The Jake Paul vs Ben Askren fight has stirred the boxing world ever since it got announced. The duo will fight each other out on April 17 in an 8-round, cruiserweight fight. With the announcement of this bout ‘Problem Child’ has seen on his challenges accepted and he will be keen on shedding the tag of having not fought or beaten a professional fighter. However, KSI believes Askren will overpower the YouTuber turned boxer, and it’ll be a dreadful outing for the young-gun. Speaking on Sidemen, he said, “I think Jake will lose. I think he’ll let the pressure get to him.”  MIAMI, FLORIDA – JANUARY 30: Jake Paul looks on after defeating AnEsonGib in a first round knockout during their fight at Meridian at Island Gardens on January 30, 2020 in Miami, Florida. You will tell me that Michael Lorensen is good at everything, but not the best at anything, you should not be wrong. Reds reliever Shoaib Othani wants to be a part of his team’s rotation when playing outfield and will be a backup hitter between starts. Realistic? Maybe because he’s a talented athlete, but can the Reds ’system give him all of this latitude? That’s another story. Yes, the loss of Trevor Boyer leaves a gap at the heart of the cycle in Cincinnati, but is Lorensen the solution? At best, he can take on the role of a fifth starter. His goals as a member of the spin are very clear, and he wants to play 180 innings. Lawrence did not want to force the hand of his manager David Bell. By looking at his role this way, he wants to give him more chances while at the same...

PARIS (AP) — While Kylian Mbappe was the talking point of the soccer world this week after his hat trick against Barcelona, the performance of his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Marco Verratti laid the foundations for his stellar performance. Verratti’s virtuoso midfield display at Camp Nou on Tuesday was lost somewhat amid the flood of compliments for the destructive Mbappe. Yet it highlighted just how crucial the injury-prone Verratti is in making PSG truly competitive. The 28-year-old Verratti has had four minor injuries this season and missed 14 matches. In previous campaigns, he was often sidelined by thigh, knee, calf and adductor injuries and since 2014 has had 23 separate injuries. None of them have been career-threatening, but the constant injury doubts have posed a considerable headache to PSG’s managers over the years, who have never been able to feel certain that the Italy midfielder would be available for key...

(CNN) — Lowering Covid-19 cases across the US isn’t only critical to helping prevent another surge fueled by variants — it also makes vaccines more likely to continue working effectively against mutations, one expert says. “The best thing we could possibly do to improve the chances that the vaccine will continue working as we’re hoping it will, is to reduce cases as much as possible without having those reductions occur as a result of vaccine-derived immunity,” Dr. Michael Mina, an epidemiologist and immunologist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, said during a Tuesday event. RELATED: Baltimore Lifts More COVID-19 Restrictions At Restaurants, Bars, Gyms And Venues The US on Tuesday reported more than 59,500 new Covid-19 cases — a far cry from the six-figure case totals it was reporting just a month ago. (CNN)On Tuesday, Arkansas Republican Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin abruptly ended his run to be the Natural State's next governor -- choosing instead to run for attorney general in the state next November. While Griffin didn't mention the name "Sarah Huckabee Sanders" in his announcement, the candidacy of former President Donald Trump's press secretary was, without any question, the reason Griffin bowed out of a contest he had been running in since last year. The reality Griffin bowed to on Monday is this: Sanders is close to unbeatable in a Republican primary in a state as strongly pro-Trump as Arkansas. (Trump won the state by almost 28 points in 2020.)And there's no question where Trump's loyalties lie. He officially endorsed Sanders' gubernatorial campaign late last month in a press release that touted her as a "warrior who will always fight for the people of Arkansas and do what is right, not what is...
Former GOP Rep. Barbara Comstock (VA) pushed back on the idea that Donald Trump represented the future of her party, calling out both his age and the erosion of his intra-party support in the wake of his role fomenting the Capitol insurrection. Speaking with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Friday night, the two-term Congresswoman made the case for moving on from the former president, who she said deserved conviction on the lone impeachment charge of inciting the insurrection. She also condemned other pro-Trump acolytes like the formerly QAnon-supporting Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. “What I focus on is, at the beginning of this week, the Freedom Caucus claimed they had 115 signatures to get rid of [House GOP Conference Chair] Liz Cheney,” Comstock noted. “In fact, she won resoundingly in a landslide with 70% support. I think the brave Republicans like Liz Cheney, like [Nebraska Sen.] Ben Sasse, like [Rep.] Adam Kinzinger standing up to the bullies,...

