The usual response, when Iran’s well-practiced chant leaders bark rhythmic recitations of “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!” is for the crowd to noisily repeat the chant. But politics in Iran are poisonously divisive, especially now, just four months before a crucial presidential vote and amid the frisson of a new U.S. president aiming to return America to a nuclear deal his predecessor discarded. At stake in Iran is which political faction will be able to take credit for any deal that lifts sanctions and delivers a thriving economy, without suffering the humiliations of outgoing President Hassan Rouhani, who has been pilloried for trusting the United States. Mr. Rouhani had once raised Iranian hopes of openness and prosperity, banking on the 2015 nuclear deal and engagement with the West, only to watch those dissolve into hopelessness as more U.S. sanctions crippled the economy. So in Isfahan, in a parade...

Ann Arbor Public Schools declared a “Virtual Snow Day” before a Monday night storm despite already operating virtually. Jeanice Swift, superintendent of the Michigan district, sent a notice to parents canceling online classes Tuesday, well before the first flake fell: I am sure that you are aware of the significant snow event coming to southeast Michigan overnight. With a snow storm arriving, and the forecast calling for snow, high winds, slick roads, and potential power outages, this would typically be the time when we would make an inclement weather day announcement. … As this COVID pandemic continues, stress is high and wellness is more important than ever. Snow days are opportunities for children, young people, and adults to play in the snow, read books, take a break, and enjoy the winter season. JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – Colorado’s second-biggest school district is actively working to return students to in-person learning. The district does not yet have a date for the return. (credit: CBS) In a statement to CBS4, Jeffco Public Schools Executive Director of Media Relations & Public Information Cameron Bell confirmed the goal. The return, however, is contingent on the availability and delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine to teachers. That process started on February 8th, when educators and school staff were first eligible to receive the vaccine. Bell noted that the district hoped to get the official date out to the community as soon as possible. The Board of Education held a study session last week on the topic, including discussions on data supporting a return to in-person learning for secondary schools and other contingencies needed to return all students to the classroom.

Prince George’s is the only Maryland county that has not released a school-reopening plan, but that will change Wednesday afternoon. District CEO Monica Goldson said she will give an update on in-person learning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Parents and teachers had been waiting for an update after a school board meeting was canceled last week. And as with many other districts, there has been trepidation about any plans to bring students back for in-person learning. The teachers’ union in Prince George’s County said key safety measures must be met before teachers and students return to their classrooms. In an open letter to members, the Prince George’s County Educators’ Association said the school system has not yet addressed its request to invest in facility upgrades — specifically, air-filtration systems in every room where there are students and teachers. Board of Education Chair Juanita Miller and Vice Chair Sonya Williams issued...
On Monday, actor Chad Brannon teased his General Hospital fans with a fun Instagram post. Just days after reports indicated that he was returning to the soap opera in some capacity, he confirmed that via a few photos at the studio. As The Inquisitr detailed last week, Brannon reportedly would be popping back up on General Hospital again in a few weeks. He was slated to begin filming a few days ago and it looks as if that happened right on schedule. For now, General Hospital sources are not revealing any juicy spoilers regarding the reason for Brannon’s return. He previously played the character of Zander, but that ended in 2004. Zander was killed by police, so it would seem tough to bring him back from the dead. Of course, crazier things have happened. One popular theory among General Hospital viewers is that Brannon will be back as Zander but...

After winning his seventh Super Bowl, Tom Brady should be magnanimous and return the $960,855 Paycheck Protection Program loan his sports performance and nutrition company received to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, says a new Change.org petition. The petition has so far gathered more than 142,000 signatures. The Massachusetts-based author acknowledged that Brady deserves all the riches he has amassed during his NFL career, but the petition said Brady shouldn’t have taken the PPP loan, which was designed by the federal government to help struggling small businesses keep workers employed during pandemic lockdowns. “By accepting this money, he is playing the government no better than any grifter would play a person on the street,” the petition reads. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has reportedly made up to $350 million during his NFL career and accepted a two-year $50 million deal when he signed with the Buccaneers last March,...
Repeated copies of a proposal called RISE — Retirement Income Security for Everyone — have arrived in my email, accompanied by endorsements from some serious people. After the third or fourth time, I felt compelled to take a closer look. The proposal supposedly would eliminate poverty and income inequality in retirement for all future generations of Americans. The description also notes that “The program would be completely self-funding. No cost to the government or taxpayers.” Based on the write-up and two short videos, this is my understanding of how the proposal would work. The Treasury would issue EE Bonds of roughly $6,000 for each baby born in a given year. The money raised by these bonds would be invested and earn a return of 7.27% — the return assumption of state and local pension plans. A 0.4% fee for administrative expenses presumably would be deducted from this assumed return....

