Fry’s Electronics — a big-box retailer that grew rapidly in the 1990s with a chain of giant and sometimes wildly decorated stores — abruptly announced that it’s going out of business. The San Jose, Calif.-based retailer said in a Wednesday statement it “has made the difficult decision to shut down its operations and close its business permanently as a result of changes in the retail industry and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.” The company — which for years had been battered by rising competition with Amazon before the coronavirus hit last year — had operated 31 stores across nine states, with many locations the size of a Walmart supercenter despite focusing only on electronics and appliances. Some stores were dressed up with quirky themes, including a Palo Alto, Calif., location that was decorated in an Old West theme with a steam engine inside and a Phoenix, Ariz....

CNN’s Brianna Keilar and Brian Stelter condemned Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) for targeting the media amid accusations that he severely undercounted the number of coronavirus deaths in New York nursing homes. Keilar began the segment by showing a clip from Cuomo’s press briefing on Friday, during which he railed against the criticism he’s been facing regarding the alleged coverup. Cuomo also said that he and his administration failed to combat lies and misinformation throughout the pandemic aggressively enough. “We did not aggressively enough take on the misinformation that caused people pain,” he said. “And it causes pain for families. And that’s what I regret. I’m not going to make that mistake again. If you’re lying to the people of the state of New York, I’m going to call it out. If you are lying in a report, I’m going to call it out. If you are lying in a newspaper,...
An Arizona man inspired to do good went to Texas, which has been storm-ravaged in recent days, to repair water-damaged homes. Jordan Orta, who owns Tru Grit Restoration, says he called a Texas property management company to see if they needed any help after the treacherous winter storm. When the company said yes, Orta began his 16-hour drive to Dallas, Texas, without hesitation, KSAZ reported. Orta said he could not stand by and do nothing after he heard about the storm’s impact on Texas and how people were being displaced from their homes. He is currently working on a flooded condo as a remnant of the storm that left hundreds of thousands without power and with severe water damage to their homes. “Really damaged from all the water, so just this one. But I’m sure, I’m sure there’s others around here that have the same problem. Getty Tristan Thompson of the Celtics In the NBA, where even relatively mediocre players are endowed with world-class athleticism and skills, comebacks are not uncommon. Big leads can evaporate in mere minutes, which is why coaches are often hesitant to completely pull their starters. But blowouts do happen, and when they do the winning team is usually afforded the luxury of resting its starters and giving its younger, less-prolific players a chance for valuable in-game experience.  Which is precisely what Boston Celtics center Tristan Thompson was thinking following Boston’s mostly-dominant 121-109 victory over the Atlanta Hawks Friday night. “It’s a good win, but we’re up 20, 22 points we got to close it out,” Thompson said to reporters after the game. “Those minutes, the last six minutes, those minutes are supposed to be dedicated to Tremont Waters, Aaron (Nesmith), Tacko Fall, Carsen Edwards. Those last six minutes are...

It was through the social network of short videos, TikTok, that Paola became the topic of conversation by Internet users for an action she carried out live and that she herself took it to another extreme due to her reaction: he had an unexpected sneeze. Perhaps in other times, I would not go beyond asking the audience for an apology and continuing as if nothing, however, we must not forget that we are in the middle of a pandemic, which has come to reinforce our hygiene habits. Although he covered himself, he was unable to do so with his forearm. Therefore, the presenter could not...

A California high school football player went viral on Twitter after voicing his frustrations with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s COVID-19 lockdowns that may have cost some their spot on a college football team.  "Zero offers, zero looks, zero commitments, zero time on campus, zero homecoming, zero prom, zero traditional graduation. What a wasted final year of school," tweeted Isaiah Navarro, who attends Paraclete High School in Lancaster, Calif., according to his bio.  "Worked hard and dedicated for absolutely ZERO. Big shout out to @GavinNewsom!  You got what you wanted," he continued.  While other western states have allowed players to return to the field, California football players remain on the sidelines and their hopes of a spring season wither away.  SAN FRANCISCO SUES SCHOOL BOARD OVER 'WOEFULLY INADEQUATE' REOPENING PLAN  "I know there are thousands in my shoes across this State. The shirt featured a racerback design to show off even more skin as it emphasized her toned arms and shoulders. “Russian Kim Kardashian,” aka Anastasiya Kvitko has just updated her Instagram page with a tantalizing new photo wherein she spotlighted her ample chest, and fans are not complaining one bit. The busty 26-year-old opted to ditch her bra, letting it all hang out in a skimpy front-tie top that exposed major underboob. The super revealing top was from online retailer Fashion Nova, which Anastasiya credited with a double tag in her post. It was made out of a stretchy, ribbed fabric that clung tightly to her bosom, emphasizing the model’s eye-popping assets. While its pastel-yellow color was certainly noteworthy as it looked flattering against her fair skin tone and complemented her chestnut-brown hair, what grabbed attention the most was the racy design. The skintight number tied in the upper part with two strings that framed her cleavage, opening widely toward the bottom to offer a generous view of her buxom...