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The advisories and warnings may be allowed to expire on Tuesday morning, but that does not mean the snow is going to be done for today. The young Philadelphia Flyers netminder learned to not put the puck anywhere near Sidney Crosby. The first game of the 2021 NHL season will feature a contest between heated rivals as the Pittsburgh Penguins face off against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers did take an early 2-1 lead in the first period thanks to goals by James van Riemsdyk and Nolan Patrick, but it didn’t last long. In the second period, Flyers goaltender Carter Hart went to retrieve the puck from behind the net to try and pass it to a teammate down the ice. The problem was the puck was intercepted by Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby and put it in the empty net to tie the game. Victories by the two Democrats in Georgia's Senate runoff elections could mean a third stimulus check for Americans this spring, according to analysts. That would provide crucial financial support for households that this month are receiving $600 payments directed by the most recent relief bill — an effort that has been criticized by both Democrats and some Republicans as doing too little to help families that are struggling through the coronavirus pandemic.  CBS News projects that Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock have defeated incumbent Republican senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. The surprise outcome will result in a 50-50 split between Senate Democrats and Republicans, giving Vice President-elect Kamala Harris the tiebreaking vote. That will ease passage of another stimulus relief bill, which President-elect Joe Biden has previously said he supports, according to political and financial analysts. Another so-called Economic Impact Payment would come on the heels of the most recent relief...
Women who use marijuana may have more difficulty conceiving than non-consumers, according to a study by the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH, for its acronym in English) released this Monday. Published in the scientific journal Human Reproduction, the investigation did not analyze marijuana use among women’s partners, that could have influenced conception rates, the NIH added in a statement. Women who reported using products such as marijuana or hashish in the weeks leading up to pregnancy or whose urine tests were positive for cannabis had 40% less likely to conceive in each monthly cycle than non-users. The difference was greater when the percentage of those who became pregnant was analyzed: only 42% of those who said they had used cannabis were able to conceive versus 66% of non-consuming women. “Differences in reproductive hormones” “Female cannabis users also had differences in reproductive hormones involved in ovulation. These differences...
Injecting critically ill coronavirus patients with the blood of survivors does not boost their chances of getting better, a major British study has found. Scientists running the REMAP-CAP trial have stopped enrolling infected ICU patients after finding 'no evidence' convalescent plasma therapy boosted survival rates.  The decision was made after investigators analysed data from nearly 1,000 patients who received the treatment, which has been used to treat Ebola. It was hoped that antibodies – virus-fighting proteins – in recovered patients' blood would bolster the struggling immune system of vulnerable or elderly people who catch Covid and struggle to fight the infection naturally.  The researchers said the therapy may not work for the critically ill because their lung damage 'is too advanced for convalescent plasma to make a difference'. REMAP-CAP will continue to test the antibody-rich plasma on people with moderate Covid illness to see if it can halt the infection before...
(CBS Detroit) — Before this past Tuesday, a $2,000 stimulus check seemed highly unlikely. The results of the Georgia runoff election, which saw Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock win seats in the Senate, alter the political landscape. A $2,000 payment has now become a distinct possibility in the not-so-distant future. A second stimulus package was passed by Congress on December 21 and signed by President Trump on December 27. The $900 billion in economic relief extended Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). PUA aids unemployed freelance and gig workers. PEUC adds 13 weeks of unemployment benefits onto however many weeks a given state provides (generally around 26 weeks). The second package also includes $600 stimulus payments, as opposed to the $1,200 payments issued through the CARES Act last spring. The latest stimulus has already started arriving in people’s bank accounts and will continue to go...
What are the chances the New York Giants move on from Jason Garrett this offseason? By: Alexander Wilson January 7, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditAnemic would be a good way to describe the New York Giants’ offense in 2020. Averaging under 18 points per game, coordinator Jason Garrett displayed an inability to spur creativity and points production. Ultimately, second-year quarterback Daniel Jones took a step backward in multiple categories, but he did see his ball security improve gradually. After starting the season with his familiar fumbling problems, he cut down tremendously on the issue. However, over a very similar sample size to his rookie season, Jones threw just 11 touchdown passes compared to 24 in 2019. Under Pat Shurmur, he was a far more productive quarterback through the air, averaging an additional 22 yards per contest as well as being sacked seven fewer times. Garrett’s system...
