SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Casinos that fail to follow guidelines aimed at limiting the spread of the coronavirus could be disciplined, including loss of their license, Illinois regulators warned this week. Illinois allowed video gaming businesses and casinos to begin reopening on Wednesday. Marcus Fruchter, administrator of the Illinois Gaming Board, reminded operators in a message released Thursday that they must follow state protocols for operating during the pandemic. Requirements include face coverings in gaming establishments and casinos and social distancing along with regular hand washing, Fruchter said. Failing to comply could result in discipline, including revoked licenses, he said. “More importantly, disregard of such preventative measures and requirements could contribute to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Illinois and another potential suspension of gaming operations,” he said. “That is a result nobody wants. We urge you not to let it happen.” Copyright 2020 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This...
Because there hasn’t been video gambling since mid-March due to COVID-19 restrictions, state and local tax coffers are out more than $105 million dollars compared to last year, but those machines at your local pub can be fired back up soon. The Illinois Gaming Board is allowing casino and video gaming to resume starting Wednesday. Now in Phase 4 of the governor’s reopening plan, state Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, said video gambling machines are plugged in and ready to go. “Each day that it’s not turned on for video gaming, that’s money away from small business, local municipalities, and the state of Illinois,” Syverson said. “Three levels are all helped by turning video gaming back on. They’re all set. They’ve spent the money, they’ve made the investments, they’re ready to go.” Net terminal income for March through May of 2019 totaled more than $451.2 million. The...

Bet on it. Illinois casinos and video gaming operations will reopen on Wednesday, more than three months after the state halted legal gambling activities amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Illinois Gaming Board said every casino and video gaming terminal operator in the state was required to provide their own reopening plan to guide operations for when gaming resumes at 9 a.m. on July 1. Under the state’s guidelines, casinos must enforce six-foot social distancing requirements throughout their facilities; require customers and staff to wear face coverings; provide free masks and other personal protective equipment to employees; conduct daily health screenings of patrons and employees, and prohibit anyone who fails a health screening from entering; and set detailed schedules for cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing their facilities. Casinos also must designate a “pandemic response liaison” who will serve as their primary contact with the state regarding reopening plans, and assist public health...
