance released Thursday. Under the new guidance from the Biden administration, ICE would focus on three categories of immigrants: those who pose a threat to national security; those who have crossed the border since Nov. 1, and those who committed "aggravated felonies." SOME ICE DETAINEES GETTING COVID-19 VACCINE, AGENCY SAYS  The guidance is temporary, lasting three months, until the Department of Homeland Security can issue further guidance. Officials said the guidance does not explicitly prevent anyone from being arrested or deported. Instead, it directs resources at certain targets. However, field officers seeking to arrest someone outside of those three categories would need approval from their chain of command. "By focusing our limited resources on cases that present threats to national security, border security, and...
Around 200 illegal immigrants including at least 40 unaccompanied minors were apprehended in Mission, Texas after being smuggled into the U.S., according to border officials. The illegal immigrants were accompanied across the border by “human smugglers,” according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Rio Grande Valley Chief Patrol Agent Brian Hastings. It was around 43 degrees in Mission, Texas, Wednesday night at 8 p.m. CST when Hastings tweeted about the apprehensions, according to weather tracker Local Conditions. “Nobody comes across that river without a smuggler. Nobody just walks up to the bridge and goes across. A smuggler put them in a raft and paddled them across, probably told them to go up to that road, take a left until you walk into an agent,” CBP Public Affairs Officer Rod Kise told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, said on Tuesday that President Joe Biden and Democrats are proposing legislation to provide amnesty for all illegal immigrants in America. “The president and his supporters in Congress intend to introduce [legislation] to legalize all the illegal immigrants in the United States,” Krikorian stated as the featured guest on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. “At least in the draft that I saw, everyone who arrived by January 1 of this year [would receive amnesty]. So it’s not even people who are firmly established here, it’s all illegal immigrants without any enforcement balance to try to prevent a new illegal population from building up.” The Associated Press, CBS News, CNBC, and similar news media reported that the Biden administration is coordinating with Democrats to introduce legislative amnesty this week for millions of foreigners illegibly residing in the U.S. Rep. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., on Thursday unveiled the text of a sweeping immigration bill backed by President Biden that would grant a pathway to citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants -- while pushing back against those who call it "amnesty." "To those who want to call this bill amnesty, I know there are some," Menendez said. "Ten angels could come swearing from above that this is the best tailored legislation, that it will secure our border, regularize our system and they would say, ‘No, it's amnesty’ -- they will never be satisfied." DEMS TO INTRODUCE BIDEN-BACKED IMMIGRATION BILL, INCLUDES CITIZENSHIP FOR MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS  The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 includes an eight-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, who the White House has estimated to be at 11 million people, but other estimates have put much higher. In addition to the rapid pathway to citizenship, much shorter than previous proposals,...
Immigration and Customs Enforcement rolled out new measures Thursday that limit the categories of immigrants its officers can arrest within the United States. Immigrants who committed less serious crimes now will not be prioritized for arrest, and officers will have to get permission by managers to pursue those people. Under the Trump administration, they did not need permission. Instead, new temporary internal guidance from acting ICE Director Tae Johnson states that the only immigrants the agency’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers will take into custody without first obtaining permission are immigrants who are illegally residing in the U.S. and considered to be a national security, border security, or public safety threat. The instructions are good for approximately 90 days until Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issues official guidance on how the agency should make arrests. “Like every law enforcement agency at the local, state, and federal level,...
Some immigrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have been receiving COVID-19 vaccines -- a move that could stoke Republican fears about illegal immigrants being prioritized over American citizens. CALIFORNIA DEMS ASK NEWSOM TO CLEAR UP CONFUSION OF GETTING COVID VACCINES TO DETAINED IMMIGRANTS The agency noted that vaccines for ICE detainees are allocated by local and state health departments, and it is up to each state to decide when detainees are vaccinated as part of the overall plan. Congressional Democrats on Thursday will unveil a sweeping immigration bill, backed by President Biden, that includes a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants -- although the plan faces tough odds in the Senate. The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 is close to a proposal announced by the White House on Biden’s first day in office. The biggest ticket item is an eight-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants -- which the White House has estimated to be 11 million.  WHITE HOUSE SAYS BIDEN BACKS CITIZENSHIP FOR 11 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, AHEAD OF BILL UNVEILING But it’s just one of a number of items in a broad bill that would also see illegal immigrants farmworkers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients immediately eligible for green cards. There would also be funding for counsel for children and vulnerable adults. It would also open up...