Republican insiders fear President Trump’s brazen attempt to overturn the November election could haunt the party for years, jeopardizing otherwise excellent GOP prospects for winning control of Congress in 2022. Anxiety over Trump’s refusal to concede to President-elect Joe Biden, and plans to continue as leader of the GOP after leaving the White House, peaked Wednesday when thousands of his supporters stormed the United States Capitol after encouragement from the outgoing commander in chief. The violence delayed a joint session of Congress from completing votes to certify Biden’s Electoral College victory, Vice President Mike Pence, who was presiding, and lawmakers evacuated to secure locations. The siege of Capitol Hill unfolded less than 24 hours after Republicans lost control of the Senate, ceding the levers of power in Washington to the Democrats. The GOP suffered twin defeats in a pair of Senate runoff elections in Georgia amid Trump’s unfounded...

Both attended Heritage High School in Leesburg, Virginia. “He tucked the video away, deciding to post it publicly when the time was right,” the New York Times reported of why he didn't release the video when he first saw it last year. VIDEO2:4802:48Five stimulus benefits set to expire at the end of 2020Advisor Insight President Donald Trump is demanding lawmakers raise the second round of stimulus checks to $2,000 per person, from $600. "I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000, or $4,000 for a couple," Trump said in a video posted to Twitter Tuesday night. While the president did not outright threaten a veto of the $900 billion Covid relief bill, he did call it an unsuitable "disgrace." But if you are one of the people eligible for a stimulus check, don't get your hopes up. The legislation passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof majorities, meaning that Trump is powerless to raise direct payments from $600. Still, the top Democrats in Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, said they would support getting bigger checks to people....

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants had the NFC East lead and control of their playoff chances, and lost it with one bad game. It’s not a situation where the Giants (5-8) let it slip through their hands. New York was beaten badly by the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The 26-7 margin was not indicative of the one-sidedness of the game. Arizona was a better team all around and it made no difference that Daniel Jones was limited by an improving but not healthy hamstring injury in his right leg. It certainly prevented him from running, and led to many of the six sacks he sustained. There were eight overall that the Cardinals got, including a franchise-record five by Haason Reddick. The loss ended the Giants’ four-game winning streak and allowed streaking Washington (6-7) to take over first place in the tight division after its win...
Hong Kong (CNN)South Korea and Japan may have coronavirus numbers that would be the envy of much of Europe and the United States, but they aren't taking any chances as winter brings with it a dangerous spike in infections. Along with tighter restrictions, both east Asian countries have deployed their respective militaries to assist medical staff and help with contact tracing. In Japan, nurses from the Self-Defense Forces will assist local hospitals in Osaka and Hokkaido prefectures, as the country reported 1,518 new cases Monday -- bringing its total to 164,641, including more than 2,395 deaths. In South Korea, the military and police will help with contact tracing efforts, while testing centers will also extend their hours into the night and on weekends to encourage testing in the greater Seoul area. The country reported 594 cases Monday -- all but 28 of which were local transmissions -- bringing its total...
(KPIX)- With their last second win over the rival Rams this past weekend, the 49ers kept their playoff hopes alive. Despite all of the injuries and challenges this year has brought, the team remains just one game back of the final playoff spot in the NFC. However, there are some obstacles to overcome if they are to get back to the postseason. FiveThirtyEight’s projection model gives them a 28 percent chance while ESPN’s FPI currently lists their chances at 30.6 percent. They currently lose out on the tiebreaker to both Minnesota and Chicago due to a worse in-conference record (3-5) than either of those two teams. Combined with their loss to the Cardinals in Week 1, it means that they have some serious work to do in the final five weeks in order to overcome the current tiebreaker status and give themselves a shot at the final playoff spot. First,...
