With the presence of the Electoral Committee of the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), the only candidate for the presidency of the Cruceña Football Association (ACF), Noel Montaño, obtained 21 votes in favor -of the 30 possible- to proclaim himself the winner of the elections. He was sworn in as the new starter this Sunday. The formula named A Goal for Santa Cruz was the only one authorized to participate in this process, after meeting the required requirements. Montaño will lead the ACF for the 2021-2025 management. The electoral contest should have been held two weeks ago, but a constitutional protection presented by one of the members of Pablo Salomón’s plate stopped the process. In addition, the former candidate asked to be taken into account, since he had been disqualified for not complying with the requirements to stand for election. The last legal recourse was denied by the Fourth Constitutional...
Ashley Vanderbilt is a South Carolinian, a mother, and as of now, a former QAnon believer. She is also the subject of a rather stunning interview with CNN’s resident QAnon expert, Donie O’Sullivan, who has quickly made a name for himself reporting on America’s ugly underbelly of dangerous conspiracy theories. QAnon is the dangerous online conspiracy cult that has become to encompass many separate conspiracy theories, which include outrageous ideas like the Democratic party is led by a cannibalistic set of pedophiles and that former President Donald Trump will eventually regain the White House in March 2021. (He won’t.) Like many conspiracies, it is nearly impossible to prove that it is not true, mostly due to the logical fallacy of trying to prove a negative. Do you think Bigfoot is a myth? You just haven’t seen him yet. Saddam Hussein has WMD, we just haven’t found them yet. And so on....

Washington (CNN)President Joe Biden was sworn in on a 19th century family Bible on Wednesday, continuing his longtime tradition of using the heirloom during his decades of public service. The five-inch thick Bible features a Celtic cross on the cover, and has been in the Biden family since 1893. The President has used the Bible each time he has taken an oath of office, including during his first Senate swearing-in in 1973 and his swearings-in as vice president in 2009 and 2013. Senator Joseph Biden takes the oath of office from the U.S. Senate's secretary, Frank Valeo with his father-in-law Robert Hunter and son Joseph Beau Biden at his side, in Beau's hospital room. Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942 and is 78-years-old, making him the oldest person to be sworn in as President of the United States. In comparison, the average age of presidents at inauguration throughout American history is around 55, making Biden nearly 1.5 times older than previous commanders-in-chief. The record had previously been held by his predecessor, Donald Trump, who was 70 when he assumed the position. Joe Biden Gets Sworn In At 78-Years-Old   Alex Wong Though Biden holds the distinction of being the oldest president in American history, he was ironically one of the youngest politicians to hold the position of senator. Biden was just 29-years-old when he was elected to serve in Congress in 1972 and was sworn in just a month after his 30th birthday, the minimum age requirement for members of the upper chamber. Over the past year, Biden’s age had been...

New Hampshire House Speaker Dick Hinch died from COVID-19, a medical examiner ruled Thursday following his unexpected death. Hinch, who was only sworn in as leader of the state's newly Republican-led Legislature a week ago, died Wednesday. Hinch was 71 and was starting his seventh, two-year term in the state House. He previously served as majority leader for the 2016-17 session and as minority leader when Democrats were in control the last two years. His death was announced Wednesday night by his office, which did not give any details of what it called "this unexpected tragedy." Hinch is the first New Hampshire speaker to die during the session, according to House Clerk Paul Smith. "We are sitting in unchartered territory here," Smith said. The swearing-in of the 400-member House and 24-member Senate was held outdoors at the University of New Hampshire because of the coronavirus pandemic. More than a...

A sworn officer with the Los Angeles Police Department died of coronavirus complications on Friday, leaving behind his partner who is 20 weeks pregnant with twins. Officer Valentin 'Val' Martinez, 45, has become the first sworn LAPD officer to die of COVID-19, and the second coronavirus-related officer death in the department.  Martinez was a 13-year veteran who worked as a patrol officer in the Mission Division in San Fernando Valley.  'Today we lost one of our own, Officer Valentin "Val" Martinez #38701 to COVID-19.' wrote the Mission Station on Twitter. The Mission Division erected a small memorial for Martinez in their department building with candles, flower bouquets and a photo of him.  LAPD Officer Valentin 'Val'...
Lazarus Chakwera’s political fortunes were revived by a court ruling that annulled last year’s flawed election Lazarus Chakwera has been sworn in as president of Malawi after winning an election rerun. He defeated incumbent Peter Mutharika with 58.57% of the vote in Tuesday’s poll, the electoral commission announced late on Saturday. In February, Malawi’s constitutional court annulled Mr Mutharika’s victory in the May 2019 election, citing vote tampering. The country was bitterly divided in the run-up to this week’s election. Other countries in Africa have had elections annulled – it happened in Kenya in 2017 – but for the opposition candidate to then go on and win a rerun is unprecedented, correspondents say. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s results, Mr Mutharika said that while he found the election “unacceptable”, it was his “sincere hope that we should take this country forward instead of backwards.” Saulos Chilima, Mr Chakwera’s running mate,...
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — A new president has taken power in Burundi two months early after the abrupt death of his predecessor, whose 15-year rule ended in deadly repression and a sharp rejection of outside scrutiny. Now the country waits to see if more of that will follow. Evariste Ndayishimiye won the May election and was set to take office in August, but the death of Pierre Nkurunziza from what the government called a heart attack threw the East African nation into uncertainty. Ministers turned to the constitutional court, which said the president-elect should be sworn in as soon as possible. This is the first time a Burundian president has been sworn in before the people and not parliament. With little sign of face masks or social distancing at Thursday’s ceremony, it appeared there was no immediate change in the government’s belief that divine protection would largely suffice for the...
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — The Missouri town that became synonymous with the Black Lives Matter movement after the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown will swear in its first black mayor Tuesday night. Ella Jones, 65, defeated City Council colleague Heather Robinette, who is white, 54% to 46% to win the three-year term in an election on June 2. Term limits prohibited the incumbent, James Knowles III, from seeking a fourth term. Jones will be sworn in Tuesday night at City Hall, and a second ceremony is planned for Wednesday at the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis office in Ferguson. She inherits leadership of one of America’s most high-profile small towns. Brown, 18, was fatally shot by white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson during a street confrontation on Aug. 9, 2014. Some people near the scene initially said the black teenager had his arms up in surrender, and protests...