President Joe Biden will unveil legislation this week to provide a pathway to citizenship to the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States. The 'U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021' will reflect Biden's priorities on the issue, including expanding the refugee resettlement program and deploying more technology to the Southern border.  It provides an immediate pathway to citizenship for farmworkers, DACA recipients, and Temporary Protected Status holders.  There is also an 8-year path to citizenship for others, which includes a five-year path to a green card and a three-year path to citizenship after background checks and other steps. White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that President Joe Biden believes that illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children have “rights” to stay in the country. Asked about Biden’s position on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals enacted by former President Barack Obama, Psaki replied that Biden was “somebody who believes in the rights of the DACA recipients to be in the country.” She said that Biden had expressed his support for the program on multiple occasions. “Well there certainly is (support) as part of the proposal that the president outlined and proposed on day one as an earned path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrations who are living in the country,” Psaki said. She responded that Biden would “certainly watch closely” regarding the future of the program after a federal judge in Texas weighs a ruling on the issue. “It is a program that he...

The White House on Tuesday reaffirmed that President Biden backs a controversial plan to create a pathway to citizenship to at least 11 million illegal immigrants -- as the White House and congressional Democrats are expected to formally unveil a sweeping immigration bill as soon as this week. "There certainly is part of the proposal that the president outlined and proposed on Day One that is an earned pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the country," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said. TOP DEM ADMITS PASSING BIDEN IMMIGRATION BILL A 'HERCULEAN' TASK AMID GOP OPPOSITION A pathway to citizenship for all illegal immigrants in the country has long been a top item on liberal wishlists, and Biden promised such a plan if elected. The White House announced Tuesday it is rolling back former President Donald Trump’s policy of sending illegal immigrants back to Mexico to await the results of immigration cases. “Starting February 19, the United States will begin to process eligible individuals in the Migration Protection Protocols (MPP) program to pursue their asylum cases in the U.S., working closely with the Government of Mexico, as well as international and non-governmental organizations,” the White House said in a statement on Tuesday. The program was a Trump administration policy that sought to control the humanitarian crisis at the southern border by returning immigrants to Mexico to await immigration proceedings outside of the United States. “MPP will help restore a safe and orderly immigration process, decrease the number of those taking advantage of the immigration system, and the ability of smugglers and traffickers to prey on vulnerable populations, and reduce threats to life, national security,...
The Biden administration's immigration policies amount to "reopening the border" to illegal aliens and creating the conditions for an illegal immigration spike, a retired Texas sheriff warned on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday. "We do not have the infrastructure in place to take care of those thousands and thousands of people that want to come here," former Rockwall County Sheriff Harold Eavenson told co-host Ainsley Earhardt. "And some of them have criminal histories and they bring that with them into our country as well." Eavenson asserted that the federal government has a duty to provide security for its citizens by enforcing immigration law. He added that the United States is "gullible" for taking in immigrants that their own countries do not want to be responsible for and buying into the "philosophy" of prioritizing immigrants over the safety of citizens. Republican Senators Tom Cotton and Mitt Romney will introduce a bill Tuesday which would raise the minimum wage and ban businesses from hiring illegal immigrants. Cotton released the news in a series of tweets, saying the bill would gradually increase the minimum wage while making sure American citizens are not losing jobs to illegal immigrants. The bill would require employers to verify the legal status of all of their workers so that American citizens have job priority. “Millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet. I’m introducing a bill w/ (Sen. Romney) to give them a raise by increasing the minimum wage and ensuring businesses can’t hire illegal immigrants – protecting American workers,” Cotton said. “Today, Americans have to compete against millions of illegal immigrants who take illegally low wages under the table. We can fix this by requiring employers to verify the legal status of every worker so...
WITH IMPEACHMENT OVER, IT’S TIME FOR AMNESTY… Biden And Democrats To Unveil Bill That Would Provide Pathway To Citizenship For Millions Of Illegal Immigrants
The Biden administration and Democrats in Congress will unveil an immigration reform bill later this week that is expected to include a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants, NBC News reported. The “U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021” will include the immigration commitments that Biden released when he first took office, according to NBC News. The president’s proposal provides a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants, expands the refugee resettlement program and adds new unspecified new technology to the US-Mexico southern border. Additional protections are reportedly being considered in the bill, including increased benefits for DREAMers and dismantling the public charge rule, which limits immigration opportunities for those on government assistance. The Biden administration is also considering splitting the bill into separate pieces to boost its survivability in Congress, NBC News reported. In that case, lawmakers would first pass bills immediately legalizing farmworkers and Dreamers. Recently-installed “Bollard”...

