Chicago Cubs’ Javier Baez attributed his dismal 2020 season to not having access to film like he used to. Canha admitted lack of film access threw him off last season, too. “I didn’t have a whole lot of success at the...

President Joe Biden has addressed food and income insecurity as Americans continue to suffer during the pandemic. In just a few short days in office, President Joe Biden signed a wave of executive orders that help American workers and their families in a number of ways. Immediately after his inauguration on Jan. 20, Biden worked on adopting other legislation that will help workers during the pandemic as well. 1. He extended a freeze on repayments of student loans. On Jan. 20, Biden signed an executive order instructing the Department of Education to extend a freeze on federal student loan payments for at least another eight months.
President Biden jogged to greet supporters and reporters during his inaugural parade, a change of pace from when he carefully descended a series of U.S. Capitol stairs while reaching for his wife's hand before his swearing-in ceremony. His inaugural events were a showcase of a president eager to be perceived as strong even while being unable, at times, to mask his age. Biden, 78, veered off from his family on Wednesday afternoon in front of the White House after he got out of the presidential limousine, known as "the Beast," to walk the last part of his toned-down inaugural parade. He hustled over to the parade route's fencing to say hello, for instance, to Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser. But earlier, as he and first lady Jill Biden were making their way across the Capitol's marble crypt and down several flights of stairs onto the building's west front, the 46th...

The 46th President of the United States has promised that he would return the country from the first day of his mandate to the Paris climate agreement, which Donald Trump had slammed the door on in 2017. He also pledged to cancel the same day the emblematic migration decree of Donald Trump, which prohibits the entry into American territory to nationals of several countries, with a Muslim majority, and considered by his opponents as an Islamophobic measure. He plans to repeal these two presidential decrees with a simple signature, his future chief of staff, Ron Klain, said on Saturday. He will add to these two measures a series of decrees supposed to give, during the first ten days of his mandate, the necessary impetus to his presidency. A new report suggests that Friday Night SmackDown superstar Lars Sullivan might be getting his name significantly changed in the coming days or weeks. Citing this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ringside News reported on Friday that there were clear signs on last week’s episode of SmackDown that Sullivan’s moniker of “The Freak” might soon become his official ring name. Specifically, announcer Michael Cole referred to the 330-pounder as “The Freak” 22 times while only using his surname a handful of times. This, as noted, is what WWE typically does shortly before it officially changes a performer’s name. As further pointed out, WWE chairman Vince McMahon has been known to change the names of his wrestlers “for any reason he sees fit.” For instance, he has made several superstars drop their first or last names at certain points during their main roster stints. The outlet also wrote that...

Former NFL linebacker Marcus Smith II has opened up about a near-suicide attempt in 2018 when he almost drove off a cliff, his lifelong battle with depression, and his efforts to encourage men to face their mental health issues. Researchers in the US have confirmed the country's first case of a patient becoming reinfected with the novel coronavirus.   According to the report, a unnamed 25-year-old man, who lives in Washoe County, Nevada, tested positive in mid-April after showing signs of mild illness. After recovering, and testing negative twice, he started experiencing similar symptoms in late May. He tested positive again for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, but this time, his disease progressed to a severe case and he required hospitalization along with oxygen therapy.  The results, which were published in a pre-print study in August, were released by The Lancet Infectious Diseases on Monday. The team says that, although further research is needed, the findings suggest that contracting the virus does not guarantee total immunity and that everyone should strictly follow guidelines including masks, social distancing and hand-washing.   Researchers in the US have confirmed the country's...

At times, talented players are not the only thing a team requires. A lot more thought goes out into bringing new players into an established team. The perfect example of this is Dwight Howard being acquired by the Lakers in the 2011-12 season. His chemistry with the team just didn’t fit and the Lakers’ president blames their then head coach, Mike D’Antoni. Even when Dwight was just in high school, he became a prospect that nobody could miss out on. He was so highly skilled that he didn’t even need to go to college and directly made it to the 2004 NBA Draft. Orlando Magic grabbed Howard when they had the chance, and since then he has been making a significant impact. So much so, that he ended up carrying Magic to the NBA Finals and ended up with the Defensive Player of The Year Award. However, it was only...

