The 960 Franklin Avenue development proposal only made it past on the first step of the city’s uniform land use review process (ULURP) before it tried to change course. Heeding calls from the community, project developers attempted to scale back their original 34-story, 1.4 million square foot massive structure which threatened not only the neighborhood’s affordability but it’s natural sunlight as well.  “This represents an existential threat to the garden” says Ethan Lustig-Elgrably, Director of Government and Community Affairs at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  The Brooklyn cultural institution is at the forefront of the opposition. Armed with the tagline “Fight for Sunlight and a petition that has already garnered over 50,000 signatures and initiatives to mobilize the community, the garden has launched an intense call to action for locals and beyond, hoping to stop the city from allowing the structure to be built.

James Franklin is a head coach worth the Tennessee football program actively pursuing. As the Tennessee football program looks to find its next head coach, the Vols could be targeting a guy who had tremendous success previously in the SEC East in James Franklin. Being able to pry Franklin away from an outstanding job like Penn State will be a near impossible task for new athletic director Danny White to pull off. However, Franklin was an outstanding head coach during his three-year run with the Vanderbilt Commodores in the early 2010s. Going from Penn State to Tennessee is a lateral move in some ways, but getting back into the SEC is huge. Will Tennessee succeed by taking a home-run cut to steal Franklin away?If the Vols were to somehow land Franklin, it would be on par with the university being able to rip White away from Central Florida. Simply put, you...

His body was last seen yesterday, hours after he died after being hospitalized with pneumonia caused by COVID-19. Franklin Graham, the evangelical preacher and ardent supporter of President Trump, compared the 10 Republican lawmakers who voted in favor of impeachment on Wednesday to Judas, who betrayed Jesus Christ. In a lengthy Facebook post, Graham lashed out at the 10 members of Congress who joined the Democrats to impeach the president a second time - the only time in US history that a sitting commander-in-chief was impeached twice. ‘Shame, shame on the ten Republicans who joined with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in impeaching President Trump yesterday,’ Graham wrote on Thursday. He then added: ‘It makes you wonder what the thirty pieces of silver were that Speaker Pelosi promised for this betrayal.’ According to the New Testament, Judas Iscariot, a disciple of Jesus, is said to have received 30 silver coins from the Pharisees in exchange for agreeing to hand him over before the Last Supper. ...

After all that he has done for our country, you would turn your back and betray him so quickly?” Graham asked in a Thursday Facebook post, listing some of President Trump’s key accomplishments, including lowering taxes, strengthening the economy, and engaging in Middle East peace initiatives: We have never had a president like him in my lifetime. He gave us lower taxes, a strong economy, and low unemployment. He made NATO take notice and pay their own way. He had the guts to take on North Korea and...

Evangelist Franklin Graham this week told Georgia residents that they must vote in Tuesday’s two U.S. Senate run-offs because “the soul of our nation is at stake.” Graham said this on his Facebook page. “Please encourage your family, your friends, your community to pray and to vote. If conservatives lose control of the Senate, there is nothing to stop the radical agenda of the left. There will not be another chance to get this right. The nation is depending on you,” Graham said. “Why are these two seats so important? The control of the U.S. Senate is at stake. The Senate is the last line of defense to block the radical, wicked agenda that is trying to take control of our nation. This is a Christmas unlike any other. Large family gatherings and office parties have been replaced with grim lockdowns, quarantines and isolation. What used to be the warmest and most welcoming time of the year can now feel sterile and cold. It’s no wonder so many hearts are gripped by fear and anxiety right now. Study after study shows just how severe the problem has become. A national survey by universities such as Harvard and Northeastern recently found nearly half of young adults now show symptoms of depression amid the pandemic. Millions of seniors are also suffering from the devastating impacts of prolonged social isolation. Researchers have determined loneliness can be as bad for our health as smoking 15 cigarettes per day. Gripping six-part whodunnit drama The Undoing came to an end last night with a tense finale that finally revealed the identity of Elena Alves's killer.  Over the first five episodes viewers were left reeling as almost every character became a possible suspect while Elena's oncologist lover Johnathan Fraser (Hugh Grant) stood trial for her murder.  By the start of last night's episode, there were theories circulating that psychologically frayed psychiatrist Grace (Nicole Kidman), her impossibly wealthy father Franklin (Donald Sutherland) or even her 12-year-old son Henry (Noah Jupe) could have been responsible.  But in the final moments of the episode it emerged that Johnathan had actually murdered Elena (Matilda De Angelis), the mother of his illegitimate daughter, in a brutal attack in her New York art studio that fateful night.   But while that particular loose end was tied up, there are plenty of other unanswered questions that have left social...