As early as next week, border officials will begin allowing thousands of asylum seekers to cross the border into the U.S. -- a stark reversal of the Trump administraion policy that led more than 68,000 migrants to stay behind. The undoing of the "remain in Mexico" policy, along with reorienting Immigration and Customs Enforcement to prioritize national security threats rather than convicting illegal immigrants with low-level drug offenses, simple assaults and DUIs, signals a major shift in the U.S. immigration process. "He [Biden] created a perfect storm for a surge at the border," said Tom Homan, retired ICE director and Fox News contributor, detailing the constraints placed on Customs and Border Patrol and ICE officials on processing and vetting immigrants at ports of entry. Far-left “Squad” member Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) is calling on Democrats to cancel up to $50,000 in student debt and provide $2,000 monthly payments to both Americans and illegal immigrants following President Biden’s call to “go big” in the next coronavirus relief package. Pressley responded to a February 10 post from Biden, who said that Democrats must “go big” on the next coronavirus relief measure. “That’s right,” she agreed, listing off two of her primary progressive goals. “We can cancel at least $50K in student debt right now and send families, including our immigrant neighbors, $2,000 survival checks a month until this crisis is over,” she said. “Let’s make it happen”: Thats right. The star opener Trevor Bauer was presented this Thursday at Dodger Stadium as the newest figure to the Los Angeles Dodgers roster, current World Series champion. The right-handed pitcher, who had almost everything ready to be linked with the New York Mets, when changing course in the direction of California, becomes the highest paid player in MLB history in 2021 and 2022. However, his career has not been without controversy; In 2016 Bauer openly showed his support for one of the most questioned proposals of former President Donald Trump, who proposed the construction of a wall along the border with Mexico that would keep illegal immigrants out of the country. “I am in favor of the wall. The Biden administration announced this week that it opened a soft-sided facility for immigrants in Donna, Texas, as Republican lawmakers warn of a "rising crisis" at the U.S.-Mexico border. In a statement to Fox News, a spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said the agency’s Centralized Processing Center in McAllen, Texas, is undergoing renovation, necessitating the additional facilities. The primary purpose of the Donna location will be to process individuals in U.S. Border Patrol custody. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was confronted by reporters on Monday about reported pending guidance that would spare some illegal immigrants convicted of less serious offenses from deportation, as the Biden administration lays the framework for its immigration strategy. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is expected to issue new guidance stipulating that undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of driving under the influence, solicitation, simple assault, and drug-based crimes may no longer face deportation, as reported by The Washington Post. Psaki noted that prioritization of who is subject to deportation is ultimately up to the Department of Homeland Security, which will determine who presents the greatest national security threat. "The priority for the enforcement of immigration laws will be on those who are posing a national security threat ... and on recent arrivals," Psaki said during a press briefing. "Nobody is saying that DUIs or assault are acceptable behavior,...
White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended President Joe Biden’s administration on Monday for new orders that will slow deportations of illegal immigrants for drug crimes, driving under the influence, and assaults. The Washington Post reported Sunday that new operational guidelines for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) asked agents to prioritize deportations of “aggravated felony convictions” over drug-based crimes, simple assault, and DUIs. “The priority for the enforcement of immigration laws will be on those who are imposing a national security threat, of course, a public safety threat, and on recent arrivals,” Psaki said during the White House press briefing when asked about the new guidelines. She clarified that illegal immigrants should be prosecuted for crimes, even though the Biden administration was working to reduce the number of criminals deported for breaking the law. “Nobody is saying that DUIs or assaults are acceptable behavior, and those arrested for such activities...
Illegal migrants in the United Kingdom will be granted an “amnesty” from any immigration enforcement actions if they come forward to receive free coronavirus vaccinations. The government has instructed Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) to not perform any “immigration status checks” on anyone who is seeking to be vaccinated, as well as for any other coronavirus-related doctor visit. The temporary amnesty comes amid a massive effort to vaccinate the population of Britain in order to develop herd immunity to the Chinese coronavirus. On Sunday, a government spokesman confirmed the free pass for illegal migrants, telling the Daily Mail: “Coronavirus vaccines will be offered to everyone living in the UK free of charge, regardless of immigration status.” A Whitehall source told the newspaper: “The moral in this is that everyone needs to get the jab, for everyone’s safety.” Commenting on the revelation, Dr Ben Greening, of Migration Watch UK, told Breitbart...

by Tyler Arnold  The Virginia Senate and House of Delegates passed their own versions of legislation that would guarantee in-state tuition for illegal immigrants residing in the state this week. Under both bills, a person would be allowed to receive in-state tuition for public colleges and universities as long as the person meets all other necessary criteria, regardless of whether the person is residing in the country legally. The House version of the bill will be sent to the Senate and the Senate version to the House. Both bills received substantial support from Democrats and opposition from Republicans within their respective chambers. House Bill 2132, sponsored by Del. Alfonso Lopez, D-Arlington, passed the House 58-42 and Senate Bill 1387, sponsored by Sen. Jennifer Boysko, D-Herndon, passed the Senate 21-18. The legislation would have an effective date of August 2022. According to a fiscal analysis of...