Getty Los Angeles star LeBron James. Due to fans not being allowed to attend games back in California, the Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had a lot of chances to play in front of fans. What does it take to topple a villainous monarch? If the women of The Bachelor just taught us anything, it’s that sometimes the solution is as simple as calling her crappy attitude out to the right person. Matt James finally took the reins Monday night, after Katie Thurston tipped him off last week to the relentless bullying that has pervaded this season. It appears our Bachelor was ready to clean house. First he sent home Anna Redman, who last week started a ridiculous scandal in which she gleefully accused one of her fellow contestants of being an escort. (As if there’s anything wrong with that to begin with.) Then, after a revealing conversation with newly-arrived contestant Ryan Claytor, the moment we’ve all been waiting for finally came: Matt finally found out about “Queen” Victoria Larson’s bad behavior, and gave her the boot. And as the cherry on top, Matt finished...

Arlo Parks, “Collapsed in Sunbeams” (Transgressive) The first full-length album by Arlo Parks delivers on the promise of the intriguing pieces that have led some to tag her already as the voice of a generation, riding a gentle R&B retro-soul groove that soars with cinematic imagery. A 20-year-old child of West London, Parks counts an eclectic range of influences, from Nigerian Afrobeat artist Fela Kuti to Otis Redding, but a more tempting comparison is Sade, the British artist whose exotic looks, bass-driven melodies and smoky, accented vocals set her apart, mostly before Parks was born. That’s good company, and Parks has the elegance to pull it off. But typecasting has its limits, and Parks finds her own way on “Collapsed in Sunbeams.” Her depth lies in lyrics that grapple fearlessly with complicated subjects, an artist’s gift for imagery and a poet’s eye for detail. A song called “Caroline,” for...

Cardi B’s latest look is out of this world. Mark Harris, writing for IEEE Spectrum, has come out with a chilling report about how military testing is leading to confusion among pilots — and sometimes putting them in danger. The piece goes into why the US military is jamming GPS in American airspace and recounts some of the times it’s almost gotten civilians killed. If you’re a frequent flyer or are interested in when military testing bleeds into everyday life, it’s well worth the read. The military is carrying out the testing, ironically, to help develop technology to counteract GPS jamming. To be fair, it’s an understandable goal, as the article details the troubles that pilots face when a technology they heavily rely on goes away. But when that happens, the pilot at least has visual cues and other instruments. The article also goes into how, instead of completely cutting out the pilot’s GPS signal, the testing can end...

New York : Bill is the main dog in a video that has become popular on Facebookk in recent weeks. At you can see a man whose leg is in a cast, walking down the street with a pair of crutches and accompanied by a dog with a slight limp in one of its front legs. “I invested £ 300 in vet fees and X-rays and nothing bad happens to him. It is simply empathy. I want it, ”Russell Jones wrote in the post, which has been shared more than 28,000 times. Turns out Bill, a London Lurcher, has been mimicking its owner’s limp out of empathy, a behavior that can occur in animals such as dogs. TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — A proposal that would require more online sellers to collect Florida sales taxes and turn the money over to the state will appear Monday before the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee. The proposal (SB 50), filed by Sen. Joe Gruters, R-Sarasota, for the upcoming legislative session has gained support as state revenue has taken  a massive hit amid the coronavirus pandemic. Senate President Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, has highlighted the issue as one of the ways lawmakers can offset a projected $2.75 billion shortfall. Many out-of-state online retailers have not collected and remitted the taxes. “We use the honor system to collect those taxes,” Simpson said in November. “And I can assure you the honor system does not work very well. So it’s not a tax increase to pay the taxes you owe.” Similar past proposals, dubbed “Wayfair” bills after the online purveyor, have died as Republican lawmakers...
PITTSBURG (KPIX) — Dozens of commercial plate glass windows were smashed in downtown Pittsburg Sunday night, and the police have a suspect in custody. Just before midnight? Pittsburg Police responded to a call of a man smashing small business windows. One witness quickly identified, 41-year-old Donald Guenther. He was arrested at the scene. In a frustrating twist for business owners, this was his second arrest of the night. “Officers estimate the damage to about $10,000 worth of damage,” said Officer Kyle Dickson. One local business manager showed KPIX the rock that he says was one of many used by the suspect to smash windows. He predicts the repairs will take days. Starbucks was hit the hardest but the drive-thru is still open. Across the way at Al’s Donut Shop, Andrew Lu says his dad caught the vandal in mid act. “When it shattered, he yelled at the...
CNN’s Erin Burnett went on a tear Monday night against Senator Lindsey Graham for his continued defenses of President Donald Trump. Graham warned on Fox News this past weekend that the president shouldn’t pardon any of the Capitol rioters, but he went on to say impeachment would be divisive and that Joe Biden would be “weak” if he didn’t stop it and that Trump is “trying to heal the nation.” “He hasn’t even spoken live once,” Burnett said with some disbelief. “Have you looked at our nation’s capitol, senator? It looks like a war zone ahead of the inauguration because President Trump and his allies pushed baseless lies saying that the election was a fraud.” “And if you want to talk about weak, Senator Graham might want to look in the mirror, because definition of a weak figure in American history is this,” she continued, before showing a montage contrasting...
Getty Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. The Cleveland Browns were handed the biggest break of 2021 when Patrick Mahomes had to leave in their Divisional playoff matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. After making their first playoff game since 2002, Cleveland had every opportunity to get to their first AFC Championship game since 1989. A big reason why they ended up losing the game was a costly fumble by Rashard Higgins. Late in the second quarter, the Browns were driving and in a position to score before halftime. Unfortunately, Higgins decided to reach the ball out when he was diving towards the end zone and ended up fumbling out of bounds past the goal line, which caused a touchback and gave the Chiefs the ball back. They marched down the field and scored a field goal. Instead of going into halftime with a score of 16-10, the...
