Joe Biden, D-Del., claimed he was arrested at the U.S. Capitol when he was 21 years old. … Recounting the details of the arrest – which apparently happened on a Saturday – Biden said had been visiting some friends at Georgetown University, and decided to visit Washington because he “was fascinated with the Senate.” “In those days, no guards stopping you everywhere. And they just got out of session. I walked in the back, all of the sudden I found myself in the chamber. I was stunned. I walked up, sat down in the presiding officer’s...

The parent of a Montgomery County Public Schools student is suing both the school system and the county police department following an incident in 2020 involving her Maryland child. Parent Shanta Grant, who filed the lawsuit, said her son was able to walk away from East Silver Spring Elementary last year without being noticed. She said once police found the boy, about two-tenths of a mile away, officers were verbally abusive, threatening, and even put a handcuff on the child once he was taken back to the school. In all, the situation lasted 50 minutes. When the incident happened in January of 2020, the boy was five-years-old. “If the allegations are true, this is reprehensible behavior,” said Montgomery County Council member Will Jawando in an interview with WTOP. Jawondo is an outspoken proponent of police reform who has called for police to be removed from inside schools. “It’s a failure of...

The British government wants police to hit the public with Covid fines after just one verbal warning, it has emerged, after video footage showing one woman being surrounded by officers for leaving her house more than once in a day and another having her hands cuffed behind her back for “sitting on a bench” circulated online. The push to “move through the gears” quickly and hammer supposed lockdown breakers with fines has been elaborated by Home Office sources helps explains the footage, which shows a woman at the seafront with an elderly companion being hectored by a large group of police telling her she has been recorded at various locations around town, and that people are only allowed to leave their homes for their daily exercise once a day for a set period of time. “[A]t the moment, you’re allowed out for exercise once a day,” badgered one of the officers...

Anthony McClain was hit with both shots fired by Pasadena Police Officer Edwin Dumaguindin, not just one as previously thought, an autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner revealed on Thursday, Sept. 10. McClain was killed nearly a month ago after he was shot in the back while fleeing from a traffic stop. Police officials have said he was holding a gun, a claim the family’s lawyers have contested. Dumaguindin fired two rounds at McClain; one hit him in the lower right quarter of his back. That wound was “immediately life threatening,” and ultimately led to McClain’s death, according to the autopsy report. The bullet hit McClain in the lower right back, traveled diagonally right to left and upward, striking McClain’s right lung before exiting from the right side of his chest, the report says. McClain died from blood loss at 9:46 p.m., about two hours after he...
Police stand guard as woman protests with a sign written "the only thugs I see are cops" the day after a Black man was shot by police causing outrage and local unrest in the city on August 24, 2020 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Scott Olson/Getty Images Police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin, have become the latest example of questionable use of force following a video that shows an officer shooting 29-year-old Jacob Blake in the back seven times while his three children watched from inside the car. The video, which was recorded Sunday, was not the first time the Kenosha police force was involved in a controversial shooting. In 2004, an officer in Kenosha shot and killed a 21-year-old man at point-blank range in the head, killing him, while his mother and sister watched from their home, as NPR previously reported. While officers were cleared of wrongdoing within 48 hours,...
The Viridian Fact Duty is a camera/light combo accessory that gives law enforcement a way to record everything their pistol sees, once it is drawn from the holster. The Fact Duty is activated by a magnet embedded in the officer’s duty holster. The magnet is located on the backside of the holster, and the Fact Duty’s camera and light go into action as the accessory passes over it. The camera and light go off once the Fact Duty passes over the magnet again, on the way back into the holster. The Fact Duty’s camera records audio as well as video, filling in gaps when body cam video is blocked due to an officer’s extended arm or when the body cam’s view is completely blocked because the officer is forced to take cover behind a vehicle, tree, or other substantial object. At the end of any given day’s shift, the...
A Morris County man with a history of drug use abused and threatened officers who were serving him with a warrant and restraining order, authorities charged. Adnan Smajlovic was found sleeping in a vehicle when authorities came to his house to serve him a warrant and restraining order around 12:40 a.m., June 27, Mansfield Township police said. He became belligerent when officers woke him up and informed him of the warrant, refusing to leave his vehicle, police said. Smajlovic had to be forcibly removed from his car and -- once in handcuffs -- continued to fight with officers, kicking and thrashing in the patrol car, authorities said. Smajlovic was then placed in leg restraints and continued to be abusive and threatening toward the officers until he was turned over to the Morris County Sheriff’s Department on their no bail warrant, authorities said. In 2017, officers in Rochelle Park discovered more...
