House Democrats reissued a subpoena for former President Donald Trump’s financial records from his accounting firm, continuing their court fight for access to Trump’s tax returns, even though President Biden is in office, and the presiding judge said the battle would continue into June or beyond. The House Oversight Committee sent a subpoena to Mazars USA in late February, court records show, as Democrats seek business information on the former president. A similar subpoena had been issued in April 2019, with Trump’s lawyers taking the fight to the Supreme Court while he was president, ultimately stymieing efforts by Democrats to get their hands on the Trump Organization’s financials. The Manhattan district attorney's office obtained Trump's tax returns in February, however, when its subpoena to Mazars was successfully enforced, and Democrats on Capitol Hill want access to the records too. NEW BOSTON — Before and after Saturday’s matinee of a Southern Ohio Conference Division I boys basketball makeup matchup, the New Boston Tigers first celebrated their winter Homecoming —then simply celebrated their second consecutive SOC I outright championship by cutting down the nets in some dazzling red-clad shirts. In between, the Red simply had its way with visiting Green, as — for the second time this season against the Bobcats — the talented and highly-touted Tigers notched 94 or more points. That’s because the Tigers tallied the opening six counters, including an omen layup right off the opening tipoff — and never trailed in ultimately winning by a 94-64 count inside a socially-distant and unusually sun-soaked Homer Pellegrinon Gymnasium. That’s right, Saturday’s sunshine shown through the large upper corner window of the gym —and spotlighted on the Tigers taking their SOC I win streak to 28 games. New Boston, which...

Anger over Texas' power outages in the face of a record winter freeze continued to mount Wednesday as millions of residents in the energy capital of the U.S. remained shivering. There were still no assurances that their electricity and heat — out since Monday in many homes — would return soon or stay on once it finally does.  "I know people are angry and frustrated," Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Tuesday. "So am I." In all, nearly 3 million customers in Texas still had no power Wednesday after historic snowfall and single-digit temperatures created a surge in demand for electricity to warm up homes unaccustomed to such extreme lows, buckling the state's power grid and causing widespread blackouts. A large swath of Texas was under yet another winter storm warning Wednesday. Making matters worse: Expectations that the outages would be a shared sacrifice by the state's 30 million residents...

Admittedly, they’ve been running up the score against some of the worst defenses in the league — Brooklyn and Orlando (twice) but they desperately needed to get right and they’re finally there. This stretch includes Fred VanVleet’s outlier 54-point explosion but he’s...

College basketball’s stretch run typically brings intensified interest in postseason position and hot seat speculation: If the coach isn’t churning toward success on Selection Sunday, is he headed for dismissal on Black Monday? The termination calculation isn’t necessarily the same this season, with rosters in constant flux, athletic budgets in disarray and pandemic optics at top of mind for university officials. No less than five coaches in the Pac-12 who might be on fragile ground in a normal year are seemingly safe this spring, for reasons outlined below. In other words, it’s time for a Pac-12 seat heat check (listed alphabetically): — Stanford’s Jerod Haase Why it should be hot: No program in the conference has defined mediocrity better than Stanford over Haase’s tenure. Traders on the floor of the New York Stock ExchangeSource: The New York Stock Exchange In typical bull-market fashion, big investors rushed to trim back on equity risk the week before last only to re-load days later once the erratic short-squeeze activity abated, a prominent hedge-fund "victim" bobbed to the surfaced and the broader system bent without anything important breaking. In the late-January dip, credit markets didn't flinch and Treasury yields failed to give up much if their recent surge – which resumed last week as investors reprice debt markets for an economic acceleration and the Federal Reserve's new vow to stoke and tolerate more inflation. This was a sign that the turbulence was strictly an equity-positioning adjustment, allowing for a flutter of fear and confusion to cool investor expectations before they got to unstable extremes. The market sits in something of a sweet spot, benefiting from the stupendous profitability...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The extreme cold isn’t scaring away these ice fishers, which is clear by the dozens of ice houses out on Medicine Lake in Plymouth on Friday night. The below-zero drop in temperature gives the ice fishers the confidence to know the ice is thick and there’s no risk of breaking through. “I’m going fishing, come hell or high water,” said Robert Nelson, who was ice fishing all weekend with his buddy on Medicine Lake. While it’s freezing outside, it feel almost tropical in his ice house. “I can get it as hot as I want, 80 to 90 degrees,” said Nelson. “The whole thing is insulated. SACRAMENTO (CBS / AP) — California is again pushing back the deadline and raising the cost for its high-speed rail project, this time asking the Biden administration for a one-year extension on completing construction on a section of track in the Central Valley. Brian Kelly, the project’s chief executive officer, detailed delays and cost changes to the project in a letter released Friday alongside the project’s updated business plan. He’ll discuss it Tuesday at a meeting of the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s board of directors. The state now expects to complete construction on a 119-mile segment of track from Bakersfield to Madera in the Central Valley by 2023, Kelly wrote. Some of the money is tied to meeting a federal 2022 deadline, prompting the request for an extension. The budget for that segment of track is expected to jump from $12.4 to $13.8 billion, Kelly wrote. The business plan, a...

