Tiger Woods has told authorities he doesn’t remember the rollover crash that landed him in a hospital with metal rods and pins in his leg. But the SUV he was driving does. Like other modern cars and trucks, the Genesis GV80 that Woods was driving when he crashed was equipped with an electronic data recorder and other computer hardware meant to serve as a digital witness of sorts — filled with information investigators can use to piece together the seconds before and during the accident. The devices are part of a broader array of safety technology built into many newer vehicles. Vehicles in the Genesis line — Hyundai’s luxury brand — for example, also feature artificial intelligence software that keeps a watchful eye, sending alerts if it detects the driver is distracted or closes his or her eyes while driving. It was not surprising, then, that as part of their...

The Five co-host Greg Gutfeld critically questioned the media about devoting hours of airtime on the Tuesday morning car crash by Tiger Woods. During a segment where Fox News dipped out of ongoing live coverage of the accident, the panelists weighed in on the news about Woods. According to "HowStuffWorks.com," the "jaws of life" is technically a trademarked brand of tools. However, the term "jaws of life" more generally refers to hydraulic rescue tools that are used in difficult situations like catastrophic crashes.   TIGER WOODS INVOLVED IN LOS ANGELES CAR CRASH, FIRST-RESPONDERS NEEDED 'JAWS OF LIFE' TO REMOVE HIM The "jaws" can include three components -- cutters, spreaders, and rams. Rams similarly separate sections of a car but do so by pushing both sides of an object apart from each...

Julie Palmere, 34, of Monson, and Tisha Verge, 36, of West Springfield, have been arrested and charged with illegal dumping of trash over 7 cubic-feet, operating after suspension, and use of a motor vehicle without authority, police said. Verge was also charged with operating after suspension, attaching the wrong license plates and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. The arrest was the result of a sting operation. After receiving complaints about trach being dumped in the woods, Monson police investigated and discovered that all the garbage was coming from someone who had been advertising trash removal services on a Facebook group. The police posed as customers looking for trash removal and were able to make an arrest.
Friday Night SmackDown superstar Xavier Woods reacted on Monday to the recent comments from CM Punk and Booker T suggesting that his longtime New Day stablemate, Big E, should ditch the faction and drop his erstwhile comedy gimmick. As quoted byWrestlingNews.co, the second part of Woods’ interview on the Battleground Podcast, which aired on Monday, saw the wrestler address the issue of Big E potentially leaving the group he’s been with since 2014. After admitting that he feels it’s “great” that people are passionate enough to discuss the topic, he said that he hasn’t had the time to truly think about the possibility, especially since he’s currently “burning the candle at both ends” while recovering from the Achilles tendon injury that sidelined him last year. In addition, Woods mentioned that the friendship shared by all three faction members will always come above everything else. This, he explained, is similar to...

Golf superstar Tiger Woods praised the Black Lives Matter movement as “fantastic” as he gears up for his first major golf tournament since the death of George Floyd. Woods described the movement as one that is creating positive change in the United States and said it will help the country “move to a much better place socially." “I think change is fantastic,” Woods said during a news conference ahead of the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. “As long as we make changes without hurting the innocent, and unfortunately that has happened — hopefully it doesn't happen in the future — but a movement and change is fantastic." “That's how society develops. That's how we grow. That's how we move forward. That's how we have fairness,” he continued. “Unfortunately, we've lost innocent lives along the way, and hopefully we don't lose any more in the future as we...
MARIN COUNTY (CBS SF) — Muir Woods National Monument will reopen to the public on Monday — one of the last sites in the National Park Service to welcome people back after closing because of the coronavirus. When the park is open and the summer is in full swing, there can be thousands of people lined up the entrance to Muir Woods. While the COVID-19 shutdown eliminated the crowds, come Monday they’ll be back. Muir Woods has been closed for more than three months, a closure that has prevented tens of thousands of visitors from around the world from seeing some of the largest trees on earth. Muir Woods was not among the Marin County businesses or locations forced to roll back planned openings on Monday due to the recent spike in local coronavirus cases. Golden Gate National Recreation Public Information Officer Charlie Strickfaden explained that the reopening comes with...