Senate Democrats on Thursday night indicated they supported sending direct payments to undocumented immigrants as the chamber waded through a lengthy process necessary to advance budget reconciliation measures. During what has become known as a vote-a-rama, which follows debate on a budget resolution measure, senators can bring forward germane, but nonbinding, amendments that must be disposed of before the majority party can move forward with their resolution. The amendments do not alter underlying legislation but can instead serve as a litmus test gauging for support of certain policies. A minority party may also use the vote-a-rama to force on the record votes on hot-button issues they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get the chamber floor, which they can later wield as political weapons in coming campaign cycles. Pennsylvania Democrats have proposed a bill that would grant drivers’ licenses to undocumented immigrants. "In today’s fast paced world, a driver’s license is essential to earn a living, travel safely, and live a dignified existence," its sponsors said late last month before introducing it. House Bill 279 would amend state law to allow "individuals without a Social Security number" to obtain licenses and learner permits. "Unfortunately, countless undocumented persons are unable to apply for a driver’s license in Pennsylvania because they do not have the required Social Security Number," the bill’s sponsors wrote in a memo on their proposal. Senate Republicans will force a number of votes on the floor Thursday to get Democrats on the record regarding a number of controversial issues such as giving relief checks to illegal immigrants and raising taxes on small businesses. The Senate is planning to pass a budget resolution by Friday which would give Democrats the ability to bypass the 60-vote filibuster for their coronavirus relief package, however, Republicans plan on forcing votes on issues that Democrats might not want to put their names next to which could keep Senators on the floor until late into the night. The “vote-a-rama” has not occurred in over three years, where a vote can be forced on anything, The Hill reported. “We’ll be getting senators on the record about whether taxpayers should fund checks for illegal immigrants; whether Democrats should raise taxes on small businesses in the midst of this historic crisis; and whether generous...
Senate Republicans are set to force Democrats to cast votes on a variety of potentially uncomfortable topics in the coming days, taking advantage of the rules of the budget reconciliation process Democrats are using to advance President Biden's coronavirus stimulus plan while getting around a filibuster.  Debate on the budget resolution, which started Wednesday, will continue in the Senate on Thursday. After that time expires -- Senate Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D. predicted that will happen shortly after lunch -- a process called a vote-a-rama begins.  During that time, any senator is entitled to file an amendment to the resolution, which could result in dozens of votes on various provisions going late into the night and even early into Friday morning. Republicans strongly oppose the fact that Democrats are using reconciliation to advance the coronavirus stimulus and therefore plan to use the vote-a-rama as a way to punish Democrats, extracting a pound...
Former Acting Homeland Security Deputy Secretary, Ken Cuccinelli slammed President Joe Biden’s recent executive orders and immigration policies on Tuesday, calling the administration's moves "foolishness" intended to "throw open the gates to illegals". While speaking on "The Faulkner Focus", Cuccinelli said that the Biden administration’s policies, which are created with the idea of being fair, safe and orderly, actually have the opposite effect, putting a strain on foreign countries and an already understaffed U.S. immigration system. CUCCINELLI: CARAVAN HEADING TO US-MEXICO BORDER ACTING AS 'HUMAN PETRI DISH' When pressed by Harris Faulkner about accusations from a whistleblower, alleging that Cuccinelli committed an abuse of power by making last-minute deals with ICE agents to tie the hands of Biden’s administration, he said that his moves give removal officers a "say" in immigration policy in order to "keep America safe." The former deputy secretary also noted that there were an "enormous" number of issues left over...
House Democrats want the next round of coronavirus aid to include citizenship for 5 million illegal immigrants who are considered to be among the pandemic’s “essential” workforce. A group of 100 House Democrats sent their leadership a request to include the language in a budget resolution that would pave the way for the Senate to use a tactic called reconciliation to pass the bill with only 51 votes instead of the usual 60 votes. The letter was delivered to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, and Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth, a Kentucky Democrat. In the letter, the lawmakers called for a pathway to citizenship for “essential immigrant workers and their families,” arguing that “it is vital that we include protections for immigrant workers to secure the health of our nation and lay the foundation for a robust and dynamic economic recovery.” The request comes as House and...
