So it should come as no surprise that the truck got the full meme treatment on Twitter over Tuesday and Wednesday as many people compared it to a duck’s head,...

(CNN)Ford revealed a redesigned version of its F-150 Raptor high-performance pickup truck Wednesday with a more squared-edged looks and a wider headlight-to-headlight grill. It also comes with a new high-tech suspension that responds almost instantaneously to changing terrain. What it won't have is a lot more power than the last F-150 Raptor, so Ford is counting on new off-road driving technologies, such as a computer-controlled suspension and smart cameras, to help it compete against tough new competition. The big jump in horsepower will come later, Ford executives promise. A new Raptor has been expected since Ford started producing its redesigned F-150 last year. That's the truck on which the Raptor is based. This latest Raptor shares a lot with the F-150, but adds more features that are specifically targeted to its role as a high-speed off-road performance truck. On the back of recruiting John Hunter Nemechek, the Kyle Busch Motorsports team has bagged another signing. To be exact, the outfit has retained Chandler Smith for the coming season. However, the biggest difference is that he is driving the #18 truck on a full-time basis. As it turns out, this is his third season with the Truck Series team, but his maiden full-time gig. Speaking of his debut, Smith got his first big break in the Truck Series with the #51 truck in 2019. (CNN)I was laying flat on my back getting a gentle massage as I looked up at the clouds and the occasional seagull passing by overhead. For a moment, I could imagine I was at spa by the beach. But in reality, I was inside a Ford F-150 pickup truck in a parking lot in the Bronx. The illusion was nice while it lasted. The brand new 2021 Ford (F) F-150 4x4 SuperCrew Limited hybrid I was in had almost every available optional feature, putting its total price at nearly $80,000. (Without options, it would have been about $74,000 because the Limited version already includes a lot. The cheapest F-150s start at under $30,000.)The F-150 Limited Hybrid comes as close to a luxury car as a pickup probably can.The price, at least, matched the luxury experience I was having. (CNN)The New York Philharmonic was stuck in traffic. It was late afternoon on a Friday, and the red, white and black Ford F-250 pickup truck at the heart of the Philharmonic's new "pull-up" concert series was traveling at speeds familiar to anyone who has ever tried to cross a few miles worth of Brooklyn during rush hour.It has been more than five months since the New York Philharmonic, the nation's oldest symphony orchestra, closed the doors to its famous Lincoln Center concert hall in early March, as the coronavirus pandemic started to take hold of the city. In that time, over 23,000 New Yorkers are suspected to have died from Covid-19. The line stretched a quarter-mile before the sun was barely up Saturday, snaking around corners like bread lines in the 1930s. But the hungry in Queens are today’s New Yorkers, left jobless by the coronavirus. Until the pandemic struck the city, La Jornada food pantry used to hand out groceries to roughly 1,000 families a week. Now, the number tops 10,000. And volunteers serve lunch every day to 1,000 — many of them kids with growling stomachs. Across the five boroughs, the hungry is in the hundreds of thousands, the Food Bank of New York estimates. “It reminds me of the picture from the Great Depression where a man in a suit and tie is giving another man in a suit and tie an apple. That’s all he had,” La Jornada’s Pedro Rodriguez told The Post. “We give all we have, but that’s not enough.” Seniors, moms and kids, singles...

