According to ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish, the “mountain of content” includes more than 30,000 episodes of TV shows, 2,500 movies, and 1,000 sporting events available via streaming. That’s before the 36 original series planned to launch this year, including a new reality series every month. The two women's sentiments represent a dilemma facing showrunners as the pandemic drags into its second year and scripted series roll out new episodes. Did I make a rush to judgement on “WandaVison” being awful? As Alex Trebek’s final episodes of “Jeopardy!” roll out this week, a recent contestant from San Jose is recalling the late quiz-show host as a down-to-earth “man of the people” and a “consumate professional who was the very best at what he did.” Teja Chemudupati, a clinical researcher in the Stanford University School of Medicine, competed on the Dec. 17 edition of “Jeopardy!” The episode was taped Sept. 30 in Culver City. Trebek died just weeks later, on Nov. 8, following a public battle with pancreatic cancer. The beloved host taped shows as late as Oct. 27. Though Chemudupati’s “Jeopardy!” stint was brief — he lost to current champion Brayden Smith — he cherishes the opportunity to appear on the show before the passing of a TV icon. “The entire experience felt surreal,” says Chemudupati, 29. “… I’m so glad that I got to play with him.” Teja Chemudupati  Trebek’s final...

A lot of people have spent their coronavirus quarantines looking for projects, which has included marathoning classic TV series they always meant to get around to. But sometimes, you’re just looking for a short-term distraction instead of a commitment. Not every story needs to be War and Peace or Infinite Jest. Maybe you just want an approachable, immersive visual story with a lot going on, but without the sense of a massive 12-season commitment. With that in mind, here are some recommendations for entire, complete TV seasons that are short enough to get in and out of over the course of a day, or even an evening. Some of these seasons are only as long as an average movie, while some take a little more investment. But they’re all short enough to binge if you need a palate-cleanser between bigger projects. Melanie McFarland - Ashlie D. Stevens - Hanh Nguyen November 3, 2020 12:41AM (UTC) Television is an essential worker right now. At a time of amplified anxiety and uncertainty, it offers solace and escape, and as millions contend with the emotional toll of being separated from family and friends, or stuck with same, it can be a bulwark against loneliness. Admittedly these factors are the reason people knocked TV for decades, but in case you haven't noticed, the state of the world has been anything but normal for years, and now we're in a pandemic. Waking life shouldn't make a person yearn for a long bath in one of those "Westworld" tubs filled with viscous goo – something emollient, encompassing and sound-deadening sounds wonderful, doesn't it? – and yet, here we are. : That said, although yearning for "Westworld"-style hydrotherapy (minus the flesh-building needles) is normal, HBO can keep its accompanying dystopia thanks much. Whatever the outcome of the November 3rd presidential election, Jon Stewart will be there to give his take on the politics of the day thanks to a new deal the comedian has signed with Apple. The Hollywood Reporter reports Stewart will host a new series for Apple TV+ that will see him touch on current affairs with dedicated hour-long episodes that focus on a single topic. The new series doesn’t have a title yet, nor has Apple shared an exact release date — but it will reportedly premiere sometime next year. Moreover, in a departure from The Daily Show, new episodes won’t come out on a nightly or weekly schedule. Another unknown is how much content Stewart will produce for Apple. The company said it has a multi-year deal with the comedian, but didn’t mention how many episodes each season of the series will include.

Many TV shows get their characters dressed up in Halloween costumes for special episodes. NBC Many TV shows do Halloween-themed episodes that can be spooky and sometimes sweet. "Friends" gave us Chandler as a pink bunny and other funny costumes. "The Office" is filled with costume inspiration and it has multiple Halloween-centric episodes.  Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. What better way to get in the Halloween spirit than by re-watching the scariest, spookiest, and sometimes funniest episodes of your favorite shows? Read on for some of the best Halloween-themed episodes on TV.
In my humble opinion, Halloween episodes are the best episodes of television. Showrunners have permission to get weird, and many take advantage. I love them so much that I’ve often thought Netflix and other streaming services should have Halloween episode playlists, but most of them don’t offer that kind of curation. (Disney Plus is the only streaming service I’ve seen do anything like this.) So I figured I’d offer my own curated playlist of the best Halloween episodes you can stream right now. Sitcoms are generally the kings of this format, which is why this list skews heavily towards sitcoms. They usually have more freedom to set aside storylines for fun, gimmicky episodes. But there are a few dramas to make the list, as well as kids shows like Arthur. Some are spooky, some are just silly, and some are a bit of both. 30 Rock, “Stone Mountain” ...

Ashlie D. Stevens October 3, 2020 9:30PM (UTC) Food television has always been something of the visual equivalent of comfort food for me. I like getting a peek into other people's kitchens — whether they are cheerful Food Network sets or real home interiors. I love being introduced to food combinations that never would have occurred to me on my own.  And, when I'm not feeling particularly excited to spend time in my own kitchen, I have a selection of food TV that helps cut through the dread (and maybe — on a good day — even serve as a little inspiration?). The show was canceled at the Paramount Network in June, but Cops is once again back in production. The new season will not air on a network in the United States. The new season is being made as the show's producers fulfill their commitments to television networks overseas which have already bought the program.  Crews are once again working in Spokane County, Washington, where the show is regularly filmed according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount Networks has permanently cancelled Cops, the police reality show that has been on the air for 33 seasons, the network said in a statement on Tuesday 'We have a longstanding relationship with Cops and series producer Langley Productions, and we are pleased they have...
Episodes of three popular Adult Swim series—Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Boondocks, and The Shivering Truth—have been removed from streaming due to current “sensitivities,” The Daily Beast has learned exclusively. Eagle-eyed Redditors first noted the absence of Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s Season 6 episode “Shake Like Me” from the series’ page on HBO Max in June. In the 2009 episode, titled in homage to John Howard Griffin’s seminal race text Black Like Me, a Black man irradiated by toxic waste bites Shake, turning him “stereotypically” Black in manner and appearance. Also missing from the service was an infamous, incomplete Season 5 episode called “Boston,” an unreleased parody of the accidental 2007 bomb scare caused by the promotion of Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters. Fans were confused to discover “Shake Like Me” had suddenly reappeared on the streamer for several days in August, only to come down...

Hollywood has recently pulled or put disclaimers on TV episodes and movies featuring blackface and anti-Black tropes. But Black creators in Hollywood told Insider that this isn't enough. One person described it as a "limited gesture." Instead of asking what to do with this content, we need to ask why blackface is still appearing in TV shows, they said. Pulling episodes doesn't address the larger issue of systemic racism in Hollywood. There aren't enough BIPOC behind the camera and in positions of power. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.
