Knicks fans desperate to get back to Madison Square Garden are ponying up $250 for last-minute COVID tests before tip off, in order to meet new state testing rules for large venues. Under the regulations that went into effect Feb. 23, venues with more than 10,000 people can operate at 10 percent capacity — as long as every guest has passed a COVID test within 72 hours of tipoff. But not just any old COVID test will do. The state requires fans to get the more sensitive and accurate PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, tests. Unlike a rapid test, which can give a result in a few minutes, PCR test results can take hours or days. “I’ve been trapped in a house for a year and a half, so I’ll be happy to spend whatever right now,” said Anthony Jones, 33 of Queens, after he shelled out the $250 to...

The Obama administration's well-documented weaponization of intelligence agencies against an opposing campaign in 2016 was both unprecedented and un-American.  But what we're now hearing from the Biden administration has the potential to make Obama's abuses look like child's play.   With the White House now suggesting they will turn the resources of the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) inward to conduct domestic surveillance, they seek the power to covertly target and retaliate against political opponents, potentially silencing dissent.  Given the way Obama operatives created a Russian collusion conspiracy out of whole cloth to serve their political agenda, Americans should be more than just leery of the administration’s justifications for this expanded surveillance. SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A massive fire destroyed a commercial building in Historic South-Central Los Angeles early Thursday morning and spread to a second building, officials said.Firefighters responded about 12:50 a.m. to the 3700 block of South Grand Avenue, near 38th Street, and found heavy fire coming from a one-story 100-foot-by-200-foot building, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. At about 1:15 a.m., Stewart said the fire had gone through the roof and, due to the "possible loss of structural integrity, this is transitioning to a defensive operation.''The flames spread to a nearby two-story, 50-foot-by-100-foot commercial building and caused significant damage, but a "closely coordinated operation'' allowed crews to extinguish that fire and save a large portion of the building, Stewart said. The first building was declared a total loss, she said.A total of 99 firefighters were assigned to the greater-alarm incident, and a knock down was called...

In his broadcast of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Carlson was joined by former undersecretary for the Department of Commerce Corey Stewart, and discussed AT&T’s relationship with China Telecom, as well as the allegations that the Chinese corporation played a role in human rights abuses by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). “We’ve confirmed that AT&T lobbied the Department of Commerce not to levy sanctions against China Telecom, which is a large, state owned corporation headquartered in Beijing,” Carlson began. “Specifically we know that AT&T worked to keep China Telecom off of something called the entity list. That list blocks companies from selling American products and technology to certain foreign firms without first getting a license.” Carlson went on to explain that...

AT&T pressured the Commerce Department to keep a Chinese military-controlled telecom company off the United States' sanction list despite their use of forced labor and other human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims, former Commerce Department undersecretary Corey Stewart told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Wednesday. Stewart verified allegations first reported by the National File, revealing that AT&T executive Ed Gillespie requested that the department keep China Telecom off of what is called the "entities list," reserved for foreign companies who are engaged in human rights or national security violations. The company, headquartered in Beijing, is involved in a joint venture with AT&T and was set to be sanctioned due to its alleged support of human rights abuses by China's Communist government. "It was very disturbing because we had a lot of indications, there is very good intelligence out there, that the Chinese government, through its basically state-owned subsidiary of China Telecom has been using cell phone technology, telecommunications technology, to track minority populations in China, to spy on them, and then to...

Undoing a 120-year-old injustice, the Los Angeles Police Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to posthumously reinstate and retire with honor one of the LAPD’s first Black officers, who they say was pushed out of the department in 1900 based on false allegations against him. Born into slavery in Kentucky in 1850, Robert William Stewart later made his way to Los Angeles and was one of the first two Black policemen to make it onto the LAPD force, which he joined in 1889, said Fred Booker, a special assistant to LAPD Chief Michel Moore. Records from the time showed Stewart had an “exemplary career,” Booker told commissioners. But in 1900, he was terminated after being falsely accused of assaulting a teenager while on patrol, Booker said. The commission at the time approved Stewart’s firing without waiting for his trial, and “though he was ultimately acquitted of all charges, the same...

Marc BenioffKatie Kramer | CNBC The U.S. Justice Department's Antitrust Division has asked Salesforce and Slack for more information ahead of Salesforce's plan to buy the smaller software company for $27 billion, Salesforce said Tuesday. The development could indicate greater scrutiny into prominent technology transactions under the Biden Administration. Even with the additional layer of evaluation, Salesforce still expects to close its deal for Slack in the quarter that ends on July 31, according to a regulatory filing. The review, known as a second request, is not unprecedented: GE's 2017 Baker Hughes acquisition, Charles Schwab's 2020 TD Ameritrade deal and Anheuser-Busch's 2020 transaction with Craft Brew Alliance, which involved the sale of Kona Brewing's Hawaii operations to another company, all faced similar requests. There are signs the U.S. might take a stronger approach to antitrust enforcement than it did under Barack Obama, CNBC reported in January. In Congress, Amy Klobuchar,...

