for a home playoff:

There are so many fingers to point at the Seattle Seahawks for blowing a home playoff game. In front of a crowd of absolutely no one, the Seattle Seahawks did not protect their home-field turf, as the NFC West division winner lost to the division rival Los Angeles Rams 30-20 on Wild Card Weekend. What used to be CenturyLink Field was a house of horrors for visiting opponents. Now that it is known as sleepy Lumen Field, it was the Seahawks who sung themselves to sleep up in the Pacific Northwest. It was a collective effort to not get it done at home vs. an injury-riddled Rams team, but somebody will end up being the scapegoat. Who will it be, but who is really at fault here?Let’s play the Seattle Seahawks playoff loss blame gameIt may have been fate, as Rams head coach Sean McVay does not lose games when...
The 25 best live albums of all time How to save, invest & earn more in 2021 Browns superfan Ray Prisby nominated for Hall of Fans before first playoff matchup in 18 years When Ray Prisby opened the door to his home and saw Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown standing there in his gold Hall of Fame jacket, he was stunned.  “I froze for like a brief second, and then I turned into a 12-year-old,” Prisby said. “It was like, I wanted to say something. I wanted to move.” Of course, the reaction is understandable. But the reason for the visit nearly a month ago is anything but ordinary.  Brown was there to nominate Prisby, a lifelong Cleveland Browns superfan, into the Ford Hall of Fans. “This is a fan award,” Prisby said. “If I’m blessed to win it, it’s for the Dawg Pound. It’s for Browns nation, Browns...
The Buffalo Bills were in an unfamiliar position as hosts on Saturday as the team played the Indianapolis Colts in its first home playoff game in a quarter century while also welcoming fans for the first time since 2019. Even as New York businesses face COVID-19 restrictions, Governor Andrew Cuomo, an ardent Bills fan, and New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker recently agreed to permit around 6,700 at the team's 71,000-seat stadium. While that's a new development for New York State's only football team (the Jets and Giants play in New Jersey, which also banned fans in 2020), it's not a major departure for the league. The NFL has deferred to local health officials to determine attendance levels amid the pandemic, which is why the Dallas Cowboys hosted 30,000 fans at their 80,000-seat stadium four times in 2020. And the 6,700 fans at Saturday's game had a few more...
Tony Romo will call the Bears-Saints playoff game from Dallas due to COVID-19 protocols, a CBS Sports spokeswoman told The Post. While Romo will be working remotely for the game, his partner on the No. 1 team, Jim Nantz will be in New Orleans. Tracy Wolfson and Jay Feely, the reporters for the game, also will be in attendance at the Superdome. CBS did not say if Romo would be at a local studio or working from his home. COVID-19 protocols will also impact NBC’s Saturday playoff game between Tampa Bay and Washington. Mike Tirico will call the game from his home studio, while analyst Tony Dungy and reporter Kathryn Tappen will be at FedEx Field.

Give the coach of the New Orleans Saints credit for creative thinking. Payton said he pitched a plan – to whom is unclear – for getting 50,000 fans in the building for the Saints’ home playoff games. They host the Chicago Bears on Sunday and, if they win, will host another opponent the following weekend. “I brought up the idea of testing 50,000 people and quarantining them in a hotel and having like the most safest Superdome known to man, scientifically,” Payton said half-joking, according to multiple reports. After a freezer filled with Covid-19 vaccines broke, a California hospital scrambled to administer more than 800 doses in about 2 hours Georgia Senate runoffs: Democrat Raphael Warnock wins against Kelly Loeffler Pete Priscos NFL picks for wild-card round: Lamar Jackson nabs first playoff win, Steelers send Browns home Thanks to Doug Pederson's decision to lay down in the fourth quarter Sunday night, I didn't quite end the season at .500 picking NFL games against the spread. © Provided by CBS Sports Yes, I had the Eagles. I know the number was bloated to around seven when the game kicked off, but when we made our picks last week it was at 1.5. So I got stuck with a loss. That meant I didn't finish the regular season over .500, but instead wound up 123-124-1. That's OK because I've been on a little roll, going 9-5-1 last week. As...
Baby bust, not boom, likely after pandemic Cities helping renters get right to lawyers in housing court Baker Mayfield: Playoffs start now for Browns The postseason doesn’t officially get underway until next week. But when it comes to the Cleveland Browns, they may as well start now. © Getty Images The Browns can earn a playoff berth for the first time in 18 years with a victory on Sunday over the Pittsburgh Steelers. They can also wind up at home for an 18th straight year if they lose and other results go against them as well. For Baker Mayfield and the Browns, it’s more straightforward to just treat the final week of the regular season as the first week of the playoffs. “The mentality here is we’re in our playoffs, just one week early. It’s win or go home,” Mayfield said, via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal....
The Buffalo Bills have been given permission to permit 6,772 fans to attend its National Football League playoff game the weekend of Jan. 9-10, its first home playoff game in 25 years and the first time spectators have been allowed at a Bills home game this season. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement at his daily coronavirus media briefing Wednesday, outlining numerous protocols. Stressing the game required a “smart” approach, Cuomo said no informal “tailgate” parties will be permitted at the more than 71,000-capacity Bills Stadium in Orchard Park, facial coverings must be worn from the moment spectators exit their vehicles until the moment they return and proof of a negative test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 within 72 hours of the opening kickoff will be required to attend the game. Tests will be conducted in the stadium parking lot on a drive-through basis by the...