Republican strategists are signaling that the Georgia runoffs featuring Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue are even more important than the 2020 general election, especially with some in President Donald Trump’s camp — and often times the president himself — claiming the state’s election process is corrupt. The Daily Caller spoke to a number of Republican strategists and those familiar with Georgia elections, and while they didn’t definitively say Trump and his supporters’ claims were hurting, they certainly indicated they weren’t helping the GOP maintain its majority in the Senate. Loeffler is running against Democratic challenger Raphael Warnock, while Perdue faces a rematch against his own Democratic challenger, Jon Ossoff. Both elections are scheduled to be held on January 5, 2021. Republicans currently hold a two seat advantage in the Senate. New York Giants’ chances of winning the NFC East climbing rapidly By: Alexander Wilson November 23, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditSome have called the New York Giants the best 3–7 team in the NFL, and you wouldn’t be mistaken. The Giants have taken significant leaps forward in their development and progression as a team under new head coach Joe Judge. Plenty of factors are working against them, but they’ve managed to overcome challenges and prioritize fundamentals. Judge’s style and mentality fits the Giants perfectly, after having two head coaches that were unable to contain the player’s personalities and steer them in the proper direction. Judge offers a voice of discipline and a true leader who keeps everybody in line. With Marc Colombo, offensive line coach, being fired last week, the Giants took it in stride and moved forward quickly with an alternative. While firing...
Carmelo Anthony is going back to the Portland Trail Blazers. Anthony and the Trail Blazers agreed to a one-year deal worth the league minimum, ESPN reported Saturday. The NBA’s league minimum salary is set at about $1.62 million for the 2020-21 season. FRED VANVLEET GOING BACK TO RAPTORS, KEEPING YOUNG PLAYERS TOGETHER The veteran scorer signed with the Trail Blazers in the middle of the 2019-20 season after stints with the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder. There was speculation before re-signing with the Trail Blazers that he could go back to the New York Knicks but that ended Saturday night. The 36-year-old isn’t viewed as a starter anymore after playing two games with the Rockets in 2018-19. But he started 58 games with the Trail Blazers during the shortened 2019-20 season. He averaged an impressive 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in his first season there. MALIK BEASLEY...
A Redditor has shared some very sage advice for anyone going on a job interview: Be nice to everyone in the building. The Reddit user, u/sawta2112, shared the tip this week after a candidate at their job 'blew his interview in the first 5 minutes' because he was rude to the receptionist who greeted him. As it turns out, she wasn't really a receptionist at all, but the hiring manager — and ruled him out as soon as he refused to treat her with the same respect as anyone else. Don't be a jerk! A Reddit user shared how a candidate recently came in for a job interview and was rude to the woman he believed was the receptionist (stock image) According to the Redditor, the man who messed up his interview before it even began was 'dismissive to the receptionist' as soon as he walked in.  'She greeted him and...

Back then, he would go on bike rides late at night, but one evening, all of a sudden, he finally noticed the folks sleeping on the streets and had the simple thought most decent human beings might have: “Holy crap, look at these people. This is the city that I love, what can I do?” But he took another step. “I went home, cleaned up my closet and grabbed warm clothes,” Severson told CL. “Then I asked some homies for donations.” One of the first things he got was a fur coat from a friend’s mom. Over the years, Severson has received some other luxe items (comes with the territory when part of your...

World No.1 Novak Djokovic will begin his hunt for a record sixth title at the ATP World Tour Finals. Having won four titles this season, Djokovic secured the year-end No.1 ranking for the sixth time in his career, equaling Pete Sampras’ record. The Serbian last triumphed at the ATP Nitto Finals in 2015 and has subsequently finished the runner-up twice in 2016 and 2018. “Would back Novak Djokovic”: Tim Henman During a recent interview, former British No.1 Tim Henman backed Djokovic to win the season-ending championships. Henman contended that Djokovic’s stellar record at indoor tournaments sets him apart from everyone. Having won 13 indoor tournaments so far in his career, Djokovic also boasts an impressive 39-3 win-loss ratio this year. “He’s the No. 1 player in the world again and he’s won this tournament on I think five different occasions. ‘He’s got such a good record indoors and for all...
House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) lashed out at progressives on Sunday morning, blaming “defund the police” rhetoric from social justice activists for costing Democrats races in the Senate and House. While former Vice President Joe Biden was able to defeat President Donald Trump, Democrats underperformed in the congressional races, losing at least a half-dozen House seats they expected to gain and falling likely short of flipping the Senate. This resulted in a Democratic caucus conference call in which centrist members angrily chastised progressives for embracing far-left positions and not pushing back against allegations of socialism. During an appearance on NBC News’ Meet the Press, Clyburn echoed this sentiment, agreeing with host Chuck Todd that the “defund the police” movement was used by Republicans to batter Democrats, costing a number of seats— including in the high-profile South Carolina race between well-funded Democrat Jamie Harrison and incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham...
