The Cleveland Browns host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6 of the 2020 NFL season in what amounts to one of the most meaningful matchups between the rivals in the past decade. Ben Roethlisberger and Baker Mayfield make for a marquee quarterback matchup, with Roethlisberger looking to shred a mediocre Cleveland defense while Mayfield faces a bigger challenge in a stout Steelers unit. While both teams enter the week with winning records, that won’t be the storyline NFL fans will be banging on the table to see. (CBS Pittsburgh) — The Pittsburgh Steelers remained undefeated in Week 5, pushing aside the Philadelphia Eagles to earn their fourth win of the season. But four wins isn’t enough to control an AFC North with two other four-win teams. The Baltimore Ravens also dispatched with the cellar-dwelling Cincinnati Bengals to get to 4-1. And the Cleveland Browns, who the Steelers will host in Week 6, fended off the Indianapolis Colts to stay tied with the Ravens. The AFC North continues to be the toughest division in football this season, with three early-season playoff contenders. And this week’s Browns-Steelers matchup should be yet more evidence of that. There’s no love lost between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers entering Week 6, which will highlight Myles Garrett’s return to the rivalry. On Nov. 14, 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns made history not for the play on the field, but for the fight that took place in garbage time. In the closing seconds of regulation, Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett ripped the helmet off Mason Rudolph and used the equipment to strike the quarterback in the head, resulting in a gridiron brawl. Garrett was suspended for the remainder of the season (six games), but is set to play in his first game against the Steelers since the incident. Leading up to the Week 6 matchup, running back Kareem Hunt said that this upcoming game is not just for Garrett, but the city of Cleveland. “Nobody likes having their season cut short,” Hunt said, via Mary Kay Cabot...

(KDKA)- Fresh off a 38-29 win over the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the Steelers sit atop the AFC North thanks to an unblemished 4-0 record. The defense has been strong and the offense has been rolling right along thanks to the return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. After missing last season with an elbow injury, it was uncertain what the team would get out of the 38-year-old QB this season. Thus far, it’s been a career-best completion percentage (69.9%), touchdown percentage (7%) and interception percentage (0.7%). Though he’s topped 300 yards just once, but he hasn’t had to get into shootouts because of the strength of the defense. By: KDKA-TV News Staff PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It’s been a big week for Steelers rookie wide receiver Chase Claypool. After putting up four touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Steelers’ 38-29 victory, Claypool was named the AFC Offensive Player Of The Week. His performance on Sunday was one that set a rookie record with four touchdowns and he also added seven catches for 110 yards. One of those four touchdowns was a two-yard score. Claypool’s breakout performance is just the third player in Steelers history to score 24 points in a game. The Steelers will be back in action on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field in an AFC North showdown.

The Browns are 4-1 for the first time in 26 years It’s been a long time since the Cleveland Browns were a real contender in the NFL. After topping the Indianapolis Colts 32-23, Cleveland improved to 4-1 on the season, the first time they have started this hot since 1994 when a young Bill Belichick was their head coach. This may be a true post-hype breakout for the Browns, who entered 2019 with heavy expectations after a big offseason makeover only to miss the postseason. New head coach Kevin Stefanski has brought a more focused attitude to the Browns, who made heavy investments in their offensive line over the winter that have paid big dividends. Stefanski has emphasized running the football, which Cleveland did to good effect on Sunday, running 33 times for 124 yards against a solid Colts’ defense. The Steelers have a strong track record of drafting wide receivers and developing them into stars. Chase Claypool is building on that tradition. Ben Roethlisberger’s healthy return to the field has powered the Steelers offense to an undefeated start to the season. The emergence of Chase Claypool as a star wide receiver might be the development that helps Pittsburgh remain in the company of elite NFL teams as the regular season progresses. The former Notre Dame star is already looking to be one of the biggest steals from the 2020 NFL Draft. The Steelers scooped him up with the No. 49 overall pick in Round 2. Early in his professional career, he looks like an offensive weapon that deserved to be selected much earlier. JJ Arcega-Whiteside made a huge blunder before halftime against the Steelers.  