Nearly a dozen people were displaced after a propane tank exploded in the basement of a Frederick County home on the 10500 block of Old Annapolis Road, between Mt. Less than two hours later, around 10 p.m., Prince George’s County firefighters were dispatched to the 16700 block of Queen Anne Road, just off Crain Highway, where they found a greenhouse in flames with several exploded propane tanks. Reuters March 2, 2021 0 Comments The United States must stick to a two-dose strategy for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, top U.S. infectious disease official Anthony Fauci told the Washington Post newspaper. Fauci said that delaying a second dose to inoculate more Americans creates risks. He warned that shifting to a single-dose strategy for the vaccines could leave people less protected, enable variants to spread and possibly boost skepticism among Americans already hesitant to get the shots. “There’s risks on either side,” Fauci was quoted as saying by the Washington Post in a report published late on Monday. “We’re telling people (two shots) is what you should do … and then we say, ‘Oops, we changed our mind’?” Fauci said. “I think that would be a messaging challenge, to say the least.” He added that he spoke with UK health officials on Monday who have opted to...
By Syed Raza Hassan KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) - A 19-year-old Pakistani student who shot to fame after her five-second video went viral on social media across the subcontinent, hopes numerous renditions of her monologue will translate into more dialogue between rival neighbours India and Pakistan. The short video shot by Dananeer Mobeen in the Nathaigali mountains of northern Pakistan and uploaded onto Instagram shows a group of youngsters enjoying themselves by a roadside. Swinging around the device she is filming on, Mobeen gestures behind her and says in Urdu, "This is our car, this is us, and this is our party taking place." Seemly innocuous, she deliberately mispronounces the English word "party" as "pawri" to poke fun at South Asians who adopt Western accents. It immediately struck a chord in both India and Pakistan, sparking top trending hashtags on social media, and garnering millions of views and hundreds of spin-offs....
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Australia’s World Cup qualifying match against Nepal on March 30 has been postponed, leaving only three games to be played in Asia this month as organizers consider central locations to finish the second round by mid-June. The Asian Football Confederation announced last month that all but four of the region’s remaining second-round qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup had been postponed to May and June. With AFC’s latest revision on Tuesday, it’s now down to three. Mongolia is set to play Tajikistan on March 25 in Group F before traveling to Tokyo to play Japan on March 30. Saudi Arabia is scheduled to host Palestine in Group D, also on March 30. The race is now on to finish the round before the June 15 deadline. Most countries have played five of their scheduled eight group games. The AFC said it has “opened the invitation”...

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Max Pacioretty scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Wild on Monday night. The Golden Knights erased a third-period, two-goal deficit to earn the victory in a matchup between the West Division’s top two teams. After Alex Tuch scored the tying goal with 42 seconds left in regulation, it was Pacioretty punching home the game-winner after Vegas captain Mark Stone fed him with his fifth primary assist of the game. Cody Glass and Nic Hague also scored for Vegas. Marc-Andre Fleury, making his ninth straight start, made 26 saves and improved to 10-3-0 after tying a season-high four goals allowed. NBA : The Philadelphia 76ers were able to recover quickly from what was their recent loss at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and they beat the Indiana Pacers 130-114 smoothly. The result ended up being made up in the garbage minutes, since the victory for the directed by Doc Rivers was much more forceful. Despite not having Tobias Harris, the team’s second leading scorer, the 76ers had one of their best offensive productions of the season. The match was completely broken in the second quarter. The locals closed that period 39 to 23, and went at halftime up on the scoreboard by 72 to 55. Finally, the 130 points scored by Philadelphia were the second highest score for the team so far this season. One of the keys to the game was the scoring difference between the second units of each team. While the 76ers found points with Shake...

There are gestures in politics that prevent voters from being able to continue to trust a party. Cs suffered a hecatomb in the previous general elections that took away Albert Rivera, a valuable politician who, however, failed to find the key and went from almost everything to nothing in a few months. Inés Arrimadas replaced him, another valuable policy that has not been successful either and that is paying the ups and downs of a formation that in its eagerness to recover the political center has become, on occasions, the useful fool of socialcommunism. And as a sample, a button: the Table of the Madrid Assembly has rejected this Monday with the votes of Citizens and PSOE a Proposal No of Law (PNL) presented by the Popular Parliamentary Group in which the Government of the Community of Madrid to request the dismissal of the second vice president of the central...
There are always those looking for a reason to dismiss and malign a woman, and side with the guy she’s accusing. In the case of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s latest accuser, Anna Ruch, she wasn’t his employee and they weren’t in a workplace. They met for the first time at a wedding, where she says that he put his hand on her lower back. When she used her own hand to remove it, he grabbed her face in both hands and said he wanted to kiss her. That’s a newsworthy story because the 33-year-old is the third decades-younger woman in a week to come out with an account of unwanted contact with Cuomo, and because her story pokes serious holes in the phony “apology” the 63-year-old governor had issued a day earlier, to try and talk around the detailed, documented account of his second accuser, 25-year-old Charlotte Bennett. “At...