Chauncey DeVega November 2, 2020 12:00PM (UTC) The alarm sirens are blaring. The warning lights are flashing bright red. Donald Trump has repeatedly used the strategy of stochastic terrorism to encourage violence against Democrats, liberals, progressives and others he deems to be the "enemy." Some of his followers have enthusiastically followed these commands. Beginning with Trump's 2016 campaign and through to his presidency, the United States has experienced a large increase in hate crimes and other violence against nonwhite people, Jews, Muslims and others by Trump supporters and those who share their beliefs. : There have been repeated examples of Trump supporters threatening to kill prominent Democrats, including Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and others. With Election Day almost upon us, Trump has escalated his appeals to political violence. During the first debate with Joe Biden Trump told the Proud Boys, a right-wing group of political street thugs, to "stand...
Olivier Douliery/Getty Images Nevada Independent editor and poll forecaster Jon Ralston said that President Donald Trump’s chances to win Nevada are decreasing and “the math is just not there for Trump” to pull out a victory. The state, which has six electoral votes, was won by Hilary Clinton in 2016 by less than 3% and hasn’t picked a Republican presidential candidate since 2004. Trump has held rallies several times during the Covid-19 outbreak in Nevada, most recently on Oct. 19. In September, Trump baselessly predicted that Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) would rig the 2020 election in Nevada, saying, “He’ll cheat on the ballots. I have no doubt about it. This is the same man who’s in charge of the ballots.” On Sunday morning, Ralston noted the record-breaking early voting turnout in Nevada and how that could hurt Trump. “It already was very difficult for Trump,” Ralston wrote. “Now he has less...
President Donald Trump on Sunday bragged 'the radical left is going down' and touted his 'very good' poll numbers as he kicked off a two-day, seven state, 10 rally campaign swing in the final 24 hours of the presidential race. Trump started his day with a series of positive sounding tweets as he fights for a second term in the White House and polls show Democratic rival Joe Biden in the lead. 'Our numbers are looking VERY good all over. Sleepy Joe is already beginning to pull out of certain states. The Radical Left is going down!,' Trump wrote as new polls out Sunday morning showed Biden ahead in several critical battleground states. And the president had a special message for Michigan, which will be his first stop of the day, touting his economic record there after Barack Obama trashed him during campaign stops for Biden in Flint and Detroit on Saturday....
Vitoria-Castis, Spain: Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman cursed his side’s profit by dropping points for the fourth game in a row in La Liga after a 1-1 draw at the Alaves on Saturday. Barca fired 25 shots into the goal, but were only able to beat Alves’ brilliant goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco once, when Antoine Griezmann dropped the net early in the second half when Jota was sent off for the hosts. Barca went just in front of the break when Luis Rioja made a terrible error from keeper Neto following his mix with defender Gerard Pique. “I am concerned about our performance in the attack. We have no problem with our attitude or concentration. We have to be very efficient in front of the target,” Koman told reporters. “We also gifted Alves a goal, but you can’t miss them when you create multiple opportunities. If you create multiple opportunities and score...
President Donald Trump downplayed the Republican Party’s chances of retaining control of the Senate, calling it “a little bit more complex” than gaining control of the House. Trump told reporters on Friday, “We will have a tremendous stimulus package immediately after the election, and I think we’re going to take back the House.” “I think we’re going to do very well in the Senate,” he continued, calling it “a little more complex, frankly.” Trump went on to say, “I think we’re going to have a fantastic presidential election because nobody has done more than this administration in the first three-and-a-half years. There has never been a president or an administration that has done more than we have.” Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight, however, forecasts that the Democrats are “clearly favored” to maintain control of the House, with a 97 percent chance of holding that chamber. FiveThirtyEight also forecasts that Democrats are...

