Davis scored all but three of Tennessee’s fourth-quarter points. Her 26 points matched a season high. Rae Burrell scored 18 of her 23 points in the first half for the Lady Vols. ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Gabby Connally scored 24 points, Jordan Isaacs blocked a last-second shot and No. 22 Georgia defeated No. 21 Tennessee 57-55 on Sunday for the Bulldogs’ first sweep of the Lady Vols in 36 years. A missed free throw by Connally with 22.1 seconds to go and alternating turnovers gave Tennessee a last chance with 10.2 seconds left. Top scorer Rennia Davis got the ball in the backcourt, worked to the left wing and put up a 3-point attempt that Isaacs got her fingers on for the Bulldogs’ season-high 12th block. With a come-from-17-behind 67-66 win on Jan. 14 — their first in Knoxville in 25 seasons — Georgia earned the season sweep for the first time since 1984-85. Que Morrison added 11 points for Georgia (17-4, 9-4 Southeastern Conference), which moved into a tie for third in the loss column with Tennessee. Jenna Staiti had 12...

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Chasity Patterson scored 21 points and No. 20 Kentucky was 10 of 20 from 3-point range to pull away for a 71-56 win over No. 16 Tennessee on Thursday night. The Lady Vols, who won the first meeting 70-53 on Jan. 24, were without Rennia Davis, their leading rebounder (8.9) and second-leading scorer (14.5) because of COVID-19 protocol. Tennessee was off last week because of a coronavirus break. The Wildcats (14-5, 7-4 Southeastern Conference) took control in the fourth quarter, going 5 for 5 from 3-point range and outscoring Tennessee 25-9. Patterson and Jazmine Massengill, who scored 11 points, both hit two treys in the fourth quarter. Kentucky won despite leading scorer and 3-point shooter Rhyne Howard scoring just eight points and missing both her shots behind the arc. Despite going 4 of 13 from the field, Howard had seven rebounds, seven steals and six assists...

(AP) — Tamari Key had the fourth triple-double in Tennessee history with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots as the No. 20 Lady Vols turned aside a challenge from Florida for a 79-65 win on Sunday. The 6-foot-5 sophomore from Cary, North Carolina, had a career-high for points on 10-for-12 shooting, and the 10 blocks are a best by one, and two shy of Kelly Cain’s single-game record set in 2010. Key scored nine points and blocked four shots in the fourth quarter when the scrappy Gators came as close as 60-59. The Lady Vols called a quick timeout and then scored 10 straight points and closed out the quarter on a 19-6 pace. Rae Burrell added 21 points with nine rebounds for Tennessee (12-3, 6-1 Southeastern Conference), who have won three in a row. Rennia Davis added 14 points, seven boards and four assists. Kasiyahna...

Kellie Harper feels the shadow of Pat Summitt still looms over the Tennessee Lady Vols, as well as the expectations that come with coaching the winningest program in women’s college basketball history. The second-year Tennessee head coach also knows the program is a shadow of what it was under Summitt, and that trying to be her is not the way to build a contender. “That’s just not going to work,” Harper said. “And what I can do is be the best me that I can possibly be. A me that learned from her, that played for her, that gave everything I had to the program. But at the end of the day, you’re going to sell yourself short if you’re trying to be somebody that you’re not.” One lesson Harper learned well while winning three national championships playing for Summitt is play the best teams in the nation...
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Rennia Davis scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and No. 23 Tennessee bounced back from a disappointing loss to roll past Alabama 82-56 on Sunday. Tennessee, coming off a 67-66 home loss to Georgia on Thursday, took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Crimson Tide 26-7. It was a confidence building win with No. 4 UConn coming to Knoxville on Thursday. Rae Burrell added 17 points for the Lady Vols (9-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) with Tamari Key adding 15 points and Jordan Horston 14. It was the opposite story for the Crimson Tide, who upended No. 14 Mississippi State 86-78 on the road Thursday but couldn’t contain the Tennessee offense at home. Jordan Lewis led Alabama (11-2, 4-2) with 22 points and Jasmine Walker had her frouth-straight double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Horston closed the first quarter with a 3-pointer to...

Jenna Staiti, an 89% free-throw shooter, missed twice with 13.8 seconds to go but the rebound went out of bounds off a Tennessee player. Georgia was called for a five-second violation. Davis couldn’t shake free for a shot and dropped the ball down...

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Lady Vols have signed Jordan Walker from Western Michigan as the second graduate transfer this year for coach Kellie Harper. Tennessee confirmed the signing Friday. The 5-foot-8 guard led Western Michigan in scoring last season, and Walker will have two seasons of eligibility after graduating in three years with a political science degree. “Jordan brings experience at the guard position and provides us much-needed depth on the perimeter,” Harper said. “She is a terrific addition to the rest of our roster, as she can knock down the open shot, create off the bounce and distribute the ball. I was impressed with her level of maturity, and I am excited for her to be a part of our family.” Walker averaged 16 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals last season. She has started 54 of 64 games in her...
