I think all training grounds are the same, there’s a lot of testosterone flying about. “It never really got to that. It’s...

Gov. Gavin Newsom is in “advanced talks” with Major League Baseball about allowing some fans to attend games this season, bolstering the cautious optimism among some that the Dodgers and Angels could at least partially fill their stadiums this summer after entertaining cardboard cutouts last year. Newsom made that comment during a visit to a Cal State Long Beach vaccination site Wednesday, March 3, less than a week after spring training games began. The regular season begins April 1. The coronavirus pandemic forced MLB to delay its season last year. And once it did begin, it was severely truncated — a 60-game sprint rather than the traditional 162-game marathon. Fans were also deprived of the annual summer rite of sitting in sun-soaked stands, eating a hotdog and peanuts, and watching their favorite baseball teams, particularly the Dodgers, Angels and San Diego Padres among Southern Californians. Instead, they largely watched on...

Either the Raiders stick to the philosophy that “the best ability is availability” or they’re in for a penny, in for 380 pounds. Plus another $14 million. That’s the dilemma as the new league year approaches regarding right tackle Trent Brown, the self-proclaimed “world’s greatest underdog” who will make out nicely whether the Raiders release him or not. On one hand, the Raiders could use the $14 million in salary cap space by sending Brown on his way. On the other, if Brown’s 2020 season was a fluke and at age 28 he can still be a game-changer, they’ll have parted with an elite player just as his contract became more reasonable. Brown has been paid more than $36 million on a four-year, $66 million contract and has played in 16 games with 862 snaps — just 281 of those last season in five games. Contrast...
NBA : By Stefanos Tatsios / info@eurohoops.net The designation “miracle of nature” may have been created for an old world basketball legend (Arvindas Samponis), but undoubtedly fits perfectly with the Serbian beastly center who really what he has been doing for another year in the top league of the world few have achieved in such an impressive way. In the easy predominance of Denver Nangets against Milwaukee Bucks by Giannis Antitokoumbo with 128-97, The Nikola Jokic became the only center in its history NBA who reached the 50 triple doubles in his career in 416 appearances, while with 50 triple doubles he completed his legendary journey Wilt Chamberlain but 703 games! New York Yankees: Torres wants to forget last season, Kluber is where he needs to be and more By: William Parlee February 27, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Yankee’s shortstop Gleyber Torres is looking to have as many home runs as in 2019 or more. Torres led the Yankees with 38 home runs in 2019, but 2020 was disappointing for the young shortstop. He hit only three long balls and had an average of just .243, down more than 30 points from the previous season. During this offseason manager, Aaron Boone said Torres was not in shape he should be at the beginning of the season. His performance was lacking in the first part of the season, but he showed improvement when he came back from the IL in his last 18 games. Now with spring training in full swing, Torres is healthy, strong,...
Jay Bruce made it to the New York Yankees, 3 1/2 years later than he first thought. Bruce had just reached a Philadelphia hotel room after a train ride that followed a hitless afternoon in the New York Mets’ loss to Texas at Citi Field on Aug. 9, 2017. He was with his family and hearing talk he was about to be dealt to the Yankees. Then that swap fell through and he was sent to Cleveland for minor league pitcher Ryder Ryan. “I wanted to go somewhere I had an opportunity to win a World Series,” he recalled. Two weeks later, the Indians started a winning streak that extended for an American League-record 22 games. “So I was extremely happy being in Cleveland. I would have been extremely happy being in New York,” Bruce said Friday at spring training in Tampa, Florida. “That’s why I absolutely picked the Yankees...

The Atlanta Braves’ legendary pitcher explained why he was so clutch in the most important games of his career. In baseball, there were always those stars who step up when it matters the most. Whether that was avoiding a potential elimination in the postseason, winning the division, or helping the team clinch a spot in the World Series. Perhaps the most clutch pitcher in MLB history was John Smoltz. The legendary Atlanta Braves ace has pitched in three Game 7’s in his career and only surrendered a grand total of two earned runs. How was he so clutch in those nerve-wracking moments? In an exclusive interview with FanSided, Smoltz described how he would calm himself down before big games to the point where he was able to take a nap. “Well, I always wanted to be there,” said Smoltz. “That doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed success. But if you don’t approach it...

The comeback is back on track. After missing Wednesday’s Santa Cruz Warriors game with a back injury, Jeremy Lin returned to the SeaDubs lineup on Thursday and turned in yet another stellar performance in the NBA G-League bubble, scoring 27 points on 50 percent shooting (4-of-8 from beyond the arc) with seven assists to boot. A day after it was fair to question if Lin would have to wait until next year, he played in a way that begged the question if he’ll be picked up by an NBA team before the bubble ends. The truth, of course, lies somewhere in the middle. And it should be noted that absolutely nothing is straightforward in the G-League. But a third of the way through the minor-league Warriors’ regular season, here are three reasons why Lin deserves an NBA call-up… as well as three reasons why it...

