CNN anchor Anderson Cooper compared President Trump to a dictator just days after he expressed regret for his over-the-top rhetoric.  Trump is continuing to wage legal battles in several battleground states to challenge the results that handed President-elect Joe Biden a victory last week, but that hasn't sat well with Cooper, who slammed the president Monday night.  CNN'S ANDERSON COOPER REGRETS COMPARING TRUMP TO A FLAILING 'OBESE TURTLE' "In the mid-90s, I think it was '96, I was in Kinshasa in the waning days of Mobutu and Mobutu was, you know, a pretty awful dictator and when he finally fled the country and the rebels were moving in to take the capital, his son drove around in a pickup truck with a machine gun and settling scores with people he felt had not been supportive enough for Mobutu," Cooper said to the panel. "Thankfully, it hasn't come to that here...
During the COVID-19 pandemic, finding gigs is even harder than usual for artists, with budgets getting thinner at galleries, museums and companies willing to spice up their advertising with actual art. Which makes Denver artist Tony Ortega's hot streak amid the chaos even more impressive. Known for colorful works that embrace his cultural heritage, Ortega recently was feted at the opening of the twentieth-anniversary Día de los Muertos exhibit at the Longmont Museum, on display through January 9, which honors the Mexican holiday and several of his family members. Ortega has also managed to find a supportive industry that isn't facing financial crisis during the pandemic, partnering with cannabis edibles company Ripple to display his Día de los Muertos art on several of the company's packages through the fall. A small portion of profits off the products featuring Ortega's art will be donated to an organization of his choice: RedLine Contemporary...
A California neighborhood has decked out their sidewalks with 'Black Lives Matter' murals and messages in chalk in solidarity with a mother and her three-year-old daughter after their BLM art was repeatedly erased by a white man. In late July Manette Sharick and her three-year-old daughter Zhuri drew 'Black Lives Matter' in chalk on the sidewalk outside their Concord home for several days. But by the following morning the word 'Black' was mysteriously erased.  One day Sharick's home security camera caught the culprit - a white man named Jim who poured water over the word to wash it away.   Sharick filmed the moment she confronted Jim as he used a water bottle to pour water on the chalk message and warned he'll continue to remove the word 'as long as she keeps on doing this.' 'I was only pouring across the word black because I believe all lives matter,' Jim...
I do know Donald extra years than most individuals are alive. We met 1971. I’ve flown alongside him in his non-public jet when he was working sizzling. I’ve flown forward of him in a cheapo home flight seat when he wasn’t working sizzling. I’ve flown on his helicopter with Roy Cohn. Been to his marriages, houses, lodges. I do know him. Name it happenstance, serendipity, marriage, friendship, no matter — however for a few years I’ve sat ringside and seen, heard and smelled all of it. And I bear in mind. That is to state — not what I really feel, imagine or suppose — what I do know. When Donald and Cohn had been nearer than Biden and his caregiver, I used to be there. Proper there. I heard, I noticed, I understood. I do know when Donald’s sister Maryanne grew to become a decide, Donald was supportive....
I know Donald more years than most people are alive. We met 1971. I’ve flown alongside him in his private jet when he was running hot. I’ve flown ahead of him in a cheapo domestic flight seat when he wasn’t running hot. I’ve flown on his helicopter with Roy Cohn. Been to his marriages, homes, hotels. I know him. Call it happenstance, serendipity, marriage, friendship, whatever — but for many years I’ve sat ringside and seen, heard and smelled it all. And I remember. This is to state — not what I feel, believe or think — what I know. When Donald and Cohn were closer than Biden and his caregiver, I was there. Right there. I heard, I saw, I understood. I know when Donald’s sister Maryanne became a judge, Donald was supportive. Very supportive. Knowing Maryanne’s capabilities — Holyoke, Columbia, Hofstra grad — Roy was supportive. Very...
A photographer who was sympathetic to Black Lives Matter and who had been documenting protests in Louisville, Kentucky, was shot and killed in a protest camp Saturday night when one protester fired into the camp, allegedly due to a conflict with another protester, the Courier Journal reported. Tyler Gerth, 27, was reportedly shot in the face as an innocent bystander when Steven Nelson Lopez showed up at the protest camp and fired his gun into the air before shooting into the camp. Other armed bystanders returned fire at Lopez, shooting him in the leg and preventing further potential casualties. Lopez had been a participant in the Louisville protests for at least the previous 12 days, having been sighted there multiple times by protesters and reporters. He has been charged with murder and first-degree wanton endangerment. Other protesters said Lopez had been escorted away from the camp multiple times leading...

Editor’s note: This story is part of the annual Mosaic Journalism Workshop for Bay Area high school students, a two-week intensive course at journalism. Students in this year’s virtual program report and photograph real stories under the guidance of professional journalists. On the surface, the Silicon Valley Urban Debate League is an organization that teaches students about public speaking, leadership and political affairs. But beneath the official training and activities there are many other benefits, including providing mentorship, emotional support and a sense of community to many lower-income South Bay students.
