As ice from winter storm thaws, southern pool owners wait to learn extent of damage Two Ohio ‘Oath Keepers’ charged in U.S. Capitol siege By Gabe Allen, RotoWire Special to Yahoo Sports Cleaning up on the waiver wire goes a long way toward winning (or placing in) your fantasy league. Many mediocre drafts have been salvaged by playing the waiver wire wisely — but perhaps just as many excellent drafts have been squandered by resting on one’s laurels. Apart from swindling another team via trade, the waiver wire remains the best opportunity to improve your team’s standing throughout the season. Several solid players who were deservedly and prominently featured in recent waiver wire columns — such as Jae’Sean Tate (27% rostered), Jakob Poeltl (42%), and Saddiq Bey (43%) — are still rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues. CHICAGO (CBS) — As new coronavirus cases in Chicago continue to decline, the city is easing restrictions on indoor dining for the second time in less than a week, increasing capacity limits for restaurants and bars. Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office said Tuesday morning bars and restaurants will be allowed to increase indoor capacity to 40% of normal or 50 people per room, whichever is less, effective immediately. RELATED: Chicago Fire Department Hosts Graduation Ceremony For New Firefighters The announcement comes just five days after the city allowed indoor service at bars and restaurants to expand to 25% of normal capacity, or a maximum of 50 people per room, whichever is less. The mayor’s office said the latest expansion of indoor dining is part of the roadmap the city laid out last week to gradually increase capacity limits for restaurants and bars. BOSTON (CBS) — Daniel Theis will not have an opportunity to foul out during Tuesday night’s Celtics-Nuggets clash in Boston. The C’s big man was deemed “questionable” for the tilt on Monday’s injury report, but has now been downgraded to “out” with a sprained finger. The injury, which Theis suffered in Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the Washington Wizards, comes at a bad time for the Celtics. Boston will now have to deal with one of the NBA’s best players, Nikola Jokic, without the team’s most consistent big man. Jokic is averaging 26.5 points per game this season, 14.3 of which come inside the paint. With the Cleveland Cavaliers recently deciding to sit Andre Drummond while they look for a suitable trade partner, a number of teams have been mentioned as potential destinations for the two-time All-Star center. These include the San Antonio Spurs, which, as recently proposed, could acquire him in exchange for a package featuring LaMarcus Aldridge and a 2021 second-round pick. On Monday, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz published a list of trade ideas involving Drummond, noting in his entry for the Spurs that the team might want to break its tradition of not making midseason moves by swapping the 35-year-old Aldridge for the erstwhile Cavaliers star, who is eight years younger. As pointed out, Aldridge has “taken a big step back” in 2020-21, as he is currently averaging a career-low in rebounds while dealing with a hip injury that has forced him to miss several games. According to Swartz, Aldridge might not...
LeBron James. Ashley Landis/AP Images Over a third of the way into the NBA season, there is no true front-runner for MVP. LeBron James and Joel Embiid lead the race with solid counting stats and huge impacts on their team's success. Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo are also having stellar seasons, while Damian Lillard and Nikola Jokic are solid candidates whose teams need to improve. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Through about a third of the NBA season, there's no clear front-runner for MVP. Indeed, this year's MVP race looks set to be one of the closest in years, perhaps since 2016-17, in which Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Kawhi Leonard see-sawed, with Westbrook eventually taking home the award. While there are several worthy candidates, LeBron James and Joel Embiid sit atop of the leaderboards. Both have worthy cases.James and Embiid have arguably the same case...
Getty The Golden State Warriors bounced back from their tough loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday with a 114-91 win in an epic rematch on Tuesday. Warriors’ guard Stephen Curry is currently averaging a little under 34 minutes a game, which is quite low considering the fact that he’s the team’s star player. After the game, the All-Star responded to the amount of playing time that he is receiving this season. Steph Curry Opens Up About Playing Time Getty After the Warriors big win over the San Antonio Spurs in their second game of the back-to-back matchup, Curry was asked about the amount of playing time that he’s received so far this season, per the Warriors’ SoundCloud. Knicks’ Derrick Rose tells us exactly what we want to hear By: Alexander Wilson February 9, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditWhen rumors bubble to the surface that the New York Knicks were interested in acquiring point guard Derrick Rose, most were curious as to why. Rose was previously playing for the Detroit Pistons in his 13th season in the NBA and was still averaging a respectable 14.2 points per game. He hasn’t started a contest this year over 15 games, but his influence is still beneficial to the team he’s playing for. Knicks’ new head coach Tom Thibodeau has close ties to Rose, and acquiring him had more to do with developing youth than making him their starting point guard. Rose affirmed this reality, and it is exactly what we want to hear as Knick fans. “I thought it wasn’t going to happen at...
San Antonio Spurs center LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the veteran superstars who are expected to be moved before the 2021 trade deadline. The Spurs are yet to make Aldridge officially available on the trading block but if they don’t have any plan of giving him a new contract, most people believe that it would be best for them to trade him now than lose him in 2021 free agency without getting anything in return. One of the ideal landing spots for Aldridge this season is the Los Angeles Clippers. In a recent article, Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World suggested a hypothetical blockbuster deal that would form the Clippers’ “Big Three” of Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George in Los Angeles. In the proposed scenario, the Clippers would be sending a package that includes Ivica Zubac, Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley, and Mfiondu Kabengele to the Spurs in exchange for Aldridge....
3 players the New York Knicks could use as trade bait By: Alexander Wilson February 6, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Knicks could be looking to engage in trade talks as the season progresses. Sitting three games back from .500, the Knicks are in a better position than most believed. Considering the organization has been so bad the past few years, head coach Tom Thibodeau was working with a band of misfit toys. However, he’s done a stellar job installing his system extracting the best out of each individual player. Even though the Knicks are playing above expectations, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t use more support. Whispers have indicated potential interest in Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine. While it is highly unlikely Chicago traded LaVine, if the Knicks are offering a great deal, they should at least consider. Other players have also...

