Even though the Saints star is widely regarded as the best receiver in the league, trouble is brewing on the bayou. According to Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk, some league executives believe the Saints would be willing to listen to trade offers for Thomas. Let that sink in a moment. Be careful how much you read into that, as it’s not a report that Thomas is being shopped or that the Saints are actively trying to move him. Rather, it’s the first rumblings that a split...

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans officials say they’ll investigate crowds that gathered in the French Quarter after the city relaxed coronavirus pandemic restrictions. Saturday was the first day that bars could have outdoor seats under guidelines set by Mayor LaToya Cantrell, who is taking a more gradual approach than the state. Tweets on Sunday from the city's official Twitter account said officials had been made aware of crowds gathering in the French Quarter and would enforce the rules, WWL-TV reported. Rajon Rondo is reportedly turning down the player option he has with the LA Lakers and entertaining offers in free agency. Considering how Rondo played in the playoffs, many teams will look to add a veteran like him. However, that means that there are going to be quite a few teams looking to snag Rondo for their team. One of those teams may just be Rondo’s former team, the New Orleans Pelicans. Rondo played for the Pelicans for one season in 2017-18. He averaged 8.3 points and 8.2 assists before leaving the team to join LeBron James on the LA Lakers. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The next Super Bowl in New Orleans has been pushed back from 2024 to 2025 in order to avoid a conflict with the city’s traditional Mardi Gras celebrations, the NFL announced Wednesday. The NFL said the change was approved by all 32 clubs during a virtual league meeting. New Orleans was initially named the 2024 host city in 2018, but the NFL’s decision to lengthen the regular season schedule from 16 to 17 games in 2023 created a conflict in 2024 with Mardi Gras, which annually draws millions to the city for parades and balls during a several-week Carnival season that ends on “Fat Tuesday.” Mardi Gras is tied to the Catholic calendar and falls...

By MELINDA DESLATTE, Associated Press BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell came to the Louisiana Capitol on Tuesday to ask for money to help the city's coronavirus -damaged budget, but Republican lawmakers questioned her economic reopening decisions rather than offering her promises of aid. The Democratic mayor told the House Appropriations Committee the city faces a $150 million budget gap, representing about 20% of its general tax and fee collections. City employees are being furloughed to save money, but that's not nearly enough to close the shortfall. Cantrell was seeking a greater share of federal coronavirus aid from lawmakers than New Orleans has received so far through a program run by Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards'...
The New Orleans Saints haven’t gotten off to the start they had hoped for. But here are 3 reasons why they could be just fine. In one of the most exciting Monday Night Football matchups of the season so far, the New Orleans Saints were able to squeak past the Los Angeles Chargers despite an eye-opening performance from rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. With the Atlanta Falcons looking at an 0-5 start and impending coaching staff changes, most would assume that they’re out of playoff contention despite Matt Ryan still being a top ten or twelve quarterback in the league. Carolina has been surprisingly good given the fact that both Cam Newton and Christian McCaffery aren’t suiting up for the Panthers...
The Drew Brees-led New Orleans Saints’ 2020 NFL campaign has not gone as per plan. The reigning NFC South Champions kicked the season off with a comprehensive win over Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, they suffered two back-to-back losses against the Las Vegas Raiders and Green Bay Packers in Week Two and Three, respectively. After beating the Detroit Lions last weekend, Sean Payton’s team will be eager to add to their win tally tonight. Meanwhile, Anthony Lynn’s Los Angeles Chargers find themselves on a 1-3 record in the league after four weeks. They are once again without their first-choice quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, who is yet to recover from a ruptured lung injury that occurred in Week Two. NFL rookie...

In a recent article, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report created a list of trades that would shock every NBA fanbase in the 2020 offseason. These include the blockbuster deal that would send Ben Simmons to the New Orleans Pelicans. In the proposed scenario, the Pelicans would be sending a package that includes Jrue Holiday, Lonzo Ball, JJ Redick, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and a 2021 first-rounder to the Sixers in exchange for Simmons and Al Horford. Though it would cost them some of their core players and two first-round selections, the proposed deal would make a lot of sense for the Pelicans. As Swartz noted, the suggested trade would allow the Pelicans...

