The Biden administration announced Tuesday that it is further increasing the weekly vaccine shipments the federal government sends to states.  The White House’s COVID-19 response team announced that states will now receive 14.5 million doses starting next week, a jump from 13.5 million.  The team tweeted that the figure is “an increase of almost 70% since we took office just over a month ago.” White House press secretary Jen PsakiJen PsakiTanden's path to confirmation looks increasingly untenable Asian Pacific American Caucus urges senators to confirm Tanden Biden to order flags to half staff to mark 500K virus deaths MORE said Tuesday that White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff ZientsJeff ZientsThe Hill's Morning Report - Biden on COVID-19: Next year Americans will be 'better off' Overnight Health Care: CDC study says double masking works | House Democrats propose multibillion-dollar COVID-19 relief package | Industry groups back ObamaCare reforms proposed by Democrats The...
Dr. Anthony Fauci on Wednesday had a message to Americans – urging them to "get vaccinated" against the novel coronavirus when they become eligible. "When your turn to get vaccinated comes up, get vaccinated," Fauci said. US ADMINISTERING 1.7 MILLION COVID-19 VACCINE DOSES DAILY, WHITE HOUSE SAYS "It is not only good for you, and good for your family and your community," he continued. "It will have a very important impact on the dynamics of the outbreak in our country." The White House on Wednesday announced that the U.S. is now averaging 1.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered daily – up from an average of 900,000 shots per day one month ago. The latest data reflects an increase of 200,000 doses from the week prior. The Biden administration struck deals to purchase another 100 million doses each of the Pfizer and Moderna coronavirus shots on Thursday, increasing the U.S. vaccine supply by 50%. “That means lives will be saved,” President Biden said at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. “That means we're now on track to have enough supply for 300 million Americans by the end of July.” Biden had previously announced at the end of January that his administration would buy additional doses. “These purchases will allow us to accelerate our vaccination efforts to get shots into the arms of the American people,” said Norris Cochran, acting secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Biden did not offer a timeline for deliveries to hospitals and vaccination centers where people who are eligible, depending on each state’s rollout plan, to get the shots. Most states have already...
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The White House announced Tuesday retail pharmacies will receive direct shipments of 1 million doses of COVID vaccines next week. That is welcome news for local officials as they’re trying to increase the number of people getting shots. Finding a COVID vaccine should be getting a little easier with a growing number of retail pharmacies soon to be offering shots. People over 65 and those with medical conditions qualify to be vaccinated along with frontline workers. But Philadelphia is still limiting vaccinations for people under the age of 75. Philadelphia will open new mass vaccination clinics on Feb. 22. The locations have not been announced yet but people would be invited after signing up on the city’s vaccine interest website. “We are trying to do this fast, trying to do it in a way that will save the most lives and we’re trying to do this with racial equity,”...
By Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar | Associated Press WASHINGTON — The Biden administration will begin providing COVID-19 vaccines to U.S. pharmacies, part of its plan to ramp up vaccinations as new and potentially more serious virus strains are starting to appear, the White House said Tuesday. Coronavirus coordinator Jeff Zients said starting next week some 6,500 pharmacies around the country will receive a total of 1 million doses of vaccine. The number of participating pharmacies, and the allocation of vaccines, are expected to accelerate as drugmakers increase production. Drug stores have become a mainstay for flu shots and shingles vaccines, and the industry is capable of vaccinating tens of millions of people monthly. “This will provide more sites for people to get vaccinated in their communities,” said Zients. The partnership with drug stores was originally announced by the Trump administration last November. At that time, no coronavirus vaccines had been approved....
As Senate majority leader during Donald Trump's presidency, Mitch McConnell made the confirmation of federal judges a top priority for Republicans. The Kentucky Republican's efforts helped fundamentally alter the nature of the federal judiciary, pushing it in a more conservative direction. Now, a bit over a week in office, President Biden is getting the chance to start to reverse big Republican judicial gains, or at least chip away at their massive edge. Five federal judges, with lifetime appointments, announced retirement plans after Biden's inauguration last week. On Tuesday, two other U.S. district judges announced plans to take senior status. All told, eight judges had already announced plans to step down. Biden, a former Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, has 46 district court vacancies and three appeals court vacancies to fill. But the former vice president and 36-year Delaware senator has a long way to go in matching the Trump administration's...