Sam Raimi’s original Evil Dead movie starring Bruce Campbell is one of the most influential horror movies of all time, coming to embody the ‘Clueless teens stuck in a remote cabin with murderous spirits’ trope for decades to come. In a new interview to discuss his upcoming book The Cool Side of My Pillow, Campbell has revealed that the franchise is now going to move away from that trope in pursuit of new storytelling angles, while also revealing that the original title for Evil Dead 4 has changed from Evil Dead Now to something the team feels is a bit better. “The official name is Evil Dead Rise. We’re getting a new draft in. I don’t think anything will happen until 2021. Full bore ahead, we’re very excited about it. A whole, new ballgame. No more cabin in the woods.” RELATED: Evil Dead 4 Director Opens Up, Bruce Campbell...
On Tuesday, actor James Woods took note of the apology that late night host Jimmy Kimmel offered for past actions that have been deemed racist, an apology that Kimmel twisted into an attack on his critics. Kimmel commenced his apology by writing, “I have long been reluctant to address this, as I knew doing so would be celebrated as a victory by those who equate apologies with weakness and cheer for leaders who use prejudice to divide us,” later continuing, “I know that this will not be the last I hear of this and that it will be used again to try to quiet me.  I love this country too much to allow that. I won’t be bullied into silence by those who feign outrage to advance their oppressive and genuinely racist agendas.” Woods, as usual taking no prisoners, fired back on Twitter by quoting Kimmel, then launching a verbal...
The FBI released more details related to its ongoing review of more than two dozen Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act applications, arguing the findings so far should “instill confidence” in the veracity of the claims made in those filings. The bureau, whose FISA process has come under heavy scrutiny following a Justice Department watchdog report pointing out 17 “significant errors and omissions” in the surveillance of Trump campaign associate Carter Page, responded to a follow-up DOJ audit which unearthed problems with other spy applications and led to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to order a deeper review. “On June 15th, the FBI and DOJ responded to an April 3 rd FISC order requiring additional assessments of the 29 FISA applications reviewed by the OIG as part of its ongoing audit of the FBI’s Woods Procedures,” the FBI said on Monday. “14 of the 29 applications have been thoroughly reviewed,...
PEBBLE BEACH LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON, shortly after he had turned the 100th U.S. Open into his own personal beach party, Tiger Woods was asked if he would allow himself a moment of reflection at some point during Sunday’s final round. The 18th fairway, perhaps. Assuming he had a commanding lead, of course. Woods gave the question some thought. “Ask me tomorrow,” he said with a broad smile. There was no need to ask. Woods, as it turned out, arrived at the 18th hole Sunday at 12-under par (tying a U.S. Open record). He led the tournament by 15 shots (setting a U.S. Open record), on his way to a four-round total of 272 (again tying a U.S. Open record). He hit a perfect drive, then a perfect approach shot. Then, as he waited for the group ahead to putt out, he walked over to the sea...
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — When it comes to Tiger Woods returning to the PGA Tour, it’s all about the calendar. Nothing raised hopes that he would be at Hilton Head like a website tracking yachts that showed his Privacy on its way to Sea Island off the Georgia coast, about 80 miles south of the RBC Heritage, this week. Woods played Hilton Head only in 1999 (he tied for 18th), but this is a different kind of year. Then again, it’s also the 13th birthday of his daughter on Thursday, and that’s likely what Woods was doing around Sea Island. But there’s more to the calendar, and there’s no need for Woods to be in any rush. True, the PGA Tour has been shut down since March 12 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone at Colonial was eager to get back to the competition, and some mentioned a...
FORT WORTH, Texas — As the Charles Schwab Challenge second round was being played at Colonial Country Club on Friday, rumors of whether Tiger Woods would play next week at the RBC Heritage were swirling. There was a report earlier in the week that Woods’ yacht, “Privacy,’’ had departed Jupiter Beach, Fla., where Woods lives, up the Atlantic Coast into Georgia. That fueled speculation that it might be headed to Hilton Head, S.C., where Woods would play the RBC. That’s not happening. Woods, who had until 30 minutes after the conclusion of Friday’s Charles Schwab second round to commit to the RBC, was not heard from. Next on the clock is the Travelers Championship, which Woods has never played. That takes place the week after RBC. Then comes the Rocket Mortgage Championship in Detroit, where Woods definitely won’t go since that was the sponsor that left his tournament in Maryland....
