Maybe it goes up by $5 or $10 more from here," Kerry Craig, global market strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, told CNBC's "Street Signs Asia" on Friday. New York City could see up to 10 inches of snow on Thursday as well as some sleet and freezing rain on Friday in what is the latest blast of winter weather to hit the Big Apple.  The snowfall is likely to begin at around sunrise on Thursday morning, with the heaviest precipitation beginning at around noon.  New York is still recovering from the massive blizzard that dumped some two feet of snow in some parts of the tri-state metropolitan area earlier this month.  The Northeast United States has largely been spared the deadly winter weather currently battering a large chunk of the center of the country, but a storm packing snow, sleet, and ice will make its way eastward over the next 36 hours. School closures may do little to reduce the spread of coronavirus, a new modeling study suggests. Researchers found that preventing in-person learning only lowered the number of infections among young people by four percent in New York City. By comparison, social distancing of the entire population in public places lowered the number of cases and deaths by as much as 50 percent.  The team, from City University of Hong Kong and the Institute of Automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, says its findings show how cases and fatalities can be  achieved 'without the need for so much social disruption.' Researchers from Hong Kong and Beijing looked at the impacts of the closures of various types of facilities, including schools, workplaces and public facilities in New York City in 2020. The Reddit group WallStreetBets has been inflating GameStop's share price in a battle against traditional hedge funds, which had taken out massive short positions on the assumption that GameStop's stock would go down. New York Yankees sign another pitcher to shore up their depth By: Andres Chavez January 21, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditJust a few days after adding fellow starter Corey Kluber on a major league contract that will pay him $11 million in 2021, the New York Yankees made a low-profile signing that could, eventually, have some upside. The Bombers signed right-handed pitcher Asher Wojciechowski to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale broke the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon. The Yankees keep adding necessary depth pieces to their rotation, as their current group is talented, but not without question marks. The deal will pay Wojciechowski a $750,000 salary if he makes it to the big leagues, per Nightengale. The hurler is 32 and had a 6.82 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 31/15 K/BB ratio in 37 innings...
A shameless MAGA mobster who smoked weed in Senator Jeff Merkley’s office last Wednesday, posed with cops afterwards and claims his Bumble profile has 'blown up' since he uploaded the photos to it is planning to return to the Capitol for another protest and has still not been arrested.  Brandon Fellows, 26, drove from upstate New York to DC in a mini-bus where he sleeps to attend the riot last week after Trump tweeted about his rally, that was planned for the same day.  He was emboldened by the President's claims and along with thousands of others, stormed the Capitol, breaking windows and threatening Capitol cops as they made their way inside.  Once in the building, he got to into Senator Merkley's office where he put his feet on the table and took two drags from a joint that was handed to him by another rioter.  All of this went on...
Two officers with the Capitol Police have been suspended for joking around with rioters during the storming of the Capitol on Wednesday - one taking a selfie with the Trump supporter, and the other putting on a MAGA hat and showing the rebels around - and a third member of law-enforcement arrested for alleged misconduct, a congressman said on Monday, as it emerged a total of 15 Capitol Police officers are being investigated. The selfie moment was captured by journalist Timothy Burke, and posted to Twitter in a tweet now retweeted 233,000 times, and 'liked' 220,000 times.  News of their suspension was confirmed by Tim Ryan, an Ohio representative who chairs a House panel probing last week's events.  A Capitol Police officer who posed for a selfie with a rioter (above) has been suspended Instead of repelling the intruders from the building, the officer hung out with them 'I...

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Get ready to chill this weekend as another cold front is set to easily push all the way through South Florida Friday. Overnight Thursday, the front is moving south through the Florida Peninsula. And as of midnight, it was located just northwest of Tampa. Showers have been developing ahead of and along the front and should hold together putting a chance of showers in the forecast Friday morning. The breeze continues early Friday out of the south and even southwest, which will make for a mild to even warm morning. The front is south of the area Friday afternoon taking the clouds and showers with it but the chilly breeze remains just to our north throughout the afternoon. “It’s not uncommon for there to be a delay between the showers associated with the front and the colder breeze,” said CBS4 Meteorologist Dave Warren. “If this is timed...
James Turgeon, 33, (pictured) was arrested on Sunday after allegedly broadcasting an unsettling evacuation warning from his truck as he drove through Rutherford County, Tennessee The driver of a box truck who was arrested after allegedly broadcasting an unsettling evacuation warning in a Tennessee town just two days after a similar vehicle was used in the Nashville Christmas Day bombing has been identified.   James Turgeon, 33, sparked fears of a possible copycat attack on Sunday when he allegedly drove through Lebanon, Tennessee, playing a recording 'similar to what was heard' before an RV exploded in downtown Nashville on Friday morning.  The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said Turgeon was booked on two counts of felony filing a false report and one count of tampering with evidence.  Turgeon was driving his truck from Rutherford County into Wilson County when police pulled him over on Highway 231 South, about 30 miles east...
