His name is Anthony Rodriguez. He was an "amazing father" and most commonly seen as the "John Wayne" of the household before he died, his daughter, Joann Rodriguez, told Fox News.  Joann Rodriguez was not only one of his primary caretakers while he was in the nursing home. And her time with him was abruptly cut short earlier this year after more than 9,000 recovering coronavirus patients in New York state were released from hospitals into nursing homes.  The Cuomo administration’s March 25 directive barred nursing homes from refusing people just because they had COVID-19. It was intended to free up space in hospitals swamped in the early days of the pandemic. WOMAN WHOSE MOTHER DIED IN NY NURSING HOME: GOV. It is now known that the March 2020 decision led to the death of almost 15,000 seniors. One of those people who tragically lost her life was Maria Sachse, 60, who died April 13th, just 10 days shy of her 61st birthday. A longtime resident at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at South Point in Island Park, New York, Maria suffered from dementia. "I trusted them to take care of her where we couldn’t and they failed miserably," her daughter, Theresa Sari, said in an interview with Fox News. GOV. Shannon Altenhofen has decided to open up to DailyMail.com after the remains of her mother, Brenda Kerber, were found at the bottom of a New York reservoir last month. Police revealed in January that Kerber died by suicide after 'a review of the evidence in the case and the recent findings from the vehicle,' and an examination by the medical examiner. The mom, who was 40 when she went missing, was a follower of Frederick P. Lenz III - a man who recruited people to 'American' Buddhism and who many considered a cult leader. New Mexico social workers are using qualified immunity to fend off a wrongful death lawsuit filed against them by the family of a baby girl who died in foster care.  Back in December 2017, eleven-month-old Ariza Barreras was found dead inside the Albuquerque home of Stephanie Crownover - a state licensed foster parent.   According to KRQE News 13, medical examiners determined that Barreras died from pneumonia, which may have been worsened by conditions inside Crownover's home.  A subsequent wrongful death suit named five employees from the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) as being culpable for the infant's passing.   The suit stated that Crownover should never have been granted approval by the CYFD to become a foster mom, given that she had a criminal record and had been previously investigated for not providing adequate food and shelter for minors in her care.  However, the employees of the CYFD...

(CNN)When Barbara Johns was just 16 years old, she led a walkout at her high school to protest poor and unequal school conditions. The moment is one that many historians believe helped launch the desegregation movement in the US. Now, Johns -- who died in 1991 -- will be memorialized at the US Capitol, replacing Virginia's statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.By law, all states are allowed to donate two statues to the US Capitol for display around the building as part of the National Statuary Hall Collection, and they're able to replace existing statues through a process that involves the state's legislature and governor. The removal of the statue of Lee -- one of several statues around the Capitol depicting Confederate soldiers and officials -- is part of a larger trend of relegating symbols of the Confederacy, due to their racist nature. In a statement, Virginia Gov. Ralph...
CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago woman is part of the most fragile population: mostly stuck inside with a compromised immune system. Her Christmas tree was stuck in the mail. CBS 2 reported on her story and people responded with offers to help. CBS 2’s Jeremy Ross reports on one couple’s selfless delivery. She said at least eight strangers reached out. Those eight found one woman’s internet or physical mailbox, but a handful of her packages were not as lucky. CBS 2 profiled Tahirah Akins mail miscues last week. The USPS said at the time it couldn’t find her address. That resulted in a frustrating cycle of non-deliveries. While health complications from lupus and recovering from COVID-19 keep her homebound, one of the prized packages languished in limbo: a Christmas tree. “Despite not receiving the tree that I ordered, I was just overwhelmed with people’s kindness,” Akins said. “It just...

Exactly how she died has not been determined, but the discovery was classified as a cold case homicide. Ever since her remains were discovered, detectives have been trying to identify her. Facial reconstruction, a media push, and inputting the case into the National Missing Persons...

In my new book, ‘Kickass Conservative,’ I talk about … why feminism has failed us, she said on Spicer & Co. And what I say is I am pro woman. I don’t use the term feminist anymore. It’s going to take more than a Playtex push-up to stop the “senseless shootings” wreaking havoc on the city, according to a Brooklyn woman whose bra saved her life during deadly gunplay a little over a year ago. “Nobody knows how to be civil. Everybody is resorting to gun violence,” 22-year-old Daniesa Murdaugh fumed to The Post. “People are angry. They don’t know how to get that anger out. I’m not justifying nothing. I honestly felt like this was coming because we were quarantined.” Murdaugh knows about gun violence. Kevin Winter/Getty Images Every woman has a Chris Dodd. Black women experience a double dose of damaging Dodds, having to overcome both racist and sexist attitudes harbored by powerful men in order to get ahead in their careers. What is a Chris Dodd? Literally speaking, a former United States senator and lobbyist who has been selected to co-chair the vice presidential vetting committee of Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden. But on the heels of a Politico article on the veepstakes in which Dodd’s grievances, and frankly vendetta, against Senator Kamala Harris are aired out through back channels, it is clear that Dodd represents much more. According to the Politico report, Senator Harris’ offense was failing to show Dodd sufficient deference and “remorse” for having the audacity to compete in a Presidential debate; and — God forbid — laughing. Never mind that it was a bruising primary battle that landed then-Senator...