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their first loss in seven games yesterday as the Denver Nuggets beat them 122-105. But the loss was not the biggest talking point of the game. The Lakers’ superstar forward Anthony Davis, who was having a fantastic game, initially aggravated his Achilles tendonosis early in the second quarter. The San Jose Sharks are about to embark on another difficult portion of their schedule, perhaps every bit as challenging as the last two-plus weeks in January when they played eight straight games on the road over a 15-day span. The Sharks travel to play the St. Louis Blues on Thursday and Saturday. They then begin what is now a seven-game homestand with three games against the Vegas Golden Knights, two with the Colorado Avalanche and two more with the Blues. It would be a daunting string of games for even the best teams in the NHL. It also appears the Sharks will host the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 22, a game that was initially supposed to be played April 23. The NHL, though, is having to reschedule several games after the Avalanche and Wild had postponements in recent weeks due to multiple COVID-19 issues. That’s part...

After discontinuing the national anthem at home games, only to have the NBA reinstate its longstanding policy requiring teams to stand for The Star-Spangled Banner, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is now insisting he 'didn't cancel' the song and never actually changed any team policy. 'We didn't make any decision to never play the national anthem then -- that wasn't the case at all,' Cuban told ESPN's 'The Jump' on Wednesday amid a growing controversy over his initial decision to stop playing the anthem before games. 'We didn't cancel the national anthem,' he continued. 'We still had our flag flying proud up on the wall at the American Airlines Center and everybody had the opportunity to address it and pray to it or salute to it or whatever their feelings are. 'There was never any final decision that was made that we would not play the anthem.' Cuban's decision went...
A lot of players have idols who have a similar playstyle to them. But breaking this norm is LA Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, who has spoken about how he grew up liking Hall of Famer Allen Iverson. They have a completely different playstyle, but Leonard liked watching him. After the Clippers win tonight, Leonard was asked why he idolized Iverson. He replied, “Just his gameplay, how hard he played. He played both ends, off-the-ball, getting steals. Just seeing him with the 76ers, bringing them to the finals, and carrying them by himself. That just resonated to me how hard he played and his will to not give up.” One of the few similar things about Leonard and Iverson is their dreads. They are both known for this hairstyle. But on the court, their ability to intercept passing lanes is also similar. Iverson did it with his lightning speed, whereas Leonard is...

All Denzel Mims could do was watch last week as his Jets teammates got blown out in Seattle. Mims had to return home to Texas to deal with a family emergency. That caused him to miss COVID-19 testing that week, which kept him out of the game. Mims returned to New Jersey two days before the Seahawks game, but players must have five consecutive negative tests to play, so there was not enough time for him to be cleared. “It was pretty tough, just knowing that I’m healthy to play and I wasn’t able to play with the team and watching them play a very good team,” Mims said. “It was tough seeing that. I wish I was there.” Mims is back now and will play Sunday at the Rams. The rookie wide receiver from Baylor is one of the few reasons to watch the Jets over the final three...
The Los Angeles Lakers beat the LA Clippers in back-to-back preseason games despite their stars not playing. LeBron James and Anthony Davis sat out for both games, while youngster Talen Horton-Tucker stole the show. He put up 52 points in two games, while also grabbing 19 rebounds as a wing player. He has been solid on both ends, and this has left LeBron impressed. “We can see what he’s capable of doing,” LeBron said. “I saw it about 3-4 years ago; I was watching a high school basketball game, and I happened to catch him playing, I told my agent… you need to take a look at this kid… he’s super talented… You can see what he’s doing now. NEW YORK (AP) — Adam Gase recognizes he has failed. The New York Jets coach is a realist and well aware he has not lived up so far to the hopes and expectations of Christopher Johnson — or a frustrated fanbase. When Johnson, the Jets’ CEO and chairman, introduced him as New York’s coach in January 2019, he talked about Gase being “an innovator” and “a creative mind.” They were traits Johnson highlighted again earlier this season while showing support for the coach. Now, the end seems inevitable after just two seasons for Gase, whose 0-13 team appears on a collision course with dubious NFL history. The Jets have three more games to avoid joining the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns as the league’s only 0-16 teams. And for that, and the dismal state of the team, Gase feels he has let Johnson down. “Yes,”...

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami defensive back Al Blades Jr. said Tuesday he will miss at least three months after being diagnosed with inflammation of the heart. Blades said the myocarditis diagnosis came after doctors were concerned about some bloodwork that came back while he was “going through some COVID protocols.” Blades said doctors made the diagnosis after an MRI was performed. It’s common for athletes to undergo cardiac exams after contracting the coronavirus as part of a return-to-play protocol — with myocarditis something that is often looked for in those additional tests. Miami has had several players, along with coach Manny Diaz, test positive for the virus in recent weeks. It had two games rescheduled because of those results and other complications related to contact tracing and possible exposure. “It hurts not to be out there with my brothers, but I will always be a Hurricane,” Blades wrote...

He said he had talked to the 49ers brass about the possibility of returning but speculated that it would be unlikely. NEW YORK (AP) — It was a coach-player union that made the New York Jets excited about what could be. Adam Gase was the hotshot offensive guru, and Sam Darnold the young gun quarterback and face of the franchise. Instead, the Jets can only lament what should have been. “It’s on me to get him to play better than what he’s played,” Gase said Thursday. “And so far, I haven’t done a good enough job.” The fallout from that will likely be significant this offseason. With the Jets sitting at 0-11, Gase is almost certainly gone after the regular-season finale. And, with Darnold struggling to progress in his third season, New York will likely move on from him, too. The Jets currently hold the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft in April and it’s looking increasingly more likely that Clemson star QB Trevor Lawrence will be there for them...
