RUGBY league’s Championship faces Covid-19 quarantine chaos after elite sport was not given an exemption. But part-time second tier clubs face a much harder choice as players face a decision of not travelling to Toulouse or taking at least a week off work. Featherstone Rovers, who play in France on May 1, are currently the first team to be hit by the current rules – London Broncos, who go before, are full-time. And James Ford, coach of York City Knights, who are part-time but chasing promotion to Super League, fears...
JOHN Kear has called on the ‘turkeys’ in Super League to no longer be able to vote for Christmas – and a new Maurice Lindsay to come in. And Wales boss Kear, a highly respected figure in rugby league, believes whatever comes next must be independent, with the vision of the man instrumental in bringing in Super League and summer rugby in the 1990s. That should come under the auspices of the Rugby Football League, much like the FA and the Premier League. The...

Had things gone to plan for Manchester United this week, they would be three points clear at the top of the Women’s Super League table. Casey Stoney’s side had only lost once this season before Sunday, that at the home of champions Chelsea, and have spent the campaign either setting the pace or keeping up with it, despite it being their second season in the top-flight. Instead, they go into the international break three points off the top having played a game more than everyone else. But where United are is exactly where they wanted to be. It’s important, given the disappointment of the last few days, that isn’t forgotten. “We never set our aspirations for a title race in the first place,” Stoney said on Friday night, after a 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby. “It was about qualifying for the Champions League. That is still very much in...

WELCOME to 2021, arguably rugby league's most important year since 1996. One in which the World Cup should dominate everything. 2 England boss Shaun Wane's side should be the priority this year - as should other Test nations As an Englishman, I will say England should take priority over any club. Same applies to Wales, Scotland and Ireland. No offence to the great work done by clubs around the country but the fortunes of the national side are bigger. Imagine the boost seeing Shaun Wane's men lifting the trophy at Old Trafford on November 27 would bring to the 13-a-side code. To achieve that, England must have the best preparation possible for the tilt at glory. No club concerns getting in the way, no excuse. Yes, there are worries at club level - and not just on the field. The best possible TV deal, or deals, tops Super League boss...

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF/CNN) — Even as the surge in COVID cases nationwide creates increasing havoc across the college football landscape, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell remains lasered focused on his league completing its season. On Sunday, Cal will play a rare morning game against UCLA after both teams and the Pac-12 Conference were forced to rework the schedule because of COVID outbreaks. Meanwhile, at least half a dozen high profile college football games were cancelled on Saturday. Is that a foreshadowing of what’s in store for the NFL and its Super Bowl?
