The International Federation (FIVB) tried to veto the use of the bikini during the women’s beach volleyball tournament to be played in Doha, but has finally had to back down due to the threat of boycott by two players. It is the German duo formed by Karla Borger and Julia Sude, that they have refused to play in “T-shirts and long pants” with high temperatures, as the Federation intended as a sign of respect for “local culture and tradition.” Qatar will house by for the first time an international beach volleyball tournament feminine (from March 8 to 12), therefore, the FIVB It intended to prohibit its participants from competing in bikini – common clothing – to adapt and respect “local culture and tradition.” In the Federation’s proposal it was that the players wear T-shirts and long pants, an outfit with which they have already competed on other occasions, but which...

REGENSBURG, Germany (AP) — Werder Bremen’s German Cup final against Jahn Regensburg is on the verge of being called off due to coronavirus infections among the second division team. Regensburg managing director Christian Keller said Monday that more infections among the players were detected following coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s positive test on Friday for COVID-19. Regensburg’s game against Paderborn went ahead Saturday as per the German soccer league’s protocols, but Sunday’s tests revealed that players were infected, too. Bremen said on its website Monday that it assumed Tuesday’s cup game will be called off. It was waiting for confirmation from the German soccer federation. ___ More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright © 2021 The Associated Press. COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — German hairdressers are protesting that the country’s soccer players look suspiciously well groomed amid the lockdown. A national trade association for hairdressers and barbers published an open letter to German soccer federation president Fritz Keller on Tuesday saying they believe many players have had recent trims despite salons being closed since Dec. 16. There are strict restrictions in Germany on visiting households during the latest lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic, leaving many ordinary citizens to choose between shaggy locks or uneven do-it-yourself cuts. But the association said it has seen players with “shaved partings, hair at the neck and temples trimmed down to a few millimeters, clean contours. Haircuts which only professional hairdressers with professional equipment could have done.” The association said the players’ actions are encouraging people to convince barbers to cut their hair illicitly at a time when most hairstylists are losing out on...

These five players must step up their game to make that happen.  2021 is shaping up to be a pivotal season for quite a few players on the Yankees roster. The franchise has legitimate aspirations of winning a World Series title. They’ll need career years from several key contributors on the roster to turn those dreams into reality. It’s obvious that big-name stars like Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole need to play well if the Yankees are going to enjoy a victory parade at the Canyon of Heroes. Yankees fans should keep a close eye on the following five stars as the players with the most to prove in 2021. Their performances this season could easily define their legacy with the team.5. Domingo GermanGerman’s 81-game suspension via MLB’s domestic...

Another German player tested positive and will remain in quarantine until Jan. 4. As Bob McKenzie of TSN tweets, the team is expected to have just two goalies, five defensemen and nine forwards available for those two games. Even past that the Germans will not have...

WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) — Wolfsburg reached the last 16 of the German Cup with a skeleton squad in a 4-0 win over second-tier Sandhausen on Wednesday after the coronavirus and injuries ruled out 11 players. Four Wolfsburg players missed out after positive coronavirus tests. Three more were in isolation because of close contact with their infected teammates. Coach Oliver Glasner named three reserve goalkeepers among his seven substitutes, with two of the keepers dressed as outfield players. Those emergency replacements weren’t needed as Wolfsburg cruised to a straightforward win with two goals from Wout Weghorst. Stuttgart beat Freiburg 1-0 in the only all top-division game of the day after holding on to the lead following Sasa Kalajdzic’s 15th-minute goal for the hosts. The result ends a successful 2020 for Stuttgart, which won promotion back to the Bundesliga and sits seventh in the table. Mainz is battling against...
ON THIS DAY IN 1846, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported, “SLEIGHING. — Cling! cling! cling-a ling! go the bells along the streets of Brooklyn this morning — the bells of the sleighs, which have ‘seized the opportunity by the hair,’ and are to be seen and heard, of all sizes and qualities, and in every street! The East Brooklyn omnibuses turn out some prodigious vehicles — large enough to carry quite all the ‘Natives’ of Brooklyn and New York (which, however, is not saying much for their size) … The sleighing, though, is not the best in the world. The wind drifted the snow too much yesterday; and this morning it melts some.” *** ON THIS DAY IN 1897, the Eagle reported, “The Skating Club of Brooklyn and the New Jersey Athletic Club hockey players opened the season for that interesting sport in this city at the Clermont Avenue Rink...