The carrot was a first cup semifinal in 16 years. The opponent was a second-division club fielding a team mostly containing reserve players. This was Newcastle’s players’ big chance to give their disillusioned fans something to smile about, three days before Christmas. They blew it. A listless performance in a 1-0 loss to Brentford in the English League Cup quarterfinals left Newcastle facing up to another bleak season and its manager fearing the worst. “I have to accept what’s coming my way is part and parcel of being the manager of Newcastle,” Steve Bruce said. “The criticism is fully justified.” With the Brentford Community Stadium empty during the pandemic, Newcastle’s players were spared criticism from the team’s match-going fans at the final whistle. Instead, the backlash came over social media, with renewed calls for Bruce to be fired and questions to be asked about the direction of a northeast club...
(CNN)President Donald Trump is leaving Joe Biden with a mess. With just weeks to go before the President-elect enters office, Trump administration officials revealed several federal agencies, including the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, along with parts of the Pentagon, have been compromised in what could be one of the largest cyberattacks in US history. Sam VinogradHackers infiltrated SolarWinds, a software company based in Austin, Texas. When SolarWinds' customers -- which include government agencies and more than 400 of the top Fortune 500 companies -- downloaded new versions of the targeted software, hackers gained access to internal networks and email accounts. It's an embarrassment that US cyberdefenses did not detect the cyberattack for months -- a cybersecurity company that was also a victim of the attack was the first to raise the alarm. While we still don't know the scale, scope, and impact of this attack, the...
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel used a “prayer” emoji on a social-media video he posted of his sandal-clad feet while sitting poolside, a day after the 49ers’ latest loss. Samuel’s latest injury: a foot contusion, though it’s not related to the June fracture that required surgery and kept him out until Week 4 this season. It will, however, keep Samuel out of Wednesday’s practice. Coach Kyle Shanahan made it sound like the 49ers are being cautious and still counting on him Sunday when they host Washington in Glendale, Ariz., where they’ve begun their second week of encampment after Santa Clara County’s ban on contact sports for COVID-19 prevention. Last week, the 49ers also kept Samuel out of their Wednesday practice to help a troublesome hamstring recover, and Samuel went on to play in Monday night’s 34-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Samuel made all his team-high six receptions...
Newly recordings have been released from Project Veritas that suggest CNN discussed deliberately avoided reporting the Hunter Biden/Ukraine controversy on purpose, when it emerged in the run up to the 2020 presidential election.  In leaked telephone conference calls of the news network's 9am editorial meetings, CNN boss Jeff Zucker can be heard instructing his staff to downplay the bombshell story. The story, which was first revealed in the New York Post, revealed emails that allegedly came from Hunter Biden's laptop and shed light on questionable foreign business dealings he had both before and after his father was vice president. Project Veritas founder James O'Keefe secretly recorded CNN President Jeff Zucker's editorial meetings 'for months' and intends to release recordings every day until Christmas CNN political director David Chalian can be heard telling Zucker that the news network would not be covering the story.  'Obviously, we're not going with the New...
Gov. Gavin Newsom poured another $62 million into his waning Project Roomkey program Monday, part of an ongoing effort to prevent any of the more than 22,000 homeless Californians sheltering in pandemic hotels from ending up back on the street. The money, which comes from the state’s Disaster Response Emergency Operations Account, will go to counties that have put up homeless Californians in hotels during the pandemic. The emergency cash injection comes as the pandemic hotels are starting to close in the Bay Area and beyond. The bulk of the funds — $35 million — will go toward rehousing Project Roomkey residents. That money is for rental subsidies, case management, housing navigation and landlord incentives, and other housing expenses. Another $24 million will help prop up the existing Project Roomkey program, allowing residents to remain in their hotel rooms until they can obtain permanent housing. The last $3 million will...
