Five of the six largest wildfires in California state history have been sparked in the past two months — and they’re all still raging. The state’s most aggressive fire, August Complex, has so far scorched nearly 860,000 acres of NorCal’s Tehama County — nearly doubling the now second-largest Mendocino Complex in 2018, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Rounding out the all-time top six are four other blazes still currently burning, according to the agency and The Sacramento Bee, which first reported the staggering toll. The SCU Lightning Complex has now consumed 396,624 acres near Santa Clara and Alameda counties, while the LNU Lightning Complex has decimated 363,220 acres around Sonoma and Napa counties. Meanwhile, the...
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Democrat Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential election, is receiving praise for her wardrobe choices on the campaign trail by the same political media that relentlessly attacks and mocked First Lady Melania Trump for her wardrobe of haute couture and runway-ready fashion. This week, Harris met with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to tour property that has been ravaged by wildfires. For the visit, Harris chose a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a parka jacket, and rugged Timberland boots. The boots were enough to set off widespread gawking and fawning from the elite media over Harris’s otherwise mundane choice of shoes. “Kamala D. Harris goes viral — for her shoe choice,” a headline from...
It’s a Tyranno-score. Next month, Christie’s is auctioning off one of the most complete and largest Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons ever discovered — a 40-foot-long monster named Stan. “It’s just terrifying to behold,” said Christie’s representative James Hyslop about the titanic T. rex, which roamed Earth 67 million years ago. Now, Stan is on display at the auction house’s flagship in New York City, where he’s projected to fetch between $6 million and $8 million when bidding kicks off on Oct. 6, reported CNN. The price may seem rex-pensive, but buyers would be getting a lot of fang for their buck. At about 13 feet tall with 11-inch serrated teeth, Stan is among the largest Tyrannosaurus rex specimens ever found. Paleontologists...

At least nine people died during protests in Colombia’s capital city, where demonstrators set fires to city buses and torched police stations after a taxi driver was repeatedly tased by officers and later died. Video shot by witnesses showed the cabdriver, Javier Ordonez, 46, being pinned to the street Wednesday in a working-class section of Bogota, where he begged officers to stop, the Wall Street Journal reports. “Please, no more,” Ordonez said on the footage as the cops were atop him and firing a stun gun into his hip. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital. A vigil planned for Ordonez late Wednesday then took a violent turn, with protesters taking to the streets, including some who threw rocks...

Tom Cruise can fly, and not just when he’s making “Top Gun” movies. The action star was in Norway this past weekend filming a stunt for next year’s “Mission Impossible 7” that involved riding a motorcycle off a gigantic ramp built on top of a mountain and parachuting from the bike as it fell to the ground. The 58-year-old wasn’t wearing a helmet and repeated the feat four times, according to the Associated Press. But what about that bike was he riding? GEIR OLSEN/NTB Scanpix/AFP via Getty Images It’s hard to tell at the distance he was photographed from, but he previously practiced for the stunt on smaller setup in August in the U.K. while attached to safety lines,...
When it comes to fashion, First Lady Melania Trump loves her ivories, chiffons, creams, and stark whites. As we’ve seen since 2017, Melania Trump has favored shades of white possibly more than any other color in her wardrobe — especially when it comes to her hats. In 2018, I listed a handful of Mrs. Trump’s hottest white ensembles and this year, we’re due for another. From her white leather Hermés Birkin bag in France to her Alexander McQueen at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, these are Mrs. Trump’s best white looks from the past couple of years for Labor Day. 1. First Lady Melania Trump made a shocking color choice for the final night of the Republican National Convention (RNC), channeling an electric elegance that she has yet to do during her time in the East Wing. Melania Trump wore a pleated cape, sleeveless boat neck gown in a neon green off-the-runway Valentino frock from the Spring 2020 ready-to-wear collection. This is the first time that Mrs. Trump has worn this shade as First Lady. The dress retails for $5,500. Mrs. Trump paired the gown with a deep red thin leather belt and matching Manolo Blahnik stilettos. The dress has a 1980s quality, an era that Mrs. Trump has rarely channeled, instead opting for the period of the 1970s with suede...

First Lady Melania Trump joined President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Second Lady Karen Pence on stage in Baltimore, Maryland at the Republican National Convention (RNC), popping in a fuchsia cocktail dress. For the third evening of the RNC, Melania Trump broke from her military-inspired Alexander McQueen look from the night before, opting for a bright fuchsia frock by Jason Wu — a Taiwanese-Canadian designer based in New York City, New York. First Lady Melania Trump stole the show on the second evening of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in the Rose Garden, speaking about her passions in public life, wearing a sharp ensemble that has become a go-to aesthetic in her wardrobe. Melania Trump delivered the speech in full Alexander McQueen with metallic brown Christian Louboutin stilettos. The look’s jutting shoulders, cinched leather-belted waist, notched lapel, and olive khaki cotton is a familiar tone for Mrs. Trump who has often chosen uniform and military-inspired fashions over the last three and half years. This particular ensemble is reminiscent of a Joseph Altuzarra skirt suit in a similar shade of olive that Mrs. Trump wore in 2017 while meeting Argentina’s leader at the White House....