An asteroid named after the God of Chaos is gaining speed as it travels on a path towards Earth – and could strike our planet in 48 years, experts warn. Astronomers at the University of Hawai'i confirmed the massive asteroid Apophis has accelerated on its path due to non-uniform radiation, which acts like a tiny thruster. Prior to the discovery, the impact was said to impossible, but the new findings suggest the asteroid has a chance of crashing into Earth on April 12, 2068 – and it could be catastrophic. Apophis is more than 1,000 feet wide and an impact would be equivalent to 880 million tons of trinitrotoluene (TNT) exploding all at once.  Scroll down for video  An asteroid named after the God of Chaos is gaining as it travels on a path twoards Earth – and could strike our planet in 48 years. Bradley Cortright October 26, 2020 0 Comments Current state and national polls appear to show that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is headed for a victory in the November general election.  But, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is not ready to count President Donald Trump out. Speaking to reporters on Monday, he said he believes the president has “excellent prospects” of winning re-election. Last week, he said he thought Trump had about a 40% chance of winning the election.  .@MittRomney now thinks Trump has “excellent prospects” to win the election (a change from last week before the debate when he put his chances at “40 percent.”)Romney didn’t vote for Trump, and says he “probably won’t” reveal who he did cast a ballot for.— Julie Tsirkin (@JulieNBCNews) October 26, 2020 Romney, who has been a critic of Trump, said that he “did not vote for President Trump.” However, he did not reveal who he...
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — More rain is expected today with the best chance for rain coming before noon. Even as we move to the afternoon, I cannot rule out an isolated shower or two. The Jets found a new low for their embarrassing 2020 NFL season with head coach Adam Gase. In falling to 0-6 in Week 6 on Sunday, the Jets were shut out, 24-0, by Gase’s former team, the Dolphins. With the Giants and Falcons cracking goose eggs with their first wins of the season earlier in the day, the Jets are the only NFL team still in danger of a dubious distinction this season: Finishing 0-16. Since the NFL schedule expanded, only two teams, the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns, have failed to record a victory. The Jets’ current average margin of defeat is more than 18 points. This is the worst Jets team in 24 seasons. That 1996 version, in the second and final year under coach Rich Kotite, started 0-9 and finished 1-15, with only a win over the Cardinals in Week 9. In contrast, that team’s average margin of defeat was...
The flu vaccine protects you from seasonal influenza, not the coronavirus — but avoiding the flu is especially important this year. Health officials and medical groups are urging people to get either the flu shot or nasal spray, so that doctors and hospitals don’t face the extra strain of having to treat influenza in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Not to mention the confusion factor: The illnesses have such similar early symptoms that people who get the flu may mistakenly think they have COVID-19, said Dr. Gregory Poland, an infectious disease specialist at Mayo Clinic. Magic Johnson’s basketball analysis is unparalleled. OK, maybe if you’ve seen his Twitter account, you’d beg to differ on the matter of depth, but the Lakers legend knows a championship contender when he sees one. Johnson sees the Warriors, who expect to have Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green all healthy in 2021, as the Western Conference’s biggest threat to his Lakers, who just captured their first Larry O’Brien Trophy in a decade thanks to the all-world tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. “The Lakers still will be the team to beat,” Johnson opined Monday morning on ESPN’s First Take. “If Golden State is healthy — and I’m sure they’re gonna make a good move, I don’t know if they will keep that second pick or not — they will be the second team.” Johnson didn’t even slot the LA Clippers — supposedly the...
The Democrats are looking to win back the majority in the Senate, and Cook Political Report has upgraded their chances of doing so. Democrats currently only hold 45 Senate seats, although the two independent senators caucus with their party raising their total to 47. But the nonpartisan tracking and polling website believes, as of Tuesday, which marks three weeks before Election Day, that the Democrats will win a net total of anywhere from two to seven Senate seats. In particular, Cook Political Report changed its race descriptor for three Senate races, of all which are Republican incumbents running for reelection, and gave those senators a worse chance of keeping their seats. They changed the rating for Kelly Loeffler’s race, the senator from Georgia who was appointed to the seat by Gov. Brian Kemp following the resignation of Sen. Johnny Isakson, from “Lean Republican” to “Toss up.” The group...
Getty The Problem Solvers Caucus is calling for $450 per week in extra federal unemployment benefits as part of the next stimulus package. Millions of Americans could use another extension of COVID-19 unemployment checks. The original $600 was extended but only for six weeks. That extension has now expired. Will you get another extension of unemployment benefits? Will it be for $600 or less? Here’s the update as of October 10. On October 9, the White House offered to come up to $1.8 trillion for the overall cost of a second stimulus relief plan. However, on October 10, things moved in the wrong direction when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected the new White House offer. One reason she gave? The need she believes Americans have for another $600 extension in unemployment benefits. And that’s where it remains on October 10. Negotiations are stalled. Thus, it’s still...
