MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Marcus Garrett scored 14 points, Jalen Wilson added 11 and No. 23 Kansas beat Kansas State 59-41 on Wednesday night. The Jayhawks (16-7, 10-5 Big 12) held the Wildcats to a season low in points despite a ho-hum offensive performance. Kansas shot 46% (22 for 48) from the field and held Kansas State (5-18, 1-13) to 31% on 18-for-58 shooting. The Wildcats have lost a school-record 13 straight games and Kansas has won four straight games by double digits. The teams were abysmal from the 3-point line, with Kansas going 4 for 16 and Kansas State at 3 for 24, including two in the final minutes. The Wildcats got a boost from Dajuan Gordon, who scored a team-high 12 points. It was his first game since Jan. 30, when he left a game with a foot injury. With the Wildcats hanging around and...
PARIS (AP) — Saint-Etienne made it three games unbeaten in the French league but extended its long winless run after drawing wit Angers at home 0-0 on Friday. Saint-Etienne’s third straight draw follows seven straight losses, and the club’s last win was at Marseille in mid-September. Since then, coach Claude Puel’s gritty Saint-Etienne has netted just five times in 11 games and conceded 20. In a scrappy match of few chances, Saint-Etienne striker Denis Bouanga chested down captain Mathieu Debuchy’s pass over the defense and rifled home in the 18th minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside. Yvan Neyou had a shot saved in the third minute of injury time as Saint-Etienne came close to finally winning again. Angers is in seventh place and Saint-Etienne is 15th. If Marseille beats Monaco at home on Saturday, it will move one point behind league leader Paris Saint-Germain, with a game...
Florida State has had a home football game postponed on the day it was to be played for the second straight week. The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Saturday the Seminoles' game against Virginia would not be played because of COVID-19 issues within Florida State’s program. The game was to have started at 8 p.m. EST. Florida State athletic director David Coburn said after one positive test on Friday night, contact tracing — along with previous opt outs and injuries — left the team with only 44 scholarship players and some position groups “almost entirely depleted.” CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM “We deeply regret that many Florida State and Virginia fans have already traveled to the game as well as Virginia's team,” Coburn said. “We simply had no way of knowing we would not be playing until this morning. We made every effort to play, but we could not...
By RALPH D. RUSSO, AP College Sports Writer No. 5 Texas A&M postponed Saturday's home game against Mississippi over lingering problems with COVID-19 as the number of Bowl Subdivision games called off because of the virus climbed to five this week already. The Aggies will be idle for a second consecuive week after missing last weekend's visit to Tennessee. The Southeastern Conference, which has had eight games postponed this season, said the Texas A&M-Ole Miss game could be made up Dec. 19, the day of the league championship game and a week after the Aggies play the make-up game against the Volunteers. The SEC had four games called off last week, including LSU at No. 1 Alabama. Tigers coach Ed Orgeron said he expected most of the players missing last week to be back at practice by Tuesday as LSU prepares for Saturday's game at Arkansas. Among the other games...
The University of Wisconsin’s football team will not suit up for a second consecutive week due to an ongoing coronavirus outbreak within the program, school officials announced Tuesday. The team’s scheduled Saturday home game against Purdue was cancelled after three more players and two staff members tested positive since Saturday, according to the university’s athletic director, Barry Alvarez. “I share in the disappointment of our student-athletes and staff,” Alvarez said in a statement. “We have seen a level of improvement in our testing numbers, but not enough to give us confidence to resume normal activities and play our game on Saturday,” he said. The team’s outbreak was first detected on Oct. 24. Since then, 15 players and 12 staffers have tested positive, the school said. Wisconsin’s game last Saturday versus Nebraska was also cancelled.
(CBS Local)- Second-ranked Alabama passed its first major test of the season last weekend, pulling away from Georgia in the second half to win 41-24 and remain unbeaten on the season. Now, they head to Knoxville to face a Tennessee team that, after losing to Georgia two weeks ago, came unraveled last week in a blowout loss to Kentucky 34-7. The matchup appears to be a game of teams heading in opposite directions, as the Tide have only continued to improve offensively while the Volunteers have regressed. College Football Today analyst Brian Jones was particularly impressed by the play of Mac Jones and the balance of Alabama’s offense last week. “If you give him time, he’s going to pick you apart, because no one can stay hitched to these wide receivers. I thought Georgia would win the battle up front against Bama’s offensive line, the fact that they’re two deep...
Here are things to watch in Week 5 in the Southeastern Conference: GAME OF THE WEEK Apologies to the purists: the “Third Saturday in October” rivalry between No. 2 Alabama and Tennessee actually falls on the fourth weekend of the month. But it’s one of the few games that remained in its original spot when the Southeastern Conference ripped up schedules and switched to a 10-game, league-only setup because of COVID-19 concerns. No one will give the Volunteers a shot — oddsmakers installed them as 21-point home underdogs — after consecutive drubbings at Georgia and against Kentucky that prompted Jeremy Pruitt to fire defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh. But Tennessee led the Bulldogs 21-17 at halftime and would have had a better shot against the Wildcats if not for four consecutive turnovers, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns, in the first half. And last year in Tuscaloosa, the Vols settled...

Happ pitched eight scoreless innings, Clint Frazier hit a two-run home run and the Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 8-0 Saturday night for their 10th consecutive win.