The Philadelphia Eagles are picking up wide receivers off the street, and they are still unwilling to give former second-rounder JJ Arcega-Whiteside some playing time. After his blunder against the Pittsburgh Steelers, we might finally have some clarity as to why Doug Pederson is willing to put converted college quarterbacks over him on the depth chart. Arcega-Whiteside has a nice 37-yard catch near the end of the first half of Philly’s game against Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, but his catch ended up as the last play of the first half. This is likely due to the fact Arcega-Whiteside took the time to celebrate rather than rushing the ball to the ref and trying to help the Eagles spike the ball. The Latest on Week 5 in the NFL (all times EDT): __ 12:35 p.m. The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers put their unbeaten records at stake in their respective games to headline the NFL’s early-afternoon action on Sunday. Kansas City (4-0) hosts the Las Vegas Raiders (2-2) while the Steelers (3-0) host the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles (1-2-1). This marks Pittsburgh’s first game since a 28-21 victory over the Houston Texans on Sept. 27. The Steelers unexpectedly had last weekend off because their scheduled game with Tennessee was postponed until Oct. 25 because of a COVID-19 outbreak on the Titans’ roster. In May 2014 Villanueva signed a free-agent contract with the Eagles, who sought to try the former West Point graduate at defensive end, even though it had been five years since he played college football, and, Villanueva mostly played on offense for the Army Black Knights, where he served as a wide receiver, tight end and left tackle. Naturally, with a contract that size he’s expected to be a key cog in Philadelphia’s defensive line for years to come. But much like his team (1-2-1), Hargrave’s Eagles career got off to a rocky start when he suffered a pectoral injury during training camp and missed the team’s regular season opener at Washington. Since then he’s had minimal impact, at least on paper. To date, he has played 99 defensive snaps, contributing half a sack, plus one assisted...

The Steelers-Titans Week 4 game scheduled for Sunday will not be played Monday or Tuesday. The NFL announced on Thursday morning that the matchup between the two current 3-0 AFC teams will be played at a later date because of concerns over Tennessee’s COVID-19 outbreak. The NFL was considering playing the game Monday early evening ahead of the Falcons-Packers game. Tuesday would have been the latest extension for Pittsburgh traveling to Nashville in Week 4. Instead, erring on the side of caution and safety, the NFL is simply pushing the Steelers-Titans to later in the season. Unfortunately, the teams don’t have the same bye in the middle of the 2020 season. The Titans have an open date in Week 7, but the Steelers are off only in Week 8. By: KDKA-TV News Staff NASHVILLE (KDKA) – The NFL has announced the Steelers week four matchup with the Titans will be rescheduled for “later this season.” The game was postponed after it was learned that players and staff on the Tennessee Titans had tested positive for coronavirus. A decision will be made “shortly” on the new date, according to a statement by the NFL.
JuJu Smith-Schuster wants to reunite with Sam Darnold, but could Darnold really be Ben Roethlisberger’s successor? It’s not all his fault, with Adam Gase as his head coach and injuries thinning an already thin set of talent around him,. But Sam Darnold hasn’t looked good so far this season, as the New York Jets are the most dismal-looking of the NFL’s 0-3 teams. Ben Roethlisberger has looked fine through three games, after missing most of last season with an elbow injury. But he is 38 years old, and he’s under contract only through next year. So the Pittsburgh Steelers need to think about a succession plan, probably next offseason.             by Teresa M. Walker  NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) — The Tennessee Titans suspended in-person activities through Friday after the NFL says three Titans players and five personnel tested positive for the coronavirus, becoming the first COVID-19 outbreak of the NFL season in Week 4. The outbreak threatened to jeopardize the Titans’ game this weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers and posed the first significant in-season test to the league’s coronavirus protocols. The NFL issued a statement Tuesday saying both the Titans and Minnesota Vikings suspended in-person activities Tuesday following the Titans’ test results. The Titans beat the Vikings 31-30 in Minneapolis last weekend. “Both clubs are working closely with the NFL and the NFLPA, including our infectious disease experts, to evaluate close contacts, perform additional testing and monitor developments,” the league said. The Titans returned eight positive COVID-19 test results — three players and five personnel — Tuesday morning leading into Week 4, according to a statement released by the NFL. The Titans played against the Vikings in Week 3, placing two different games in doubt for Week 4 of the NFL season. The Titans are scheduled to host the Steelers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, but reports indicate that the NFL is considering canceling that contest.  Through the first three weeks of the season, there hadn’t been any concerns about game cancellations due to COVID-19. The NFL has some built-in scheduling flexibility thanks to each team having a bye week, although the Titans and Steelers do not share a common bye week. Because moving schedules could influence more than just these teams, the NFL will likely make an official determination on the Titans-Steelers game sooner rather than later. Sporting News...