As of Monday, these Wild players were still in the COVID protocol: Brad Hunt, Carson Soucy, Jonas Brodin, Cam Talbot and Victor Rask. At one point, the Wild had 13 players on the COVID list. The Wild are 6-5 this season. Only the New Jersey Devils, who also had a long break caused by COVID, have played fewer games.   More On WCCO.com: Downtown Mpls. A Northern California billboard sign calling for students to return to in-person learning has sparked backlash from teachers and others in the community as several schools remain closed amid the coronavirus pandemic.  The billboard, paid for by a group of Sonoma County parents, reads, “Missing All CA Students, last seen 3/13/2020,” according to San Francisco’s ABC affiliate station, KGO.  The sign, which reads like an AMBER Alert, has prompted criticism from teachers who have been forced to adapt to teaching students and managing classrooms online over Zoom and other video conference platforms. Kiyoko Nakano, a local teacher, told KGO that she “was a little bit shocked,” by the billboard.  “It is offensive to teachers for what we are doing," she said, adding, "What they don't understand is I am working four times as hard as when I was in the classroom." Precisely, due to the additional work for the distribution of the second stimulus check, the IRS decided to delay the start of the proceedings for that date. By Abdulrahman al-Ansi SANAA (Reuters) - Bakers in the Yemeni capital Sanaa have swapped diesel and gas for firewood due to fuel shortages to keep making bread in a country where hunger is widespread after years of war. Each day workers unload tonnes of wooden logs from trucks that have travelled hundreds of miles from Yemen's remote mountains to Sanaa's biggest wood market. The growing firewood business is a stark reminder of Yemen's environmental problems which have been eclipsed by war and disease. It also puts more pressure on forests already damaged by the cultivation of the chewable stimulant qat. "We used diesel before, then we moved to gas because of the blockade...then gas was cut off, so we moved to firewood," said Ali al-Shebeely, a bakery owner in Houthi-controlled Sanaa. RICHMOND. Va. (AP) — Virginia House Democrats have unveiled legislation that would require school districts to offer at least some access to in-person learning by the 2021-2022 school year. The bill says districts must provide either fully in-person instruction or a combination of in-person and virtual instruction to each student. It would also offer a fully virtual option for families who want one. The measure has the support of House leadership and Gov. Ralph Northam. Virginia currently has a patchwork approach to schooling, with some public and private schools offering in-person learning but others offering only virtual school. Reuters February 15, 2021 0 Comments  Iran said on Monday it will block snap inspections by the U.N. nuclear watchdog from next week if other parties to the 2015 nuclear deal do not fulfil their obligations, a challenge to U.S. President Joe Biden’s hope of reviving the accord. “If others do not fulfil their obligations by Feb. 21, the government is obliged to suspend the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said. “It does not mean ending all inspections by the U.N. nuclear watchdog…All these steps are reversible if the other party changes its path and honours its obligations,” he said, alluding to the United States. The Biden administration aims to return the United States to the nuclear deal, which his predecessor Donald Trump abandoned in 2018. They are not relapses is that the immunity provided by the first epidemic, in a certain number of people, is not sufficient to protect against viruses which are close but a little different “. By FRANCES D'EMILIO, Associated Press ROME (AP) — When Giuseppe Conte left the Italian premier’s office over the weekend, Chigi Palace employees leaned out the windows to warmly applaud him after his more than 2 1/2 years at Italy's helm. His spokesperson turned teary-eyed. But that’s hardly likely to be Conte’s last hurrah in Italian politics.