There are three games left in the 2020 NFL regular season and this week is the most important by far. SAN DIEGO — Put your pinstriped allegiances or antipathies aside for a moment. If you like tantalizing, transcendent baseball, you don’t want the Yankees to go home anytime soon. Because you want to see what Giancarlo Stanton will do next. This American League Division Series now stands as even, yet don’t blame Stanton, the Yankees’ megabucks slugger who finally is living up to the hype that accompanied him to The Bronx nearly three years ago. As the Yankees fell to the Rays in Game 2, 7-5, a risky pitching strategy turning on them like a bad sausage, Stanton put on a power show for the ages, homering twice and driving in four at Petco Park to enhance what already had been a breakout postseason. In the process, the designated hitter made a seer out of a spiritual ancestor, another huge name earning huge dollars who wore a huge cloud...
Jesús Luzardo’s first career Major League postseason start didn’t last long. Luzardo, 22, struck out five through three innings but also allowed a solo home run to Adam Engel in the second inning and a two-run shot to José Abreu in the third as the A’s fell behind 3-0. Both home runs came on fastballs over the heart of the plate. In the third with Tim Anderson on second base with two outs, Luzardo fell behind 2-0 to Abreu. Instead of walking Abreu, an American League MVP candidate, with forst base open, the A’s continued to pitch to him, and Luzardo’s 96 mph four-seamer was driven over the left field wall. Luzardo struck out James McCann to end the third, but after he allowed a double to Engel with one out in the fourth, that was it for him. A’s manager Bob Melvin brought in J.B....
CHICAGO (AP) — Reynaldo López struggled and the Chicago White Sox tumbled out of position for a home playoff series, losing 10-8 to Kris Bryant and the crosstown Cubs on Sunday. The White Sox (35-25) finished the season with seven losses in eight games to go from first in the AL Central to the seventh seed for their first playoff appearance since 2008. They were in second place in the division heading into the final day, but Cleveland rallied for an 8-6 victory over Pittsburgh and hopped over Chicago based on its 8-2 record in the season series. The South Siders scored five in the eighth inning, and Yasmani Grandal’s two-run homer trimmed the Cubs’ lead to 10-8 in the ninth. Andrew Chafin came in with two outs and a runner on and struck out Nomar Mazara looking for his first save of the season. Bryant, Billy Hamilton and David...
Brian Glowicki signed with the St. Paul Saints this offseason excited for the opportunity to play so close to home. He graduated from the University of Minnesota a few years ago and currently resides in the Twin Cities with his girlfriend Maddie and their yellow lab Zeus. It was a match made in heaven as Glowicki tried to chase down his ultimate goal of making it to the big leagues. That plan obviously went out the window when the coronavirus pandemic forced the Saints to spend the first month of the season playing home games in Sioux Falls, S.D. All of a sudden, a 15-minute drive home for Glowicki turned into FaceTime as pretty much the only way to stay in touch. “We are definitely hopeful that we get to play in our home stadium,” Glowicki said a month ago. “Let’s hope it works out for us at some point.”...

You ask, we answer. The Post is fielding questions from readers about New York’s biggest pro sports teams and getting our beat writers to answer them in a series of regularly published mailbags. In today’s installment: the Rangers. Has there been any discussion about what will happen to the Rangers’ tax exemption if they are classified as the home team in the proposed “hub city” playoffs? Will the NHL have to designate them as the road team and the Rangers lose the last-change advantage or will the city grant a waiver? — Robert Altman As there will be no gate/concessions/parking revenue accruing to the home team in these projected play-ins and playoffs at still undetermined sites, it is unclear whether the applicable portions of the 1982 law that prohibits the Rangers and Knicks from playing home games elsewhere while granting MSG exemption from paying property taxes would be in...
