SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A free COVID-19 testing site is opening up at Sacramento International Airport. The site is in the old taxi waiting parking lot, which is located near the AM/PM gas station. Testing will get underway at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and it’s available for the general public, not just travelers and airport employees, the city says. Testing is free, unless you’re flying to Hawaii, which carries a $20 fee for its pre-travel testing program. AAA is projecting a nearly 30% drop in 2020 holiday travel. Thirty-four million fewer U.S. residents will travel between December 23 and January 3 compared to 2019. Millions could be listening to the CDC’s warnings not to fly as 3 million will fly over the holidays, that’s an over 60% drop from 2019. About 81 million will travel by car, which is 25% fewer than last year. There are some appointments left for today.

Marquis says “after begging and pleading and asking our elected officials,” and not getting anywhere, she and the coalition did...

Cabral said, “I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my mom, and just to be sure I’m safe and she’s safe, I decided to get tested.” Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher said he has been encouraging residents to follow CDC guidance, and avoid visiting with family over Thanksgiving, but he says it’s just not a realistic expectation. “At least they know if they’re going to travel, and if they’re going to spend time with family and friends outside of their bubble, that they’re not the source of the spread,” Gallagher said. PRAGUE (Reuters) - Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis said on Tuesday he aimed to offer free antigen testing for COVID-19 by Christmas for any citizens who want it. The Czech Republic has been one of the worst-hit countries in Europe in the second wave of the pandemic but COVID-19 infections are falling after weeks of lockdown measures and the government lowered its risk level on Monday. The country has already started using targeted antigen testing -- which is faster and logistically easier than standard PCR tests but not as accurate -- in homes for the elderly. "I would very much like us to meet this challenge to allow all citizens, at least a week or 10 days before Christmas, to be able to be tested voluntarily and for free with antigen tests," Babis said. Voluntary mass testing could be part of a strategic plan the Health Ministry is preparing, he...

‘Tis the season to spend hours waiting in line to get tested for the coronavirus. Florida recently reported a line of cars 150 deep waiting for COVID-19 testing, while one drive-up site in Illinois is averaging more than 1,000 visitors a day. And these scenes are being played out over and over again across the country as people rush to get tested ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Indeed, the American Clinical Laboratory Association has warned that the surge in test orders means that many labs are facing delays in delivering test results, with Quest DGX, +1.62%  also recently echoing that it expects “turnaround times to grow” as COVID-19 cases surge across the country. It should be noted that a negative test only proves you weren’t infected with the virus on the day you were tested, however, and someone with a negative result can still contract and spread the...

NEWARK, N.J. (CBS/CNN) — A transatlantic passenger flight that, even in the age of Covid-19, feels safe — United Airlines flight 14 from Newark, New Jersey which landed at Heathrow Airport early on Tuesday seemed to be exactly that. The flight is the first in a four-week trial by the airline in which passengers and crew are tested before boarding, offering them the reassurance that — at least at the time of take-off — no one has the virus. United Airlines posted on Facebook about the flight and said “We are committed to working with governments around the world to make testing part of the travel experience to help open up international borders.” United wants to demonstrate that proper onboard testing could allow transatlantic travel to open back up again, reducing or eliminating the need for quarantine and reigniting the travel industry. So how does it work? The screening for...
