A growing body of evidence suggests the coronavirus causes severe psychotic episodes in some infected patients.  Scientists have identified several extreme cases of Covid-induced psychosis, including one horrific case involving a mother-of-four in New York who said she kept seeing her children being gruesomely murdered 'like a scene from Kill Bill'.  Another unnamed British woman suffered from hallucinations of monkeys, saw hospital staff as devils and became convinced a family member had been replaced by an impostor. Covid patients who have never experienced mental health problems before and have no previous psychiatric history are developing the severe symptoms weeks after contracting the virus, experts say.   They believe the brain-related effects of the virus may be linked to the body's immune system response and possibly to vascular issues.  Psychotic symptoms, including visual hallucinations, have been observed in patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 with no previous psychiatric history (stock picture) RELATED ARTICLES...

He was 71. Cissé died after contracting COVID-19, his eldest son Bocar told The Associated Press on Friday. “The doctors did everything to keep him alive, but that’s the way of God’s will,” he said. The death throws Malian politics into new uncertainty. Cissé was the runner-up in the past three presidential elections and many thought he had the best chances of finally winning in 2022. He was taken hostage by al-Qaida-affiliated jihadis in March while campaigning for legislative elections in his hometown of Niafunke in northern Mali. Amid public pressure, the Malian government obtained his liberation in October, along with that of French and Italian hostages, in...

FLOWER MOUND, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The principal of Flower Mound High School, Chad Russell is fighting for his life after contracting COVID-19. “I know he has touched so many people over the years as a coach, teacher, principal, friend, etc. I am all asking for your prayers. He is so strong and so very stubborn I know he can do this with all of our help,” Russell’s wife told CBS 11 News. Russell’s battle with COVID-19 started after Thanksgiving and now depends on a hard to receive treatment that has proven successful. The husband and father remains in critical condition at a hospital in Oklahoma City where his wife said he is receiving ECMO treatment. The treatment takes a patient’s blood out of their body and helps put oxygen in it when COVID-19 attacks the lungs and heart. Some patients with few options otherwise have had success with the treatment. Flower...

A 45-year-old British man has lost his hearing in one ear after catching the coronavirus – prompting experts to warn that the deadly bug may cause permanent deafness among some patients, according to reports. The man — whose only underlying medical condition was asthma — was referred to an otolaryngologist when he experienced the hearing loss after being treated for COVID-19 at a hospital, The Sun reported. His condition had deteriorated after spending about a month on a ventilator but improved when treated with remdesivir, steroids and a blood transfusion, according to the news outlet. But the man soon developed tinnitus — or ringing — in his left ear and then lost hearing in it. Specialists found no blockages or inflammation in his ear canals.