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Rick Barnes has a message for anyone wanting to count out the Southeastern Conference this season. Not so fast. His 18th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers routed No. 15 Kansas 80-61 Saturday night, clinching a 5-4 win in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. It’s just the second time the SEC has won this non-conference showdown created as a chance at improving resumes in late January and a bit of an NCAA Tournament preview. The last time the SEC won this event was in 2018 when it sent a league-record eight teams to the NCAA Tournament. The SEC has had 15 NCAA Tournament teams since that season, second-most in the country in that span. “I am glad we won the challenge, I really am,” Barnes said. “If there is enough talk about our league not being very good and people talking arguably the Big 12 or the Big...

BOSTON (CBS) – How many days this winter would you say have been too unbearable to go outside? A handful? None? January is just about wrapped up and to this point we haven’t had any bone-chilling or true Arctic airmasses. Last weekend was pretty cold I suppose, (30/17 Saturday and 31/16 Sunday), but that was only about 4 degrees below average for the date. And, before that, there was that one stretch in mid-December with similar temperatures, the coldest being Dec. 16th (30/16 for a high and low). That’s pretty weak if you ask me for mid-winter in New England. Last winter was no different. The coldest we got all winter was 12 degrees on February 15th which was followed by several days in the 40s and then a record high 64 degrees a little more than a week later. To find any REAL cold, you have to go back...

As the Nets got to crunch time Monday night, entering the fourth quarter trailing the Heat by a point, Steve Nash turned to Jeff Green to step into the stretch 5 position. The steady veteran never came out the rest of the game, which turned into a 13-point win. It was the latest case of Green serving as spackle for the Nets, filling whatever holes they need while they figure out their new team on the fly with plenty of moving pieces around him. “He’s sort of just the glue guy,” Joe Harris said Tuesday before the Nets flew to Atlanta for Wednesday’s game against the Hawks. “He does a little bit of everything for us and really just sort of steadies the ship. Winter has brought New York’s worst stretch of the coronavirus crisis since May, with at least 4,800 dead from COVID-19 in the past 30 days, according to state statistics. But in recent days, there have been signs of a possible turnaround. Statewide, hospitalizations are flattening. Last week the state averaged around 13,300 new cases per day, down steadily from a seasonal peak of around 16,300 new infections per day just under two weeks ago. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday that elective surgeries at hospitals in Erie County may now resume because of falling infection rates in parts of western New York. He said he plans to announce other changes to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions in several parts of the state Wednesday but didn’t offer specifics.

A 70-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car in the southeast end of Englewood early Thursday. The city resident was struck at the corner of Broad and Van Nostrand avenues around 6:30 a.m., Police Chief Lawrence Suffern said. She was conscious and alert when taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with leg and back injuries, as well as a cut on her head, that didn't appear life-threatening, the chief said. Police issued a summons to the 33-year-old driver from Paterson for failing to yield to a pedestrian, he said. Mayor Michael Wildes, who lives just up the street, noted that the area is "a dangerous corridor where several pedestrians and neighbors have sadly been killed through the years." Authorities have undertaken campaigns to increase awareness, the mayor said, adding that the stretch of Van Nostrand from Jones to Grand avenues "demand greater attention for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers."