DÜSSELDORF, Germany (AP) — Even when the German national team wins, it can lose. Germany beat the Czech Republic 1-0 in a friendly on Wednesday but the average domestic TV ratings came in below “Cash for Rarities,” a show about selling antiques. The average audience of 5.42 million was the lowest for a prime-time men’s national team game this century. That’s unsettling for a country which prides itself on its passionate fan culture. The joy from winning the World Cup in 2014 turned to despair during Germany’s group-stage exit in 2018. Now apathy reigns amid a mediocre Nations League campaign. Part of the problem on Wednesday was that the team was anything but antique. Germany coach Joachim Löw picked a youthful squad and gave seven regulars, including Manuel Neuer and Toni Kroos, time off to recover before upcoming Nations League games. New faces like PSV Eindhoven defender Philipp Max and...

The malaise over the saturation of soccer calendars, derived from the suspension of months due to the pandemic, has unleashed a series of criticisms against those responsible for national leagues and international organizations such as UEFA and FIFA, due to the excessive physical demand of the players. This time, the German and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos complained about this demand that treats footballers as puppets and accused managers of not caring about the well-being of the athletes and only privileging the business. At the end of the day, we players are just the puppets of FIFA and UEFA with all these extra (skills) that they make up. They don’t consult anyone, Kroos said on the podcast show...
These Yankees’ players will get some much-needed action in the Dominican league By: Andres Chavez October 27, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditA trio of struggling, high-profile New York Yankees‘ players will use the winter leagues to restore some confidence and stay in competition shape with the 2021 campaign in mind. Enrique Rojas of ESPN.com reported that Toros del Este manager Lino Rivera confirmed catcher Gary Sanchez, infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar, and pitcher Domingo German as members of the team that will compete in the Dominican League (LIDOM.) Andujar is expected in the Toros’ training camp on Wednesday, per Rojas. The talented hitter had a rough season with the New York Yankees in 2020, slashing .242/.277/.355 with a .274 wOBA, a 71 wRC+ and only one home run. If everybody is healthy on the Yankees’ roster come 2021, there could be no place for the 2018 Rookie of...

The players then failed to participate in the game – allowing their opponents to walk all over them. According to Sky News: [SG Ripdorf/Molzen II Co-Chair Patrick] Ristow added: “When the game kicked off, one of our players passed the ball to the opponent and our team walked to the sidelines. “The Holdenstedt players did not understand. Champions League Bayern and PSG players expressed their joy in a very different way The final whistle sounded and joy erupted. In some contained and in others unleashed. Because PSG and Bayern Munich were two opposing examples of celebrating the move to the final of the Champions League. Neymar and PSG dance to the rhythm of Dipy The French celebrated it in style. They already started on the grass and continued in the locker room. So it could be seen in a video that Neymar published. In it the Brazilian and Mbappé appeared expressing their happiness. But it did not end there, but continued on the way to the concentration hotel. Neymar was once again the master of ceremonies ‘playing’ Dipy’s cumbia music. However, he could not leave tennis completely as he was just hired by Alexander Zverev. In a recent interview with Sportschau (Which was translated), Zverev talked about this partnership. He said, “When I was looking for another team member a few weeks ago, I had to keep thinking about David’s professionalism and...
DÜSSELDORF, Germany (AP) — When the Champions League and Europa League return next week amid the coronavirus pandemic, the teams remaining in the competitions will be resuming following a vastly different set of preparations. For Italian teams, it’s the last stretch in a packed schedule that included two games a week since June. The French league stopped in March, leaving Paris Saint-Germain to schedule friendlies before two domestic cup finals. When PSG faces Atalanta and Juventus plays Lyon in the Champions League, those contrasts will be tested. “It’s clear that the conditions aren’t normal,” Simon Rolfes, the sporting director of Bayer Leverkusen, told The Associated Press in a recent interview. “I think we have to accept that there are certain points where everything isn’t optimal or exactly the same, and that’s just the case because of the pandemic. Obviously, it isn’t the equality in competition that you’d normally wish for,...

BERLIN (AP) — Germany will have two summer transfer periods this year – the first for just one day. The German soccer federation said on Monday it was reacting to the special circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic by allowing clubs more time to sign players for the coming season. Player transfers can be registered on July 1 for one day, then another transfer period will run from July 15 to Oct. 5. Usually transfers are possible from July 1 through Aug. 31. “We have made this adjustment together with the German soccer league and in coordination with FIFA,” federation vice-president Peter Frymuth said. The first one-day period is intended for players whose transfers have already been agreed with a July 1 starting date, though they will get a permit for only the 2020-21 season. The current season will not have been completed in full due to a two-month suspension...