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Gathering with family for Thanksgiving is an American tradition. But this year, health experts warn even small get togethers indoors could be risky for spreading the coronavirus. How to celebrate without spreading COVID-19 is weighing on many families. “The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is virtually so with our immediate family, the people with whom we live, and keeping the group small. I think if people do that, we have a much better chance of staving off and dealing with the surge that we’re seeing now,” says Dr. Helen Boucher with the Infectious Diseases Society of America. The CDC says small outdoor dinners with family and friends who live in your community are considered moderate risk, and large indoor gatherings with people not from your household are considered high risk. Last week’s presidential election has once again prompted a wave of soul searching by the polling industry, as many polls greatly overestimated the support president-elect Joe Biden had in battleground states. One of those states? Our neighbor Wisconsin. Going into the election, polling averages from FiveThirtyEight and RealClearPolitics put Biden 8.4 points and 6.7 points ahead of President Donald Trump, respectively, in the Badger State. Preliminary election results put Biden’s actual margin of victory at 0.7 percentage points in Wisconsin, making it a much closer race than polls, on average, had suggested. Polling averages were also off in Ohio, which had the race close, but went for Trump by nearly 10 percentage points, and Pennsylvania, which was a closer race than anticipated. Interestingly, though, the polling average was not far off the mark in Minnesota, where FiveThirtyEight and RealClearPolitics had Biden ahead 9.2 points and 4.3 points, respectively, in their...

James Franklin is this close to keeping Justin Fields as his quarterback. When the No. 2 overall player in the 2018 recruitment class promised Franklin and the Nittani Lions – if they did so largely due to the abnormal white out environment on Saturday night – it would have brought a great deal of talent to State College. Instead, Franklin now has to build a game plan for him for two years in a row, and on Saturday night the future top five NFL draft selection will combine his career with four passing touchdowns to cross 288-34 with 318 yards and a 199.7 quarterback rating. The best quarterback fields Franklin has ever coached in his life, and when asked that right question – Have you ever faced a better quarterback than Justin Fields? – Franklin put it to the side and instead pushed it to the...
Penn State football coach James Franklin confirmed sophomore running back Noah Cain will be out for the remainder of the season as the injuries mount for the Nittany Lions. The losses continue to mount at running back for Penn State football. Head coach James Franklin confirmed on Tuesday that sophomore running back Noah Cain has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Cain suffered a lower leg injury in the team’s season-opening loss to Indiana, sustaining the injury on the opening drive. He carried the ball three times for 13 yards before going down. He was seen on the sidelines using crutches in the second half. Now, his 2020 campaign is officially over. James Franklins weekly news conference beginning now. It seems like present-day politics is just an extension of the middle school playground, with insults and nose-thumbing galore. But if we take a look back at the history of the presidency, we gain some perspective. The ability to insult the president, guaranteed by the First Amendment, has been part of the nation’s politics since the founders, who were referred to as “a muttonhead” (George Washington), “a repulsive pedant” (John Adams), and a “brandy-soaked defamer of churches” (Thomas Jefferson), among other things. Here are my nominees for the Top Twenty presidential insults, ranked on freshness, snark, imagery, and staying power.  20. “A chameleon on plaid”—That was how President Herbert Hoover referred to successor Franklin Roosevelt and his changing positions. 19. “Woody Allen without the humor”—Former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan, describing Donald Trump’s self-involvement. She also referred to Trump as a “drama queen.” 18. “Judas Johnson”—Before presidents were compared to Hitler, there...

