week and shop:

The Texas lawyer who went viral with his Zoom kitten filter this week was previously at the center of a search warrant and drugs raid on a smoke shop belonging to a woman who says she was his former lover. Attorney Rod Ponton, 69, was involved in a 2014 raid on The Purple Zone, a hookah bar and smoke shop in Alpine, Texas, when he was working as District Attorney of Brewster County.  The shop's owner Ilana Lipsen, as well as her mom and sister, was arrested on charges around the possession of illegal synthetic marijuana in the raid where her sister and a DEA agent both accused each other of assault. Lipsen pleaded guilty to first-degree felony manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance over products seized in a 2012 raid in exchange for the 2014 charges being dropped against her family. However, the case and charges were mired in controversy as testing...
A MUM-of-16 has revealed what “just popping to the shops for bread and milk” looks like in a new jaw-dropping photo.  Jeni Bonell and husband Ray, from Queensland, are proud parents to nine sons and seven daughters, aged between six and 31. 9Jeni Bonell and husband Ray, from Queensland, have 16 kids, and popping to the shops is not a quick taskCredit: Refer to Caption Jeni, 51, revealed she often does a whopping supermarket shop at the start of the week, which usually costs AU$450 (£251). Sometimes these supplies only last the super-size family half the week, and Jeni is forced to return to the shops to stock up on essentials like bread and milk.  Her latest “quick shop” was six bottles of 3L milk, three loaves of sliced bread and an array of fresh fruits and vegetables. She also bought 2kg carrots, four punnets of strawberries, two punnets of...
Former President Donald Trump reemerged this week after staying relatively quiet since leaving office, but that doesn't mean he's spoken to President Biden. Before leaving the White House, Trump left a letter for Biden in the Oval Office. Biden promised on his first day to keep the note private until the pair had spoken and Trump provided consent for its release. "I don't have any update. I don't have any calls to report on. There are no calls to report on, I should say. And I don't have any update on the letter," White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Friday. Trump launched his post-presidency office this week and met with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to discuss plans on how Republicans can take back the House and Senate in the 2022 midterm elections. During Friday's White House briefing, Psaki said Biden would sign his immigration executive orders next...

A shopper uses his phone while wearing a face mask due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic outside the Christiana Mall in Newark, Delaware U.S. November 19, 2020.Mark Makela | Reuters Black Friday is almost here. And consumers' anxiety about shopping in stores and enclosed malls is only escalating, as Covid-19 cases surge across the country, making for a holiday season where far fewer people pitch tents in parking lots to snag doorbuster deals. Fifty-seven percent of consumers said they're anxious about shopping in stores over the holidays because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a poll released Monday by Deloitte, which surveyed 1,200 adults from Oct. 9 to Nov. 2. That's up from 51% in September, when Deloitte last asked the same question. "My guess is that percentage is probably even higher now," said Rod Sides, vice chairman and U.S. retail, wholesale and distribution leader at Deloitte. The pandemic...
The RiNo neighborhood just welcomed a new addition to its coffee scene; Lekker Coffee opened in the former Hotbox Roasters space at 3460 Larimer Street on October 1. Mother and daughter Dawn Kaprielian and Kara Finkelstein take the name RiNo seriously— and literally— as their cafe seeks to raise awareness about  endangered rhinoceroses, a cause to which they donate ten percent of all their coffee shop's sales. In 2017, Finkelstein quit her corporate job to travel around Europe but ended her trip with a six-week stint in South Africa. While there, she volunteered with the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, an organization that rescues baby rhinos whose mothers have been poached. After returning to Denver, she moved with her husband to RiNo and felt it serendipitous that her new neighborhood shared a name with the creatures she'd just spent time learning about and caring for. She decided to take it as an opportunity...

Accompanying Tyler, nine, on his grocery run, Emma Travers revealed that he managed to do his entire shop for just £7.54 - which included enough food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. 4Tyler, nine, did his entire weekly shop for just £7.54Credit: Facebook The proud mum took to Facebook to show off Tyler's thrifty shop which included a range of fruit and veg, plus some other pantry essentials. Emma said that her son 'caught the yellow sticker bug' and bagged £33.55 worth of food for a fraction of the price - and even picked out tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots himself. After restaurants were allowed to reopen their dining rooms on May 26, Illegal Pete's took its time getting back to the burrito business. All of the company's locations had shut down completely (not even offering takeout or delivery) on March 17, so Denver was more than ready when the Illegal Pete's at 270 South Broadway became the first in the chain to re-open on June 18 — just in time for founder Pete Turner's birthday. The remaining locations have since followed suit, and now an entirely new Illegal Pete's has also opened its doors at 2230 Oneida Street in the Park Hill neighborhood. This is Turner's twelve restaurant overall and the seventh in metro Denver. And like the other outposts, the newest is open for patio dining (the dining room will remain closed initially) as well as takeout and delivery. Another Denver fast-casual original, Chop Shop Casual Urban Eatery, just...

A MUM-OF-19 has revealed she spends £2,600 a month on the food shop - and does 18 loads of laundry every week. Karen and Deon Derrico, from America, have four sets of naturally conceived multiples, including quintuplets and triplets. 10Karen and Deon Derrico have 14 kids - including quintuplets and triplets - all conceived naturallyCredit: TLC Appearing in a preview for new TLC series Doubling Down with the Derricos, Karen admits they spend £2,678 ($3,500) a month "easy" at the supermarket. Their huge shopping hauls include 20 rolls of toilet roll and 15 packets of waffles every week. Having a big family certainly doesn't come cheap, and the Derricos spend a fortune to keep everyone well fed.  As they welcome TLC's cameras into their home, Karen, 40, reveals: "The amount of money that we spend on groceries, oh my gosh. $2,500 (£1,913) to $3,500 (£2,678), easy." 10The family have opened up...
A MUM-of-16 has shared her food shopping tips as she admits she spends £360 a week on groceries - which fills four trolleys.  Tiffany and Benji Nelson, from America, are the proud parents of 16 kids, ranging from 22-years-old to five-months-old.  8Tiffany and Benji Nelson have 16 children and regularly share their hectic family lifeCredit: Not Enough Nelsons/Youtube Tiffany documents their hectic family life on their YouTube channel, Not Enough Nelsons, as she revealed what her family eats in a week - which can sometimes cost £399. She claimed she has to shop weekly, as any more and it wouldn’t fit in their kitchen cupboards.  The mum has a clever system for ensuring she doesn’t waste any time in the supermarket, as she writes her shopping list according to the store’s layout.  Chatting in a YouTube video, she said: “I only shop for about one week’s worth of groceries because...
BUCKTOWN — The last day to purchase meats from the Vienna Beef Factory Store in Bucktown will be July 3, according to a Facebook post. To celebrate the “end of an era,” the factory will have a 4th of July sale beginning Friday. “Throughout the years, we’ve loved seeing you all visit and take pictures at our Factory Store & Café on Damen,” the post said. “While we’re excited for the future, we’re sad to announce that July 3rd will be its last day of business. It truly is the end of an era.” The Vienna Beef factory, 2501 N. Damen Ave., is moving out of its longtime Bucktown home and will be replaced with Drive Shack, a $40 million driving range complex. The 102-bay climate-controlled driving range was initially questioned by neighbors but won City Council approval this year. It will include a restaurant, bar and...
