Bella Thorne’s multimillion-dollar OnlyFans debut has drawn widespread criticism from sex workers who use the platform as a primary means of income. Now, they’re using the controversy as an opportunity to boost their own content by running “Fuck Bella Thorne” sales. Hide Thorne instantly crashed OnlyFans when she joined the site a week and a half ago, but the excitement quickly turned to frustration as critics accused the actress of “scamming” users by reneging on her promise of nudes. The deluge of Thorne subscribers requesting refunds allegedly prompted OnlyFans to set max limits on tips and post prices and switch its seven-day payout to 30 days. Hide These changes could potentially devastate sex workers who rely primarily or solely on their OnlyFans income to make a living. Now, many of the platform’s creators are promoting each other’s posts across social media in order to find a silver lining in...

Until a global pandemic brought about lockdown, Rose Jones’ artistic endeavours were largely focused on her fine art degree at Oxford Brookes University. But with her academic journey on hold, lately, upstairs in the family home, in a picturesque corner of Hampshire, Rose’s creative enterprises have taken a rather different, eyebrow-raising turn. Yes, Rose is deploying her photographic skills, but in most other respects her daily activities are of a nature that many parents with children of a similar age (she is 20) would find simply horrifying. For large portions of her day, Rose is engaged in what some observers might call a form of ‘virtual prostitution’— a criticism she fiercely refutes. This well-spoken, intelligent, charming student takes photos of herself, in various stages of undress (in the afternoon, with the sun beaming through her bedroom window is her favourite time) before posting the material online, behind a paywall. She...

OnlyFans allows social media influencers, including sex workers and adult content creators, to sell photos and videos to their audience through a subscription model. But there are a number of tools that allow internet crooks to download and reshare photos and videos from OnlyFans profiles without their creators’ knowledge or consent. In a new report, Motherboard takes a look at these tools and the underground rings that take advantage of them. It’s fascinating, frustrating, and worth a read. According to scrapers who spoke to Motherboard, a user with “some basic technical knowledge” can use scripts called “scrapers” to rifle through the OnlyFans website and download large volumes of content. “Some people own server farms that download terabytes of data every day from OF [OnlyFans],” a developer of one of the OnlyFans scrapers, who we’ve declined to name in this piece to limit access to their tools, told...