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers has led his team to a 2-0 record at the start of the 2020 NFL season. He will be the player in focus as the Packers travel to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for their second away game of the season. The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate reported that the Louisiana Children's Museum closed in August as parents concerned about the coronavirus kept kids at home. But on Wednesday, the newspaper reports, students from the Langston Hughes Academy started using the museum as a school. The plan is for about 60 of the school's children from kindergarten and Pre-K classes to be able to have access to the facility located in City Park during the 2020-21 school year. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders delivered a performance worthy of their fancy new home. Too bad none of their fans were able to see it in person. Carr threw three touchdown passes and the Raiders gave their new fans in Las Vegas plenty to celebrate even if they weren’t allowed in the stadium by beating the New Orleans Saints 34-24 on Monday night. The new $2 billion stadium in the desert held its first event following the Raiders’ move from Oakland without any fans because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Hopefully our fans, even though they couldn’t be here tonight, hopefully see something they like,” coach Jon Gruden said. “We can’t wait to get them...
Drew Brees hit back at suggestions he is in decline after a disappointing showing in the Saints’ 34-24 loss to the Raiders. The 41-year-old quarterback is in his 20th season in the NFL but he failed to shine at Allegiant Stadium on Monday, finishing with 312 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 26 of 38 completed passes. It has played into an emerging narrative that Brees – the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yardage, completions and touchdown passes – is losing his touch, but he rejected that notion and cited a wider malaise in the team. “Well, my job is to execute the offense,” he said, having seen opposite number Derek Carr chalk up three TDs. “My job’s not to have the most air...
(CNN)It was devoid of baying Las Vegas Raiders supporters, but the team's fans will be filled with new hope for the upcoming season following the opening of its brand new "Death Star" stadium. The New Orleans Saints were the first team to visit the Allegiant Stadium -- its distinctive black shell rises out of the Nevada desert to dominate the surrounding landscape, hence its Star Wars space station nickname -- following the Raiders' move from Oakland to Las Vegas. And although the visiting team scored both the first points -- a field goal from Will Lutz -- and the first touchdown -- from Alvin Kamara -- the Raiders' empire struck back to begin life in Nevada with a 34-24 win, giving them...
Alvin Kamara scored the first touchdown in Allegiant Stadium history. After hopping between Oakland and Los Angeles for 60 years, the Raiders opened up their brand new stadium in Las Vegas on a Monday Night matchup against the New Orleans Saints. In keeping with the tradition they’ve established since 2003, they’ve found themselves in an early hole. It was a Saints player who scored the first touchdown in Las Vegas history, as running back Alvin Kamara put New Orleans up 10-0 in the first quarter by plunging it in from close range. Derek Carr’s struggles against the New Orleans pass rush helped the Saints take over with solid field position. A nice catch-and-run from Tre’Quan Smith helped put New Orleans...
Ideas, anybody? The Dixie Brewing Company is asking the public for help in choosing a new brand name to reflect a more inclusive and unified future. On Monday, the New Orleans-based brewery announced it would be seeking public feedback until Sept. 25 for original suggestions to rebrand the business and its products, according to Fox 8. “Join us on our journey to make the next 113 years as special as the past 113 years has been,” a name suggestion webpage reads, asking fans to submit their best pitches and explain what makes the ideas great. OAKLAND — In court records for the sentencing for a pot trafficker supposedly known as “Hitler,” federal authorities formally connected the dots between two 2016 homicides that occurred 2,000 miles apart, but which federal authorities allege were ordered by the same man. Marcus Etienne, 38, of Parish, New Orleans, is awaiting what will be a 33 to 35-year federal prison sentence for a charge of ordering the March 2016 murder of Trince Thibodeaux, shot and killed in Oakland allegedly because Etienne suspected him of stealing. Etienne also pleaded guilty to dogfighting as part of a plea deal, prosecutors said. The prosecution sentencing memo alleged that after ordering Thibodeaux’s murder, Etienne told the victim’s family that another man, 34-year old Rodney...

As the Raiders dive into preparations to face the Saints next Monday night, there were four developments from New Orleans’ opener that shouldn’t fool them. Perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees played what even he admitted was an “awful” game. All-Pro receiver Michael Thomas had the poorest statistical game of his illustrious five-year career. Coach Sean Payton said he’s probably never had a worse game calling plays. Alvin Kamara had the ugliest rushing numbers of any qualifier in the league this week. Individually, these occurrences can be seen as encouraging signs for a team welcoming the Saints into town. Collectively, they should concern the Raiders greatly considering these all took place while New Orleans was handing a...