PopSockets became famous for phone grips that you can attach to the back of a device. It’s had to conjure up new types of products these past years as wireless charging became increasingly popular, though, such as the MagSafe-compatible line for iPhone 12 that it has launched at CES 2021. The new line includes three grips, the first of which (simply called PopGrip for MagSafe) attaches to iPhone 12 MagSafe cases with a magnet instead of an adhesive. That way, you can easily remove it when it’s time to charge. It also features a no-slip rubber bottom and swappable top, so you can change the way it looks whenever you want. The PopGrip Slide Stretch, on the other hand, has “expanding arms” that mechanically attach to the sides of most cases. You can simply slide it toward the bottom of a phone when you need to charge or when you...

Pro volleyball player Morgan Miller took to Instagram to share how she got her body back into shape - and eradicated her stretch marks - after giving birth to twin boys 14 months ago.  Morgan, 33, who is married to Olympic skier Bode Miller, made the revelations in a series of Instagram Stories posts Saturday.  She began by sharing a picture of her stomach while she was still pregnant with the twin, Asher and Aksel, which included vivid, red stretch marks covering her belly.  Morgan Miller shared how she got back into shape after giving birth to twin sons 14 months ago. PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Duane Washington Jr. scored 17 points and Ohio State closed the first half with a big run to beat No. 15 Rutgers 79-68 on Saturday. The Buckeyes (9-3, 3-3 Big Ten) used a 22-4 burst to take a 42-30 lead at halftime in sending Rutgers (7-4, 3-4) to its third straight loss. Ohio State started the second half strong, too, expanding its lead to 52-32 with 15:56 left. Rutgers trailed by 22 before making a late rally. Paul Mulcahy stole the ball from Jimmy Sotos, leading to a fast-break dunk that capped a 14-2 surge that made it 67-57 with 3:50 to play. Sotos appeared to injure his shoulder on the play and was taken to the locker room. The Buckeyes were already missing senior C.J. Walker, who is out with a thumb injury. The Scarlet Knights got no closer than eight points down the stretch,...
(CNN)President Donald Trump's top aides delivered a blunt warning to him Thursday as he sat sullenly in the West Wing and watched as his Republican allies, Cabinet secretaries and former senior staffers criticized or denounced him one by one. His daughter Ivanka Trump, White House counsel Pat Cipollone, chief of staff Mark Meadows and others told Trump there was a real chance he would be removed from office -- whether by his own Cabinet or lawmakers -- if he did not more forcefully denounce the actions of his supporters who attacked the US Capitol the day before. Trump did not initially want to issue a video decrying the loyalists whose actions he largely supported -- and whom he said he "loved" a day earlier -- but he told aides to prepare a speech and then he would decide. Once he read over the brief script they had prepared, Trump agreed...
A look at the weekend around the Southeastern Conference: GAME OF THE WEEKEND: No. 9 Tennessee (8-1, 2-1 SEC) at Texas A&M (6-3, 1-2). The Volunteers lost for the first time this season in a 71-63 defeat at home to Alabama last Saturday. Tennessee now tries to right itself in a difficult stretch of three games, two on the road, in a six-day span. The run began at home Wednesday with a 79-74 victory over Arkansas. It continues at Texas A&M, which is led by one of the most effective two-way players in the SEC in Emanuel Miller. The 6-foot-7 sophomore leads the Aggies at 17 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. His rebounding total is fourth in the SEC and he’s second in league shooting percentage at 60.9 this season with three double doubles. The Vols, led by Victor Bailey Jr. at 13.5 points a game, are fifth in...
McDERMOTT — The West Senators are simply “the Winators” right now. That’s because the senior-heavy, and defensive-oriented, Senators captured their fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday night —going wire-to-wire and winning at Northwest 44-27 in a Southern Ohio Conference Division II makeup matchup. The Senators, buoyed by an aggressive 1-3-1 half-court defense with a midcourt trap, scored several times in which the possession began with a Mohawk turnover —as Northwest was guilty of 24 total turnovers while scoring just 27 points. When West wasn’t able to force a Northwest giveaway, the Senators muddied the Mohawks into an ugly shooting performance —as the young hosts hit just nine of their 40 (22.5-percent) field-goal attempts, including only one three-point make on 18 tries. West was tied twice at 2-2 and 4-4, never trailed, and outscored the Mohawks 19-8 over the first half’s final 10 minutes and 38 seconds to lead by double figures...
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a key interior component of its upcoming electric luxury sedan: a large, curved screen that sweeps across almost the entire width of the car instead of a conventional dashboard. The MBUX Hyperscreen option available on the EQS sedan uses artificial intelligence to learn what functions the driver uses most, such as navigation and hands-free phone calls. Ola Kallenius, CEO of parent company Daimler AG, said Thursday in a recorded video presented online that the screen “only shows what is needed: no scrolling, no browsing.” For instance, if the driver often uses the hot-stone massage function during the winter, the user experience system will suggest the comfort function during cold weather. Or, if the driver calls someone regularly on the way home, the system will suggest a call at the usual time. The screen also lets the front-seat passenger watch television in...
Anthony Davis and LeBron James each scored 26 points, rallying the Los Angeles Lakers to a 94-92 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. James added 11 rebounds and seven assists, and Dennis Schroder finished with 12 points for Los Angeles. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM "That’s why he’s great," Lakers coach Frank Vogel said of James taking over the game with Davis. "He finds a way to make those superhero-type of plays. Our focus is on making sure we don’t need those superhero-type of plays to close games out." Jonas Valanciunas, Dillon Brooks and Gorgui Dieng led Memphis with 13 points apiece, and Brandon Clarke added 12 points. Valanciunas finished with 11 rebounds. On a poor shooting night for both teams, the Lakers were able to depend on James and Davis down the stretch. Los Angeles trailed 79-77 with five minutes left when the two...
Getty Los Angeles Lakers GM Rob Pelinka. The Los Angeles Lakers have gotten off to a fast start this season despite the quick turnaround. The team is 6-2 and is playing well on both sides of the floor. However, the roster might have a weakness when they get closer to the postseason. As of right now, they don’t have great size outside of Marc Gasol and Anthony Davis. When Montrezl Harrell plays late in games, opposing teams take advantage of the undersized center. That could be a problem when the Lakers are playing important games. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report believes the team should trade Harrell for a “stretch big”: Unless the Lakers plan to pivot heavily toward using Anthony Davis at center in the second season (he spent 60 percent of his minutes there in the 2020 playoffs), L.A. should diversify its frontcourt looks ahead of time....