A coalition of Republican lawmakers this week introduced legislation that would block funding to sanctuary states that give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants -- the latest indicator of a significant gap between Republicans and the Biden administration on illegal immigration. Sens. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Joni Ernest, R-Iowa, Steve Sained, R-Mont., Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., and Mike Braun, R-Ind. "This country is governed by the rule of law. We should...
When we think of illegal immigration and its impact on America, opinions are sharply divided. The images invoked are “kids in cages,” large caravans, border rescues, and wild border chases between law enforcement and illegal immigrant smugglers. The U.S. southern border is just a waypoint for migrants along a much larger journey. One that usually ends far from the deserts of Arizona, the brush country in Texas, or the beaches and mountains near San Diego. According to the Pew Research Center, most of the undocumented immigrants within the United States live in just 20 major metropolitan areas. Ranking number one is the New York metro area which is home to 1.1 million illegal immigrants. Ranking number two is the Los Angeles metro area — home to an estimated 925,000 illegal aliens. There is no reason to believe that future illegal immigration patterns will trend away from these select metropolitan areas...
AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Representative Jeff Cason of House District 92 has announced his intent to file the End In-State Tuition for Illegals Act. This bill would stop the current practice of using tax-dollars to finance the higher education of illegal immigrants in Texas. Cason was joined by his fellow freshman colleague, freshman state Rep. Bryan Slaton, R-Royse City, who announced his intent to joint-author the legislation. “Texans’ tax dollars should not be used to reward and encourage illegal immigration to our state and nation. As Texas taxpayers are seeing their property taxes rise, they are rightfully even more frustrated to find out that the Texas legislature has seen fit to give handouts to illegal immigrants. This must end now,” Representative Cason said. An identical version of this bill was filed in the 86th legislature by Rep. Kyle Biedermann, R-Fredericksburg. It was referred to the Higher Education committee, chaired then...
Dozens of House lawmakers, led by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), are calling for future coronavirus relief measures to include recurring stimulus payments that extend to those who have Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN), which includes illegal immigrants. In a Thursday letter to President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the lawmakers said they are “appreciative” of the administration’s work to ensure that Americans receive another “survival” check as soon as possible. However, they believe that officials must take “additional unprecedented action” in the form of recurring cash payments in future economic relief plans. Such would “provide a longterm lifeline to struggling Americans for the duration of this deadly pandemic,” they wrote, citing “worsening systemic inequities.” They wrote: Both the CARES Act and the recently enacted relief package included a round of direct cash payments which provided critical relief to those who needed it most. Data show the CARES Act payments...
"Squad" member Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., and Rep. Jesús Chuy Garcia, D-Ill., hosted a Facebook live video conference on Tuesday in support of their vision to transform the U.S. immigration system by expanding protections for noncitizens. The pair reintroduced legislation known as the "New Way Forward Act" during the event, where Japayal said it is not enough to simply reverse the "hateful" immigration policies of Donald Trump’s administration. "We have to deliver on a real, humane reform of our immigration system," Jayapal said. "America’s racist, xenophobic … immigration system has been broken for decades." A House Democrat put forward legislation to strike the terms "illegal alien" and "alien" from U.S. law, an initiative that is also a part of the Biden administration's immigration reform efforts. Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro on Monday proposed the Correcting Hurtful and Alienating Names in Government Expression (CHANGE) Act to prohibit the federal government from using "alien" when referencing a person who is not a U.S. citizen or immigrant because it is "derogatory." The term would be replaced with "foreign national," and in the case that someone who is not illegally residing in the United States or has recently crossed the border without permission, he or she would be referred to as an "undocumented foreign national." Castro said his bill is similar to Biden's proposed U.S. Citizenship Act, which calls for "alien" to be changed to "noncitizen." Both bills get at the underlying issue of how people who do not...
Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio sent a letter to acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary David Pekoske on Friday demanding immediate clarification on the Biden administration’s 100-day deportation freeze. Biden plans to send a package to Congress which would give around 11 million illegal immigrants who are in the country a pathway to citizenship, according to the Los Angeles Times. The plan would make it so that illegal immigrants would become eligible for legal permanent residence after five years and give them U.S. citizenship after another three years. “I am concerned that such directives will prevent the removal of illegal immigrants with existing removal orders, including those with serious criminal records and convicted of violent crimes such as rape, sexual assault, and other aggravated felonies,” Rubio wrote in the letter. “It is deeply troubling that one of the first actions taken by the Biden Administration could undermine the safety...