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — The field for the RBC Heritage next week includes 112 players who have won on the PGA Tour, the most of any event since the tour began keeping track in 2000. It just doesn’t have Tiger Woods. For the second straight week, the top five in the world will be competing as golf resumes its schedule from the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown that began in March. The Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial was the first event back, with protocols that included mandatory testing for players, caddies and essential personnel when they arrive. All 487 tests were negative. Rory McIlroy, the world’s No. 1 player, will be at Hilton Head for the first time since 2009. Brooks Koepka will be playing for the first time. Missing from the top 10 for the second straight week are Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott and Tommy Fleetwood, the latter two...
ATLANTA (AP) — For someone who grew up on the sandy beaches and the urban jungle that is coastal South Florida, camping — real camping, as I imagined it — was the stuff you’d see in movies: friends gathered around a fire somewhere in the woods, eating marshmallows and telling ghost stories or listening for bears. This childhood dream was never far from the imagination. Not while hiking the chaparral-covered Hollywood Hills when I called Los Angeles home, not while spending a weekend in New England when I worked in New York City. I realized, eight weeks into working from home, that if there was ever a time to go camping — real camping — this was it. I searched online for tents and faced questions meant to intimidate a novice. Is a four-person tent too small for two adults, twin 9-year-old boys and a dachshund? Do I need a...
Sonya Forte Duhé was all set to start her new job at Arizona State University as dean of the school’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, yet her job offer was rescinded after former students reached out to complain about some comments she made in the past they perceived as insensitive. In a tweet that now has been deleted, Duhé wrote, “for the family of George Floyd, the good police officers who keep us safe, my students, faculty and staff. Praying for peace on this #BlackOutTuesday,” The Washington Free Beacon reported. This tweet, along with the complaints from former students, cemented Duhé’s fate. One former student, Whitney Woods, responded to Duhé’s tweet by claiming there was “no way in hell that black lives matter to you.” Woods added, “You are one of, if not, THE most racist human that I have ever encountered in a professional setting.” Woods...
On Sunday, James Woods stated on Twitter that he would begin listing all the police officers who had died across the nation in the line of duty since the beginning of 2020. He wrote, “Starting today I’ll be listing police officers who died in the line of duty in 2020. Some will be from deaths seemingly unrelated. A cancer death, however, may have resulted from assisting during the World Trade Center rescue and aftermath, for example.” Starting today I’ll be listing police officers who died in the line of duty in 2020. MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) - Two nonprofit groups are teaming up with communities in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to properly dispose of old automobile tires that have been dumped over the years. The Superior Watershed Partnership and Great Lakes Conservation Corps plan to remove the tires, which contain chemicals and heavy metals that can pollute land and water, and haul them to the nearest approved recycling center, The Mining Journal reported. “Almost all communities in the Upper Peninsula have a scrap tire problem of some sort; tires illegally dumped in the woods, stockpiles of used tires or tires used for erosion control, etc. The problem is that most communities do not have the staff or resources to coordinate a tire clean-up project,” said SWP Special Projects Coordinator Mindy Kantola. When will we see him first? The PGA Tour is resuming its schedule — which has been halted since March 12 because of the coronavirus pandemic — with next week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Texas, and one of the pressing questions is this: When and where will we see Tiger Woods play next? Will Woods play one of the first four tournaments on the revised schedule — Colonial, the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head, the Travelers or the Rocket Mortgage — all of which will be played with no spectators? Or will he skip all four and make his return to action at the Memorial, which will be played the week of July 13 and is a regular stop on his schedule? “He’s the one enigma in all of this,’’ Michael Tothe, the Charles Schwab Challenge tournament director, told The Post this week. “We’d love to...
BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A Confederate soldier monument in Arkansas will be removed from a public space and relocated to a private park, according to a Monday announcement. The statue is owned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and has been on Bentonville’s downtown square since 1908 in an agreement with Benton County, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. The Arkansas Division United Daughters of the Confederacy agreed to move the statue after conversations with community leaders, according to the group’s press release.
