The St. Louis husband and wife who were photographed pulling guns on a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters this summer have filed a lawsuit against the photographer who took the now-infamous images of them. The pictures showed the husband holding an AR-15 style rifle while his wife held a semiautomatic handgun, both of them waving the weapons at people who were walking past their home. The suit claims that the photographs contributed to “significant national recognition and infamy” for the McCloskeys, who claim that the man was trespassing in order to snap the photos. The legal filing also claims that the defendants are making “t-shirts, masks, and other items, and licensing use...

Danielle J. Lindemann July 11, 2020 7:29PM (UTC) The author of "The Baby-Sitters Club" book series, Ann M. Martin, was prolific.  She wrote dozens of books, many during the late '80s and early '90s when I fit snugly into her readership demographic.  For a while, she was publishing a new book every month, though my appetite for them still outpaced her creative output. I began to write all of my school essays in a derivative, bubbly style, irritating my mother who had been trying to get me into the classics.  When Netflix dropped a ten-episode series based on the books over the July 4 weekend, I was eager to plop down on the couch and press play. I was prepared to be gently clasped in the familiar, sentimental "The Baby-Sitters Club" world. I came for that, and the show did not disappoint. The references to "kid kits" and the sight of the light-up phone...

The St. Louis couple that brandished firearms at a group of protesters outside their home violated basic gun-safety rules — and narrowly avoided a “very disastrous result,” experts told The Post on Monday. “It seemed apparent they have a very limited knowledge of firearms safety and firearms handling,” said Charles Stephenson, a former FBI Agent and firearms instructor. Stephenson said that although husband Mark McCloskey wisely kept his finger off the trigger of his AR-15-style rifle, wife Patricia McCloskey took no such precaution as she wielded a silver-colored handgun. “The female had it kind of limp-wristed and it seemed she was actually pointing it at the individuals in the street,” he said. “To actually point the barrel of a weapon at somebody with your finger on the trigger…could have had a very disastrous result.” Stephenson, who runs the Orion Group private investigations agency in Overland Park, Kansas, also noted that...
A married couple brandished firearms at a group of protesters who marched through their upscale St. Louis neighborhood on Sunday night to call for the resignation of Mayor Lyda Krewson. The male homeowner stood barefoot on his Renaissance-style porch in the Central West End neighborhood while carrying a semi-automatic weapon at around 6 p.m. local time, while his wife pointed a pistol at the gathering. A video on Twitter showed the woman pointed the firearm at passing protestors while shouting. A protester wearing a t-shirt that read, “Hands up, don’t shoot,” then urges participants to relocate into the street in an attempt to diffuse the situation. The protesters were en route to Mayor Lyda Krewson’s home to demand her resignation after she released names and addresses of residents who suggested defunding the police department, reported KSDK. DOWNTOWN— For Heidi Zhang, books have always played a crucial part in her life. But the countless tales she’s read could not have prepared her for taking over The Dial Bookshop in the Loop in the middle of a pandemic.  “It is super rough because we’ve never ran a business or bookstore before. So a lot of the learning curve was already pretty steep in terms of like getting to know the wholesalers, websites to use and the timeline of things in general,” Zhang said. “And then, of course, the pandemic made it more difficult because we had to move all of our inventory online and it’s harder to do promotion that way.”  The store on the second floor of the Fine Arts Building at 410 S. Michigan Ave. is set to re-open on July 1st with limited capacity and other precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A glass...