(CNN)Fiat Chrysler unveiled the 702-horsepower Ram 1500 TRX, which is expected to be the fastest accelerating pickup truck ever sold by any major automaker. The Ram 1500 TRX comes a little over a month after Fiat Chrysler unveiled its 702-horsepower family SUV, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. Under its bulging hood, the TRX has largely the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that's in the Durango Hellcat. That engine, originally developed for the Dodge Challenger Hellcat which debuted in 2015, is also now used in high-performance versions of the Dodge Charger sedan and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. This is the first time it's been put into a pickup truck. As a high speed off-road pickup, the TRX will compete against Ford's popular 450-horsepower Raptor. But with its huge supercharged V8, the Ram will produce far more power than the Raptor's 3.5-liter turbocharged V6. The Ram 1500 TRX will be most powerful...
A rapper is calling on ice cream trucks to ditch the song “Turkey in the Straw,” and instead use a new jingle that he came up with, because the original has racist conntations, CNN reported. It’s a bit of classic nostalgia for millions of Americans: the distant sound of an ice cream truck coming down the street, its jingle playing over the loudspeakers, telling kids to ask their parents for money so they can grab a delicious frozen treat when the ice cream man passes by. For decades, such trucks operated by the Good Humor brand played “Turkey in the Straw,” an easily-recognizable tune that has been a part of the American consciousness for nearly a hundred years. However, as it turns out, that song has racist origins. Rapper RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, whose real name is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, started a campaign to convince the ice cream truck...
(CNN)The ice cream truck jingle of your childhood is about to get an upgrade -- and RZA is behind it.The hip-hop icon of Wu-Tang fame has teamed up with the ice cream brand Good Humor to re-imagine the signature "Turkey in the Straw" jingle played by ice cream trucks all over the country. Because as it turns out, the tune has a problematic past."Do you remember that ice cream jingle? Of course, we all know it," RZA said in a promotional video for Good Humor, which is owned by Unilever. "I'm not going to play it right now, though, because we come to find out that it has racist roots.""Turkey in the Straw" originated from a traditional British tune brought to the American colonies by Scots-Irish immigrants, according to scholar Theodore R. Johnson in his 2014 article for NPR.The original song has no racial undertones. But the melody to the...
Get ready to scream for ice cream — with a brand-new song. RZA, of the Wu-Tang Clan, has partnered with Good Humor to write a cheerful new ice cream truck jingle in place of “Turkey in the Straw” — an earworm with a troubled history long criticized for being racist. “Remember that ice cream jingle?” the rap legend, 51, said while introducing his new song. “Of course — we all know it. I’m not gonna play it right now because we come to find out that it has racist roots. “But check this out — Good Humor, they called me up and they was like, ‘We gotta do something about this, Riz. We can change the dynamics. We can make a new ice cream jingle for a new era,’ ” the rapper added. In 2014, NPR documented the history of the tune, which was used in racist minstrel shows and became...

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire court ruled Friday that some evidence related to the driving and drug use of the pickup driver whose collision with a group of bikers last year left seven motorcyclists dead was admissible in his criminal case. The Superior Court decided that evidence of Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, of West Springfield, Massachusetts, driving erratically earlier in the day of the crash was admissible. It also allowed prosecutor’s request to admit evidence of the defendant’s criminal past including an instance of illegal drug use. But the court denied a request to admit evidence of two instances of Zhukovskyy driving erratically in the past. Zhukovskyy has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of negligent homicide and driving under the influence and awaits trial. Earlier this month, Republican Gov. Chris Sununu marked a year since the crash happened. Sununu remembered “the fallen seven” at a news conference in Concord...
Detroit — Six years ago, Ford made a Texas-size wager on the top-selling vehicle in America, rolling out a radical new version of the F-Series pickup with a lighter aluminum body instead of the customary steel. Now it's time for another revamp, and Ford is playing it safe with the company's crown jewel. On the outside, the 2020 truck changes little, and the internal combustion engines and transmissions remain the same. The biggest differences are a gas-electric hybrid version, internet connectivity, and a revamped interior that turns the truck into more of a rolling office or even a place to nap. There's good reason for Ford to minimize changes. Since the 2014 revamp, it has sold nearly 4.5 million of the aluminum-clad trucks, holding its sales crown despite challenges from Chevrolet and Ram. Pickups also have been a bright spot during the pandemic as automakers cautiously restarted factories last month....

Tehran (AFP) – Iran test-fired a “new generation” of cruise missiles Thursday, the navy said, in the first such military exercises since 19 sailors were killed last month in a friendly fire incident. The armed forces’ website published pictures of the drill in the Gulf of Oman showing missiles being fired from a warship and the back of a truck, and a vessel exploding out at sea. A statement said both short- and long-range missiles were test-fired. They “destroyed the designated targets 280 kilometres (174 miles) away, and their range can be increased even further,” said the statement. The missiles were designed and produced by the defence ministry and the navy, it said, without giving any further details. A video released by state television on its website said some of the missiles were based on “older platforms that have been updated”. They were “missiles with deadly precision and power for...
It’s halfway there! Nissan is set to launch its first fully redesigned Frontier pickup since 2005 next year, but it won’t be all-new when it finally gets here. (Nissan) That’s because Nissan finished the new drivetrain first, so it decided to put it in the current generation truck for 2020 as a retirement gift before it gives up the title of "oldest new pickup on sale." The 3.8-liter V6 and 9-speed automatic transmission replace the ancient 4.0-liter V6 and 5-speed combo, while the four-cylinder Frontier that was the lowest-priced pickup in America has been dropped for now. (Nissan) The starting price for the Frontier is now $27,885, which puts it in between the six-cylinder small pickups from GM and Toyota, but with 310 hp it checks in with the most powerful motor in the midsize class, up 49 hp from 2019.