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-0, but are they actually a good team? At this point in an NFL season, the catch-phrases can get thick. You can only play the teams on your schedule, you are what your record says you are, they say. From early in the second quarter on during Sunday’s game, the Steelers outscored the Houston Texans 25-7 to escape with a 28-21 win and stay unbeaten. The reverse happened in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, as backup quarterback Jeff Driskel nearly led a comeback that fell short in a 26-21 win for Pittsburgh. PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Steelers’ home opener sure looked different with no audience inside Heinz Field. The big game usually brings thousands of fans and lots of money for surrounding businesses. North Shore businesses told KDKA they unsure what to expect during Sunday’s game but were pleasantly surprised by the rush of patrons. “I was expecting it to be kind of slow. But I talked to one of my tables. They said there’s a lot of people just coming in just to be around Pittsburgh just to be here for the first day,” said Michelle Ferina, Waitress. The owner of Foundry Tap and Table told KDKA reservations were booked. “They got a lot bigger than I thought they would be,” Andrew Stackiewicz, Co-Owner, Foundry. While he only saw about a third of the usual game-day rush, given the current cap on capacity, business was not bad....
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ben Roethlisberger threw for 311 yards with two touchdowns and an interception and the Pittsburgh Steelers fended off a spirited comeback by the Denver Broncos 26-21 on Sunday. The Steelers (2-0) knocked out Denver starting quarterback Drew Lock in the first quarter with a right shoulder injury. They didn’t secure the win until safety Terrell Edmunds sacked Broncos backup Jeff Driskel on fourth-and-2 with less than two minutes to go. Driskel completed 18 of 34 for 256 yards with two touchdowns and a pick, and absorbed a serious pounding at the hands of Pittsburgh’s defense. The Steelers had seven sacks in all — six of them on Driskel — and were credited with 19 quarterback hits. Still, Denver (0-2) had a chance when Driskel hit Noah Fant for a 22-yard gain that gave the Broncos a first down at the Pittsburgh 23. Three plays gained 8 yards....
JuJu Smith-Schuster is on a mission to redeem himself after a rough 2019 season Smith-Schuster’s sub-par 2019 campaign wasn’t all his fault, as the Steelers quarterback play was brutal at times. Duck Hodges and Mason Rudolph are not of the same quality as Ben Roethlisberger, and now that the veteran QB is back and (thus far) healthy, Smith-Schuster is using that improved ball placement to his advantage. JuJu’s in a contract year, which as all NFL players know is the time to ball out in hopes of earning a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal. Especially at Smith-Schuster’s age, the time is now to earn every cent of his value. While it’s just one play, $omething or $omeone has gotten to Smith-Schuster to tell him just that. This poor Broncos secondary is in the way of that goal. JuJu with the stiff arm… ???? @TeamJuJu #HereWeGo ????: #DENvsPIT on CBS????: NFL...