DENVER (CBS4) – Colorado health officials have identified 822 people who were infected twice with COVID-19 during the pandemic. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment added the case data to the state’s dashboard on Monday. The second-infection cases were reported between Aug. 20 and Feb. 28 and involve people ranging in age from 1 to 101. For a case to be considered a second infection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requires two positive molecular amplification tests, such as a PCR test, separated by at least 90 days. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — NaLyssa Smith scored 23 points and No. 6 Baylor used a dominant third quarter to build a lead, then had to fight off a late Texas rally to earn a 64-57 victory Monday night that locked up sole possession of the Big 12 title for the Lady Bears. Getty Kemba Walker #8 of the Boston Celtics celebrates with Jaylen Brown #7 during the first quarter against the Denver Nuggets. The Boston Celtics are riding a two-game win streak for the first time in over a month. Yet, don’t let that distract you from the fact that the Cs own just a .500 record with only two games remaining until the All-Star break – not quite the championship-caliber showing many expect from Boston entering the season. While Kemba Walker has begun to look more and more like himself of late, many continue to question whether Boston’s current construction is capable of competing in the East. With a record-setting $28.5 million traded player exception at their disposal, the team could look to build around Walker, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum at the deadline. Or, as Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer propositioned, the team could package the former in a...

HONG KONG (AP) — A court hearing for 47 democracy activists charged under Hong Kong’s national security law was set to resume Tuesday after a marathon session that was adjourned well past midnight after one defendant appeared to collapse and was taken away in an ambulance. The court is weighing whether to grant bail to the activists, who were detained and charged Sunday over their involvement in an unofficial primary election last year that authorities say was part of a plot to paralyze Hong Kong’s government. The national security law, which China imposed on Hong Kong eight months ago in response to months of anti-government protests, makes it a crime to overthrow, seriously interfere in, disrupt or undermine Hong Kong’s government. The law, which also criminalizes acts that incite Hong Kong’s secession from China, collusion with foreign powers and terrorism, has largely silenced protest in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo "is no longer able to govern" the state and "should immediately resign from office," Assemblyman Mike Lawler told "America Reports" Monday. "That is why, together, he must resign immediately, and if he chooses not to, the legislature must impeach him." Lawler added that the harassment allegations made against Cuomo by former aides Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett reveal "predatory sexual behavior" by the Democrat. "And so I think what is clear is not only should the governor resign and he should resign immediately, but that there needs to be...

Savannah Rychcik March 1, 2021 0 Comments Two senators are urging the White House to “explore” deploying second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as first doses to provide protection to more Americans. “We encourage you to explore deploying existing second doses as first doses and rely on growing real-time inventory to cover future follow-on booster shots,” Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) wrote in a letter to Jeff Zients, the White House coronavirus coordinator, obtained by The Washington Post. They continued, “We are not advocating for solely a single-dose regimen. Rather, we believe deploying existing second doses to cover more first doses—coupled with using real-time inventory in the coming weeks to serve as boost doses—would be the most societally beneficial choice and mitigate severe illness, hospitalization, and death.” The senators pointed out data suggesting a single dose of the vaccine “offers effective protection...

A second former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo came forward with allegations of sexual harassment against the embattled Democrat, prompting the mainstream media to far more aggressively cover the scandal that previously received scant attention. Media Research Center news analyst Nicholas Fondacaro pondered whether the "dam [was] finally broken" when a Saturday New York Times report detailed ex-Cuomo administration executive assistant and health policy adviser Charlotte Bennett’s claim the governor once "asked her questions about her sex life, whether she was monogamous in her relationships and if she had ever had sex with older men." The bombshell accusations were covered by most mainstream outlets after claims by Cuomo’s previous accuser were largely ignored. Former administration aide Lindsey Boylan came forward on Wednesday with explosive claims against the governor, whose younger brother, Chris Cuomo, is CNN’s most-watched anchor. ROME — Pope Francis has warned of the possibility of a second great flood, like that of Noah, if humanity fails to address global warming. “God’s wrath is directed against injustice, against Satan,” the pope states in a book titled Of Vices and Virtues due for release Tuesday. “It is directed against evil, not that which derives from human weakness, but evil of Satanic inspiration: the corruption generated by Satan.” “God’s wrath is meant to bring justice, to ‘clean up,’” the pontiff declares in an advance excerpt of the book published by the Italian daily Corriere della Sera Sunday. “The Bible says that the flood is the result of God’s wrath,” Francis continues. “It is a figure of God’s wrath, who according to the Bible has seen too many bad things and decides to obliterate humanity.” “The biblical flood, according to experts, is a mythical tale,” the pope states, parenthetically...

SANTA CRUZ – Anti-mask protesters returned to the Trader Joe’s in downtown Santa Cruz on Sunday but did not gain access to the store this time. The group began at the corner of Laurel Street and Pacific Avenue in front of Asti, a restaurant that features outdoor dining booths on Pacific Avenue, south of downtown. Armed with picket signs, the group marched into the downtown sector. Signs the protesters were wielding made references to loving one’s neighbor, breathing air freely, and even stated, “Maskless Lives Matter.” One sign showed symbols of a circle-backslash over a swastika. The choice of symbolism on the signs is in line with National Maskless Day propaganda. Flyers around the city, which referred to the day as Freedom Day, urged people to walk “into a Nazi store without a mask and share the pictures and videos.” The group stopped again at Trader Joe’s in a return...