JEFFERSON PARK — Orlando Reyes thought he’d be first in line to renew his driver’s license when he arrived at the Secretary of State driver’s facility at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday — four hours before it was scheduled to open after an extended closure because of the pandemic. But his plan to wait the first few hours in his car had to be ditched when he saw others arrive at 4 a.m., forcing him to get out and wait in line.  That’s where he remained until the facility at 5401 W. Elston Ave. opened at 7:30 a.m., the first time most Secretary of State driver facilities have opened since November when Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White determined it was the safe thing to do for workers and customers because of the coronavirus pandemic.  It was the second extended, coronavirus-forced closure of many of the offices, which Illinois residents rely on for...

SAN JOSE (KPIX) – Drivers in downtown San Jose will soon be able to take a ride down Barack Obama Boulevard. The city’s lawmakers voted Tuesday, to rename a stretch of Bird Avenue, South Montgomery street and North and South Autumn streets in honor of the 44th president. Running between Interstate 280 and West St. John Barack Obama Blvd. will take drivers past the SAP Center, Diridon Station and the new Google Transit Village. Community advocate and Obama campaign volunteer Alex Shoor spearheaded the movement to rename the streets almost 3 years ago, and along with others, amassed signatures and raised money to fund the effort. It is unclear just how soon the name change will take effect. More than a dozen U.S. cities have put the 44th president on the map, including Los Angeles.
