We’ve dealt with a lot in 2020. Between the election, the pandemic, the fires, and everything else this year has heaped on us, most people don’t have the capacity to worry about much else. But an Arizona woman dubbed a “Karen” has made it a goal to stop her neighbors from smoking medical marijuana—in their own home. Hide The “Karen,” whose real name is Renee Moore, claims that the smoke coming from her neighbors’ apartment is triggering her health issues. Her neighbors, who hold medical marijuana cards, are within their legal rights to smoke in their own residence—which is exactly what the property management company and city code enforcement staff told Moore when she complained about the smoke. Hide That didn’t stop Moore, however, who turned her attention to state-wide efforts to legalize recreational marijuana use. She claims that she’s experienced a range of health issues, which include...
Facebook shut down accounts and pages tied to a China-based disinformation campaign on Tuesday aimed at influencing the 2020 election. Hide Unlike Russia’s wildly-successful influence operation in 2016, however, the Chinese failed spectacularly at exacerbating the current political divide. Hide The campaign looks to have been fairly small. In a press release, Facebook revealed that it removed 10 accounts and five pages that were U.S.-centric tied to the Chinese operation. They were part of a broader “coordinated inauthentic behavior” campaign focused primarily in Southeast Asia and the Philippines. “We found this network as part of our internal investigation into suspected coordinated inauthentic behavior in the region,” Facebook said. “Although the people behind this activity attempted to conceal their identities and coordination, our investigation found links to individuals in the Fujian province of China.” Facebook added that the U.S. network of accounts and pages: “gained almost no following.” Hide...

Leonardo DiCaprio — who these days is often spotted with a vape (above) — fretted about his image, and didn’t want his mom to know that he smoked when he was still an up-and-coming star, Page Six is told. Photographer Steve Eichner — whose new book, “In the Limelight: The Visual Ecstasy of NYC Nightlife in the ’90s,” chronicles the 1990s club scene in pictures — told us that DiCaprio made a deal with him one night in 1994 at Club USA during a party for the Nicolas Cage-Dennis Hopper thriller “Red Rock West.” At Peter Gatien’s legendary club venue, Eichner said he got a shot of Leo — who would have been about 20 at the time and had just starred in his dramatic movie breakout, “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” with Johnny Depp — buying something from a “cigarette-and-candy girl,” but he couldn’t tell what. “[Leo] came over...
After playing the DC superhero Cyborg in Batman v Superman and Justice League, Ray Fisher has spoken several times about trouble behind the scenes—particularly involving director Joss Whedon. Back in July, he accused Whedon of “gross” and “abusive” behavior during reshoots, and he’s commented in more general terms about racist discrimination in Hollywood. Now Warner Bros. has launched an investigation into Whedon’s conduct, but Fisher says the studio is trying to discredit him “to continue protecting those in power.” Hide Over the years, there have been various reports and rumors about Whedon’s behavior, including his ex-wife alleging psychological abuse and affairs with young actresses on Whedon’s TV shows, along with Whedon’s mistreatment of actress Charisma Carpenter when she was pregnant and starring on Angel. Actor James Marsters also spoke about a physical altercation where Whedon was angered by the popularity of Marsters’ character Spike in Buffy. And two of Buffy’s...

Hide @margaritaevna95 The responses from Art Twitter were swift and defended van Gogh’s style. After years in distribution hell, New Mutants is finally making its way to theaters. And while most audiences—nearly every critic—have yet to see the film, director Josh Boone is addressing one of New Mutants’ longstanding criticisms. Hide In New Mutants, Brazilian actor Henry Zaga plays Roberto da Costa, a mutant also known as Sunspot who gets super strength by absorbing solar energy. But many fans have objected to Zaga’s casting almost from the beginning and have called out New Mutants for whitewashing the character because, in the Marvel comics, Roberto da Costa is Afro-Brazilian, the son of a white woman and a wealthy Afro-Brazilian businessman. And the whitewashing of the character is an issue that isn’t unique to New Mutants. Hide In an interview with io9, Boone is asked directly by Charles Pulliam-Moore about the criticism over Zaga’s casting. He referenced the widespread casting search for a Brazilian actor to...