Department of Health Secretary Umair Shah said Thursday that the state continues to make progress to get closer to the goal of giving 45,000 vaccines a day. “We all know that we have a lot of work still ahead,” he said during the department’s weekly news conference. “We are steadily improving these numbers as our allocations increase.” Last month, the state moved into Phase 1B on the vaccination schedule, which was modified to lower the age of eligibility from 70 to 65. Phase 1B also includes those age 50 and older who live in multigenerational homes. In December, the state started vaccinating health care workers, high-risk first responders and people living or working in nursing homes. Later tiers of Phase 2 will...

Karl Malone has a problem with Zion Williamson’s usage. It’s hard to find even one bad thing to say about New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson, as the former No. 1 overall pick and highlight machine is becoming one of the league’s best power forwards while helping change the culture in New Orleans. Somehow, Utah Jazz Hall-of-Famer Karl Malone, who is no stranger to controversy for what can charitably be called a questionable off-court life, thinks that he doesn’t have his foot all the way down on the gas pedal, using Zion’s 32.4 minutes per game average as proof. On The Player’s Tribune’s “Knuckleheads” podcast, Malone claims that Williamson should be averaging 40 minutes a game, citing the belief that 20-year-olds like Zion can’t cite fatigue as a reason not to be on the floor for almost the whole game. Karl Malone calls out Zion Williamson: "Zion needs to be averaging...

According to a recently proposed trade idea, Julius Randle of the New York Knicks could finally get to play for a potential title contender if he gets moved to the Boston Celtics in exchange for two of their young players and two future draft selections. On Friday, NBA Analysis Network’s Greg Patuto pointed out that Randle has been one of the few bright spots for a Knicks team that has lost four straight games after getting off to a strong 5-3 start. Currently, the 26-year-old forward is averaging 22.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists and shooting 49.8 percent from the field — all representing significant improvements from his performance in the 2019-20 campaign, per Basketball-Reference. Given Randle’s strong play for a perennially struggling organization, Patuto suggested that the Celtics — who are leading the Eastern Conference with a 7-3 record — could acquire the former Kentucky Wildcats standout for...

New York Knicks’ Julius Randle and showing off his dominance and it’s bad news for Obi Toppin By: Alexander Wilson December 28, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditWhen the New York Knicks entered the preseason, there was a serious debate that eighth overall pick Obi Toppin could cut into Julius Randle’s minutes, but that question has since been answered. Toppin has suffered a calf strain that could keep him out for quite some time, and in his absence, Randle is completely dominating. However, the Randle and Toppin tandem is set to be an exciting one. Playing him simultaneously would’ve been and will be an interesting mesh, and Randle was actually excited about the addition of Obi. “He can shoot it and run the floor. So I think we’ll be able to complement each other well,” Randle said. The New York Knicks are seeing some of their...