RACINE, Wis. (CBS) — The first debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic rival former Vice President Joe Biden will be held in Cleveland, Ohio Tuesday night, but the presidential race could hinge on the swing state of Wisconsin. Some experts believe our northerly neighbor’s results could ultimately be the race’s deciding factor. As CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov reported, one reason is that voter turnout is always high. General election voter turnout in Wisconsin is usually around 70 percent – one of the highest in the country. But there are also many other reasons why Wisconsin could end up being the key battleground state. “I think people are excited about the fact that we really could be the state that decides the presidency,” said Republican strategist Mark Graul. It is an opinion shared by many election watchdogs such as Graul – a belief that Wisconsin, a historically politically...
President Trump’s refusal to commit to a peaceful transfer of power should he lose the November election has brought into national focus a handful of contested congressional races that would ultimately determine who our next president will be. One of those races is between Democrat Alan Cohn and Republican Scott Franklin for Florida’s 15th Congressional District, held by outgoing U.S. Rep. Ross Spano, a Republican. Republican Scott Franklin, left, and Democrat Alan Cohn, right, are competing to represent Florida's 15th Congressional District.  (votescottfranklin.com; alancohnforcongress.com) As it stands, Florida’s delegation consists of 14 Republicans and 13 Democrats. A victory for Cohn would hand Democrats a majority in Florida. In the case of a tied presidential election, the matter would be decided on by a vote from the House of Representatives, in which each state gets one vote irrespective of the size of its delegation. A simple majority, 26...
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Ravens fans have had September 28 circled on their calendars for months, and while they won’t be allowed inside M&T Bank Stadium, the excitement isn’t going anywhere. At Mother’s Federal Hill Grille Monday, fans Mac Franklin and Coleman Tirone were decked out in Ravens gear to support their team for what some are calling the game of the year. “You got to beat the best to be the best. We’ve lost to them two years in a row,” Tirone said. “It’s unfortunate we don’t have any fans there today but I know Lamar says he has one goal in mind and it’s bigger than the MVP. He wants to win it all.” Franklin predicted the Ravens will come out on top 35-28. Tirone expects the score to be closer: 30-27. “I think Marcus Peters gets a pick with 30 seconds left to seal the game,” Franklin said....
Evangelist Franklin Graham is leading a prayer march Saturday in Washington, D.C. that will seek God's healing for a nation in crisis. "I think our country is in trouble, and Democrats will tell you that, Republicans will tell you that. ... We're coming today to call upon the name of God, because I believe only God can fix the problems that we face in this nation today," Graham said on "Fox & Friends Weekend" ahead of the march. Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse and the son of the late Billy Graham, organized the 1.8-mile Washington Prayer March 2020, which starts at the Lincoln Memorial at noon and ends at the steps of the Capitol. FRANKLIN GRAHAM REFLECTS ON 'ABSENCE OF GOD' AT DNC AHEAD OF DC PRAYER MARCH "My prayer is for healing -- that Jesus Christ, God's son, as a nation we would turn our eyes back to him. You know, 150 years ago, your pastors, the churches, were the political leaders in every community," Graham told co-host Pete...
Could Micah Parsons return to Penn State now that the Big Ten is playing a football season? James Franklin isn’t shutting the door entirely. What a week it has been for Big Ten football fans, especially those who love their Penn State Nittany Lions. That’s because the Big Ten has reversed course and there will be a 2020 football season coming this fall. The schedules are still being made at the time of this writing. While James Franklin and his coaches are undoubtedly fired up to get their players back on the gridiron, could more breaking news end up making its way to the program soon? Moving forward, all eyes will be on Micah Parsons to see if the All-American linebacker ends up returning to the team. When asked about that possibility this week, Franklin certainly left the door open for that potentially happening. A cryptic tweet from Parsons on...
Rev. Franklin Graham commemorated the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and urged Americans young and old to never forget the victims, their families, and heroes who rushed in to save others. He also asked patriots to pray for the current state of the nation, expressing his belief that “only God can fix the problems we’re facing.” “19 years ago today, 19 terrorists attacked this nation in the name of Islam, taking the lives of nearly 3,000 American men, women, and children,” he said on Friday. “Our nation was shocked to the core by the horrific actions perpetrated by these enemies of our country and those behind them. None of us will ever forget where we were at the moment we heard the news. It’s a day I certainly will #NeverForget,” he continued, citing a portion of President Trump’s Proclamation on National Days of Prayer and Remembrance:...
The Federalist’s co-founder Ben Domenech appeared on Fox and Friends Thursday morning to rail against the “new woke standard,” making the bizarre argument that since Founding Father Benjamin Franklin was not an advocate for LGBTQ rights, it will forever be difficult to stay woke. The publisher also attempted to rip into Democratic nominee Joe Biden for not standing up to new young “wokesters,” as he referred to the more progressive wing of the Democratic party. “Well, I think that the real critique of Joe Biden isn’t that he is going to tear down the Washington monument, it’s that he is too weak to stand up to the people within his own coalition who want to do exactly that and that’s what we saw from D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and this commission, that went through and found all these different problematic entities, problematic historical figures, where various things were named after them,”...
A Washington, D.C., committee commissioned by the mayor has recommended renaming  dozens of schools, parks and government buildings and “removing, relocating or contextualizing” eight memorials including the Washington Monument. The namesakes of the properties in question have ties to “slavery, systemic racism and other biases,” the panel said. The White House criticized the recommendations as “ludicrous.” “As long as President Trump is in the White House, the mayor’s irresponsible recommendations will go absolutely nowhere,” said Kayleigh McEnany, the president’s press secretary. The task force DCFACES was formed in July by Mayor Muriel Bowser and charged with reviewing “the legacy of namesakes … to ensure the individuals’ personal and public policy views did not contribute to the nation’s history of slavery, systemic racism and other biases.” In a 24-page report issued Monday, the working group recommended renaming 49 buildings and spaces, including those named after Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Woodrow...
Interior Secretary David Bernhardt fired back at Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser on "The Story" Wednesday after a commission sanctioned by her office targeted several federal monuments to “remove, relocate, or contextualize." "My first thought is that no one -- no one -- will be removing or renaming the Washington Monument or the Jefferson Memorial," Bernhardt told host Martha MacCallum. "None of that is going to happen. It's just simply nutty." The list includes monuments and buildings named after historic figures like former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Woodrow Wilson. The list also includes Founding Fathers Benjamin Franklin and George Mason, inventor Alexander Graham Bell and "Star-Spangled Banner" composer Francis Scott Key. Aretha Franklin was born on March 25, 1942 and died on August 16, 2018 In the 1930s and into the 1940s, a legendary group of Black women were born whose voices changed music history across multiple genres and around the globe. They broke records in music sales, garnered a plethora of industry awards, and more importantly, their songs became part of our collective psyche. You can call them divas, or torch singers, or soul singers; to me they are music royalty, rightfully dubbed Queens and Ladies and Empresses. Again, they excelled in multiple genres, including the blues, gospel, jazz, R&B, pop, and rock. They dove into pain and heartbreak, love lost, and betrayal—and then swooped you up and soared with the soulful joy of a heavenly host. We sang with them, we danced with them, we marched with them, and we were changed by them. There are far too many superb songstresses to feature in just...
In a conversation with News Brig, Franklin was eager to address some of these questions. And even when he declined to provide specifics, he laid out an ambitious — and in some ways surprising — vision for the BlackBerry of the near future. The original plan, according to Franklin, was to build the “the most secure phone out there.” That’s the sort of angle that opens doors, but doesn’t usually translate to mass-market success. Over time, however, the team’s priorities came to include productivity, as evidenced by the number of times the word plastered on the OnwardMobility website. For now, the specifics are still shrouded in secrecy; Franklin wouldn’t elaborate on the new BlackBerry’s  features apart from noting that the phone will pack “tons of unique experiences” and “security propositions.” Still, that newfound focus on getting things done helped widen the project’s scope considerably.  While OnwardMobility is eager to push...