The late labor leader Cesar Chavez, whose bust sits behind President Biden’s desk, was vehemently opposed to the immigration policies that the president has promised to enact. The bust of Chavez was noticeably present behind Biden on Wednesday as he signed executive orders on immigration, overturning former President Donald Trump’s policies and benefiting people in the United States illegally and those trying to enter illegally. Biden was immediately questioned about the Chavez bust on social media, with many wondering why someone who opposed Biden’s stance on immigration would have such a prominent place in the Oval Office. “Note the bust of Cesar Chavez behind Biden as he signed executive orders,” conservative radio host Larry Elder tweeted. “Is Biden aware that Chavez, born in USA, HATED #illegalimmigration because it depressed wages — and that Chavez worked with the feds to stop it?” Note the bust of Cesar Chavez...
The unity President Biden outlined in his inaugural address Wednesday is actually a vision of America "united behind lawlessness," Laura Ingraham told viewers Thursday. "In an executive order Biden thought was so important he had to issue it on day one, the administration purports to have the authority to halt all deportations in the U.S., even those that have been fully adjudicated," explained "The Ingraham Angle" host. "This is both profoundly dangerous and profoundly revealing," she added. "Dangerous for all the obvious reasons, Biden's move will cause an explosion in violent crime and COVID. Tens of thousands of migrant criminals and traffickers are already rushing the border right now. They clearly got the amnesty memo." When Ingraham asked why Biden would sign such an order, she answered her own question.  "In part, he's doing it to satisfy his party's radical open-border caucus. AOC and the gang are eager to replace native-born Americans and lawful immigrants with foreigners who came here illegally," she said. "This, they hope, will hasten the cleansing of the country which they...
President Joe Biden and top Democrats in Congress have said in the past they want security on the U.S. border but also plan on giving amnesty to over ten million illegal immigrants, while only adding minimal border security measures. Biden plans to send a package to Congress which would give around 11 million illegal immigrants who are in the country a pathway to citizenship, according to the LA Times. The plan would make it so illegal immigrants would become eligible for legal permanent residence after five years and give them U.S. citizenship after another three years. Meanwhile, an estimated 9,000 Honduran migrants are fleeing conditions in their home country and headed to the U.S. There were around 2,000 members of a migrant caravan who were able to make it past Guatemalan authorities Friday. The Mexican authorities have deployed troops to stop the arrival of the caravan on its border. Biden,...
By Catherine E. Shoichet | CNN It’s just one small part of the sweeping immigration overhaul President Biden is pushing. But the symbolic significance is huge. Biden’s proposed bill, if passed, would remove the word “alien” from US immigration laws, replacing it with the term “noncitizen.” It’s a deliberate step intended to recognize America as “a nation of immigrants,” according to a summary of the bill released by the new administration. The term “illegal alien,” long decried as a dehumanizing slur by immigrant rights advocates, became even more of a lightning rod during the Trump era — with some top federal officials encouraging its use and several states and local governments taking up measures to ban it. “The language change on the first day of this administration, with Kamala Harris the daughter of immigrants, to me it’s not just symbolic…it’s foundational,” says Jose Antonio Vargas, an undocumented immigrant whose organization,...
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said during a press conference Thursday that President Joe Biden is more interested in helping illegal immigrants than helping American citizens. McCarthy said he was disappointed “to see within hours of assuming office, the new administration is more interested in helping illegal immigrants than helping our own citizens.” Biden is currently working on pushing a bill that would provide amnesty for more than 11 million illegal immigrants. The plan would reportedly provide amnesty for illegal immigrants who arrived before January 1, 2021. McCarthy’s statement follows as he told Breitbart News’s Matthew Boyle that Biden is preparing to provide amnesty for millions of Americans while millions of Americans remain out of work due to the coronavirus. McCarthy said: The coronavirus and government-imposed lockdowns have left millions of Americans unemployed and small businesses shut down. Our immediate national priority must be to help Americans get back...
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said in a statement Wednesday that President Joe Biden’s move to enact amnesty would protect illegal immigrants at the “expense” of “American jobs and workers.” “It is deeply troubling that most of Joe Biden’s first acts as president were to protect illegal immigrants and encourage illegal immigration at the expense of American jobs and workers,” Cruz said after Biden announced plans to pass legislation that would provide amnesty for illegal immigrants that arrived before January 1, 2021. “Not only has he chosen to halt construction of a wall on America’s southern border and to continue [former President] Barack Obama’s illegal executive amnesty by preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, but he is promoting open-borders legislation that would gift citizenship to over 11 million illegal immigrants, roll back immigration enforcement, and promote and increase foreign labor at a time when many Americans desperately need work.”...