DENVER (CBS4)– Business owners say Denver’s new home at 10 p.m. order while better than a full shutdown, is still a blow to their operations. He’s been there since the opening last July and while he loves his job, he says it’s become increasingly hard to hold on to. “I’m not making nearly what I used to… me just making my rent is a struggle, picking up odd jobs during the day isn’t what I ever thought I had to do,” he said. Phil Collins may have to wait up to three years to have his ex-wife evicted from his mansion because of a backlog of trials due to Covid-19, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal. Collins sought an injunction to have 46-year-old Orianne Cevey and her toyboy husband Thomas Bates, 31, kicked out of his palatial waterfront $32 million home in Miami Beach, Florida. But the singer, 69, suffered a major setback when Orianne made a counterclaim for $20 million - more than half the value of the house - and a county judge decided the explosive case should be heard in circuit court because of the huge sums at stake. The development puts Collins' filling at the back of a long line of pending cases with court closures and pandemic restrictions expected to delay jury trials by a year or longer. The British rock star - worth an estimated $300 million - will...

Jaime Harrison and Lindsey Graham debate earlier this month. What seemed just about impossible a year ago could be a very different story today. The Cook Political Report on Wednesday called the South Carolina Senate race between Republican Lindsey Graham and Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison a “toss up.” For real. “Even Democrats in and outside of the Palmetto State are surprised such a typically red state is truly in play,” The Cook Political Report said. “Harrison has made this race about character and in other Democratic ads they turn the tables and paint Graham as part of the ‘swamp,’ and that seems to be working.” And Lindsey deserves it—no other Republican shed their skin and showed their true colors quite like this one-time Trump critic turned sycophant. Let’s send Lindsey Graham home. Give $2 right now to kick Sen. Mitch McConnell and his caucus of Trump enablers to the curb. The Cook Political...

The Islanders’ fourth line continues to live up to its name despite another loss By: Rob Taub September 10, 2020 ShareShareTweetThere’s a reason the New York Islanders are known for having the “best fourth line in hockey”. They simply cause havoc and can change the dynamic of a game. It was evident once again last night in the team’s crushing 2-1 loss in game two to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Needing a big-time start, following just an embarrassing effort in game one Monday night, Islanders’ head coach Barry Trotz deployed the Matt Martin, Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck (a game-time decision) trio early in the game. And what did they do, they came through as advertised. Martin, who had just five goals the entire regular season, got the Islanders an early lead when he chipped one over Andrei Vasilevskiy’s shoulder off...
Serial killer the 'Interstate Strangler' - who terrorized the nation's highways murdering up to 52 women in a two decade-long spree - has confessed in a podcast interview to another murder 15 years ago, leading cops to find suspected human bones in Illinois.   Dellmus 'Heavy' Colvin, 61, claimed last week on the 'Where the Bodies are Buried' podcast that he killed a woman at a truck stop along Interstate 80 outside LaSalle County before dumping her naked body round the back of a now-closed truck wash in Peru. A search Wednesday uncovered two small pieces of bone at the alleged burial site which are now being analyzed by forensics to determine if they are human, authorities said.   Colvin, who bragged that he 'slept great' after his first murder, is currently behind bars in Ohio serving two life sentences after confessing to the murders of seven women. The serial killer stalked...
Before the last US election in 2016, I was a rather lonely voice in consistently suggesting Donald Trump might win. In fact, I was regularly mocked, derided, abused and dismissed by ‘serious’ political pundits for even suggesting such a preposterous notion. Democrats were so certain Hillary Clinton would triumph they never saw the Trump Train steaming towards the White House until it ran them over at the ballot box. Well, not ALL Democrats. One of the few to agree with me was filmmaker Michael Moore, one of the most vocal liberals in America. When Li-Meng Yan was asked to pop into her boss’s office on the final day of last year, she had no idea such a routine summons might be the start of events that would lead to her fleeing her family, her work and her country in fear for her life. Her professor asked her to find out what she could about a mysterious cluster of virus cases that had erupted in the Chinese city of Wuhan – and through her medical and scientific contacts she claims to have stumbled upon a cover-up of epic proportions. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden called on President Donald Trump on Wednesday to take decisive action on the COVID-19 pandemic before he tees up for “yet another round of golf,” ABC News reported. In a statement, Biden slammed Trump’s response to the pandemic, which as of this writing has infected at least 3 million people in the U.S. and has claimed over 135,000 lives. Biden specifically and directly blamed Trump’s purported inaction for those figures. “Today’s awful — and avoidable — news that America surpassed three million COVID-19 cases is yet another sad reminder of the cost our country is paying for President Trump’s failure to lead us through this crisis,” Biden said. In the past few weeks, 37 states have reported an increase in COVID-19 cases, and 28 states have reported an increase in hospitalizations. Meanwhile, several states, such as Texas and Florida, are rolling back their reopening plans...

To say people in Seattle are getting sick of the rioters and protesters who took over several city blocks to create what is now called the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, or CHOP, is an understatement.