Actress and activist Jane Fonda says the coronavirus pandemic is a huge opportunity for Democrats, calling the outbreak "God's gift to the left" because it could hurt President Donald Trump politically. Fonda — a surrogate for the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden — laughed after making the remark. What are the details?"We can stop fascism," Fonda can be seen saying on a video published by the Washington Free Beacon on Wednesday. "This is a crossroads, it's an existential crossroads, and we are people who can help determine which way humanity goes." "What a great gift! What a tremendous opportunity," the actress said with glee. "We're just so lucky. We have to use it, with every ounce of intelligence and courage and wherewithal we have." Fonda then paused before declaring, "I think COVID is God's gift to the left," and chuckling. She then admitted, "It's a terrible thing to...

(CNN)Vice President Mike Pence is set to square off with Sen. Kamala Harris at the vice presidential debate Wednesday in Salt Lake City just over one exceptionally long week since President Donald Trump faced former Vice President Joe Biden on the debate stage. In the days since, the White House and nation have been rocked by the President's positive coronavirus diagnosis, hospitalization and subsequent return to the White House. It's long been said that vice presidential debates are unlikely to significantly move the election needle, but with questions surrounding the health of both presidential candidates in sharper focus given the events of the past week, Wednesday night's debate will give voters a closer look at the person they are electing to be second in command and the solemn role they vow to uphold. "Both candidates right now have a lot of questions of health, which makes the VP debate this...
The home in Frederick where Chris Watts killed his pregnant wife, Shanann, in August 2018 before taking the lives of Celeste and Bella, their two young daughters, is currently being viewed by more people than ever before. But although the property, located at 2825 Saratoga Trail, spent well over a year for sale, it's now been taken off the market — and that's just as well, since a disturbing new movie about the tragedy creates even more doubts that anyone would ever want to live within its walls again. On September 30, Netflix launched American Murder: The Family Next Door, a documentary about the slayings that's assembled almost entirely of video or images shared online by Shanann or footage from the investigation into her disappearance, including body-camera clips that seem to capture every inch of the living space. The house is practically another character in a film that chillingly transforms...

After rebounding from back-to-back shutout losses with one of their best performances of the season on Sunday in Oakland, the Giants believed a 14-2 win over the first-place A’s was the start of a push to take control of the National League wild card race. The Giants had won 13 of their last 16 at Oracle Park and returned home Monday with a huge sense of optimism as they opened a four-game set against the Colorado Rockies. That sense, and nearly every good feeling about the Giants’ playoff chances, disappeared early as starting pitcher Johnny Cueto turned in one of his worst outings as a member of the organization in a 7-2 loss. Cueto didn’t have command of his pitches and the Giants’ offense didn’t trouble Rockies right-hander German Márquez in a disappointing series-opening defeat. The loss won’t crush the Giants’ playoff chances as they’ll wake up...
New York Mets: Jacob deGrom is ‘good to go’ and will take the ball on Monday By: Andres Chavez September 20, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditNew York Mets‘ ace Jacob deGrom received some great news this weekend, thinking about his chances of helping the team in its quest for a playoff spot and securing a third straight Cy Youn award in the National League. The right-hander, who left his last start after just two innings with some issues on his hamstring, will be able to take the ball on Monday in a crucial game for the New York Mets against the AL East leaders Tampa Bay Rays. If he was forced to miss time, deGrom’s chances of a third consecutive Cy Young would have virtually vanished. Thankfully, that will not be the case. The Mets will now have their ace for two more starts...

It’s only been four starts, but Deivi Garcia has made quite an impression on his Yankees teammates. Gary Sanchez called him “fearless.” Gerrit Cole said of Garcia, “I really like what I see.” And it’s easy to tell why. The 21-year-old won again in Tuesday’s romp over the Blue Jays thanks to an eruption from the offense — and seven more strong innings from the rookie right-hander. In 24 ⅔ innings, Garcia has the lowest WHIP of any Yankee starter, 0.973. His 3.28 ERA is only a tick above that of Cole and Masahiro Tanaka. His strikeout/walk ratio is just behind Tanaka. By those accounts, it’s possible Garcia could start a Game 3 for the Yankees in the playoffs — after Cole and Tanaka. Cole was unsure how Garcia’s inexperience might impact him in a potential playoff start, but the Yankees’ ace has seen only good things from his...