REPUBLICAN lawmakers have accused Joe Biden of making "far-left moves" after the President canceled the Keystone XL pipeline project and ordered a 100-day halt to some deportations. The Democrat signed off a raft of executive orders, addressing a number of different issues, from Covid-19 to security, as he began to roll back the previous polices of the Trump Administration. * Read our US politics live blog for the very latest news and updates on Joe Biden and Donald Trump... 10Joe Biden signed a raft of executive orders following his inauguration as he began to reverse Trump's legacyCredit: Reuters 10Joe Biden formally revoked permits for the Keystone XL pipeline project that were not in the country's 'national interest'Credit: Getty Images - Getty Biden formally announced that he was revoking a key permit for the Keystone XL pipeline project and ordered a pause to some deportations of undocumented migrants. President Biden’s immigration bill would change "alien" to "noncitizen" in U.S. law -- the latest move in the fight over language related to immigration and immigrants. Biden’s administration is unveiling the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, which would include a number of radical measures such as an eight-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants and immediate green cards for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients. BIDEN ADMINISTRATION IMPOSES 100-DAY 'PAUSE' ON DEPORTATIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS  While the text of the bill has not yet been released, a fact sheet put out by the Biden transition team before the inauguration said that the bill would remove the word "alien" from immigration laws and replace it with "noncitizen." The fact sheet said the move "recognizes America as a nation of immigrants."  Immigration activists and lawmakers have long battled over language related to immigration. Many now refer not...

The Biden administration on Wednesday issued a 100-day "pause" on deportations of illegal immigrants -- a dramatic move that caps a slew of immigration-related moves on President Biden’s first day in office. Acting Department Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske signed a memorandum to review immigration enforcement policies. Part of that includes a 100-day pause, beginning Friday, of "certain noncitizens ordered deported." BIDEN IMMIGRATION BILL WOULD PUT MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ON 8-YEAR FAST-TRACK TO CITIZENSHIP "The pause will allow DHS to ensure that its resources are dedicated to responding to the most pressing challenges that the United States faces, including immediate operational challenges at the southwest border in the midst of the most serious global public health crisis in a century," DHS said in a statement. Biden had promised to implement a 100-day moratorium during the 2020 campaign, and the order from DHS fulfills that promise. It would apply to...
Nikki Haley on Tuesday said that President-elect Joe Biden’s plan to give a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants would "undermine the rule of law" while also failing to address problems with the asylum system -- a sign of likely Republican opposition to the proposal. "Biden will unveil a bill on Day 1 to give citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants," the former U.N. ambassador said. "His proposal will undermine the rule of law, even as it fails to secure the U.S. border or address our badly broken asylum system." Vice President-elect Kamala Harris told Univision last week that the immigration bill would be "first order of business" and will be about "creating a pathway for people to earn citizenship." She said that pathway would be eight years long. The Washington Post reported Monday that the bill would put illegal immigrants into protected status and a five-year pathway...
A radical immigration overhaul to be proposed this week by President-elect Joe Biden would include a path to citizenship that could see millions of illegal immigrants become U.S. citizens in just eight years. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris told Univision last week that the immigration bill would be "first order of business" and will be about "creating a pathway for people to earn citizenship." She said that pathway would be eight years long. BIDEN CONFRONTED WITH MIGRANT CARAVAN CHALLENGE AS HE TAKES OFFICE, GOP BLAMES CAMPAIGN RHETORIC  The Washington Post reported Monday that the bill, to be unveiled on Inauguration Day Wednesday, would put illegal immigrants into protected status and a five-year pathway to a green card. If they meet certain conditions, such as payment of taxes and a background check, they could then be put on a three-year pathway to citizenship. Some estimates put the population of illegal immigrants at around 12 million as...
President-elect Joe Biden will propose an 8-year path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S., the Associated Press reported Tuesday. Biden reportedly plans to unveil the legislation on his first day in office. The plan could represent Biden’s first kept campaign promise, as he vowed several times on the campaign trail to introduce a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants within his first 100 days in office. Under the plan, all illegal immigrants who began living in the U.S. by January 1, 2021 will have a 5-year path to temporary legal status, so long as they pay taxes and pass a background check, the AP reported. Following an additional three years, they would be able to apply for U.S. citizenship. YUMA, AZ – MARCH 16: Men run after crossing illegally into the U.S. from Mexico on March 16, 2006 at...

President-elect Joe Biden plans to immediately put forward legislation offering a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants. Four people who have been briefed on the plan say Biden plans to announce the legislation on his first day in office, according to the Associated Press. “This really does represent a historic shift from Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda that recognizes that all of the undocumented immigrants that are currently in the United States should be placed on a path to citizenship,” Marielena Hincapie, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center, said about the plan, which she was briefed on. Biden’s incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, confirmed Saturday that Biden would send an immigration bill to Congress “on his first day in office” but did not elaborate on what was in the plan. Biden is also expected to sign a variety of executive orders on his first day in office,...