South Carolina’s (5-7, 3-5) shooting fortunes were just the opposite as the Gamecocks were 19 for 61 (31%) and missed 20 of 25 3-point attempts. Keyshawn Bryant and Lawson each scored 13 for the Gamecocks and Seventh Woods scored 10. With the win, the Bulldogs avoided a fifth-straight SEC loss, which previously has...
Kordell Stewart tells his side of “that story”, the one back in 1998 with the Pittsburgh Steelers.Kordell Stewart was a sensational football player in college with the Colorado Buffaloes and most notably, professionally with the Pittsburgh Steelers. “Slash” was a huge part of the Steelers’ success in the late 1990s to early 2000s. While he was AFC Offensive Player of the Year and earned a Pro Bowl berth in 2001, his career was nearly derailed in 1998. Blatant lies about him committing lewd acts in a park is a reflection of how much football, and life in general, has changed. He tells The Players’ Tribune his side of “that story.” [Dr. Frank Sessoms] said, “Listen, I was about to bust somebody upside the head with this cane after what I just heard. Look, man … are you sitting down?” I said, “No, I’m standing up talking on the phone with you....

The source of the explosion was not immediately known and was under investigation. (© Copyright 2020 CBS...

Fox News exclusively obtained the letter sent to SAG President Gabrielle Carteris on Thursday, in which the former president slammed the union, the media and news organizations. SAG-AFTRA responded with just two words: "Thank you." Over on Twitter, former "Daily Show" host Stewart attempted to strike the same tone as Trump in a mock farewell letter. "I too, renounce SAG-AFTRA!!! You have let me down as well, done nothing...I will no longer abide your gross abdication of...oh wait...I’m just s----y at acting...never mind. Stephen Dunn / Staff Quarterback Kordell Stewart of the Pittsburgh Steelers in action during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 1, 1998. It wasn’t long after he was drafted in the second-round in the 1995 NFL Draft that Kordell Stewart found success on the playing field—at three positions. Hence the nickname SLASH, a reference to how Bill Cowher and the Pittsburgh Steelers initially utilized him as a wide receiver/running back/quarterback. Then in 1997 he became Pittsburgh’s quarterback, a position he held until early in the 2002 season, when he was supplanted by former Denver Broncos first-round pick Tommy Maddox. During his tenure as starting QB, Stewart led the Steelers to two AFC Championship games and won AFC Offensive Player of the Year in 2001. A Nasty Rumor EmergesBut his tenure with the Steelers was complicated, in part because many...
By CEDAR ATTANASIO, Associated Press/Report for America SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico’s largest teachers union is opposing legislation that would extend the school year to make up for learning that was lost during the coronavirus pandemic. Children are facing unprecedented setbacks amid online instruction, and court rulings are pressuring state leaders to improve student outcomes, which were some of the worst in the nation even before the virus hit. “This is one way to help those students gain back what they’ve lost and to move ahead academically in the future," said Sen. Mimi Stewart, an Albuquerque Democrat and retired teacher who sponsored the bill. “It’s money that we have. It’s two evidence-based programs that are already being used all over the state.” Those programs offer state funding to extend elementary school calendars by 25 days and upper grades by 10 days. Teachers, who are normally unpaid during summer...
David Livingston/Getty Images One of the most iconic things about the Star Trek universe is Patrick Stewart giving the “Space, the final frontier” speech over the opening credits of Star Trek: The Next Generation. According to Stewart himself, that iconic voiceover could have sounded much different if the showrunners had gone with their original plans for his character. As fans of The Next Generation (TNG) know, Jean-Luc Picard is French. Throughout the entire series, his family lives in France. Decades later in Picard, the character is shown living in his family’s homestead in the French countryside. However, Picard always spoke with a British accent, which fans know as Stewart’s true voice. This discrepancy was explained in TNG a few times. In the Star Trek canon, French was considered an archaic language by the 24th century and was rarely used by members of Starfleet. So, Picard never spoke with a French accent because he likely...
A Georgia detention center with the second-highest COVID-19 rate in the nation recently expanded the population of immigrants it detains to include women. In a statement to Prism, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that as of Jan. 27, the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia, detains 11 women. This is an increase from December when the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Stewart had two women in custody. ICE said that it plans to detain women at Stewart for the foreseeable future. This is the first time the facility has detained women since at least 2008. Advocates are concerned about the federal immigration agency’s decision to transfer women during a pandemic—especially to Stewart, which is notorious for abuse, medical neglect, and in-custody deaths. In July, Gaby Del Valle and José Olivares reported for The Intercept that medically vulnerable immigrants detained at Stewart were subject to excessive force by guards,...

At a plea hearing in federal court in Alexandria, Stewart admitted he never provided any equipment. Prosecutors say the government lost no money on the contracts because he was to be paid on delivery. But the government was cheated out of more than $330,000 in two other schemes. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The age requirement for child booster seats would be boosted up a year and day care centers would have to install alarms in vans used to transport children under two bills unanimously approved by a Florida Senate committee on Wednesday. Right now, Florida requires children up to the age of five to be placed in a car seat or booster seat. Republican Sen. Keith Perry's bill would raise that age to six. “Data shows that if we can move this by a year we will save a lot children's lives," Perry told the Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee. The committee also approved Democratic Sen. Linda Stewart's bill to require alarms to alert child care center van drivers to check to see if any children are left in the vehicle. “Each and every year we hear about the tragedy that could be avoided and deaths in...