The Pittsburgh Steelers organization made the decision to put the name of Antwon Rose, an accused drive-by shooter, on their players helmets. That, according to Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick who says putting Rose’s name on the helmets was not the players call. “It was mostly made from people upstairs and everything else like that,” Fitzpatrick told ESPN. “Don’t know exactly who. Don’t know exactly how. But we did. We knew that we were going to have somebody on the back of our helmets, and it wasn’t exactly clear on what it was going to be. It was mostly made by everyone upstairs.” That organizational decision was not embraced by all. The return of veteran Ben Roethlisberger was a huge positive for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. The former Super Bowl winner suffered an elbow injury in the opening stages last year, which ruled him out for the rest of the season. He returned to the lineup on Monday and led the Steelers to a comfortable 26-16 win over the New York Giants. After a shaky start to the game, the Steelers slowly began to take control of things at the MetLife Stadium and Coach Mike Tomlin will be happy with the result. However, there were certain areas that the Steelers still need to work upon. Popular sports talk show host, Colin Cowherd, went on a lengthy rant on Tuesday and claimed that the Steelers would need to do more if they want to win another Super Bowl anytime soon. (KDKA) —  The Pittsburgh Steelers relied on a stout defense and a strong running game in their Week 1 win over the New York Giants. The defense allowed the usually dynamic Saquon Barkley a grand total of six yards on 15 carries. They also harassed Giants quarterback Daniel Jones into a pair of interceptions, which the Steelers turned into 10 points. On offense, backup running back Benny Snell racked up 113 yards on his 19 carries in place of James Conner. More importantly, Week 1 also marked quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s return to action. Big Ben, who last stepped under center in September 2019, missed most of the season with an elbow injury. He contributed three touchdowns and 229 yards on 21-32 passing in his return, not to mention invaluable veteran leadership. (CBS4) — The Denver Broncos didn’t look sharp in their season opener, dropping a 16-14 slug-fest to the Tennessee Titans. A last-second Stephen Gostkowski field goal gave the Titans the win. Though had the usually reliable kicker made his previous four kicks, the game may not have been so close. The Broncos had their own what-if scenario which could have turned the tide of the game. On fourth-and-goal in the second quarter, Vic Fangio went for it, only to have Drew Lock’s shovel pass to Jake Butt stuffed at the goal line. Of course, had the Broncos executed in the second half, this play may have been a moot point too. It wasn’t a pretty game, but a little more ball control would’ve helped Denver come out on top. Aside from a 75-yard drive, the Broncos picked up one first down in the second half. With four minutes remaining, they...

When the Browns, who drafted Garrett No. 1 overall in 2017, face the Bengals on Thursday, his infamous attack will almost certainly be recounted by TV broadcasters. After all, the scrap with Pittsburgh took place on “Thursday Night Football” last season. Garrett served a lengthy suspension following the Browns-Steelers brawl. (KDKA)- The Pittsburgh Steelers looked a little rusty in their Week 1 win over the New York Giants. But that’s to be expected after a canceled preseason, with a returning quarterback who missed last season’s final 14 games. The Steelers, and Ben Roethlisberger, ultimately did not disappoint. Pittsburgh put up 26 points and shut down running back Saquon Barkley. Big Ben threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns on 21-32 passing. The Steelers were led by defense and the running game. The defense made several big plays, including Cam Heyward’s interception of a deflected Daniel Jones pass to end a 19-play, 87-yard Giants drive. That’s because starting right tackle Zach Banner went down in the middle of the game and was carted off the field with a serious knee injury. New York Giants: 3 bold predictions against the Steelers By: Alexander Wilson September 13, 2020 ShareShareTweetThe New York Giants are preparing to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, which will be week one of the 2020 regular season. A revised training camp has imposed its challenges for the Giants and the rest of the NFL, as without a preseason, rookies will have a more tumultuous time adapting to the physicality and athleticism of the pros. Ultimately, we might see a low-quality week across the league, in terms of football performances, but teams should shake the rust off rather quickly. However, the Giants have more problems then the uncontrollables listed above. The Steelers represent a dominant defense with a quality offense, and it will take every last ounce of effort to overcome them in the regular-season opener. Three bold predictions for...
3 problems the New York Giants could face against the Steelers By: Alexander Wilson September 13, 2020 ShareShareTweetThe New York Giants start the 2020 regular season with a significant bump in the road. The Pittsburgh Steelers represent a dominant defense with a more than capable offense, composed of players like Minkah Fitzpatrick, TJ Watt, Bud Dupree, and Cameron Heyward. Overcoming a strong Pittsburgh team will be tumultuous for the Giants, but there are several ways they can attack their weaknesses. With All-Pro right guard David DeCastro set to miss the contest, the Giants must overwhelm the right portion of the Steelers’ offensive line. Getting to Ben Roethlisberger is the goal, and should give the Giants more opportunities on offense. Three significant issues the New York Giants could have against the Steelers: 1.) The Steelers have an elite pass rush To give...