Have the Monday blues? Well, here’s some good news! The Biden administration announced Monday that it is working to “speed up” efforts in redesigning the $20 bill to feature Harriet Tubman. While a timeline has not yet been announced by the Treasury Department, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced the plan during a press conference in which she was asked if the new administration would pick up the initiative. “It’s important that our notes, our money … reflect the history and diversity of our country, and Harriet Tubman’s image gracing the new $20 note would certainly reflect that," she added. "So we’re exploring ways to speed up that effort." The movement to have women on U.S. currency began years ago with grassroots organizations including Women On 20s, Daily Kos reported. Efforts to redesign the $20 bill to include Tubman and replace Andrew Jackson were announced during the Obama...
WASHINGTON (AP) — With a change of administrations, it looks like Harriet Tubman is once again headed to the front of the $20 bill. Biden press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday that the Treasury Department is taking steps to resume efforts to put the 19th century abolitionist leader on the $20 bill. Obama administration Treasury Secretary Jack Lew had selected Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson, the nation’s seventh president, on the $20 bill. But Tubman’s fate had been in doubt since the 2016 presidential campaign based on critical comments by then-candidate Donald Trump, who branded the move “pure political correctness.” Trump administration Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin did not move forward with the decision by the Obama administration. Instead, Mnuchin in 2019 announced a delay in redesigning the $20 bill in order to redesign the $10 and $50 bills first to improve security features to thwart counterfeiters. The unveiling of the...

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — President Joe Biden on Wednesday signaled plans to place a temporary moratorium on oil and gas lease activities in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge after the Trump administration issued leases in a remote, rugged area considered sacred by the Indigenous Gwich’in. The plans, along with other proposed executive actions, were announced on a fact sheet by the new administration on Biden’s inauguration day. Issuing leases had been a priority of the Trump administration following a 2017 law calling for lease sales, said Lesli Ellis-Wouters, a spokesperson for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Alaska. The agency held the first lease sale for the refuge’s coastal plain on Jan. 6. Eight days later, Ellis-Wouters said, it signed leases for nine tracts totaling nearly 685 square miles (1,770 square kilometers). However, the issuance of the leases was not announced publicly until Tuesday, President Donald Trump’s...
Iran expects the next U.S. administration under President-elect Joe Biden to unconditionally return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal as originally negotiated by President Barack Obama, Iran’s Ambassador to the U.N. said Friday. Majid Takht Ravanchi revealed a confident Iran has already received positive signals from the inbound Biden administration. “We have heard from the Biden team a number of positive remarks regarding the JCPOA and the return of the United States to its obligations based on it,” Iran’s U.N. envoy told the semi-official IRNA news service. He further said “it’s too early to judge exactly what the next dwellers of the White House will do,” but added Tehran “is not in a rush” and Biden will be given time to align his policies with those of Iran. As Breitbart News reported, U.S. President Donald Trump kept a campaign promise back in May, 2018, when he announced his decision...

The Trump administration is preparing to get rid of Air Force planes used for surveillance after exiting the Open Skies treaty with Russia, complicating President-elect Joe Biden options if he seeks to rejoin the accord, according to a report. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday announced the withdrawal from the decades-old treaty that allowed nations to conduct unarmed surveillance flights over each other’s territories. Now the Trump administration is moving to jettison the specially equipped OC-135B planes used in the Open Skies flights, the Wall Street Journal reported. The planes have been designated as “excess defense articles,” meaning they can be given or sold at steep discounts to allies, the report said, citing a senior US official. “We’ve started liquidating the equipment,” the official said. “Other countries can come purchase or just take the airframes. They are really old and cost-prohibitive for us to maintain. We don’t have a...
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday praised the Israel-United Arab Emirates peace deal announced by President Trump, but credited efforts of the Obama-Biden administration for the “historic step.” Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed released a joint statement Thursday after Israel and the UAE agreed to normalize relations. TRUMP ANNOUNCES 'HISTORIC PEACE AGREEMENT' BETWEEN ISRAEL, UAE The statement said that the “diplomatic breakthrough” was at “the request of President Trump,” and that Israel will “suspend declaring sovereignty over areas outlined in the President’s Vision for Peace and focus its efforts now on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.” The former vice president praised the move as “a historic step to bridge the deep divides of the Middle East,” calling the UAE’s offer to “publicly recognize...