A heartbreaking photo captures the moment hero firefighters try to break into a Beirut warehouse — just moments before it exploded like an atom bomb. The image shows the smoke eaters in the Lebanese capital’s port trying to pry open the door to warehouse 12 that was packed full of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate. DailyMail.com says it verified the image was taken just before Tuesday’s terrifying blast that killed 137 — including at least one America — and left up to 300,000 homeless as it razed huge parts of the city. The photographer is among the confirmed dead, the report said, with the photo later found on his recovered phone. The firefighters are believed to be among the 10...
A Port of Beirut worker has been found alive at sea – about 30 hours after the cataclysmic explosion in the Lebanese capital, according to a report. A bloodied Amin al-Zahed — whose image was posted on an Instagram page created to locate missing residents — was admitted to the Rafic Hariri University Hospital after being pulled out of the Mediterranean, Al-Arabiya reported. No further details have been released about his condition or how he managed to survive in the water for so long after the blast, which has killed at least 137 people and injured about 5,000. The man is seen in photographs lying on the deck of a rescue vessel, with bloody bandages covering his head and other...
Amid the devastation in Beirut, a young girl was found alive after spending at least 24 hours buried under the debris from this week’s deadly blast in the Lebanese capital, according to a report. The crying child is seen in heart-wrenching video, with her head poking through the rubble as rescuers work feverishly to free her by removing heavy slabs of concrete Wednesday night, the UK’s Metro reported. Earlier in the day, a crowd cheered as a man also was pulled alive from rubble more than 10 hours after the blast in the city’s port. “Issam is alive!” the people yelled as the dust-covered man was removed on a stretcher. The explosion that rocked the city Tuesday has killed at...
At least one American was killed and several more were injured in the massive explosion in Beirut that claimed at least 137 lives, according to the US Embassy in the Lebanese capital. “We offer our sincerest condolences to their loved ones and are working to provide the affected US citizens and their families all possible consular assistance,” the embassy said in a statement. “We are working closely with local authorities to determine if any additional US citizens were affected,” it said, adding that all of its employees are safe and accounted for. Beirut has endured many horrors in its 5,000-year history, but nothing like the massive explosion that ripped through the ancient Mediterranean port city on Tuesday, leaving thousands of casualties, 300,000 homeless, and over $10 billion in damage in its wake. Now the indomitable Lebanese are digging themselves out from the rumble and demanding answers from their political elites. Lebanon’s capital city confronted a scene of utter devastation Wednesday, with smoke still rising from the port. The blast tore out a crater 200 yards across that filled with seawater, as if the Mediterranean had taken a bite out of the port and swallowed buildings with it. An aerial view of ruined structures at the port of Beirut, damaged by an explosion...
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived Thursday in Beirut to survey the site of this week’s devastating explosion whose death toll has risen to 137 — as Lebanese army bulldozers plowed through the giant mounds of debris to clear a path. The government has pledged to investigate the Tuesday blast after an apparently accidental fire ignited a stockpile of ammonium nitrate in the ravaged capital city. More than 5,000 people were injured and hundreds of thousands of residents were displaced. “Lebanon is not alone,” Macron said in a tweet amid pledges of international aid. “I want to organize European cooperation and, more broadly, international cooperation,” he said upon arrival in Beirut, where he was greeted by Lebanese President Michel Aoun. Macron, who...
Beirut’s massive ammonium nitrate explosion leveled Lebanon’s main grain storage silos, leaving the country with less than a month’s worth of reserves, according to officials. The silos destroyed in the deadly Tuesday explosion contained about 15,000 tonnes of grain at the time, Lebanese economy minister Raoul Nehme told Reuters — far less than its maximum capacity of 120,000. Nehme puts the country’s remaining grain reserves at enough to last “a bit less than a month,” with at least a three-month standing supply needed to maintain food security. But the minister insisted that famine was not an immediate worry. “There is no bread or flour crisis,” said Nehme. “We have enough inventory and boats on their way to cover the needs...

A massive explosion rocked Beirut on Tuesday, flattening much of the city’s port, damaging buildings across the capital and sending a giant mushroom cloud into the sky. More than 70 people were killed and 3,000 injured, with bodies buried in the rubble, officials said. It was not clear what caused the blast, which struck with the force of a 3.5 magnitude earthquake, according to Germany’s geosciences center GFZ, and was heard and felt as far away as Cyprus more than 180 miles across the Mediterranean. Interior Minister Mohammed Fahmi told a local TV station that it appeared the blast was caused by the detonation of more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in a warehouse at...

First Lady Melania Trump made a major fashion choice for July 4th celebrations at the White House this weekend — a sort of return to public life after months of a reserved schedule. For Independence Day, Melania Trump saluted the United States of America in a modern tea-length silk-blend sleeveless dress, matching white leather Christian Louboutin flats, and a vintage Azzedine Alaïa scalloped laser-cut red leather belt. The Alaïa belt is from the famed designer’s famed 1992 Spring/Summer Ready-to-Wear collection, where it was featured in black leather and a wider version was featured in red. The belt is a piece of fashion history that the most well-connected couture collectors are unable to get their hands on. Online, only one of the...