A team of international scientists has developed a laser that can generate 254 trillion random digits per second, more than a hundred times faster than computer-based random number generators (RNG). Though random number generation has been around for thousands of years, it is increasingly important in computing as it forms the basis of cryptography. With more devices online than ever before, the need for faster encryption that can keep out bad actors has become more crucial. In a sign of the prevailing need for RNGs in modern technology, Google showcased the apparent supremacy of its 53-qubit quantum computer using an RNG problem. That’s why the new system could be a game-changer: It can generate 250 terabytes of random bits per second. In fact, it was so fast that the team behind it struggled to record its output using a high-speed camera. According to the researchers, their system trumps physical...
I do sometimes wonder why it took so long. Why is it now, in 2021, that so many people are finally waking up to the reality of Andrew Cuomo? A year ago, he was elevated to the status of hero and myth, so absurdly lauded—the magazine covers, the self-declared Cuomosexuals, the Emmy, the sycophantic interviews conducted by his CNN host brother—that it could seem that there was little justice left in a world already so deranged. Cuomo, once America’s governor like Rudy Giuliani was once America’s mayor, seems to add new lines to his political obituary every day. There is the body count from coronavirus in New York, which maintains the country’s second-highest death toll. There are the nursing home bodies he refused to count, the first federal probe into how that information was hidden, the second federal probe into the nursing home tally, and the unhinged threats against a...

By Aaron Sheldrick TOKYO (Reuters) - Tepco, the operator of Japan's wrecked Fukushima atomic plant, said it had successfully removed spent uranium fuel from a damaged reactor building in a key step in its clean up of the site after a nuclear disaster a decade ago. Formally known as Tokyo Electric Power, Tepco said it had transferred around 170 tonnes of spent uranium fuel from high up in the building to a safer location -- the second successful operation of its kind and the first to be carried out by remote control, due to the high radiation in the reactor building. It comes as Japan prepares to mark the tenth anniversary of the March 11, 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters. It will provide Tepco with important experience and data for the much tougher and time consuming task of extracting melted reactor cores and debris in the coming decades. At...

New York Giants one of the likely Hard Knocks 2021 candidates By: Cay North February 28, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Giants have never appeared on HBO’s Hard Knocks, but it remains to be seen how long that will last. The organization has famously been opposed to appearing on the show, but meets the conditions this year to get selected whether they like it or not. The Giants no longer have a first year coach, they haven’t made the playoffs in the past two years, and they haven’t been on the show in the last 10 seasons. That makes them eligible even if the organization doesn’t quite want to show up on the show. On the other hand, the show is generally unpopular for the fans of the team showcased and Giants co-owner John Mara basically said in 2010 that the Giants...

Reddick pushed his No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet to second place in Sunday’s Dixie Vodka 400, forging past early contenders Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson in the closing laps but finishing just shy of race winner William Byron. His fourth top-five finish of his career was also his second runner-up finish, equaling his result last July as part of...
Warriors forward Draymond Green will not return to Sunday evening’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers after he exited with 4:15 remaining in the second quarter with a left ankle sprain. Green suffered the injury when he landed awkwardly after contesting a layup by Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Green tried to stay in the game, but appeared to be in pain and went to the locker room a few moments later. It’s unclear if this is a long-term concern for Green. The Warriors were trailing 73-44 at halftime when the decision was made that Green wouldn’t return. Green had six points on 3-for-5 shooting, one rebound and two assists in 13 minutes. Forward Juan Toscano-Anderson started at power forward in the second half. Green, who has missed five games with various lower-body injuries, is having his best stretch of the season. In his last 12 games, Green...

New York : Dependents of all ages could receive a stimulus check for $ 1,400, more than double what was given in the second. Photo: Thomas Cain / . The House of Representatives has already passed the bill that includes a third round of stimulus checks for $ 1,400. If the Senate also passes it and President Biden signs it, the check could begin shipping to the homes of eligible individuals in mid-March. Another good news is that, on this occasion, families could receive much more money than with the other first two checks, since now all Dependents of all ages will receive a check for $ 1,400, which is more than twice as much money as eligible dependents received with the second stimulus check. In previous rounds, money was only given to dependents under the age of 17. Older teens were left out, regardless...

By MARK LONG, AP Sports Writer HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — William Byron gave NASCAR its third surprise winner in three weeks, this one not quite as stunning as the first two at Daytona International Speedway. Byron controlled most of the final two stages at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday and won for the second time in 111 Cup starts. His first one came at Daytona last August and landed him one of the final spots in the playoffs. No one saw that one coming. And few had this one on the radar, either. Byron entered the weekend as a 28-1 shot to win a race many expected would provide a return to normal for the racing series. Instead, Michael McDowell and Christopher Bell have company in the relatively odd group of 2021 winners. Byron hardly qualifies as even close to as much of a shocker as the previous two — both...