U.S. Census Bureau statisticians are under pressure from Trump appointees to rush a headcount on illegal immigrants in the U.S. by Jan. 15, according to a memorandum from the Office of the Inspector General. The Jan. 12 memo refers to multiple whistleblowers at the Census Bureau who expressed concern with the directive, claiming it to be unrealistic since insufficient time has been given to conduct data quality checks. The data itself is questionable and needs further investigation before being published as a significant portion is compiled by outside sources, OIG said in the memo. Inspector General Peggy Gustafson addressed the memo to U.S. Census Bureau Director Scott Dillingham alleging the “driving forces” behind the report are two Trump political appointees in top posts at the Bureau, Nathaniel Cogley and Benjamin Overholt. Cogley and Overhold are set to relinquish their posts at the Bureau in the coming days, raising questions about...
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., dubbed Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts "racist" after he said that undocumented workers at meatpacking plants would not be included in his state’s vaccine distribution plan.  "Imagine being so racist that you go out of your way to ensure that the people who prepare *your* food are unvaccinated," the "Squad" leader wrote on Twitter in response to a clip from Ricketts’ press conference.  "Illegal immigrants are not permitted to work in those facilities, so I don't think that will be a problem," Ricketts said Monday.  NYC CORONAVIRUS VACCINE LAGGING DESPITE CUOMO THREATS  "Again, you’re supposed to be a legal resident of the country to be able to be working in those plants so I do not expect that illegal immigrants will be part of the vaccine with that program," the Republican two-term chief executive of the state added.  Meatpacking workers are slated to receive the vaccine in...
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced in its end-of-year report that the illegal immigrants it arrested in Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 had an average of four criminal convictions or pending criminal charges each – highlighting the work the agency does in cracking down on criminal illegal immigrants. According to ICE’s figures, it conducted 103,603 administrative arrests in FY 2020, 90% of which had criminal convictions or pending criminal charges when they were arrested. In total, those immigrants had more than 374,000 convictions and charges combined – an average of four per person.  ICE: 4,000+ KNOWN OR SUSPECTED GANG MEMBERS, INCLUDING THOSE IN MS-13, DEPORTED IN FY2020 The criminal histories of those arrested included 1,800 homicide-related crimes, 1,600 kidnappings, 37,000 assaults and 10,000 sex crimes, according to ICE data. The numbers are the latest stark reminders of the criminals or suspected criminals who are caught, arrested and deported by ICE – which has come under heavy fire from...
As many as 300,000 illegal immigrants in Virginia will be able to get "driver privilege cards" that allow them to drive legally in the state beginning Saturday. “This change in Virginia law, authorized by the Virginia General Assembly, creates a driving credential for individuals who are non-U.S. citizens and cannot meet Virginia’s legal presence requirements, making them ineligible to receive a standard or REAL ID-compliant driver’s license in Virginia,” the DMV wrote in a statement released on Dec. 15. The cards will not allow the noncitizens to vote in state or federal elections, but will allow them the right to drive legally if they can prove income in the state or be claimed as a dependent on a recent tax return. In a statement released following the announcement, DMV Commissioner Richard Holcomb said the department was "pleased to offer this new credential giving thousands of tax-paying Virginians the opportunity...
Illegal immigrants will be able to apply for driver privilege cards in Virginia starting Jan. 1, 2020, according to the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles. Advocates of the permits claim the issue is in the interest of public safety, NBC Washington reported. Virginia’s General Assembly, which has a Democratic majority, passed the legislation allowing the cards in March. Non-citizens will be able to apply for driver privilege cards if they are a resident of Virginia; if they have reported income from Virginia sources in the last year or were claimed as a dependent; and if their driving privilege is not suspended or revoked in Virginia or elsewhere, according to the DMV.             by Kaylee Greenlee  Officials arrested 30% fewer individuals in 2020 than they did last year, in part because of COVID-19, Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Wednesday. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officials made 103,603 arrests this year and deported 185,884 individuals, according to ICE. Around 90% of the aliens who were arrested had criminal convictions or charges, and 92% of those deported had prior or pending criminal charges. “The men and women who represent ICE have risen to the challenges presented this fiscal year, including the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest,” Acting ICE Director Tony Pham said in a statement. “A prime example of our agility as an agency as a direct operational pivot to COVID-19 was our ability to return more than 1,000 U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who were stranded abroad as airports began to shut down because of the pandemic,” Pham added. ICE’s...