A newly-inducted police dog in the U.K. has already set the bar high for the other dogs in the Dyfed-Powys Police K-9 unit. During his first day on the force, a German Shepherd named Max found a mother and her 1-year-old child, who had been missing for two days, according to the police department. Max was leading his human handler, Police Constable Peter Lloyd, when he discovered the missing mother and baby in a remote area of Powys, a preserved area of Wales. Lloyd then spotted the woman on the edge of a ravine, waving for help, Dyfed-Powys Police said in a press release. "The woman had not been seen or spoken to for two days, which was out of character, and her phone wasn't working, so naturally concern for her safety was high," Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones said in the release. Matt Dumba, who is from Canada and plays for the Minnesota Wild, knelt during "The Star-Spangled Banner" but stood during a rendition of “O, Canada” before a game on Saturday. He addressed criticisms he received for the move this week, saying he regrets not kneeling during the Canadian anthem. "There needs to be a lot of light that has to be shed on what is happening in Canada and the oppression First Nations have felt for hundreds of years," he said during a press call Sunday. "I have First Nations and Aboriginal families that have lived it, and I was disappointed looking back on it." Dumba added that he will no longer kneel in protest but will rather raise his hand in a fist for both...

Filip Chytil is one of several young Rangers who is getting thrown into the first postseason experience of his career. But he may just be an unexpected component to the equation that will better the Rangers’ chances heading into this abnormal 24-team playoff tournament, considering he’s been just that once already this season. The 20-year-old Chytil started the year in AHL Hartford after he was beaten out of a top-nine forward spot during training camp. He had played 75 games for the Rangers during the 2018-19 season, but the coaching staff wanted him to receive ample ice time and not bury him on the team’s fourth line this season. When Mika Zibanejad went down in late October with an upper-body injury and the Rangers had lost six of their past seven games, the team called up Chytil, along with young defenseman Ryan Lindgren. It was immediately apparent just how...
On a day where President Donald Trump tried to stick to his script in a return to coronavirus briefings, he still managed to mangle his messaging by lying about his mask use and wishing an accused sex trafficker well.  Appearing solo without  the burden of fact purveyors like doctors and experts, Trump initially read stiltedly from a paper in front of him, telling assembled reporters about the importance of masks and social distances following months of ignoring or deriding both practices.   “I have the mask right here, I carry it. And I will use it gladly, no problem with it,” Trump said. “And I've said that and I say, if you can, use the mask, when you can, use the mask, if you're close to each other, if you're in a group, I would put it on when I'm in a group.”   Photo evidence to the contrary appeared less than...

Former Vice President Joe Biden held his first press conference with reporters in nearly three months, but faced no questions about recent revelations about his interest in Michael Flynn during the presidential transition period in early 2017. Last week, attorneys for Flynn disclosed notes taken in early January 2017 that suggested that Biden brought up an obscure law called the Logan Act that the FBI cited to continue an investigation against Flynn. Last month, Senate Republicans released documents showing that Biden submitted a request for an intelligence report regarding Flynn on Jan. 12, 2017. Flynn’s lawyers released notes last week that Peter Strzok, a now-former FBI counterintelligence official, took during a Jan. 5, 2017 meeting that made reference to Biden. Biden was in the meeting with President Barack Obama, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-national security adviser Susan Rice, and other administration officials. Comey briefed the White House on a phone...

Liam Plunkett did not enjoy his first time on-field facing Shoaib Akhtar England’s fast bowler reveals that it was the first time he was facing Akhtar. Even though the two of them had been teammates earlier at Durham, the Pakistani speedster did not take it slow on the England player. Therefore, when they played at Lahore, it wasn’t exactly a positive experience. The match between England and Pakistan was Plunkett’s Test Cricket debut. Shoaib Akhtar walked up to him and threatened to kill him before smiling and walking away. Even though in all probability, Akhtar meant it to be banter, it was enough to make Plunkett be actually scared and intimidated. “In county cricket, I was first-change to Shoaib and Harmy. I was at slip for Harmy...