Leilah Franklin and Chandler Kennedy don’t call themselves “activists.” In fact, the longtime friends from Santa Monica seem completely uneasy with the word. There are rules for white allies, after all — and chief among them is to not steal the spotlight from Black people fighting the good fight against racial injustice. And yet, as I watch protesters from every imaginable background continue to descend on the streets of American cities each week, I can’t help but wonder if that rule is, or even should be, as hard and fast as it once was. Who gets to claim the label of activist and who doesn’t? Is it just for the venerated few, such as the late John Lewis, who risked his life for voting rights in Selma, Ala., in 1965 and spoke at the first March on Washington before joining Congress? Or also for people like “Naked Athena,” the...

The most recent report regarding COVID-19 outbreaks from the Colorado Department of Public Health, dated July 1, revealed that new entries had nearly doubled from the previous week. But among the 25 freshly identified locations associated with the spread of the novel coronavirus, one stood out: It was described only as an "adolescent gathering in Telluride." Turns out it was a party in the well-loved mountain town that attracted more than thirty teenagers, one of whom subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 — a diagnosis that triggered a multifaceted response from the San Miguel County Public Health department. The approach used by department staffers to track and trace other potentially infected attendees mirrors the one codified in the new Protect Our Neighbors program, which calls for targeting outbreaks in ways that stop the spread, before they can affect the community as a whole. The CDPHE considers a facility an outbreak after...

Graham wrote, delivering a message specifically to protesters. “For those who kneel in protest to the American flag, I would remind them that this flag has been defended by Americans of all races—and it represents the UNITED States of America, not the divided states of America,” he said. “And may God continue to bless this flag and the nation it represents.” Happy Independence Day! “I’m in Eastern Ontario. Thousand Islands. Great Lakes. Doing what everyone else is doing in North America—trying to stay inside as much as possible,” Dan Aykroyd said on a phone call in April. Technically, he was outside at that moment. Aykroyd was walking around his family’s farm in Canada, which has the luxury of space and the drawbacks of weak cell service and several unfortunate incidents involving Aykroyd’s mouth and some wayward gnats.  This summer marks the 40th anniversary of one of Aykoyd’s most famous and famously chaotic movies, The Blues Brothers. An outgrowth of the blues band Aykroyd and his co-star, John Belushi, played in on Saturday Night Live, the movie follows two brothers, Jake and Elwood, on a mission to raise $5,000 for the Catholic orphanage that raised them, encountering a series of blues and R&B all-timers en route—Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Cab Calloway, and...

Jesse Franklin, who has worked for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office for 14 years, was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault, which is punishable by up to six months in jail, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The inmate, Nick Ballachino, was taken to jail on June 9 after being arrested on charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated and obstructing officers. A scuffle took place during processing, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters, during which Ballachino bit Franklin's boot. Video footage showed Franklin then kicked Ballachino in the head.
