Experiencing high blood pressure — or 'hypertension' — for even a short amount of time and at any age can speed up cognitive decline, a study has concluded. Experts from Brazil monitored 7,000 adults — finding that even a short period of hypertension can impact such functions as memory, fluency and concentration. This decline can be reduced, however, if patients with blood pressure numbers above the normal range of 120/80 mm Hg were given antihypertensive drugs. In the UK, it is estimated that a quarter of the adult population — some 14.4 million people — have hypertension. Of these, five million are undiagnosed and at risk. REVERE (CBS) – On this Monday night, volunteers at a pop up food pantry in Revere moved with deliberate haste. A lot of these people have lost their jobs.” The church pantry has been in operation for 36 years and the demand for services is at an all-time high. Diamonds formed over three billion years ago deep in the ground, but scientists have create the precious stones in just minutes inside a lab. An international team recreated diamonds found in an engagement rings and Lonsdaleites at room temperature using a diamond anvil, which is a high-pressure device that compresses small pieces to extreme pressures. They used carbon crystallize for the experiment and then provided a twisting or sliding force of pressure known as 'shear.' Both diamonds formed together as bands with a core‐shell structure following the high pressure treatment at room temperature, which experts said is 'equivalent to 640 African elephants on the tip of a ballet shoe.' At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, some experts expected sky-high home prices in Denver to finally fall. But so far, such predictions have resolutely failed to come true. In August, the average home price in the Mile High City blew past $600,000 for the first time. While that mark wasn't quite eclipsed in September, the situation definitely hasn't improved. According to the latest market trends report from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors, house hunters are facing "the toughest market to buy a home in metro Denver's history." The reason, once again, is demand that is far outstripping supply. DMAR notes that the 5,301 active listings at the end of last month represented the lowest inventory for any September on record by 2,215 properties. People in favor of changing the name of Alexandria, Virginia’s famous public high school, which bears the name of a pro-segregationist, came together for an online rally Sunday. Dozens of people took part in the virtual discussion on why T.C. Williams High School needs to put its racist past behind it. Thomas Chambliss Williams, the school’s namesake, was superintendent of Alexandria city public schools for 30 years and supported keeping black and white students separated. The school opened in 1965. Years later, in 1971, Alexandria consolidated all high schools into T.C. Williams. Event moderator Lindsey Vick, who is also a T.C. Williams graduate, invited members of the NAACP’s Alexandria chapter to speak. She noted failed attempts over the past few decades to change the name and believes it must succeed this time around. “It can’t fail this time,” said Vick. “We owe better to our students, to our families. We...
